MBBBA Chapter 35

Recently, everyone in their circle knew that Wei Ning had evolved from a husband who had to return home every night to one who made it a point to return home early every night to spend time with his wife.

It was even rumored that Wei Ning had purchased a four-million-dollar painting as a gift for his wife! However, Wei Ning kept a low profile, forbidding the media from reporting on it, which is why it didn’t become as widespread as the time Zhang Peng made headlines.

Now, every omega had a new mantra: “You’re busy? You don’t have time to go home? Are you busier than Wei Ning? Yet he still manages to be home every day to spend time with his wife!”

Despite being envied by so many omegas, Zhu Yu didn’t feel particularly happy. He used to be able to happily stay at home and paint, but now that Wei Ning was home early every day, Zhu Yu didn’t dare to paint as much for fear of exposing his secret identity.

Zhu Yu begged, “Please, just go back to the office already. The weather hasn’t cooled yet—your company isn’t going bankrupt, is it?”

Wei Ning’s eyes moved from the document on the screen, glancing at Zhu Yu with a smile. “Even if it does, I’ll take care of you. Don’t worry, sweetheart.”

Zhu Yu felt an overwhelming urge to gag. He paced back and forth in the room, thinking that things couldn’t go on like this.

“Old Wei, if you’re going to work anyway, why not just do it at the office?” Zhu Yu tried to reason with him. “What’s the point of bringing it home? Is there any meaning to this?”

Wei Ning turned to look at him and smiled. “Yes, there is. At least we get to talk now.” He then went back to typing. “Work’s busy, but I’ll spend as much time with you as I can.”

Zhu Yu felt like he was going bald from the stress. “I don’t need you to spend time with me like this.”

Wei Ning finished up what he was doing, set the laptop aside, and said, “Okay, tell me how you want me to spend time with you, and I’ll do it.”

Zhu Yu, exhausted, replied, “I just want you to go back to being normal.”

Wei Ning said, “I think this is what’s normal.”

Zhu Yu ignored him.

Wei Ning watched Zhu Yu sulking and briefly considered showing him evidence of Zhu Yu’s crush on him from when he was twenty, forcing him to admit he liked him. But as an alpha, could he really pressure his omega like that? Wei Ning dismissed the idea as unethical.

Zhu Yu’s frustration wasn’t just because Wei Ning’s presence was cutting into his painting time, but also because Wei Ning being home all the time made him constantly aware of the alpha’s pheromones. That week of sweet entanglement had imprinted itself deep into his bones; even if he didn’t want to admit it, his omega body was constantly craving the alpha’s closeness.

Unwilling to face this reality, Zhu Yu was delighted when Wei Ning called the next day to say he had to fly to the UK for a meeting and wouldn’t be back until late.

Hahaha! Zhu Yu laughed internally, feeling like he could finally have some freedom.

Feigning concern, he said, “Be safe, don’t overwork yourself.” Then he slipped in his real agenda, “If it gets too late, don’t bother coming back.”

Wei Ning replied, “You don’t have to wait up for me, but when you wake up, you’ll see me there. I won’t spend the night away, no matter how late it is—that’s my promise to you.”

Zhu Yu felt another wave of nausea.

Wei Ning chuckled and hung up.

Zhu Yu fell asleep, worrying that he’d wake up to find Wei Ning there, but the next morning, he was nudged awake by Simon and realized something was wrong—Wei Ning wasn’t back.

Knowing that Wei Ning was a man of his word, Zhu Yu felt a pang of unease. He took Simon downstairs, only to find Wei Mu, Zhang Jie, and Hong Yi all in the living room, silent and tense.

Zhu Yu couldn’t help but ask, “What’s going on?”

With red-rimmed eyes, Wei Mu handed him her phone. It was a news article reporting a terrorist attack in the UK, with many casualties, including several Chinese nationals.

“We can’t reach him.” Wei Mu said, her voice trembling. “And the report says one of the confirmed Chinese fatalities has the surname Wei.”

“No way!” Zhu Yu immediately denied it. “There are plenty of people with the surname Wei in China.” He stammered.

“The place where Mr. Wei had his meeting is too close to the attack site.” Zhang Jie explained, unable to bear seeing Zhu Yu in denial. “Maybe…”

“Maybe it wasn’t him.” Zhu Yu muttered to himself, shaking his head. “It wasn’t him, I can feel it. Don’t worry, I’ll go find him.” He sounded angry as he added, “Old Wei, you’re really something, promising that I’d see you first thing in the morning. Look at the time! Breaking your word like this, you’re not much of an alpha.” With that, he started to leave.

Hong Yi tried to stop him. “Don’t rush, sir.”

Zhang Jie also chimed in, “Zhu Zhu, let’s wait for more news before doing anything.”

“I’m not rushing, I’m just going to find him.” Zhu Yu said, trying to keep his tone light.

Wei Mu pointed out a critical detail, “You’re still in your pajamas. How are you going to leave the house like that?”

Zhu Yu glanced down, realizing he was indeed still in his husky pajamas. “I guess I was still half-asleep.” he said, slapping his forehead. He went upstairs to change, but as he came back down, Wei Mu stopped him again.

“You’re barefoot! Go put on some shoes; you’ll catch a cold.” Wei Mu said, her voice strained. “You’re the one who’s alive, so you’re more important.”

Wei Mu’s words made Zhu Yu’s heart skip a beat. No, he had to go find Wei Ning! He had to be alive—he was his alpha!

Zhu Yu rushed toward the door, but he ran straight into a firm chest. “Zhu Zhu?” a familiar voice said in surprise.

