Side Story: Post-Marriage Daily Anecdotes
1. Little Animals
One day, a child in You Wen’s class pulled a tiny kitten out of their schoolbag, leaned in conspiratorially, and whispered that it was a gift for him—something special just for him.
Startled, You Wen immediately contacted the child’s parents. After some discussion, the parents asked him to look after the kitten for the day and promised to pick it up when they came to fetch their child in the evening.
Later, they sincerely asked if You Wen was interested in adopting a cat. He replied that he’d think about it.
The kitten was tiny and very clingy, staying in You Wen’s hands all day, seeming to adore him.
You Wen sent Fu Mingchuan a series of ten photos of the kitten. Fu Mingchuan, feigning ignorance, replied with a picture of the cityscape from his office.
Annoyed, You Wen sent him an angry emoji and stopped responding.
That evening, when they returned home, Fu Mingchuan intentionally didn’t bring it up. As expected, it didn’t take long for You Wen to excitedly show him videos he had taken of the kitten, going on and on about how adorable it was.
After listening to him chatter, Fu Mingchuan finally asked, “Do you want to keep it?”
You Wen suddenly went quiet. Fu Mingchuan teased, “So you don’t want it?”
Reluctantly, You Wen said, “It’s someone else’s cat.”
Fu Mingchuan nodded knowingly and teased in a regretful tone, “Well, I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.”
Hesitant, You Wen glanced at him twice before muttering, “They have six kittens. This is just one of them.”
Feigning indifference, Fu Mingchuan asked, “Oh, really?”
He barely finished before You Wen glared at him. Fu Mingchuan couldn’t help but smile. How could You Wen be so naive? Did he really think Fu Mingchuan didn’t know about the “I got a cat!” post You Wen hastily shared and then deleted from his social media?
When he saw Fu Mingchuan laughing, You Wen realized he was being teased. Pouting, he grumbled, “You’re so annoying.”
And he even added a whiny tone, like a spoiled child.
Fu Mingchuan stopped teasing and said, “When should we pick it up? We can bring Tiao Tiao along, and the kitten can keep Tiao Tiao company when we’re not home.”
You Wen gave a date, explaining that the kitten needed to stay with its mother a little longer.
That night, You Wen repeatedly watched the kitten videos, then worried that Tiao Tiao (their pet) wouldn’t like the kitten. He went to Tiao Tiao’s room and tried to watch the videos with him. In the end, he fell asleep before Tiao Tiao did, and it was Fu Mingchuan who carried him back to their bedroom.

The next morning, while walking his dog in the garden, You Wen noticed a tree frog living in the little house he had set up for the zebra finches. The finches had taken to perching on tree branches, seemingly multiplying into a whole flock. Meanwhile, peacocks strolled across the grass, and woodpeckers tapped at the trees. For the first time, You Wen wondered if he had gone too far.
After all, Fu Mingchuan wasn’t particularly fond of animals. The dog was for You Wen, the peacocks were for him, the zebra finches were for him, and now he wanted a cat too. For someone as fond of quiet as Fu Mingchuan, perhaps he had just been silently enduring it all.
Small animals were adorable, but Fu Mingchuan was more important.
That afternoon, after some careful thought, You Wen texted Fu Mingchuan:
“Hubby, if you don’t want to keep the cat, I can talk to the student’s parents. The kitten is cute, but you’re the most important.”
You Wen: “Love you.”
You Wen: “Love you the most.”
Fu Mingchuan didn’t reply right away, and You Wen got busy resolving a fight between two kids. By the time he checked his phone again, he saw Fu Mingchuan’s message:
“What nonsense are you thinking? The cat’s adorable. We’ll pick it up when the time comes.”
Fu Mingchuan: “I like cats.”
Fu Mingchuan: “But if possible, could you ask your bird not to peck at the window so early in the morning?”
Attached was a screenshot of an album named “Naonao’s Cat.”
Looking at the message, You Wen couldn’t help but laugh, imagining Fu Mingchuan’s helpless expression. He replied:
“Okay, I’ll try to reason with it.”
Ten minutes later, You Wen added:
“I adopted a tiger at the zoo. Want to go see it with me this weekend?”
Fu Mingchuan, seemingly busy, only replied with one word: “Sure.”
