TBA Chapter 5

Vampire vs Taoist

Jiang Xiaosi had originally planned to give Li Yueyi a good beating to vent her frustration. But when she saw her early in the morning at the school gate, holding an entire box of tomato juice with teary eyes, Xiaosi lost all her temper. Silly as ever, she accepted the box, handing over the pregnancy test kits and condoms she bought yesterday, along with a bonus box of tomato-flavored condoms. They didn’t have durian-flavored ones, even though she spent all night looking for them.

Li Yueyi nervously grabbed Xiaosi’s hand. “Wuwuwu, I haven’t had my period in two months. Could I be pregnant? Will I get expelled? My parents will kill me!”

Jiang Xiaosi could only drag her to the girls’ bathroom at school.

“Why didn’t you tell me earlier? Didn’t you and Shaobing use any protection?” Xiaosi gritted her teeth in anger, frustrated by her friend’s foolishness. This girl was only in her third year of middle school! When she first saw Yueyi shyly entering a relationship, Xiaosi thought it was just innocent hand-holding and little kisses. Who knew it would escalate to this?

“I-I was too shy to say anything… And his name isn’t Shaobing, it’s Shao Bing.” At the mention of her boyfriend, Li Yueyi’s eyes instantly sparkled like stars.

“Why weren’t you shy when you were doing it? Did you tell him about this?”

“No, I haven’t. I’m not sure yet. Can you check if… if it’s true?”

When Jiang Xiaosi saw the result, she let her arms fall helplessly, then furiously messed up her own hair.

“Congratulations, you’re going to be a mom.”

Li Yueyi burst into tears. She didn’t want a child—having a little brother at home was already more than enough trouble.

“That bastard! I’m going to settle the score with him!” Xiaosi raised her fist. Li Yueyi was just a young middle schooler, while he was in his third year of high school—how could he be so irresponsible?

Li Yueyi clung desperately to Xiaosi’s arm. “No, you can’t! What if he breaks up with me?”

Xiaosi wanted to knock some sense into her. “You like him that much? You’re afraid of him breaking up with you, so you just went along with what he wanted?”

Li Yueyi, with tears streaming down her face, nodded.

“You pig! How can you trust a guy like that? You—you’re driving me crazy!”

“Let’s just go to the hospital quietly and get rid of the baby, okay? He can’t know. If he finds out I caused him any trouble, he’ll definitely break up with me.”

“No way!” Xiaosi flatly refused. She thought about her own fate, dying in her mother’s womb, and couldn’t understand how women could so easily give up their own flesh and blood.

Li Yueyi’s mouth dropped open. “Then what should I do? Are you saying I have to keep the baby?”

Jiang Xiaosi knew Yueyi was actually a kind and gentle person, always considerate and caring. But she was also timid and indecisive, far too used to relying on others. Now that something like this had happened, she was undoubtedly terrified, making it easy for her to make even more mistakes.

“Don’t panic. Give me some time to think.”

Handling Shaobing wouldn’t be a problem—if she didn’t teach him a lesson, she wouldn’t be a Jiang. But what should they do about the baby? Yueyi was still so young.

“Xiaosi, I’m counting on you.” Li Yueyi, overwhelmed with despair, hugged her tightly. She had no idea what to do. But she trusted that no matter what happened, the ever-capable Xiaosi would sort it out.

With her head buzzing, Jiang Xiaosi boarded the subway, her backpack on her back and a box of tomato juice in her arms. She found a seat, placed the box at her feet, and started dozing off, leaning from side to side. She hadn’t slept at all last night and had spent a long time afterward chatting in whispers with Jiang Liu. Now she was so sleepy she could barely keep her eyes open…

People came and went around her. Half-asleep, Xiaosi suddenly smelled something incredibly pleasant. In her dream, it was a giant bowl of RH-type ice cream, bright red and dripping with blood, so fragrant, so sweet. She licked her lips, swallowed, and instinctively snuggled closer to the person next to her, her head resting on their shoulder. Her mouth kept moving, almost drooling.

The person beside her, disgusted, kept pushing her head away. She’d fall over, then come right back. After a few attempts, the person gave up and stood up, only to have someone else quickly take the empty seat next to Xiaosi.

Just as Xiaosi, half-conscious, was about to lean on the new person’s shoulder, the subway announced a stop that was so familiar to her that she reflexively stood up and walked out like a robot.

The boy who had sat next to her quickly followed.

The man who had stood up looked at the box of tomato juice Xiaosi had left behind, then at the ghostly figure of the foreign boy who had followed her out. He frowned in exasperation.

Jiang Xiaosi, still groggy and almost sleepwalking, exited the subway and instinctively headed through an alley to the bar street. Suddenly, she felt a cold wind behind her. Before she could turn around, she heard a scream and the sound of something breaking.

She turned around to see a handsome guy dressed in pitch-black clothes, holding a box in one hand and twisting a fragile-looking boy’s arms with the other, mercilessly snapping several of his bones. Then he pressed down on the boy’s spine, and with just a bit more force, it seemed like he was about to snap him in half.

Wait a minute… She looked down at her now-empty hands. Wasn’t that box the beautiful, lovely tomato juice she had? And wasn’t that handsome guy the RH blood type man she bumped into at the supermarket yesterday? And the blond, blue-eyed foreign boy with sharp fangs about to have his neck snapped—wasn’t he the vampire who frequently visited her shop to buy blood?

What on earth was going on?

Terrified, Jiang Xiaosi watched as the handsome guy balanced the box in one hand. She prayed it wouldn’t fall. What was Devan doing, picking a fight with this guy on the street in broad daylight? If that guy’s face got injured, what then? And, worse yet, what if her precious tomato juice got smashed?

“Hunting in broad daylight?” the man said, his every feature etched with coldness. He looked at Devan’s pale face, sneering. A faint blue light that only he could see flickered in his hand as he prepared to strike Devan in the chest.

Not only was Devan terrified, but even Jiang Xiaosi turned pale with fright. Oh no, this time they’d run into a real expert—and, unfortunately, the expert seemed to have misunderstood something.

With no other options, Jiang Xiaosi let out a loud scream, pointing a trembling finger at Devan, who was in so much pain that his eyes turned blood-red, his fangs fully exposed.

“A ghost!”

Then she dramatically collapsed to the ground, pretending to have fainted. The man hesitated, and his hand paused. Devan, seizing the moment, desperately escaped from his grasp.

He had just been wandering the subway when he spotted Xiaosi, the girl he had secretly admired for so long, and followed her to catch a few more glimpses. Who would have thought he’d get caught up in such bad luck? Wuwuwu, how cruel—he hadn’t done anything, yet this man was ready to kill him! Too terrifying.

Not caring that it was broad daylight, Devan shot up into the air and rocketed away, leaving the man too lazy to chase after him.

Looking at the fainted girl on the ground, the man frowned again. Should he just leave her here? Even if another vampire didn’t show up, it would be troublesome if she ran into any thugs or hooligans.

Unceremoniously, he slapped her face and shook her hard a few times, even stimulating a few of her acupuncture points. He would have loved to kick her a couple of times, but to his surprise, she still didn’t react.

Jiang Xiaosi clenched her teeth and continued pretending to be unconscious. After all, no one could play dead better than a zombie.

The man sighed, exasperated. In the end, he had no choice but to carry the box in one hand and Jiang Xiaosi in the other, taking her back home.
