Chapter 10 – Let it all go, along with her unrequited love.
Gu Su hid behind the door of the fire escape, her heart thumping.
She completely didn’t expect Zhang Chengyu to show up at the Liu An Building, there were only a few days left before the New Year, she didn’t want to cause trouble and let Zhang Chengyu know that she was working at the Liu An Building.
If this were to come out, both the Zhang He Group and the Zhang family would lose face.
Her body was still weak after the high fever, her legs were a bit weak and her back was sweating.
After an unknown amount of time, that door was discreetly knocked twice, Luo Xiaoan’s voice rang out, “Susu, they were lured away by cousin.”
Gu Su peeked out and looked, her heart palpitating, “Thank you Xiao An, or else I would have been caught in the act.”
Luo Xiaoan scratched her head, she didn’t understand, “You two really don’t look like a couple, Su Su, you have to think about it, this can’t go on like this, I see you getting thinner and thinner.”
Gu Su was silent for a moment and slowly straightened her back, “Yes, it’s time to make a break.”
Her eyes flickered with an unknown flame, the corners of her pale mouth pursed, the pain on her face flickered.
Luo Xiaoan held her hand sympathetically, such a wonderful woman, but fell headlong into the grave of marriage, she was indeed correct in fleeing the marriage.
“Su Su, if there’s anything you want me to help you just say it.” Luo Xiaoan solemnly urged.
Gu Su nodded gratefully.
There wasn’t much going on in the office, and Gu Su was also worried that Zhang Cheng Yu would inexplicably kill another horse or something, so she took her leave and went home. It just so happened that the company would start its spring break tomorrow, and even with the legal holidays, there would be a total of twelve days.
There are still four days free before the year, Gu Su arranged these four days to be very colorful.
At home the things that belong to her were not much, in addition to some clothes and jewelry, her most possessions are some messy books and discs. Some of them are ancient books, some of them are anthologies, and they can be packed up in several big boxes.
The sound quality of the grand piano was excellent.
With the white curtains fluttering in the wind, she sat on the piano bench playing a gentle and lingering love song, and Zhang Chengyu was humming softly at the window, his gaze falling fondly on her.
This was the most beautiful scene she had ever fantasized about.
It was a pity that it was no longer possible to realize it, and her efforts for more than two years had finally come to naught.
The black and white keys rose and fell, flowing music resounding in her fingertips.
Although she hadn’t touched the keyboard for so long, the notes she once remembered were still so familiar, and the occasional stagnation didn’t in any way hinder the feelings that spilled out of her heart.
She practiced a few tunes, her fingers were much more flexible, only her fingertips were a little raw from not practicing for so long, sitting on the piano bench and resting for a moment, she took down a small box from the shelf of the bookcase.
It was a lockable combination box that held her treasures.
There wasn’t much in the case, a few magazines, a hand-woven chain, and a few pieces of sheet music.
There are three magazines in total, they are identical school magazines, one has been around for a long time, while the other two are as new as they were at the beginning, and you can still smell the light ink scent when you get closer.
The cover is a photo of Zhang Chengyu sitting on a sofa, the photography department students captured it well, against the light, Zhang Chengyu’s handsome and stern at a glance.
When she opened the school magazine, she saw an exclusive interview, written by Gu Su and polished by two other classmates. She could already recite it by heart.
There is Zhang Chengyu’s signature on the title page. His handwriting is like his personality, and his sharpness is revealed in his strokes.
After this issue of the school magazine was published, the original 200 copies were sold out. Many people asked people to come to the editorial department of the school magazine to ask for a copy through the back door. The teacher in charge was so happy that he specially approved the funds to let the students in the editorial department have a big meal.
She secretly hid three copies at that time, one for reading, one for signing, and one for backup. She was laughed at by several classmates for a long time.
The chain was made before the agreed meeting. She chose a retro leather rope with silver buckles and bodhi beads alternating. Each knot condensed her longing and fantasy.
It’s a pity that this gift could not be given away.
Not wanting to look at it again, she casually put the chain back in the box, took out the sheet of music and sat back on the piano bench.
Those were a few pop songs that she had idly written to accompany her after she got married, fantasising about playing them one day when she and Zhang Chengyu truly fell in love with each other, enjoying the surprise in her lover’s eyes.
She casually pressed a few notes, and the cloud-like arpeggios sounded, the familiar melody echoing in the small space.
Because I will think of you.
I’m afraid to face myself.
My will is always eaten up by loneliness;
Because you will always remind.
The past will never pass.
There is a true love that is not mine.
……
In a flash, Gu Su was in tears, the moment to let go has really come, but why is her heart still so reluctant to let go?
The time of the Spring Festival flew by, the small New Year’s Eve in the Gu family passed byOn the first day of the New Year, all the relatives gathered at the Zhang’s mansion, and it was lively. The second day of the New Year was the day when the son-in-law returned home according to the custom of N City. According to convention, Zhang Chengyu should return home to pay New Year’s greetings.
Since the high fever that day, Zhang Chengyu has almost disappeared except for sleeping at night, and Gu Su is also busy with her own affairs, and the dialogue between the two of them is nearly a handful.
Supplements, famous wines, antiques, Zhang Cheng Yu’s manners are well done every year, and this year is no exception.
Zhang Chengyu remained indifferent, Gu Changqing remained so enthusiastic that he felt flattered. Only Sun Qing knew nothing, just looking at her son-in-law, the more she looked at him, the more joyful she became.
