WDYS Chapter 6

Tiao Tiao

That night, Fu Mingchuan had his way with You Wen four times before finally letting him go. Throughout it all, You Wen kept crying, but the more he cried, the rougher Fu Mingchuan became. You Wen scratched and hit him, venting his frustration. His nails even left bloody marks on Fu Mingchuan’s back, yet Fu Mingchuan only retaliated by spanking him red as if in punishment.

Since he had been taken care of afterward, You Wen’s condition didn’t worsen, but he slept until late the next afternoon. It seemed Fu Mingchuan had no need to go to work, as he stayed by his side, looking after him.

Aside from feeling like his body was falling apart, You Wen’s head didn’t throb as it had before. He wore one of Fu Mingchuan’s shirts and a pair of boxers that could pass as shorts, just like countless times after they had been intimate.

Fu Mingchuan, on the other hand, was dressed in a shirt and tie, ready to head out at a moment’s notice. Or perhaps he had already been out and come back.

When Fu Mingchuan saw that You Wen was awake, he immediately helped him freshen up, then brought dinner into the room. As You Wen ate his porridge, he kept staring at Fu Mingchuan, who finally asked, “What’s on your mind?”

You Wen didn’t understand how Fu Mingchuan could still treat him like this after they had ended their engagement. Today, he acted as if everything was perfectly normal, as if nothing had changed.

He averted his gaze and stared at the side dishes on the plate, asking, “So, does that mean I don’t have to repay the money I owe you?”

Fu Mingchuan looked at him for a long time before replying, “You never had to repay it.”

The food suddenly tasted like sawdust in You Wen’s mouth. He forced himself to swallow, his voice dry and resigned, “Alright, then.”

Fu Mingchuan wasn’t sure why You Wen seemed unhappy again, but he remembered that You Wen always liked to buy things—new gifts could cheer him up a bit. So he asked, “Is there anything else you want?”

You Wen almost burst into tears but held them back. He rattled off a long list of items—nothing expensive, just cheap snacks, everyday items, trivial things, and not-so-trivial things—all of it.

Fu Mingchuan had an excellent memory. After You Wen finished, he said, “Got it.”

Then he added, “I’ve arranged an apartment for you on Ganxi Road. Once you’re feeling better, I’ll take you to see it. It’s close to the school, so you won’t have to get up early for the commute.”

It took You Wen a long time to respond, “I haven’t said goodbye to Auntie yet.”

“She’s extending her stay for another week. I’ll talk to her,” Fu Mingchuan replied.

A couple of days later, You Wen moved into the apartment Fu Mingchuan had set up for him. It was a duplex in a high-end residential area on Ganxi Road.

In the garage, Fu Mingchuan parked two cars for him: a small sports car he had liked before and a BMW worth over four hundred thousand yuan that Chen Jiyu had bought him. Fu Mingchuan told him to alternate between the two.

Since the apartment was close to the kindergarten, You Wen didn’t drive, opting instead to walk there daily. Sometimes, when meeting up with Zhou Hui, he would take the car out.

After a few outings, Zhou Hui noticed the sports car and asked where it came from. You Wen nonchalantly replied that Fu Mingchuan bought it.

Zhou Hui was taken aback, staring in disbelief as he asked, “Are you back together with Fu Mingchuan?” It took You Wen a moment to find the right words to describe their relationship, “He’s supporting me now.”

He gave him a place to live, money to spend, never contacted him during the day, but returned every night to sleep with him. That was basically what being kept meant, wasn’t it?

Zhou Hui immediately erupted in curses, “Who the hell does Fu Mingchuan think he is, daring to… to…” He struggled to finish the sentence before blurting out, “What does he take you for?”

You Wen smiled faintly, “It’s nothing. Even when I was with him before, he was like this.”

Zhou Hui wanted to say more, but seeing the emptiness in You Wen’s eyes, he stopped himself. Before being taken away by Chen Jiyu, You Wen hadn’t been like this. Now, not only did his eyes no longer sparkle, but his voice had lost its liveliness too.

That night, when You Wen returned home, Fu Mingchuan was already in the living room waiting. As soon as he saw You Wen, he asked, “Where were you?”

You Wen took off his shoes and placed them neatly in the cabinet, standing barefoot as he searched for his slippers. “I went out to dinner with Zhou Hui.”

Fu Mingchuan recalled someone from You Wen’s circle who had been mentioned often. “Zhou’s second son?”

“Mm,” You Wen replied, adding, “You’ve met him before.”

It had been a time when You Wen, out with friends, had pouted and asked Fu Mingchuan to come pick him up. Fu Mingchuan did show up, but his face remained cold the whole time. When Zhou Hui greeted him, he barely nodded, frowning the entire time without saying a word.