Zhu Yu looked up and saw a familiar face. Wei Ning was standing right in front of him, perfectly fine, though there was some stubble on his chin, and his eyes were bloodshot. Zhu Yu covered his nose, which had started to sting, and mumbled an excuse for his red eyes, “You…you didn’t even say you were home. You made me bump my nose!”

“Where? Let me see.” the alpha said, taking Zhu Yu’s words at face value and leaning down to inspect his nose. The warm scent of zero-lemon musk was too much for the omega, who finally couldn’t hold back his tears.

Wei Ning, clueless, wondered if his mother had bullied his wife while he was away. As he looked up, he saw his mother also tearing up.

“???” Wei Ning was utterly confused.

Zhu Yu used Wei Ning’s expensive but wrinkled custom-made shirt to wipe his tears and blow his nose. Seeing the state of Wei Ning’s clothes, he knew Wei Ning hadn’t slept all night.

“What’s going on?” Wei Ning asked, his expression serious.

“It’s you!” Wei Mu exclaimed, trying to pinch Wei Ning’s ear as she explained the misunderstanding.

Wei Ning pulled out his phone, realizing it had shut off at some point. “I was too tired.” he explained, “I didn’t notice my phone was off.”

Wei Mu asked, “And what about your secretary? Why couldn’t he get through?”

Wei Ning quickly redirected the blame, “I’ll have a serious talk with him later—he’s been slacking off.”

Wei Mu nodded, slightly calmer now. She noticed Zhu Yu was still standing barefoot on the cold floor and said, “Zhu Zhu, go put on your shoes. The floor’s cold, you don’t want to get sick.”

Wei Ning looked down and saw that while Zhu Yu was fully dressed, he was barefoot. He quickly realized Zhu Yu must have been in such a rush to find him that he forgot his shoes.

Wei Ning felt a surge of reassurance. Zhu Yu’s actions showed that he cared.

Feeling a bit embarrassed, Zhu Yu smiled awkwardly and turned to go back upstairs to put on his shoes, but Wei Ning scooped him up.

“Hey, you—” Zhu Yu started to protest.

Wei Ning grinned, “Were you that worried about me?”

Zhu Yu would never admit that, so he quickly retorted, “I was just worried my human-shaped massager had run off.”

Wei Ning, amused by Zhu Yu’s stubbornness, said nothing, planning to have a proper talk once they were back in their room.

Wei Mu watched the couple, their eyes practically glued to each other as they made their way upstairs. She smiled and remarked to Zhang Jie, “Look at them.”

Zhang Jie chuckled knowingly.

Wei Ning carried Zhu Yu back to their room and set him on the bed. Then, in a pose reminiscent of Simon, he crouched down in front of Zhu Yu, looking up at him and said, “Zhu Zhu, I’m back.”

Zhu Yu felt uncomfortable, wiggling his toes awkwardly as he tried to keep a straight face. “You’re back—so what.”

Wei Ning said, “When I was rushing home this morning, I wasn’t thinking about how you’d be mad at me for breaking my promise. I just really wanted to see you, to see you right away. That’s when I realized that I’ve been coming home early every day not just to spend time with you, but for myself.”

Zhu Yu knew this was a confession, but he wasn’t ready to accept it, so he deliberately asked, “For yourself? You just like working from home, don’t you?”

Wei Ning replied, “So I can see you more.”

Zhu Yu, who was usually sharp-tongued, found himself blushing furiously. After struggling for a moment, he managed to say, “When did you become so slick with your words?”

Wei Ning shook his head, “It’s all the truth.”

Zhu Yu’s heart was racing as he silently cursed Wei Ning for using this move on him. He looked down, absentmindedly playing with Wei Ning’s hand using his pinky.

Wei Ning felt a warm tingle in his heart as Zhu Yu played with his hand. He asked, “So, are you finally giving me a chance? From now on, let’s live well together. What we had was more than just a reaction to your heat. I understand now why my body rejects others’ bodies but not yours—my body was just more honest than my words. It already accepted that I love you.”

“Alright.” Zhu Yu said reluctantly. He was someone who responded better to kindness than to force, and after hearing all these sweet words, he felt his resistance melting away. But not wanting to seem too eager, he added, “Since you’re so in love with me, I guess I’ll reluctantly give you a chance. Let’s see how you do.”

Wei Ning was taken aback for a moment, then he clapped his hands and spun around in place, overjoyed. “Honey, Zhu Zhu, you’ve accepted me, right? Call me ‘husband’—let me hear it so I know this is real.”

Zhu Yu, angry, shouted, “Don’t push your luck!”

Wei Ning coughed to cover his embarrassment. “Zhu Zhu, don’t be shy.” He was getting a bit carried away with his happiness and pulled out his phone, finding the portrait that looked like him. Trying to keep his excitement in check, he said, “You’ve liked me for a long time, haven’t you?”

Zhu Yu’s face turned red as he saw the painting, but then he got angry. “Don’t talk nonsense!”

Wei Ning put the phone next to his face, smiling smugly. “It looks exactly like me!”

Zhu Yu jumped up, trying to grab the phone from him. “Where did you find that? Give it to me, I need to delete it.”

“No.” Wei Ning dodged out of the way. “I like this painting.” Then he confessed again, “Just like I like you.”

Zhu Yu puffed up angrily, chasing Wei Ning around the room to delete the painting. As he dodged, Wei Ning reminded Zhu Yu to put on his slippers and couldn’t help asking, “What were you thinking when you drew it? Were you imagining me, or were you using a photo? I was so clueless at twenty, but you understood so much—teach me how to love you better.”

Zhu Yu was close to losing it. What kind of day was this, with all his secrets getting exposed? And now Wei Ning was practically floating on cloud nine!