“Cheng Yu ah, don’t buy these things in the future, we’re all family, what’s the point of wasting all this money.”
“It should be.”
“Su Su, Cheng Yu, what do you two like to watch? Don’t accompany me to watch these uninteresting programmes.”
“I don’t care.”
Gu Su watched Sun Qing and Zhang Chengyu answering one after another, her heart was a little sour, she just leaned in next to Sun Qing and said, “Mom, it’s rare for us to watch TV with you a few times a year, so don’t make it difficult.”
Sun Qing was satisfied: “You young people are busy, unlike me, I have one foot in the coffin.”
Gu Changqing was not happy to hear this, “What are you talking about? You’re talking about this kind of bad luck at New Year’s Eve.”
“Fine, I’m wrong, okay?” Sun Qing quickly changed her words, “Everyone will live a long life.”
The lunch was sumptuous, although the nanny had gone back home, Gu Changqing was a master in the kitchen, and the table of dishes was decent.
Everyone drank some wine together, chatting and eating, the atmosphere was quite amicable. At the end of the day when everyone had almost eaten, Gu Su put his chopsticks down, took a deep breath, and looked solemn: “Mom and Dad, I’m sorry, today, besides paying my New Year’s respects, I have something important to say to you.”
The other three people’s gazes fell on her.
Gu Su smiled at Gu Changqing and slowly took out two pieces of paper from her own bag, “Dad, this is the five per cent shareholding transfer letter of Zhanghe Group.”
Zhanghe Group is a listed company with a market capitalisation of nearly 100 billion and a good future, a five per cent shareholding is immeasurable, Gu Changqing’s eyes instantly lit up, quickly picking up the shareholding book and reading it.
Sun Qing was also quite happy, this was considered the Zhang family’s formal acceptance of Gu Su: “Have you thanked the in-laws? Su Su, you should be filial to your parents in the future.”
Zhang Cheng Yu hummed lightly, looking at Gu Su with a mocking smile.
The corners of Gu Su’s mouth curled up slightly, returning a shallow smile, “Are you mocking me for being shallow, money-minded, and shamelessly despicable?”
Gu Changqing and Sun Qing’s faces instantly changed, and Zhang Cheng Yu restrained his smile, a few moments of consternation appearing in his eyes.
“Dad, are you trying to praise me for my skillful means and a profitable job?” Gu Su looked at Gu Changqing with a smile.
“Su Su you …… what’s wrong with you?” Sun Qing was simply dumbfounded, “How do you talk to your father like this?”
Gu Su’s heart throbbed, she didn’t know what role Sun Qing had played in this matter, she preferred to believe that Sun Qing truly cared for her and knew nothing about it.
“I’m sorry, mum, and, dad, I’m really sorry, I can’t be your pawn anymore, Cheng Yu and I don’t get along, we can’t be together, this equity book, I have to give it back to him now, if you really like it, just read it for a few more minutes, I don’t think Cheng Yu will mind too much.”
Gu Changqing stayed for a few seconds, and slapped his palm on the table with a loud bang, “What are you babbling about! Cheng Yu, don’t pay any attention to her.”
Gu Su smiled, but there was sadness in her eyes, “Dad, in front of everyone today, tell me clearly, why exactly did Cheng Yu and I sleep together back then, was it because I spiked that glass of water?”
Gu Changqing was caught off guard and looked woefully confused, “What are you saying, why can’t I understand ……”
Zhang Chengyu slowly and methodically caught a grain of peanut rice and chewed it, watching them with interest.
Gu Su smiled tiredly, “If you don’t understand then I’ll say it straight, with my sister dead, and there’s no one left to climb the ranks of the rich and powerful family for you, you weren’t willing to let the duck that had come to your mouth fly away, so you moved in on me, setting up a trap to make Zhang Chengyu your youngest son-in-law, and in the end, you made me take the blame for you. Dad, you’re punishing your daughter in this way, and you really don’t have the slightest bit of guilt in your heart?”
Gu Changqing’s face was green for a while, struggling for a while before he squeezed out a smile: “You’re too stubborn, why are you talking about this on New Year’s Eve, Cheng Yu isn’t pursuing this matter, is it meaningful for the two of us to argue about this? If there are problems, let’s talk about them behind closed doors, and Dad can apologise to you however you want.”
“clap, clap, clap”, a burst of applause sounded from the side, Zhang Chengyu slowly and methodically clapped his hands, smiled and said, “Su Su, acting is very tiring, take a break on New Year’s Day.”
As if her heart had been hit hard, Gu Su almost stopped breathing.
He thought she was acting with Gu Changqing.
Gu Su touched her chest, almost thinking it was dripping with blood. She sat woodenly for a few moments, stood up and pulled the equity letter and placed it in front of Zhang Cheng Yu: “Thank Grandpa, Mom and Dad for me, there’s not much of a property dispute between the two of us, so we can just sign together and go to the Civil Affairs Bureau when the time comes.”
Gu Changqing raised his hand and went to take those two pieces of paper, simply furious: “Su Su what are you doing, what good end of the divorce, let’s have a good conversation ……”
Gu Su never bothered to look at him again, took her bag and headed out.
Before she could pull open the door, behind her Sun Qing called out her name with a trembling voice: “Wait a minute, Gu Changqing what exactly did you do ……SuSu won’t lie ……”
Gu Su’s footsteps paused, but did not stop. Let everything be in the past, along with her love that she couldn’t ask for.
