HGEG Chapter 62

Devil's Castle

“Ahhh!”

Li Yougen let out a heart-wrenching scream, using all his strength to squeeze into the narrow gap behind him. The chainsaw grazed almost against his eyes, the sharp wind and deafening buzz completely robbed him of his ability to think. The man grinned, revealing a grotesque smile, his ashen face filled with greedy hunger. His gaze at Li Yougen was like that of a starving ghost who had not eaten for a month suddenly seeing a plate of fragrant roasted chicken, foul-smelling saliva dripping from the corner of his mouth onto the ground.

The gap beneath the stone was already small; although deep, it was not large enough for an adult to crawl into. With nowhere to retreat, Li Yougen saw the man raising the chainsaw to crawl in after him. His eyes turned red with panic, and he instinctively reached for something around him to throw at the man, but his right hand encountered a hard, uneven texture. Was it a magic stone?

But how was he supposed to use it? Throw it at the other person?

As the chainsaw drew closer, Li Yougen could not afford to think. He threw the stone out, and it accidentally bounced off the man’s face. A faint glow emanated silently from the center of the stone, and the man, who was bent over with one leg already entering the stone gap, seemed to have been pressed the pause button, his body frozen in a strange position. The chainsaw fell to the ground, spinning for a while before gradually coming to a stop.

Li Yougen continued to grab stones and dirt around him, throwing them at the man. After a while, seeing that the man still hadn’t moved and the chainsaw had stopped, he finally regained some composure from his fright and naturally noticed the glowing magic stone.

It really worked!

Seizing the opportunity, Li Yougen bypassed the killer and crawled out of the gap. He looked back; the expression on the man’s face still held the excitement of about to catch his prey, no longer resembling a human but rather a demon draped in human skin. Li Yougen couldn’t help but shiver, carefully picking up the chainsaw from the ground, turning it on. The buzzing sound returned, and the sharp blade once again became a white line.

He gripped the chainsaw with both hands, glancing at the back of the killer. Cold sweat poured out in layers from his forehead, running into his eyes. He blinked hard and suddenly shouted loudly, raising the chainsaw above his head and smashing it down onto the man’s back!

“Zeng——Zhi——”

Blood and chunks of flesh splattered back onto Li Yougen, like a powerful stream of water gushing from a burst pipe, drenching his head and face, making it almost impossible to open his eyes.

The chainsaw easily sliced through the skin and muscle tissue but got stuck in the gaps of the bones, unable to go any further. Li Yougen was already terrified out of his wits; he threw the chainsaw forward and sat down heavily on the ground. The heavy chainsaw, along with the man’s body, fell into the stone gap, and the man’s limbs twitched for a moment before quickly going still.

Li Yougen was still screaming, immersed in the terrifying experience of his first kill, the sensation of cutting meat like pork making his stomach churn violently, and he leaned to one side, dry heaving.

“I killed, I killed someone…”

However, he had no time to recover. The sound from this place startled the Scissor Man, who came running from not far away, wielding scissors larger than his head. Li Yougen steeled his heart, pulled out the chainsaw still stuck in the man’s body, and roared as he charged forward!

Dong Xiu had not yet exited the corridor when he caught a whiff of a strong, eye-watering smell of blood.

His heart sank, and he had a rough guess about the chosen demon general.

In a room at the end, soft candlelight flickered. The candles were held up by silver candlesticks shaped like demons, arranged in rows embedded in the surrounding walls, the light bright yet not glaring.

However, the scene unfolding in the room had nothing to do with softness. Six massive wooden crosses were nailed to the ground, each tied with a gaunt, low-level demon, or rather, what used to be demons, now reduced to scattered chunks of flesh.

A burly man clad in armor stood among them, a thorny whip in hand, moving like a serpent, occasionally lashing it onto one of the demons. The sharp stings immediately tore into a puddle of flesh, but the whipped demon merely twitched slightly, having long lost consciousness, unable to even let out a scream.

The walls were stained red, the ground littered with chunks of flesh and blood, comparable to the thirteenth layer of hell—the Blood Pool Hell.

In the quiet room, only the sharp whistling of the thorn whip and the sound of flesh tearing could be heard. The swaying candlelight cast the man’s shadow on the wall, resembling a clawing devil, sending chills down one’s spine. Dong Xiu hesitated for a long time before cautiously stepping into the room.

The man wielding the whip immediately turned around, his crimson eyes locking onto him, filled not only with brutality and savagery but also a chilling boredom…

The furious demon general pushed his slightly slipping helmet with the whip handle, his gaze on Dong Xiu filled with excitement, his hoarse voice cheerfully ringing out: “Great! I’m tired of playing with these people; finally, a new toy has arrived!”

Dong Xiu couldn’t help but take a step back, his legs feeling a bit weak, but he steadied himself and adjusted his glasses. “Hello, my lord, I am not a toy; I am here to pledge my loyalty to you.”

“Humph!” It was unclear which of his words had triggered a landmine, but the furious demon general, who had just been very happy, suddenly erupted in rage, glaring fiercely at Dong Xiu. “I don’t need your lowly thing’s loyalty; what I want is a toy! A toy!”

