I Woke up and Got Married Chapter 5

The housekeeper moved quickly. In about half an hour, the master bedroom was cleared out, and Chi Suinian’s few belongings were moved in.

The bedroom door was open, and Chi Suinian could see the freshly arranged room. True to his reputation as Jin City’s youngest tycoon, Lu Zhiyue’s master bedroom was twice the size of Chi Suinian’s old room. The bedding had already been changed, and through the floor-to-ceiling windows, there was a large terrace outside. The room had a great view, with a peaceful scene of the Far Mountain Lake’s waters in the distance.

Chi Suinian deliberately went to check the guest bedroom facing north.

Lu Zhiyue’s luggage had already been packed and moved in. He had many personal belongings, and the guest room couldn’t fit everything. Two housemaids were standing there holding ten or more expensive suits, unsure what to do as the wardrobe was already full.

Chi Suinian raised an eyebrow, amused. “If you regret this and don’t want to live together anymore, just tell me.”

“No need,” Lu Zhiyue leaned against the wall, speaking casually. “Ten years? I can endure that.”

Chi Suinian’s brow twitched. “Who said anything about ten years?”

Lu Zhiyue glanced at him. “You just did.”

【I said I’m hard to get along with, but if you can handle it, I don’t mind living together for three, five, or even ten years.】

“Didn’t you understand I was just provoking you?” Chi Suinian took a deep breath. “I wasn’t serious.”

Lu Zhiyue replied, “But I wasn’t casually listening. Do you want to go back on your word?”

Chi Suinian was so enraged he almost choked. Not wanting to watch the spectacle anymore, he wheeled himself into the master bedroom and slammed the door so hard it shook.

Lu Zhiyue was truly insane.

Standing there, Lu Zhiyue took the cold reception in stride. As expected, Young Master Chi had the infamous fiery temper everyone knew about; a small spark could ignite him into a rage.

Recalling how agitated he had looked earlier, a playful smile appeared on Lu Zhiyue’s lips.

“Sir,” the housemaid holding the suits walked over hesitantly, asking, “What should we do with these clothes?”

The hint of amusement in Lu Zhiyue’s expression vanished. “Put them in the study.”

There was still a long time ahead, plenty of time for Young Master Chi to keep stirring things up.

Chi Suinian wheeled himself around the empty master bedroom a couple of times. Oddly, he didn’t feel any sense of familiarity with the room. If he had indeed lived in it for a year, shouldn’t he have some memory of it?

He began to regret his actions.

He shouldn’t have been so quick to kick Lu Zhiyue out. At least he should have seen the room in its original state first.

After wallowing in regret for a while, Chi Suinian closed his eyes, tossed off the blanket on his legs, and wheeled himself toward the bathroom.

He had been lying in the hospital for months, and his skin reeked of disinfectant—so unpleasant he could hardly stand it anymore. If he didn’t take a bath soon, he’d start to smell.

Chi Suinian slowly stood up from the wheelchair. His leg muscles had atrophied, and walking on his own was difficult. He had to support himself by holding onto the wall as he painstakingly made his way into the bathroom.

It was a spacious bathroom with separate wet and dry areas, including a large bathtub. Chi Suinian stripped down and sank into the warm water, sighing contentedly with his eyes closed.

He’d only been soaking for two minutes when his phone rang. Without opening his eyes, Chi Suinian answered, “…Hello.”

His voice was lazy, carrying a faint, husky tone.

There was silence on the other end of the line. Then Tang Jin, after a moment of stunned disbelief, blurted out, “Holy crap, what are you doing?”

Chi Suinian’s voice was weak. “Taking a bath. What do you want?”

“Are you alone?” Tang Jin asked.

“…No, eight people are here,” Chi Suinian replied, irritated.

“Wow, impressive, Brother Nian.”

Chi Suinian’s patience was wearing thin. “If you have nothing important, I’m hanging up.”