Even so, all of You Wen’s friends, except Zhou Hui, were overly enthusiastic toward Fu Mingchuan. Back then, You Wen didn’t understand why, but now he had a bit more of an idea.

Fu Mingchuan put away the documents in his hand, seemingly deep in thought as he asked, “What car does he drive?”

You Wen blinked, unsure why Fu Mingchuan was asking this. But he recalled the scene at the parking lot and said, “I think it’s a Cayenne.”

Fu Mingchuan’s lips tightened, and he said nothing more.

You Wen asked if he’d had dinner yet. Fu Mingchuan replied that he had been waiting to eat together. Hearing this, You Wen immediately offered to order some takeout.

Fu Mingchuan casually listed two dishes. After placing the order, You Wen went to take a shower. Halfway through, the bathroom door swung open. Without trying to hide, he asked through the steam if the food hadn’t arrived yet. Fu Mingchuan walked in, pinned him against the wall, and said, “I’m having you first.”

In the middle of things, the doorbell kept ringing. The sound made You Wen tense, making him even more sensitive. He pushed against Fu Mingchuan, who only seemed to get more enthusiastic. By the time they were done, the food had long gone cold.

Fu Mingchuan reheated the takeout in the microwave and made You Wen sit with him while he ate.

You Wen sat cross-legged on the carpet, flipping through five channels in under a minute but finding nothing he liked. “Zhongzhou Channel is airing Blazing Heroes,” Fu Mingchuan said. “A new episode’s out today.”

You Wen tilted his head to look at him, his pale skin seeming even lighter under the bright lights, his gaze making it impossible to look away. “You watch shows like that?”

Despite his words, he switched the channel to Zhongzhou.

“I don’t like it,” Fu Mingchuan replied.

You Wen didn’t ask why he was keeping up with it if he didn’t like it. He just focused on the TV. At some point, Fu Mingchuan said something, but You Wen didn’t respond. It was then that Fu Mingchuan realized he wasn’t really watching—he was sitting there quietly, lost in his own world.

That night, they left a nightlight on as usual, but unlike before, You Wen didn’t curl up next to Fu Mingchuan. Fu Mingchuan pulled him close, asking, “Did something upset you today?”

“Huh?” You Wen murmured. “No, nothing.”

He didn’t say more.

He wasn’t upset, but he felt that Fu Mingchuan might be. Because after a few random questions, Fu Mingchuan pressed him down again, demanding what he wanted. Even when You Wen resisted, Fu Mingchuan didn’t stop, so eventually, he just stopped resisting altogether.

In bed, Fu Mingchuan was always controlling—insisting on the positions he preferred and even how You Wen should sound. If he got too loud, Fu Mingchuan would scold him, telling him not to act shamelessly and warning that the building management would come knocking if he kept it up.

Before, You Wen didn’t mind, but now, when Fu Mingchuan used dirty talk, it felt uncomfortable. After realizing Fu Mingchuan didn’t love him, those words no longer felt playful. They felt like genuine insults, as though he really was nothing more than a plaything.

Afterwards, Fu Mingchuan carried him to the bathroom to clean up, noticing that You Wen was silently crying. His tears made Fu Mingchuan uneasy, and he gripped You Wen’s chin, asking why he was causing such a fuss now.

You Wen didn’t want to cry, but the tears kept falling on their own. Hearing Fu Mingchuan’s reproach, he forced the tears back, pushed his hand away, and said he wasn’t crying anymore before turning to take a shower.

As Fu Mingchuan cleaned him up, he had him cling onto him as usual. When he saw that You Wen was truly silent—not whining, not cursing—Fu Mingchuan softened a bit and said, “Go ahead, cry if you need to.”

You Wen didn’t respond, resting his cheek against Fu Mingchuan’s shoulder. After cleaning him up, Fu Mingchuan didn’t take him straight back to bed. Instead, he carried him around the room, gently pacing to soothe him, just like he used to. Only when he was sure You Wen was asleep did he carefully lay him down.

In the dim glow of the nightlight, Fu Mingchuan gently touched You Wen’s cheek. Then he went to the bathroom, found You Wen’s face cream, scooped some onto his fingertip, and returned to rub it onto his skin—otherwise, he’d wake up with dry skin and throw a fit in the morning.

When Chen Jiyu returned, she already knew that You Wen had moved out. Concerned, she came to check on where You Wen was living. Inside the house, she spotted Fu Mingchuan’s coat, confirming her suspicions. For a moment, she was unsure whether to address her son or You Wen.

In the end, Chen Jiyu simply held You Wen’s hand and asked, “Do you still want to be with Mingchuan?”

You Wen didn’t answer the question directly. Instead, he comforted her, saying, “We’re back together now, Auntie. Aren’t you happy?”

