INHA Chapter 124

Loving the cubs

That was a strange entity, completely fused with the airplane. If it weren’t for Xu Dongyou’s ability to see resentful spirits, he probably wouldn’t have noticed it. He prodded the thing with his dagger and the swirling gray mist immediately dissipated.

At the same time, the resentful spirit sitting there seemed to display an even more sinister expression. Meanwhile, Xu Dongyou’s headset relayed information from other operatives: “The face of the resentful spirit in the sky seems to have grown larger.”

This made Xu Dongyou realize he hadn’t made a mistake; this was the source of evil that he was looking for. He no longer hesitated, quickly taking out his sealing box and prying the entity loose to place it inside, sealing it away.

Outside the window, the resentful spirit’s face grew even more grotesque and the surrounding dark clouds began to close in with a terrifying atmosphere. Thunder rumbled and it started to rain. Soon, the rain fell to the ground. Some who hadn’t managed to seek shelter were instantly struck with pain and quickly lost their breath.

Others screamed in panic, but fortunately, there weren’t many people outside. The authorities had already issued a warning, advising the public to stay indoors and avoid looking at the face.

Yet, a few reckless individuals couldn’t resist sneaking a glance and even ran outside. The moment they were caught in the rain, they collapsed and died.

Those hiding inside the buildings who had seen the resentful spirit’s face grew even more fearful, realizing they had somehow escaped harm. Just as they were feeling anxious, an urgent news announcement broke in.

Anyone who had seen the resentful spirit’s face was to avoid the rain at all costs or they would fulfill the two conditions for the spirit to kill: first, seeing the spirit’s face, and second, coming into contact with rainwater.

Fortunately, only a few people succumbed to death; the rest were still alive. However, they couldn’t remain indoors forever and could only hope that the authorities would resolve the threat quickly.

The parents of the resentful spirit mourned the dead with deep regret and unease, questioning why their son had become a resentful spirit and harmed others—it felt like a curse upon their household!

Inside the airplane, Xu Dongyou learned of the chaos outside and hurried to intensify his attacks on the resentful spirit. This spirit could only fulfill the two killing conditions previously mentioned, but Xu Dongyou was safe inside the airplane, avoiding the rain. That’s why dark clouds and lightning appeared, aiming to strike the plane and let rainwater in.

The airplane began to shake violently and the passengers started to scream, desperately trying to open the doors and escape. Xu Dongyou quickly used vines to bind the door, preventing anyone from leaving.

If they went out, they would meet those two fatal conditions.

Yet the passengers realized that the airplane wasn’t safe either, as it could be struck by lightning or crash at any moment. They were eager to leave and get to the helicopter still outside, but Xu Dongyou’s actions instantly drew their ire.

“Let us out! I don’t want to die here!”

“How can you keep us locked up? The plane is already unsafe.”

“You’re with the authorities; you can’t trap us common people to die with you!”

However, others believed Xu Dongyou had his reasons for doing this; they just needed him to explain. While attacking the resentful spirit, Xu Dongyou quickly replied, “Because if you go out, you will trigger the resentful spirit’s killing opportunity. You will surely die.”

Everyone instantly fell silent.

Those who had been clamoring to go outside now felt fear. “But if we don’t go out, we’ll eventually die here anyway.”

“Can you just stop talking? Can’t you see he’s fighting something?” An elderly man couldn’t stand it anymore and pulled the person back, causing everyone to involuntarily look at the empty seat again, their imaginations running wild with the idea that a resentful spirit might be there, making them even more frightened.

Everyone sat trembling in the corners, afraid to make a sound, lest they disturb Xu Dongyou and the battle with the resentful spirit.

When Xu Dongyou noticed the resentful spirit’s power starting to wane, he quickly applied an immobilizing talisman. The thunder outside abruptly ceased and Xu Dongyou immediately sealed the spirit away. The dark clouds that had hung ominously above vanished, revealing a clear sky.

The rain naturally stopped, along with the face of the resentful spirit.

Xu Dongyou looked up and saw that the evil aura clinging to everyone had also disappeared. He released the vines and said to the group, “The plane should be back to normal. Let’s see if we can fly it properly.”

The pilot immediately complied, and sure enough, the plane that had been unresponsive began to function normally. They quickly contacted ground control and sought the nearest airport for landing.

As for the helicopter, it was no longer needed, so it simply turned back.

Before long, the plane touched down. As everyone stepped out, they felt as if they had returned from another world. The livestream continued, buzzing with chatter; previously, many in the comments had argued that the people on the plane were selfish. But upon reflection, in that situation, they might not have been as calm as Xu Dongyou had been.

One could only say that it was fortunate everyone was safe. Dwelling on past events held no significance. Moreover, Xu Dongyou’s performance during the crisis had truly impressed many, making them see him as reliable and trustworthy. Feelings of admiration and trust surged like a tide, coalescing within Xu Dongyou and making him feel his strength had reached a new peak.