“Wait, wait, I do have something important,” Tang Jin quickly spoke. “I just wanted to ask, have you recovered your memory yet?”

“No,” Chi Suinian replied.

Since waking up, Chi Suinian hadn’t even tried to regain his memory. He didn’t want to know that idiotic version of himself.

Tang Jin yelled into the phone, his voice loud enough to hurt Chi Suinian’s ears, “Are you still trying to hide it from me?”

Chi Suinian rubbed his ears and frowned. “What am I hiding from you?”

Tang Jin spoke rapidly, “I saw it with my own eyes! Lu Zhiyue personally picked you up earlier, and you two were getting all intimate in the parking lot. How desperate are you?”

Chi Suinian’s frown deepened. “What did you say?”

Intimacy in the parking lot? What kind of nonsense was that?

After everything that had happened since he woke up, Chi Suinian wasn’t even surprised anymore.

After all, nothing could be more absurd than waking up to find himself married to his sworn enemy.

Unaware of what kind of scenario he had imagined in his head, Tang Jin continued to yell into the phone, “No wonder you skipped the welcome party! You rushed home to get busy? Lu Zhiyue looks like someone who’s pretty intense—can your body handle it?”

“Intense, my ass!” Chi Suinian swore, his rationality overwhelmed by anger. Without thinking, he shouted, “Let me tell you, even if something happens between me and Lu Zhiyue, I’m the one who’s going to be on top!”

“Creak”

The bathroom door softly opened, and Lu Zhiyue stood there silently, staring at him.

“…”

“…Shit!” Chi Suinian jumped in shock and instinctively bristled. “Who told you to come in? Don’t you know to knock before entering someone else’s room?!”

Luxury villas usually had good soundproofing, right? Lu Zhiyue shouldn’t have heard what he just said, right?

“Who came in? Lu Zhiyue? Damn! I’m impressed! You guys are really something!” The phone wasn’t disconnected yet, and Tang Jin continued yelling in disbelief on the other end.

Chi Suinian quickly hung up the phone and unconsciously sank deeper into the bathwater.

Ever since Qin Suitian told him that Lu Zhiyue had been the one personally bathing and wiping him during his hospital stay, Chi Suinian had felt uncomfortable just thinking about it, even after half a month.

“I knocked, but you didn’t answer.” Lu Zhiyue lifted the set of blue pajamas in his hand. “I came to bring you clothes.”

He was holding a pair of light blue men’s pajamas.

Only then did Chi Suinian realize there were no towels or bathrobes in the bathroom.

He frowned and said, “You did that on purpose.”

He must have deliberately taken away the bath linens, waiting for the moment he stripped down to humiliate him.

“Did you forget?” Lu Zhiyue’s expression was somewhat helpless as he spoke slowly. “This bedroom was just cleared out. The living essentials haven’t been replenished yet.”

Chi Suinian: “…”

His anger had clouded his judgment.

Lu Zhiyue stepped into the bathroom, placed the pajamas down, and then turned to leave without looking back.

But just when Chi Suinian thought he was in the clear, Lu Zhiyue stopped again.

Chi Suinian raised his chin slightly, frowning in irritation. “Still not leaving?”

Lu Zhiyue turned around, his gaze sweeping over Chi Suinian’s exposed shoulders. Then, he said slowly, “Your body hasn’t fully recovered yet. It’s better not to think about those kinds of things.”

“…” Chi Suinian clicked his tongue in frustration. “Mind your own business.”

What kind of lousy house was this, with such poor soundproofing—flashy but useless.

After a moment of reflection, Lu Zhiyue added, “Once you’ve recovered, we can fulfill our marital duties.”

“In your dreams.” Chi Suinian couldn’t help but laugh in exasperation at Lu Zhiyue’s superior, magnanimous tone. “I’m so handsome that people lining up to date me could stretch from the west side of the city to the east. Who do you think you are, thinking you’re in the running?”

