When Bo Xinghang returned to school, he was struck by how unusually quiet the entire class was. The students who typically bounced around and made noise were now all engrossed in their studies.
He made his way to his seat in the back row, close to Xu Yi, and tapped on the desk as he passed, murmuring, “What’s going on with them… Have they lost their minds?”
Just as he finished speaking, he saw Xu Yi struggling to emerge from a pile of books. His face was contorted with agony, looking downright menacing. He replied in a hushed tone, “I’ll be brief~~~but it’s a long story~~~”
Bo Xinghang: “…”
Then you might as well keep quiet.
He had arrived during study time. Once the bell rang, the entire class slumped onto their desks in exhaustion.
For a class of slackers like theirs, focusing and studying for an entire period was a monumental achievement. It was no small feat.
Raising an eyebrow in confusion, Bo Xinghang pulled Xu Yi over to ask privately, “I’ve only been gone for two days. What happened to our class? What kind of shock did they experience to end up like this?”
“Oh, Hang-ge, you clearly haven’t been keeping up with the school forum!”
Xu Yi pulled out his phone, glanced around to ensure no teachers were about to launch a sneak attack, and began scrolling confidently.
“Our school is a key high school, and there’s been talk of a four-school competition happening in two days. We’ll be facing 15th High School, No. 1 High School, and No. 8 High School.”
“No. 8 High School?” Bo Xinghang’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. The mention of the familiar school left him momentarily dazed.
Xu Yi, anticipating his reaction, continued, “Now you get why our class is like this, right? It’s not just us. The entire school is fired up.”
Bo Xinghang nodded in understanding.
Since starting their third year, discussions had shifted away from No. 8 High School, but during the first and second years, it had been a constant topic.
No. 8 High School and Provincial Experimental High School used to be brother schools, with principals maintaining a good relationship and participating in extracurricular activities together.
Over time, the students from both schools became very familiar with each other.
Over time, however, personal disagreements between the principals led to conflicts. Students from No. 8 High School began to pick fights.
For example, they cheated during joint sports events, deliberately shoved people, targeted them maliciously, and consistently outperformed them academically…
The incidents had been numerous. Although tensions had eased by their third year, the issue of exam results remained unresolved. Opportunities for such competitions were rare.
Who could have predicted a four-school tournament right before the college entrance exams? While two other schools were innocently caught in the rivalry, the competition remained intense.
Previously, Bo Xinghang hadn’t cared much for competition or using his brain for this type of rivalry, but now he felt a surge of determination. He bent over, pulled out a book from his backpack, and set his face with a resolute expression.
“I’m going to study now. You can leave.”
“Oh.” Xu Yi knew that Bo Xinghang had recently been absorbed in his studies for love. He nodded but then inadvertently noticed a red mark on Bo Xinghang’s pale neck and suddenly shouted, “Hang-ge!!”
The shout, reminiscent of Grandma Bo’s exclamations, startled Bo Xinghang. Even the students who had been slumped over their desks sprang up and turned to look at the back row.
“…”
The atmosphere became awkward.
Bo Xinghang couldn’t bring himself to look at anyone. Once his classmates had settled down, he asked, “Dude, I know you’re excited, but there’s no need to react like this. Let’s have a real—”
“Hang-ge~~~” Xu Yi’s voice was lowered, but he couldn’t hide the fidgetiness in his tone.
Bo Xinghang’s words were cut off, and he looked at him with a frown. “Spit it out if you’ve got something to say.”
“Hang-ge~~~ you, you, you…”
Xu Yi wanted to speak loudly but held back, feeling extremely uncomfortable. His eyes were red with urgency as he pointed to the red mark on Bo Xinghang’s neck, stammering, “You just became an adult! This is…!”
Bo Xinghang followed Xu Yi’s gesture and glanced down, only then realizing that, in the midst of fooling around with Doctor Ji, he hadn’t noticed the marks left behind.
Feeling guilty, he covered his neck with his hand and hurriedly said, “Don’t go spouting nonsense.”
This statement was far from convincing; his reaction only confirmed the suspicions.
Xu Yi took a deep breath and continued, “Hang-ge~~~ you actually slept with someone!”
