TBA Chapter 61

A Struggle of Trapped Beasts

A flash of lightning cut through the night sky, illuminating the world as if it were day.

Shen Mo knew that Jiang Xiaosi and Mo Yang had stayed at the shop tonight, so he didn’t dare to let his guard down for even a moment. He waited outside in the rain, his pant legs soaked by the water dripping from the eaves. He could hear everything going on inside, but there was nothing he could do. He clenched his teeth, cursing Jiang Xiaosi a thousand times in his heart for being so foolish! If he had known they were progressing so quickly, he would have told her Mo Yang’s true identity. But he also knew that if Jiang Xiaosi truly liked someone, no identity could stop her.

Just then, a piercing scream echoed from upstairs.

Shen Mo’s blood froze. He broke through the door and dashed upstairs.

Mo Yang was on the floor, convulsing, with a shining golden five-pronged hook embedded in his back. Jiang Xiaosi was backed into a corner, staring wide-eyed at Shen Mo, clearly shocked by his sudden entrance.

“What are you doing here?”

Shen Mo had no idea what had just happened, but all he cared about was whether Jiang Xiaosi was hurt. He rushed toward her, only to be repelled by a transparent barrier. Looking down, he saw a red string drawn in a circle on the floor, with one end still in Jiang Xiaosi’s hand. He roared, “Jiang Xiaosi! What are you doing?”

Jiang Xiaosi flinched. She had never seen Shen Mo this angry before. His whole body was half-wet, his hair clinging to his face, and the veins on his neck bulged as he smashed his fist against the barrier.

Meanwhile, Mo Yang was desperately trying to pull the five-pronged hook out of his back. Jiang Xiaosi, her face full of panic, had no time to explain things to Shen Mo. The red string was tied tightly, binding her and Mo Yang inside, and she couldn’t undo it quickly.

The priority was to subdue Mo Yang. Jiang Xiaosi retrieved the silver chain she had prepared from the bedside table and cautiously took two steps forward, intending to bind him.

Shen Mo was horrified. He finally realized that Jiang Xiaosi had known all along that Mo Yang was Mei Xin, and that getting close to him was part of a trap she had set. My god! Did she take such a huge risk just to help him catch Mei Xin? Did she really think she could handle Mei Xin on her own? This fool! Shen Mo bit his finger, desperately writing symbols on the barrier.

At that moment, a nearly invisible figure flew out of the cradle—it was Little Ghost. He looked around in confusion, unaware of what had happened while he was sleeping. He felt weaker and weaker but didn’t want to leave Jiang Xiaosi. She was the only person who had ever been kind to him. Jiang Xiaosi was startled as well. She had specifically left Little Ghost at home today, afraid that Mo Yang would hurt him. She quickly called him to hide behind her.

Mo Yang, though protected by the purple sigil, had only suffered minor injuries. However, the five prongs of the hook were powerful enough to pierce through his heart and bones, pinning his soul firmly to this body, preventing him from escaping. His face twisted in fury, and it seemed as if flames were burning all over him. Seeing Jiang Xiaosi approach with the silver chain, he struck out with a powerful blow. Although she dodged, the heat from his attack still singed her sleeve.

“Xiaosi!” Shen Mo’s heart nearly jumped out of his chest.

Jiang Xiaosi chanted a spell, throwing the silver chain at Mo Yang. As soon as it touched him, the chain coiled around him like a snake, tightening more and more. These items were borrowed from Miao Yan. Luckily, everything had gone as planned, though the appearance of Little Ghost and Shen Mo wasn’t part of the plan.

Mo Yang, like a trapped beast, used the last of his strength to leap toward the window in a desperate attempt to escape, but he slammed into the barrier and fell to the floor. Jiang Xiaosi hadn’t expected him to still have such strength while bound, but fortunately, she had set up a protective barrier. Seeing that Mo Yang was finally subdued, she nervously grabbed the red string, trying to untie it to let Shen Mo in. The knot was too tight, and even a knife couldn’t cut through it. She resorted to biting it with her teeth in a desperate attempt to loosen it.

