HD Chapter 27 Becoming Total Strangers

“Justin?” Flora’s voice cracked with desperation. “Don’t you recognize me anymore?”

Tears welled up in her eyes uncontrollably as she prayed in her heart, “No, please no, that would be too cruel.”

Justin turned to face her, raindrops cold as ice fell between them. Flora’s heart, however, grow colder with every inch closer to him?

“Let’s go,” Justin said, his only word, and it wasn’t directed at Flora.

“Yes, sir!”

Just like the last time at the restaurant, he didn’t spare Flora another glance. But this time, she was sure he was Justin. She just couldn’t believe he was so cold.

“Justin!” Flora shouted, wondering if Justin had really move along from their past. She had once loved him deeply, remembering every expression and gesture of his too deeply for her to start over.

Now, the rain grew heavier, completely exposing the messy Flora to everyone present.

“Miss, you should leave,” the two men blocking her path said coldly.

“Look, isn’t that Flora?” said Lilian, who had just left the hall, as she took shelter from the rain at the entrance. Dylan followed her gaze and indeed saw Flora standing by the cars, caught up in something.

“Don’t you remember me, Justin?”

“Miss, please don’t make this hard for us.” The security bodyguard had no choice but to pull Flora’s hand away and push her back.

The force was strong, causing Flora to fall on the steps. Her old injuries were aggravated, but none of that compared to the heartache she felt at that moment. The car door slammed shut, and she and Justin were once again separated in two different worlds.

Flora finally gave struggling. She sat on the ground, staring at the car through the thick glass.

The love they once had was gone. He once again left her abandoned in a world without him.

Inside the car, Justin rubbed his brow and said, “Drive.”

Lilian smirked at Dylan, only to find his face pale with rage, his dark eyes burning with anger, flickering with dangerous intent.

In the next instant, he rushed out into the rain, and Lilian hurriedly grabbed his wrist.

But Dylan shook her off without hesitation, dashing into the rain. The splashing water ruined his pants, but at this moment, Dylan couldn’t care less.

Flora sat in the rain, completely dazed, her shoulders shaking from sobbing.

Flora’s collar was yanked suddenly, sending a sharp pain through her shoulders. As she struggled to stand, her eyes focused on the person who had grabbed her. “Let go of me!” she demanded.

Dylan roared, “It’s one thing to debase yourself, but don’t you dare cry for other men right in front of me, Flora. Do you think I’m dead? Are you trying to humiliate me?”

Flora shot back, “You think you control everything, even who I cry for? Dylan, who do you think you are? You’re my nightmare. If it weren’t for you, my life wouldn’t be such a mess, so degrading! F*ck you!”

“Ha!” Dylan sneered, a sinister smile creeping onto his face. “Finally, I hear your curses. You’ve been hiding all this resentment inside, haven’t you? The deeper you hate, the happier I am. You brought today’s humiliation upon yourself!”

To Dylan, Flora’s persistence in pursuing a man who clearly had no feelings for her was the epitome of self-disrespect.

“Dylan, the rain is pouring. Let’s go,” Lilian’s gentle voice brought Dylan back to his senses.

Flora, her eyes weary but resolute, said, “No matter how low my life is, it’s still mine. As long as you keep your nose out of it, I’ll be just fine.”

“Fine!” Dylan clenched his hand and abruptly shoved Flora to the ground, harder than before.

Flora’s back hit the hard steps, her fair skin scraping against the rough surface. Through gritted teeth, Dylan spat, “I’ll be watching, just to see if he can give you the life you want. Let’s see if he can!”

With that, Dylan stormed off toward the parking lot, not even glancing back. Lilian didn’t dare to intervene, hurrying after him.

Flora struggled to get up, but passersby just glanced at her dispassionately before scurrying away to escape the rain.

As she reached for her scattered bag and tried to get up again, a strong hand grasped her shoulder, helping her to her feet.

“Josh?” It seemed he always appeared when she needed help the most.

“What happened to you?” Josh held an umbrella over Flora’s head and urged her, “Get in the car.”

“I saw him,” she clung to Josh’s sleeve, unwilling to let go. “It was Justin. It was him… But why didn’t he recognize me?”

“Get in the car first,” Josh said, half supporting, half carrying Flora into the vehicle. “I just found out about Justin’s return too. Calm down and listen to me…”

Josh handed Flora a large towel from the back seat, helping her wipe the dirty water from her face. Then he said, “It’s been a year since I last saw Justin. You were there when they wheeled him out of the emergency room, Flora. Don’t you think something’s strange about all this?”

Flora hesitated for a moment before answering, “The doctor had said he didn’t have much time and asked me to inform his family as soon as possible. Later, the doctor told me clearly that Justin was dead. When he was wheeled out of the operating room, his head was covered with a white cloth. I didn’t believe it, so I lifted it, and… it was him. By the time his family arrived, they took his body away from the hospital. To this day, they haven’t made the news public, but I know he’s gone…”

Josh inquired further, “If that’s the case, then who is this Justin?”

Flora’s thoughts were tangled, and she struggled to articulate them clearly, “Maybe… maybe he didn’t actually die back then. But, if that’s true, why didn’t he come to find me? A year is more than enough time for him to let me know he’s still alive.”

Josh gripped the steering wheel with a serious expression, “I’ll take you home first. We’ll figure out ways to find if he’s Justin later on.”

“Josh.” A sudden idea crossed Flora’s mind.

“What’s up?”

“Could it be that Justin wasn’t their only child?”

“No way,” Josh immediately dismissed the idea. “I grew up with him, and I’m well aware of his family situation. Justin was their only son. Besides, my uncle Jack, their father, leads a disciplined private life. Your guess is impossible.”

Flora leaned back in her seat, her eyes reflecting a mix of emotions.

Relieved yet heartbroken, she said, “That’s good, then. All the hardships combined are nothing compared to the fact that he’s still alive. As long as he’s alive, everything will be fine.”