—
That weekend, You Wen arranged a visit and brought Fu Mingchuan to meet the tiger, Sprite. When they arrived, Sprite was sleeping on the far side of its enclosure, sprawled out in an utterly ungraceful position.
You Wen stared, transfixed, repeatedly exclaiming how cute it was.
Fu Mingchuan stood silently beside him. Sure enough, a moment later, You Wen turned to him and said, “Wouldn’t it be great if we could keep one?”
Fu Mingchuan glanced at him, saying nothing.
Awkwardly, You Wen backtracked, “Just kidding.”
Fu Mingchuan said, “You can adopt more if you like and visit on weekends.”
Instantly cheered, You Wen dragged Fu Mingchuan around the zoo, adopting every furry, four-legged, or winged creature he could find.
Later, Fu Mingchuan allocated a special fund to the zoo. It wasn’t out of pure goodwill—he just figured that if You Wen frequented the zoo, they might help him out if he ever found himself in trouble there.
2. Calling the Guardian
Lately, You Wen’s luck had been abysmal. When he went near a local high school to meet Zhou Hui, not only did Zhou Hui fail to show up, but he also got dragged into a fight between high school students. To make matters worse, someone managed to smash his phone while he was trying to make a call.
The police arrived faster than Zhou Hui, and despite his protests of innocence, You Wen was taken in along with everyone else involved.
At the station, he tried explaining again that he was just passing by, but the group of high school students insisted he was involved, claiming he had even thrown punches.
Having never been reprimanded for fighting, even as a student, and now getting tangled up in something like this as an adult, You Wen couldn’t decide whether to laugh or cry.
With no phone or identification on him, the police required everyone to call their guardians—You Wen included.
Dragging his feet, You Wen hesitated. He didn’t want Fu Mingchuan to know about something so embarrassing, so he called Chen Jiyu instead. Yet an hour later, it was still Fu Mingchuan who showed up.
Sitting behind the iron bars, You Wen tried to make himself as small as possible, pretending not to see Fu Mingchuan. The boy next to him nudged him with an elbow, “Hey, someone’s looking for you.”
Left with no choice, You Wen stood up and waited for Fu Mingchuan to come get him.
When Fu Mingchuan arrived, he hadn’t expected this kind of situation. He thought it would be just a simple conversation in an office, not finding You Wen actually locked up.
Even behind bars, You Wen carried himself with the air of a proud and rare cat, trying to act like he wasn’t even there.
When the police returned his shoelaces (which had been removed for safety reasons), he fiddled with them but didn’t put them back on. Muttering, he asked, “Why are you here?”
Then he added, “I didn’t even call you. Where’s Mom?” The long laces dangled from his hands. He’d noticed other people had even had their belts and hard keychains confiscated—it was quite strict.
Fu Mingchuan led him to a row of iron chairs in the lobby, took the shoes, and started lacing them for him. “Mom’s out of town. It was either me or Dad. Who would you prefer?”
Without thinking, You Wen replied, “You, of course.”
Fu’s father was far less emotionally expressive, and You Wen always felt immense pressure when dealing with him.
Fu Mingchuan glanced at the proud little cat in front of him and asked, “Why were you near the high school?”
After a moment of hesitation, You Wen finally said, “Zhou Hui asked me out for dinner.”
In those few seconds of hesitation, Fu Mingchuan seemed to realize something. “Why was he at the high school?”
You Wen fell silent.
Finishing the last shoelace hole, Fu Mingchuan looked up at him. “Answer me.”
Fumbling for an explanation, You Wen mumbled incoherently until Fu Mingchuan threatened, “Shall I call his brother and ask what he was planning?”
Panicked, You Wen blurted, “He likes high school boys, not me!”
Seeing Fu Mingchuan’s thoughtful expression, he scooted closer, insisting, “I didn’t like them when I was in high school, and I don’t like them now.”
“You know I only like you.”
Fu Mingchuan smirked, leaned down, and tied the laces into a neat T-shaped knot. Straightening up, he patted You Wen’s head. “Let’s go.”
As they left, You Wen kept glancing back nervously. “Are you sure it’s all settled? They won’t come after me again, right?”
With an arm around You Wen’s shoulder, Fu Mingchuan pulled him closer. “They checked the surveillance footage. You’re fine.”
On the way home, You Wen kept poking Fu Mingchuan with his finger. “Do you believe me or not?”