Bo Xinghang: “…”
What?
What on earth is he talking about?
Bo Xinghang frowned, genuinely curious to open this guy’s head and see what wild ideas he could come up with.
“What are you thinking?”
“The same thing you’re thinking! Don’t try to deny it.” Still shocked, Xu Yi became even more worried about the girl in question. He hurriedly advised, “Since you’ve already gone this far, as someone who’s a year older than you, I need to have a serious talk with you.”
Bo Xinghang raised an eyebrow. “Alright, let’s hear what you’ve got.”
Thinking Bo Xinghang had indirectly admitted to everything, Xu Yi earnestly continued, “You need to really care for her.”
Bo Xinghang nodded. He really, really cared about Doctor Ji.
“Be kind to her, don’t let her suffer, and never be a jerk.”
“I would never.” Bo Xinghang couldn’t love Doctor Ji more, and the idea of hurting him was absurd. He then asked, “Anything else?”
“Let me think.” Xu Yi scratched his chin for a moment, then leaned in closer and whispered, “And one last thing, the most important thing: did you… you know, use protection? You absolutely can’t let her get pregnant before marriage.”
“…”
“Did you hear me?”
“…”
Heh.
I shouldn’t have listened to you in the first place.
Even as Xu Yi was being shooed away by Bo Xinghang, he felt wronged, thinking his good intentions were being ignored. Before leaving, he kept nagging until all he got was a roll of the eyes from Bo Xinghang.
Xu Yi: “I’m only saying this for your own good!”
With a deadpan expression, Bo Xinghang waved him off and returned to his studies, ignoring Xu Yi’s disappointed gaze.
But after working through just a couple of problems, he remembered the red mark on his neck needed to be covered.
While Xu Yi’s notice hadn’t been a big deal—at most, he’d just lecture with good intentions—others might not react the same way.
Thanks to his reputation as the “school bully,” any small action could become the talk of the school. If someone else noticed and uploaded clear, uncensored, 360-degree photos to the school forum, his attention level on campus… would skyrocket.
That would be so fucking embarrassing.
With a cold expression, Bo Xinghang decided to head to the store and buy some band-aids.
–
The Provincial Experimental High School had two teaching buildings separated by a considerable distance, dividing the school into South and North Campuses. Bo Xinghang had attended classes at the North Campus during his first and second years of high school, only moving to the South Campus in his third year.
The South Campus boasted a great academic atmosphere. It was quieter and less crowded, and, having been built later, it featured significantly better greenery compared to the North Campus. However, the infrastructure was not as comprehensive.
For example, there was no basic convenience store.
If third-year students wanted to buy snacks, they had to walk a long way from the South Campus to the bottom of the North Campus, mingling with the lively first and second-year students.
The third-year students couldn’t be bothered with the hassle.
By the beginning of the term, some students were still willing to make the trek to the North Campus, but as exams approached and every minute became crucial, they preferred to spend that time studying rather than making the long journey.
Thus, when Bo Xinghang arrived at the store, he found no third-year students around. Instead, there was a guy who looked like a third-year student but wasn’t wearing a school uniform.
He stood at the checkout entrance, gesticulating wildly as he explained, “Jiejie! I really do have money; I just forgot to bring it. Could you please give me the stuff first? I need it urgently. I’ll come back with the money later!”
The cashier auntie, whom he addressed as “Jiejie,” was stern and showed no pleasure at being called that. With her hands on her hips, she said, “No! Put the items down and go get the money. Only then will I let you take the items!”
“Jiejie! Jiejiejiejie! I told you it’s urgent!” The man was sweating anxiously.
Cashier: “No way! You must—”
The exchange seemed to have been stuck in this loop for a while, and Bo Xinghang found it increasingly boring. He withdrew his attention and headed toward the household goods section.
This was the only convenience store on campus and was well-stocked with a wide variety of items. Many parents worked here just to see their children more often. Staffing was never an issue, and everything was kept organized.
Bo Xinghang checked again and confirmed that the band-aids he needed were out of stock.
He pressed his lips together and walked out with a displeased expression.
As soon as he stepped outside, he noticed the same guy still arguing with the cashier, while a long line of people had formed behind him. Many were growing impatient and urging him to hurry up.