In the bright sky, it seemed that a red light suddenly vanished, as if it were an illusion, causing Xu Dongyou to momentarily freeze, the face of Zhu Yuan flashing through his mind.

He forced himself to dismiss that face, refusing to let himself get distracted. The red light he had seen might not have been Zhu Yuan; perhaps he was overthinking it.

Next, Xu Dongyou joined the others from the Anomaly Handling Bureau for a press conference, where he recounted the aftermath of the incident. After that, he could finally go home. Sure enough, when his parents saw him, they couldn’t help but shed tears. That evening, they prepared a feast for him.

Other neighbors also brought numerous gifts to express their gratitude, recognizing that it was thanks to Xu Dongyou that the situation had been resolved smoothly, allowing everyone to return to safety.

Following that, Xu Dongyou resumed his normal work routine. Unbeknownst to him, half a month had passed. During this time, he hadn’t checked in on Zhu Yuan and the Anomaly Handling Bureau hadn’t summoned him either, so he simply chose to bury his head in the sand and pretend he didn’t know.

Until one day, while Xu Dongyou was backstage at a live-streaming event, the ground suddenly shook. A massive creature burst forth from the earth, immediately sweeping up anyone it saw to devour. Without a moment to spare for the live stream, Xu Dongyou dashed forward to fight the monster, unaware that the ongoing broadcast was capturing everything.

Xu Dongyou’s expression turned exceptionally serious. He had to fight the monster while also protecting the panicked people running around, risking a stampede. He felt utterly overwhelmed.

Fortunately, the nearby police station responded quickly, rushing over to help control the scene and attack the monster. The closest handlers also came to assist, but they soon discovered that this creature was extraordinarily powerful; their attacks seemed almost ineffective.

Clearly, this was a very strong monster. Xu Dongyou fought desperately, trying to lure it away from the crowd, but the creature kept following the terrified people, devouring them as screams of fear echoed around.

Xu Dongyou’s eyes turned red with urgency and anger. However, despite his newfound strength, he felt utterly powerless at this moment. All he could do was manipulate earthen walls and vines to protect those around him.

However, in their panic, the people continued to run chaotically, disrupting Xu Dongyou’s plans. He had to intervene personally, ultimately suffering injuries and spitting blood from the monster’s attack.

Suddenly, another roar erupted from a distance.

Xu Dongyou’s face went pale.

There were two monsters! This was clearly a sinister plot. He had no choice but to attack the creature with everything he had, aiming for a mutually destructive outcome. Finally, as the other monster approached, he managed to kill the first one.

But he was already injured to the point of being nearly unable to fight back. The other monster was intercepted by other handlers who had arrived in time, but soon they found themselves unable to hold it off. The creature sprouted two bony wings and had locked its gaze on Xu Dongyou, charging at him swiftly, claws poised to crush his body.

Xu Dongyou’s demon energy and spiritual energy had long been depleted.

Everyone’s hearts sank as they watched. Xu Dongyou gripped his weapon tightly, preparing to counterattack when suddenly a red light flashed, and a handsome man with a distinguished air appeared, wielding a sword made of an unknown material that pierced through the monster.

A single, lethal strike.

Silence fell over everyone. Even though they were too far away to see the man’s face clearly, they could sense an overwhelming awe emanating from him, a deep-seated respect that made them feel like kneeling.

Who is this person?

Why is he so powerful? More importantly, why do they feel such fear and reverence towards him, almost wanting to kneel???

Xu Dongyou looked up, his eyes wide with disbelief. He couldn’t believe that the person before him was Zhu Yuan, who had previously claimed he wouldn’t overly assist humanity and would only help in the final battle.

But now, he was here.

Could it be that he came because Xu Dongyou was in danger?

A thought instinctively crossed Xu Dongyou’s mind, but he quickly suppressed it, feeling his heart race as if something was off.

The sword in Zhu Yuan’s hand vanished. He turned his gaze calmly up and down, assessing Xu Dongyou, and asked, “Can you still stand?”

Xu Dongyou felt as though he sensed a hint of relief from Zhu Yuan and his heart began to race uncontrollably. He stumbled to his feet and replied, “I’m fine; just a little hurt.”

Hearing this, Zhu Yuan’s expression darkened slightly, but he still maintained his calm demeanor, saying, “Well, I’ll take my leave now.”

Xu Dongyou was momentarily taken aback but nodded.

Zhu Yuan ascended into the air and vanished in the blink of an eye, shocking everyone present and the viewers of the livestream. Curiosity sparked among them.

Who exactly was this man, who appeared so powerful and instilled such fear?

How could he be so formidable, achieving a one-hit kill?

Many in the Anomaly Handling Bureau were also puzzled, inquiring about the identity of this handler who seemed even stronger than Xu Dongyou.

The chief and other members of the demon clan remained silent for a long time, faintly sensing that Zhu Yuan seemed to care deeply for Xu Dongyou; otherwise, he wouldn’t have appeared so promptly.

It seemed that the mighty Zhulong indeed cared for the young.

This was conclusive.

Moonlit: Sigh. I thought it would be that scene ;-;