After saying that, his emotions seemed uncontrollable, and he lashed the whip again. The nearest demon suffered the brunt, getting struck at the waist. The immense force split its already bony waist into two, completely extinguishing its breath.

Dong Xiu understood; this furious demon general was capricious, easily angered, and lacked even the slightest bit of emotional control. Once he got angry, he had to find a way to vent it, truly living up to the name of fury.

Seeing the whip aimed at him, Dong Xiu was so frightened that he almost turned to run back into the corridor. However, when he turned his head, he found that the dark corridor had vanished at some point, replaced by a wall embedded with candlesticks. With no way to retreat, he was trapped in this room!

Since he couldn’t escape, he had to face it. Dong Xiu steeled himself and turned back, frantically brainstorming strategies in his mind!

After all, the title of elite was not earned for nothing. In a flash of inspiration, Dong Xiu came up with a countermeasure. Gaining some confidence, he straightened his chest and shouted just as the thorn whip was about to strike him: “Don’t you think just using a whip is too boring?”

The whip suddenly stopped just a centimeter from his neck, the sharp, bloodied tip and the cold wind it brought up raised goosebumps on his skin. Dong Xiu’s pupils dilated, cold sweat instantly soaking his back.

“Oh?” The furious demon general seemed to be intrigued by his words, slowly retracting the whip, holding it in his hand and stroking it, but his gaze never left Dong Xiu. “Go on.”

Dong Xiu took a deep breath, his heart pounding like a drum, but he didn’t dare to delay, quickly finishing his words. “I, I know many other methods; I can tell you all of them. For example, the breaking on the wheel, and also the waist-chop, skinning, and slow slicing…”

The furious demon general’s eyes grew brighter with each word, almost shining with excitement, and he clapped his hands, laughing heartily: “Good! Good! Good!”

He repeated the word “good” three times, showing just how satisfied he was. Just as Dong Xiu felt a bit relieved, he saw the other party wave his hand, and his body was uncontrollably pulled in front of the furious demon general by an invisible force, then he knelt down with a thud.

Dong Xiu’s face drained of color, thinking he was doomed, but he heard the furious demon general laugh heartily: “You little brat have some ideas! You want to pledge loyalty to me? Fine, as long as you tell me everything you just said, I guarantee you’ll enjoy a life of luxury with me!”

After saying that, he even reached out to pat Dong Xiu’s shoulder, his attitude suddenly becoming very friendly.

What a changeable June day, like a child’s face, changing in an instant.

Although a bloody handprint was immediately left on his shoulder, the heavy stone in Dong Xiu’s heart finally fell. He restrained his trembling voice, trying to respond as steadily and respectfully as possible, “It is my honor.”

The furious demon general had just heard about a novel method and could hardly contain his eagerness. Without giving Dong Xiu any time to adapt, he yanked him up and pushed him in front of one of the demons tied to the cross, eagerly asking: “What is the breaking on the wheel you just mentioned? How do you do it? Hurry and teach me! Otherwise, I’ll make you one of them!”

The demon, with its head bowed, remained motionless, terrifyingly emaciated, as if only a loose layer of skin was draped over its bones, covered in wrinkles, the gaps filled with dried blood, and its iron-blue skin made it look like a corpse from the underworld. Dong Xiu was grabbed by the furious demon general by the hair and pushed forward, his face almost touching that “corpse.” He felt nauseated and immediately closed his eyes, but he didn’t dare to resist, stammering: “The breaking on the wheel, also known as dismemberment, is when a person’s head and limbs are tied to horses or a cart, and then…”

From then on, the furious demon general opened the door to a new world.

How delightful.

Three-headed hellhounds sprinted wildly, each with a rope tied around their waists, the other ends tied to the limbs and head of the same demon, as well as some unspeakable part below, extending in six directions from it. The furious demon general had piled up six mountains of corpses, which were the hellhounds’ favorite food. Even now, putting leashes on them could not stop their mindless rush toward the food, the long ropes quickly tightening.

Dong Xiu stood behind the furious demon general, watching helplessly as the screaming demon was torn into six broken pieces, while the furious demon general danced with excitement, like a child who had successfully pulled a prank.

This scene inexplicably stirred up memories buried deep in Dong Xiu’s mind.

Back then, he was just a child carrying a school bag, and for a time, he was suffocated by his father’s high expectations and the pressure from skipping grades. After school, he would secretly crouch in the grass to catch insects, pulling off their weak legs one by one, the transparent mucus covering his hands, and finally twisting off their heads.

Later, when insects could no longer satisfy him, he began to catch stray dogs and cats.

He would sever their limbs, slice open their bellies, and twist off their heads.

And the expression he had back then…

Was so similar to that of the furious demon general before him.

Unfortunately, his actions were soon discovered by his father, who nearly sent him to a mental hospital. Out of fear, he immediately stopped the cruelty and deliberately forgot the pleasure of trampling the weak underfoot. He studied hard, built connections, and gradually got his life back on track. No one could tell that he had once done such cruel things; they could only see his brilliant and steadily rising resume.

Now, that forgotten sensation of having power over life and death surged forth from his memories once again, uncontrollably.

His trembling hands returned to calmness, and Dong Xiu lowered his eyelids, his gaze swirling with dark tides.