“Senior, can you hurry up?”
“He might not even be a senior. He’s not wearing a uniform. How did Blabbermouth let him in? Maybe he sneaked in.”
Blabbermouth was the school’s disciplinary director, known for catching students who broke rules or violated regulations.
“No way… You might be right…”
“Exactly!” The first girl nodded and shouted to the cashier, “Wang Tong’s mom! Stop talking to him. He probably sneaked in from outside the school. Report him to Blabbermouth!”
Someone else chimed in, “Yeah! Wang Tong’s mom, the bell’s about to ring. Let us check out first!”
The cashier thought it made sense. She placed the guy’s items to the side and called out, “Alright! I won’t hold you up. Come and check out.”
“Thank you to the beautiful and lovely Wang Tong’s mom!”
The cashier laughed at the compliment. “Always such a sweet talker!”
As Bo Xinghang was about to leave, he noticed that the bag was filled with boxes of medicine. While he didn’t recognize most of them, he spotted a box of band-aids.
A whole big box of them. No wonder he hadn’t been able to find any earlier; they were all here.
Bo Xinghang lowered his gaze, his long lashes casting shadows over his eyes. After a moment of hesitation, he approached the cashier.
“Jie.” He pointed to the guy beside him. “I know him. He’s from my class. He got his uniform dirty last night, and our homeroom teacher is aware of it.”
Bo Xinghang, known as the “school bully,” was quite famous. He had been quiet before, so no one had paid much attention to him. But as soon as he spoke up, everyone noticed the “school bully” was there.
While he was still speaking, the guy he’d vouched for looked at him in sudden shock. Bo Xinghang took out his wallet and said to the cashier, “Auntie, could you please ring up his stuff? I’ll pay for it.”
The cashier nodded skeptically, took the money, and gave her usual scolding.
“You kids really are… so hard for parents to worry about. When your clothes get dirty, it’s still the parents who have to wash them. And they have to help report it too? …Oh, well, be more careful next time.”
Hearing the familiar yet unfamiliar reprimand, Bo Xinghang was momentarily taken aback. He paused for a few seconds before nodding. “…Okay.”
After paying, the cashier handed him a bag of medicine. He took out a band-aid and handed the rest to the guy.
“Make sure you keep your word and come by Class 15 to pay me back later.”
The medicine didn’t seem like much, but they were all expensive items. Bo Xinghang was tight on money at the moment, so he couldn’t afford to cover a stranger’s purchases for nothing.
The guy was too excited to notice Bo Xinghang’s attitude as he hugged the medicine and exclaimed, “Little brother! I’ve been working here for so long, and I finally got to see you in person!”
He looked like a fan meeting their idol, as if he might faint at any moment.
Little brother?
…What’s wrong with him?
Bo Xinghang discreetly stepped back and looked at him. “Student, who are you…”
The guy quickly shook his head. “No, no, I’m not a student. I’m Bai Muyang, a teacher at the infirmary!”
Bai Muyang.
Bo Xinghang thought for a moment but didn’t recall hearing that name before. He replied coolly, “Oh, well, Teacher, please make sure to pay me back soon.”
“That’s not it…” Bai Muyang looked him up and down, noting that Senior Ji’s younger brother had an impressive appearance and physique. The family genes were clearly strong. With his indifferent attitude, he was just like Senior Ji.
After a moment’s hesitation, Bai Muyang pointed at himself and asked, “You don’t know who I am?”
Bo Xinghang was even more confused. “Should I?”
“Well, I guess there’s no reason you would know me…” Bai Muyang reflected, realizing he had been so excited to see him in person that he forgot Bo Xinghang wouldn’t know him.
So Bai Muyang added, “I’m Senior Ji’s junior. I’m not sure if you knew, but now you do!”
Bo Xinghang: “…”
This was his first time meeting someone familiar with Doctor Ji. It should have been a serious matter, but he didn’t expect it to unfold like this.
Meanwhile, Bai Muyang stood there hugging his medicine, grinning like an idiot.
Watching him, Bo Xinghang couldn’t help but think… though it might sound unkind… that Bai Muyang was just as foolish as Xu Yi.