Suddenly, Shen Mo shouted, “Xiaosi! Watch out!”

Jiang Xiaosi hurriedly turned around to see that Mo Yang had already stood up. His muscles bulged as if they were about to explode, and with a loud snap, he broke the chain.

Jiang Xiaosi stared in disbelief as he pulled the five-pronged golden hook from his back. It was now in Little Ghost’s hand.

“Little Ghost, you…”

Little Ghost, seeing Jiang Xiaosi’s expression, realized he had done something wrong. Panicking, he threw the hook to the ground.

Mo Yang, his eyes bloodshot, stepped toward Jiang Xiaosi and struck her with a powerful palm.

“Xiaosi!” Shen Mo, in a frenzy, gathered all his strength and pushed against the barrier. Finally, the barrier cracked along the lines of the symbols he had drawn, shattering like glass. The shards cut into his hands, leaving them bloody and raw.

But it was too late. Jiang Xiaosi was forced back by the scorching heat radiating from Mo Yang. Little Ghost flung himself in front of her to protect her, but Mo Yang’s hand went straight through his soul, barely slowing down before landing a heavy blow on Jiang Xiaosi’s right shoulder.

The yellow light from her protective talisman and the purple glow from the bead she carried absorbed most of the impact, but Jiang Xiaosi still coughed up blood, her body flying backward into the wall before collapsing to the floor.

Before she could catch her breath, Mo Yang raised his foot to strike again, but Shen Mo blocked it, sending Mo Yang flying two meters back.

“Mei Xin!” Shen Mo roared, rushing forward. He grabbed Mo Yang’s left arm and tore out the purple sigil embedded in his flesh, blood splattering everywhere.

Mei Xin’s soul was forced out of Mo Yang’s body. Realizing he was no match for Shen Mo, he knew that escaping was his only option. Like an arrow, he shot through the window and disappeared into the rain.

Although this was the perfect moment for revenge, Shen Mo couldn’t afford to chase after him. He was too worried about Jiang Xiaosi’s injuries.

Jiang Xiaosi, however, was staring straight ahead, calling out, “Little Ghost.”

Little Ghost had used all his strength to weaken Mo Yang’s attack, but he had suffered severe damage. Now, looking down at his fading form, he knew he couldn’t stay in the mortal world any longer. Mo Yang had promised him that if he listened to him, he could stay with Jiang Xiaosi forever. That’s why Little Ghost had followed his orders and removed the five-pronged hook from Mo Yang’s back.

He had only seen Jiang Xiaosi and Mo Yang dating, thinking they were deeply in love. He had no idea it was all a trap set by Jiang Xiaosi, nor that she had planted the hook on Mo Yang during a kiss. He had pulled it out without knowing the consequences, causing disaster and hurting Jiang Xiaosi.

He felt guilty, but he didn’t want to leave Jiang Xiaosi like this.

Mommy, come with me.

Little Ghost suddenly turned into a gust of cold wind, wrapping around Jiang Xiaosi’s left pinky, trying to pull her soul with him.

“You evil spirit! You still dare to harm others!” Shen Mo shouted angrily. The purple sigil in his hand grew larger, and he slammed it down on Little Ghost!

“No!” Jiang Xiaosi screamed desperately, reaching out to protect him. But the moment the sigil touched Little Ghost, he let out a piercing cry before his soul was shattered into nothingness.

Shen Mo, still shaken, rushed to pull the sobbing Jiang Xiaosi into his arms. His hands trembled slightly as he held her, his heart filled with a fear he couldn’t describe.

“Little Ghost, why did you have to kill him…” Jiang Xiaosi struggled, hitting and kicking Shen Mo. She understood Little Ghost’s attachment to her. He didn’t want to leave her, so he thought that if they couldn’t live together, they might as well die together. Little Ghost didn’t understand, so why did Shen Mo have to kill him?

Shen Mo said nothing, only holding her tightly. He had almost lost her!

“Demons, ghosts—none of them deserve to live. All I want is for you to be safe.”

Shen Mo’s embrace was warmer than it had ever been, yet Jiang Xiaosi couldn’t help but shiver violently.
