Volume 1: Entering the Future for the First Time
Three months have passed after the birth of the three little babies. During this time, it’s enough for the three little ones to have some understanding of the current world. Moreover, even before their birth, their mother would occasionally educate them in the womb. As a result, they also have some understanding of modern tools and equipment. At the same time, they have developed a greater longing for the outside world. However, after their father’s explanation, the three little ones also know that leaving the nest in the first three months after birth is not a wise decision.
At the moment of the birth of the three little ones, their father was not by their mother’s side. This was not a coincidence. Besides, a significant portion of the demon spirits can control their own reproductive timing to avoid most crises. The three babies had already taken on a physical form at birth. This was because the mother’s gestation time was sufficient, helping them through the formative period. They were born already transformed, thereby avoiding the first heavenly tribulation in their lives, the tribulation of transformation. This approach is also the choice of most races that do not possess strong defensive capabilities.
At the moment when the mother was about to give birth, the father had already sensed it, so he left the nest and patrolled the surroundings. The birth of precious new species could easily trigger a spiritual power riot, attracting a large number of demon spirits. With a little carelessness, the newborns could be devoured. The faint but perceptible killing intent emanating from the father upon his arrival was a result of just concluding a battle.
The Tomb-Seeking Mouse, to cope with the various formations and mechanisms within the relic tombs, possessed the most formidable attack power and agility among the treasure-seeking mouse species. Additionally, the spiritual power on Earth was not as abundant as on the Huanchen continent, making it very difficult for spiritual beasts to advance here. This did not cause too much trouble for the father, who was a Tomb-Seeking Mouse. However, even so, it was impossible to determine if there were special beasts with hidden talents ambushing in the surroundings, waiting for the newborn spiritual beast babies to leave the cave before taking action. Therefore, for at least three months, the three little ones had to spend their time in the nest.
Fortunately, the parents were well-prepared with a variety of toys, especially electronic products that captured most of the attention of the three little ones. It was common to see all three of them gathered around a tablet, earnestly tapping the screen to catch fish. Occasionally, they would engage in more intense activities like slicing fruits. The mother would be on the side, studying knitting scarves, or embroidering clothes, while the father sat at the desk, tapping away on a laptop.
According to the mother, the father was the owner of a very large company. The three babies expressed their inability to understand, so their reaction was rather indifferent. Instead, it was the various clothes skillfully made by the mother’s hands that garnered admiration from the three little ones. The father often looked at them playing together with a faint smile but capturing that moment was difficult, at least according to Shu Xun, who claimed to have seen it only twice.
Shu Xun had initially thought that he would spend a comfortable and stable three months in the nest as his parents had described. Then, under their guidance, he and his two younger brothers would begin to explore the supposedly vast jungle. As they grew enough to handle the challenges, they would move to another home, gradually integrating into society. There, they would encounter the intelligent humans that the mother spoke of, witness various magical modern tools, live in spacious and bright villas, and engage in many, many activities.
However, these assumptions completely changed direction in the second month. Although Shu Xun had the most delicate physique among the three, his learning ability was remarkably strong. While his two younger brothers were still playing with fishing, Shu Xun had already mastered the basic operations of the computer and even wrote a program. Proudly tilting his little head, Shu Xun sought praise.
Watching Shu Xun, who seemed like he could raise his tail to the sky if he had one, their father rubbed Shu Xun’s head encouragingly. However, the mother, sitting on the sofa reading a book, remained unusually quiet, as if she hadn’t seen the interaction between Shu Xun and his father.
In the early mornings of the next two days, Shu Xun was lifted out from the three little bundles all curled up together. Feeling the familiar scent of his father, Shu Xun puckered his lips but didn’t wake up.
When a brisk, cool breeze with a hint of moisture passed by, Shu Xun unconsciously shivered, snuggling closer into his father’s embrace. But soon, Shu Xun realized that something was wrong. How could there be such a cold wind in their nest? Their nest was intricate and warm. Just as he thought this, Shu Xun felt himself being placed down from his father’s warm embrace.
Opening his confused eyes, Shu Xun was greeted by a world of fresh green and white snow. The air was filled with the fragrance of plants, and the faint dampness came from melting winter snow.
Looking at the slightly damp black soil beneath his feet, Shu Xun was curious. Standing on the slightly cool ground, he felt that his little feet were getting cold. So, he opened his arms towards his father standing nearby, signaling for a hug. But one second passed, two seconds passed, one minute passed, two minutes passed…
The father still stood there quietly, his cold eyes seemingly devoid of any emotion yet, at the same time, as if blending a thousand words. However, he never opened his arms. Shu Xun didn’t understand why but suddenly felt a bit panicked. Stubbornly, he didn’t let go of his little arms. Tears welled up in his big, bright, black eyes, and in a tender voice, he called out, “Daddy~ hug~”
However, Shu Xun didn’t expect that these words seemed to awaken something in his father. Suddenly, a killing intent surrounded his father’s eyes and body. Shu Xun stood frozen in place, hearing the panicked sounds of animals fleeing around him. The overwhelming killing intent made it almost impossible for him to breathe or move.
The father placed a small package in front of Shu Xun and then turned away, leaving. Shu Xun tried to take a step forward, but the formidable killing intent was beyond what he could resist in his current state. Thus, he could only stand there in confusion, watching his father’s gradually retreating figure. Shu Xun finally teared up, calling out for his father with a crying tone. However, even as his father’s silhouette disappeared, there was no response.
Shu Xun stood there for a long time, large tears falling. When he felt that he was no longer suppressed by the killing intent, he immediately moved his short legs towards the direction his father left. However, the unfamiliar mist-filled jungle made it impossible for him to find his father’s figure or the way back home.
On this morning, in the vast and blossoming spring jungle, there was always a tender voice carrying a crying tone that drifted in and out. A bewildered little one repeatedly called out for family members. In the end, he could only return to the starting point, holding the small package and crying aloud.
The midday in the jungle wasn’t much warmer than the morning. Shu Xun rubbed his somewhat swollen eyes, finally ceasing his weeping. However, his small body couldn’t help but occasionally hiccup. Silently, Shu Xun slung the small package left by his father onto his back. Carrying his little belongings, he looked around blankly, then randomly chose a direction, stepping forward into the unknown.