“I believe you,” Fu Mingchuan replied succinctly, glancing at You Wen’s student-like outfit. Teasing, he added, “But I do like it.”
Caught off guard, You Wen’s face turned red. Then he heard Fu Mingchuan say, “I wish I’d met you sooner.”
If they’d met in school, perhaps they could have experienced a proper, sweet romance. He wouldn’t have turned down such an enthusiastic puppy, nor would he have broken its heart.
Naively, You Wen replied, “It’s not too late now.”
It wasn’t late at all. They were already together, and the future looked bright.
—
Later, Fu Mingchuan accidentally discovered that You Wen had saved his contact under the name: “Guardian.”
3. Business Trip
Fu Mingchuan is going on a business trip and asks You Wen if he wants to go with him. You Wen says there are a lot of school matters and his students will soon start primary school, so he declines Fu Mingchuan’s invitation.
When Fu Mingchuan left in the morning, he didn’t have the heart to wake up You Wen. But shortly after he left, You Wen sent him a message: Will you really be back next Monday?
Fu Mingchuan called You Wen in the car and coaxed him to sleep a little longer. Perhaps the difference between his appearance outside and inside the car was too great, as the driver didn’t dare to look at him when they got off, as if he could pretend not to have glimpsed his privacy that way.
Fu Mingchuan didn’t pay much attention to this, but he told Chen Jiyu to pick You Wen up in the evening, otherwise You Wen would have to stay at Shanshui Residence alone, which he worried about.
You Wen cooperated and went back to Linjiang Garden with Chen Jiyu, and even sent a video to Fu Mingchuan to watch.
When he was at Linjiang Garden, he stayed in Fu Mingchuan’s room. Fu Mingchuan’s room was just like him, very steady and a bit dull. But You Wen always managed to find things of interest among the boring decorations, like a few books on the bedside table.
There were several books on zoology, and You Wen also owned one of them.
There was also an academic journal, the issue in which You Wen had three papers published.
Two days later, You Wen discovered something amazing at Linjiang Garden—there was actually a cat house!
You Wen went to ask Chen Jiyu why there was a cat house in her home at Linjiang Garden. Chen Jiyu was a little surprised. “Don’t you have a cat?”
You Wen was stunned. He couldn’t return to Linjiang Garden for most of the year, and yet Fu Mingchuan had prepared a cat house for him here.
For some reason, he missed Fu Mingchuan a lot, as well as the cat and dog at home. He said goodbye to Chen Jiyu and returned to Shanshui Residence, but he didn’t tell Fu Mingchuan.
When he went to sleep at night, he wore Fu Mingchuan’s clothes. The light was on brightly, and the little cat walked on the bed, sometimes stepping on him. You Wen didn’t mind and didn’t wake up.
The strange feeling began when something touching him didn’t feel like a cat. It moved up against his waist, and You Wen was startled awake. Someone held his shoulder, and then he saw Fu Mingchuan’s eyes. Fu Mingchuan comforted him, “It’s me, don’t be afraid.”
You Wen looked at him for a moment and was then teased by Fu Mingchuan, who rubbed his face and asked, “Scared? Why didn’t you cover yourself with a blanket when you slept?” Earlier, he just wanted to feel if You Wen felt cold, but he didn’t expect You Wen to be so easily startled.
You Wen continued to look at him, tilting his head into his embrace. “I thought I was dreaming.”
Fu Mingchuan hugged him. “I finished what I needed to do and came back early.”
Not sure who initiated it, but Fu Mingchuan’s actions in pressing You Wen onto the bed were quite aggressive. He tried for a long time but couldn’t make You Wen reach climax. He asked You Wen with a smile, “Did you want to do it tonight?”
You Wen’s face blushed slightly, and when Fu Mingchuan’s hand touched his face, he bit it playfully, like a little dog pretending to be fierce.
Fu Mingchuan changed his position and made You Wen face away from him, biting his ear. “Naughty, how did you do it? Let me see.”
You Wen stubbornly refused to speak, which made Fu Mingchuan even more aggressive. Finally, he heard You Wen’s uncontrollable voice, and only then did You Wen say, “It turns out you used my under…pants.” The underwear was so obviously left on top of the dirty laundry basket.
The next moment, You Wen reached the climax, trembling in Fu Mingchuan’s embrace, scolding Fu Mingchuan as annoying. But in return, he received a more intense assault from Fu Mingchuan.
