What to do! What to do!
Xin Meng was surrounded by zombies, cold sweat soaking through his clothes. His physical strength was already poor, and he was injured, with only one arm usable. It was a miracle he had made it this far, relying on the long steel pipe he held to keep the zombies at bay. However, his right arm was growing increasingly sore, and he couldn’t hold on much longer!
He could only muster all his strength to run towards the main door!
The situation for the other two was even worse. The girl was doing okay, wielding a metal folding chair from the supermarket, which was not so easily damaged. Li Yougen had a wooden stick given to him by Jiezi, but he had been hiding among the crowd and hadn’t had a chance to use it. Now that he did, he found it had broken after just a few hits! Holding the half-stick, he screamed and wildly swung it around, managing to protect himself by sheer luck, but this was not a long-term solution. They were still too far from the door; they had only reached the side passage of the tall building and had to get through it to see the main entrance!
“Die! Die! You monsters, all of you die!”
Li Yougen struck at the dark claws of the zombies reaching for him with his stick, his screams echoing through the air. If Xin Meng had the energy to spare, he would have told Li Yougen to shut up and conserve his strength, but Xin Meng had no time for that. So, Li Yougen made a fatal mistake; his shouting drained his energy, leaving him gasping for breath, his vision darkening from lack of oxygen. Soon, he was too weak to continue, and his stick swung slower and slower, his defenses beginning to falter. A monster transformed from Xiong Jiabao took the opportunity to step forward, its decaying fingers quickly closing in on Li Yougen’s arm!
Terror filled Li Yougen’s eyes. In that moment between life and death, it was as if a slow-motion switch had been flipped. Xiong Jiabao’s movements became slow and clear, and Li Yougen could only watch helplessly as that demonic hand reached for him, ready to drag him into hell…
Just then, the girl, who had been lagging behind, caught up and ran past him. Li Yougen’s gaze hardened in an instant; he gritted his teeth and shouted, twisting around to grab the girl’s arm, yanking her towards him and pushing her onto Xiong Jiabao!
“Ah!” The girl let out her only sharp scream, and Xiong Jiabao’s sharp claws instantly tore through the flesh on her back!
Xin Meng, who had just turned his head, was horrified. He pushed away the zombies in front of him and rushed towards the girl. They were not far apart; he had a chance to save her!
However, just as he reached the girl and was about to pull her back, he overlooked the zombies closing in behind him. One of the zombies’ hands was almost touching his shoulder.
Xin Meng didn’t turn around, but the girl saw everything clearly. She suddenly broke free from Xiong Jiabao’s grasp and lunged at Xin Meng, pushing him away while exposing herself to the zombies. One of her arms was slashed open, warm blood spraying everywhere!
“Run!” Before Xin Meng could react, the girl shoved him hard, her voice hoarse as she growled, pushing him through the only gap between the zombies, while she was completely buried by the surrounding horde. The dense mass of zombies closed in, excited by the scent of blood wafting from the center, even ignoring Xin Meng beside them.
The whole incident happened in the blink of an eye. Xin Meng stood there, stunned, watching the countless heads bobbing around, smelling the thick scent of blood in the air, and hearing the sounds of chewing and feeding…
Even someone as calm as him couldn’t help but tremble, his legs weak, unable to move from where he stood.
Meanwhile, the zombies that Li Yougen had just shaken off were slowly turning back, walking towards Xin Meng. When he finally came to his senses, he found himself surrounded by zombies again.
Was he really going to die here?
Xin Meng had never been particularly afraid of death, which was why he could remain calm. It was just… he couldn’t accept the thought of being eaten by zombies after he died!
If it was going to be like this, he would rather commit suicide!
“Bang, bang, bang!”
Just as he was in despair, he suddenly heard a series of gunshots ringing out! The zombies surrounding him couldn’t even let out a sound before bullet holes appeared in their foreheads, and they fell to the ground.
The shooter’s aim was terrifyingly precise; one by one, the zombies around Xin Meng collapsed, while he remained completely unharmed.
The gunfire continued until there were no more zombies standing, and Xin Meng was completely safe.
Who… who saved him?
For some reason, Xin Meng didn’t think of the other two survivors at all but instead felt a pull towards the direction of the gunfire. In the dim light, he saw a tall, unfamiliar figure approaching him.
The person was walking towards him against the light.
Xin Meng’s heart suddenly raced.
He couldn’t take his eyes off the person, feeling that the other was intently watching him. His legs were no longer weak, but he still couldn’t take a step forward.
When the person reached him, he revealed a resolute and handsome face.
“You… you are…” Xin Meng murmured, his heart pounding as if it were trying to tell him something, a strange sense of familiarity washing over him.