Chi Suinian knew full well that Lu Zhiyue couldn’t possibly like him. The only reason this ridiculous marriage persisted was probably for the sake of stabilizing the stock market and maintaining appearances.

They had already torn each other apart, so Chi Suinian deliberately used the harshest words he could think of to belittle Lu Zhiyue, wanting to crush his pride.

After saying all this, Chi Suinian thought Lu Zhiyue would be upset or storm off in anger, avoiding him for the next ten days or so.

But not only did Lu Zhiyue not leave, he actually asked seriously, “Who are they?”

Chi Suinian was confused. “What?”

Lu Zhiyue, with a completely serious expression, asked, “The people chasing after you.”

“None of your damn business.” Chi Suinian rolled his eyes.

He tried to get up, but when he saw Lu Zhiyue was still standing there, he sat back down. “Aren’t you leaving? I need to get dressed.”

Lu Zhiyue hesitated for a moment before lowering his eyes and walking out.

His demeanor was slightly dazed, as if the humiliation had hit him hard.

Chi Suinian snorted with amusement, feeling suddenly uplifted. Watching Lu Zhiyue in discomfort was more satisfying than buying ten luxury cars.

In high spirits, Chi Suinian leisurely finished his bath, got dressed, and crawled into bed.

He was exhausted today. Although he thought he wouldn’t be able to sleep in a new place, he fell into a deep sleep shortly after his head hit the pillow.

In the dead of night, someone else was still awake in the study.

The room was silent and orderly, without any lights on. Only the faint glow of the moon sliced through the darkness.

Lu Zhiyue stood by the window, gazing at the night scene for a while when his phone rang on the desk.

Qin Suitian’s voice on the other end was laced with implication. “Did you get it done?”

Lu Zhiyue replied, “Yes.”

“Are you sure you didn’t slip up?”

“No.”

“‘Not yet,’” Qin Suitian emphasized ominously. “You have to admit, some people are very sharp. Until you get what you want, keep your tail hidden. Don’t drag me into this.”

He paused before adding, “If he traces it back to me, I won’t hesitate to throw you under the bus.”

Lu Zhiyue understood his meaning and lowered his eyes. “I know. I’ll patch up all the holes.”

“This is the last time I’ll help you,” Qin Suitian said word by word. “I expect you to deliver on what I want soon.”

“Check your inbox tomorrow afternoon,” Lu Zhiyue said, then hung up the phone.

A sudden cold wind swept in through the balcony, causing the thin curtains to flutter. The sky seemed like it was about to rain, with dark clouds gradually swallowing the moonlight. Lu Zhiyue lit a cigarette, the crimson ember burning a small hole into the deep night.

He took a couple of puffs, the light in his eyes flickering faintly in the darkness. Then he stubbed out the cigarette and left the study.

Lu Zhiyue walked directly to the door of Chi Suinian’s room, paused for a moment, then opened it without hesitation.

The main bedroom lights were off, and only the night lamp by the bed was casting a gentle, persistent glow.

Lu Zhiyue entered silently, noticing the shoes tossed messily beside the bed. The young man he had painstakingly deceived was sprawled across the bed, wrapped in a blanket. His pants had ridden up, revealing a slender, pale calf.

Lu Zhiyue’s gaze lingered on that patch of fair skin for a moment before he tugged the edge of the blanket back over him.

The slight rustle of the blanket being pulled was quiet but distinct in the stillness of the night.

The person who should have been disturbed by the noise remained fast asleep, showing no signs of waking despite someone being so close.

Lu Zhiyue chuckled softly.

When awake, Young Master Chi was always bristling and sharp, treating everyone with a wary, irritable demeanor. But asleep, he was the complete opposite—innocent and unaware, like a kitten exposing its soft belly. It was almost too tender to witness.

Lu Zhiyue stood there for a while in the darkness before turning to leave.