Seeing that You Wen was willing, Chen Jiyu breathed a sigh of relief and teased, “Why are you still calling me ‘Auntie’? You should call me ‘Mom.’”

As they left You Wen’s place, Chen Jiyu immediately called Fu Mingchuan to ask if it was true that he and You Wen were back together. Fu focused on the important part of her question: “Did You Wen say we’re back together?”

Chen Jiyu was puzzled. “Isn’t that so?”

Fu Mingchuan paused before confirming, “Yes.”

She then asked why he hadn’t let You Wen stay at home, scolding him for taking You Wen away. Fu Mingchuan patiently answered her, explaining that You Wen lived too far away and had to wake up an hour earlier each day. He promised that You Wen could come home to see her on weekends.

Only then did Chen Jiyu feel a bit more at ease. Fu Mingchuan had a place near the company; if they weren’t really back together, he wouldn’t have to go all the way to live in the house on Ganxi Road.

Moreover, it was better for her son to run back and forth than for You Wen to do so. You Wen was now so thin that he could be blown over by the wind; he couldn’t suffer any more.

She urged Fu Mingchuan to make sure to bring You Wen home on the weekend. However, You Wen had a lot to do at the kindergarten and had only returned to Linjiang Garden twice in a month, one of which was when he went back by himself.

That time, Chen Jiyu immediately called Fu Mingchuan to tell him to come home. The four of them rarely had a pleasant atmosphere together, sitting down for a meal. That night, Fu Mingchuan and You Wen stayed at Linjiang Garden.

Once in the bedroom, You Wen went to the closet to get Fu Mingchuan’s pajamas and handed them to him. As Fu Mingchuan glanced at him while changing, he asked, “Why didn’t you tell me you were coming back alone?”

You Wen wasn’t sure how to interpret his tone and replied casually that he missed Auntie, only to see Fu Mingchuan furrow his brows.

After a while, You Wen said, “I won’t come back by myself in the future.”

Fu Mingchuan nodded: “You can call me to come with you.”

Later that night, as they lay in bed, Fu Mingchuan saw You Wen watching some silly animal videos. You Wen had always enjoyed this kind of childish content. Fu Mingchuan watched for a moment before asking, “Are you into rabbits now?”

You Wen didn’t want to discuss the cute animals with him, knowing Fu Mingchuan didn’t care for them at all. He exited the video and switched to a trending news channel. “No, just browsing.”

Fu Mingchuan almost asked why You Wen didn’t launch into a long discussion about the adorable traits of the animals and how cute they were like before, but seeing that You Wen clearly had no intention of bringing it up, he said, “Do you want to see Tiao Tiao?”

Tiao Tiao was the name of the golden retriever they had when they were together. You Wen loved Tiao Tiao, and the first thing he’d do when he got home was hug Tiao Tiao and play with him. Even though he liked to sleep in, he would wake up early to take Tiao Tiao out to play.

You Wen felt a twinge of longing but thought he shouldn’t get too attached to someone else’s dog. After hesitating for a moment, he murmured, “No.”

Yet, despite his words, when he returned to Ganxi Road after work the next day, he opened the door to find Tiao Tiao waiting for him.

Excited, Tiao Tiao jumped on him. Unable to resist, You Wen reached down to pat his head, gently asking, “How are you, Tiao Tiao?”

Tiao Tiao barked back at him as if responding, and You Wen couldn’t help but laugh. They hugged for a while before You Wen noticed Chen An was also there.

Feeling a bit embarrassed, he said, “Sorry, Assistant Chen, I didn’t see you there.”

Chen An wore a smile that was almost reminiscent of the person who had been relentlessly questioned by You Wen before. “It’s fine. President Fu sent me to bring you the dog.”

You Wen responded with a couple of “oh” before asking a question that sounded strange to Chen An: “You’re not taking him away, are you?”

Chen An hesitated, sensing that You Wen didn’t want Tiao Tiao to leave. “President Fu didn’t say I should take the dog away.”

You Wen simply said, “Oh,” and noticing Chen An’s awkwardness, he invited him to stay for dinner, saying Auntie had already prepared a meal.

Chen An felt he couldn’t accept the invitation. When he used to work at Shanshui Residence, Fu Mingchuan had made it very clear that he didn’t want him to interact with You Wen unnecessarily.

“I’ve delivered the dog, so I’ll be on my way.”

As Chen An stepped out, he turned back and caught a glimpse of You Wen petting the dog through the door. You Wen had always adored this golden retriever; when Tiao Tiao was around, he would even pick him up and wave the dog’s paw to greet him.

Just now, it must have been an illusion—You Wen definitely wanted the dog to stay.