He had seen… this person?
Strangely, he had no impression of this person in his memory.
The other’s beautiful, deep brown eyes reflected Xin Meng’s figure completely. Xin Meng stared into those eyes, feeling as if his gaze was trapped, unable to look away. This feeling was unprecedented and utterly baffling. Xin Meng shook his head violently, trying to rid himself of this strange sensation. At that moment, he heard the other speak in a low, slightly hoarse voice, “You Yi, your teammate.”
Xin Meng came back to his senses, blinking in confusion at his own reaction, and thus didn’t notice the emphasis on the word “your” in the other’s statement.
This time, Xin Meng learned his lesson and first looked at the other’s arm, where a familiar armband hung. He finally felt relieved; it was indeed their… teammate.
Finding the last teammate in such a situation was both a reason to cry and laugh, but now was not the time for sentimentality. The threat had not yet passed; You Yi had only killed the more than twenty zombies surrounding him, and there were still endless zombies rushing towards them. Even the monster transformed from Xiong Jiabao was not dead; once it finished devouring the girl’s body, it would definitely come looking for them!
The man suddenly grabbed Xin Meng’s right wrist and pulled him forward. Xin Meng hurriedly lifted his legs to keep up, glancing back occasionally. The zombies that were “feeding” had caused a blockage, completely clogging the already narrow passage, temporarily hindering the zombies behind them and buying them precious time to escape. However, Xin Meng felt a bit choked up inside.
Although he knew the girl would come back in the next game, it was still hard to bear. He hadn’t even thought that she would make such a move.
The two quickly ran out of the passage and reached the entrance, where a few dead zombies lay scattered on the ground, presumably killed by Dong Xiu and Li Yougen. At that moment, the two were at the door, kicking it hard. Li Yougen was crying and leaning against the door, while Dong Xiu was cursing.
“What’s going on?” Xin Meng asked as he approached.
Li Yougen was sobbing and couldn’t speak, but Dong Xiu was relatively calm. He had sensed something was off early on and had escaped before Xiong Jiabao fully transformed into a monster, so he hadn’t seen many of the events that followed and was unclear about what had happened. He adjusted his glasses that had slipped down his nose, watching the man standing behind Xin Meng warily, questioning, “Who is he?”
“He is our last teammate,” Xin Meng sighed and said, “a true teammate.”
With Dong Xiu’s sharpness, he instantly understood Xin Meng’s meaning, gasping in disbelief, “Damn it, we’ve been played by this game!”
“We’ll talk about the details later. Hurry and open the door! Those military zombies are coming out! If we don’t get out, we’ll die here!” Xin Meng didn’t mention that You Yi had a gun. The man was carrying a large camouflage bag on his back, which should contain the gun, but now his hands were empty, clearly not wanting the others to know. And due to a series of previous events, Xin Meng had completely lost trust in these teammates and hadn’t thought to tell them about it.
Moreover, compared to these teammates he had known for only two days, who were unfriendly and would push you into hell in a crisis, he trusted the man who had saved him even more. At least he could sense that You Yi meant him no harm, which was an inexplicable intuition he had.
“It won’t open; the door is chained!” Dong Xiu kicked the door in frustration. The door shook a few times, opening slightly to reveal a large iron chain in the middle. The outside had been locked at some point, trapping them in the yard.
Just then, zombies in military uniforms began to emerge from the passage, and more and more were approaching the four of them rapidly!
“Open the door! Quickly open the door!” Li Yougen cried helplessly, banging on the door with his hands, but it wouldn’t budge. The others grew tense as well. Xin Meng, for some reason, turned to look at the man named You Yi.
He found that the other’s eyes were calm and indifferent, as if he were not facing a perilous situation but merely a small inconvenience that could be easily resolved. His composure unconsciously relaxed Xin Meng’s taut nerves.
Just as Xin Meng was about to say something, he saw You Yi stride directly to the door, lift his foot, and kick a certain part of the door hard. With a loud clang, the iron chain, thick as a finger, snapped in two, and the door swung open!
What terrifying strength! Dong Xiu stared at the man in shock, the lenses of his glasses reflecting a glimmer of ambiguous light, and he began to calculate in his mind again.
But You Yi seemed to have eyes in the back of his head, suddenly turning around to give Dong Xiu a cold glare. That look was completely different from how he had looked at Xin Meng, filled with coldness and savagery, and a silent warning. The sharpness of his gaze seemed capable of putting someone to death instantly, sending a chill down Dong Xiu’s spine, making him dare not meet his eyes again!
What a terrifying man! Absolutely not to be provoked!
Dong Xiu trembled, concluding in his heart!
