The Bewildering Encounter with Mo Ming

Chapter 27: The Bewildering Encounter with Mo Ming

As ordinary individuals like us, we are easily swayed. For instance, when everyone insists that two people are a couple, even if there was no romantic involvement initially, their constant comments eventually turn them into a pair. I experienced this quite a few times during high school.

And now, today, Mo Ming and I were also the subject of such talk…

Everyone claimed that Mo Ming was genuinely interested in me, so… I chose to believe that he was indeed serious.

Don’t misunderstand, his seriousness toward me wasn’t a romantic pursuit; instead, he wanted me to be his master or… something along those lines. Perhaps I was meant to be his disciple. Moreover, I noticed that everyone was eager for his power.

I gazed at Mo Ming for a prolonged period, long enough to make everyone nervous and hesitant to even breathe. Finally, I uttered, “Alright.”

“Yay~~~~~~”

‘Mao Mao’ was the first to cheer, and just as Mo Ming was about to speak, I interjected, “But I have a condition! You must not interfere with my life. Can you agree to that?”

Mo Ming pursed his lips, and his emerald eyes fixed on me with sincerity. “I’ll do my best, but I won’t let you out of my sight.”

A peculiar sensation stirred within me. Why did his words, spoken like a romantic novel’s male protagonist, sound more like surveillance?

I cast a disdainful glance at him. “Do as you wish, but it’s better if you appear less frequently before me.”

“Absolutely…”

“Is that even possible?!” I stole Mo Ming’s lines, leaving him momentarily speechless. It seemed I had taken away his signature phrase.

Upon witnessing this, ‘Mao Mao’ immediately grabbed hold of Mo Ming and whispered audibly to me, “Brother, that’s enough. Pursuing a girl should be done step by step.”

“I wasn’t pursuing her,” Mo Ming earnestly stated, and ‘Mao Mao’ nodded helplessly. It was evident she had given up on attempting to cure her excessively straightforward brother. “Yes… yes… I was merely giving an example. Let Sister Lan have some peace. She’s had enough to deal with today.”

Mo Ming looked at me and nodded. “Alright, I’ll wait outside.” With those words, he turned and walked out of the room, astonishingly sitting cross-legged in the same spot!

I glanced at him, feeling relieved, while Qing Ming and Si Yino exchanged meaningful looks. Together, we departed, with Si Yino even positioning himself behind Xiaobai, ensuring the maximum distance between her and Mo Ming, as if he still harbored a considerable fear of his formidable power.

I stared blankly at Mo Ming, who was sitting at the door, and glanced at ‘Mao Mao’ with a rigid expression. “He wouldn’t…”

“It’s a tradition in our wolf clan,” ‘Mao Mao’ explained on behalf of Mo Ming. “During the initial stage of acknowledging a master, it’s necessary to familiarize oneself with everything about the master. I’m so glad that Sister Lan has become my brother’s master. We’re a family now~~~” ‘Mao Mao’ hugged me excitedly, and my whole body stiffened. I ended up becoming her sister-in-law, and we were now considered a family?

Has anyone ever witnessed their own family standing idly by while disaster struck?

A family?

Yeah, right.

Superficially, it seemed like I was benefiting and playing coy, having acquired the strongest werewolf as my companion. But the condition was that I had to like it!

I really disliked how he consistently rejected me, how he always acted according to his own rules, and how he treated me like a mindless loyal dog.

Mo Ming actually moved into our small house! And he even sat at my doorstep!

I opened the door slightly to take a look, and there he was.

He lifted his face to look at me. “If you find it inconvenient, I can sit by your bed.”

What kind of twisted logic was that?

Does sitting by my bed become convenient just because sitting at my doorstep is inconvenient?

I pressed against the door crack and asked him, “And what would you do if you sat by my bed?”

“Of course, I’d watch over you,” he said with an unusually serious gaze in his emerald eyes. The romantic and cheesy words coming from his mouth gave me a creepy feeling!

I would sleep, the lights would go out, and then he would sit by my bed like that, watching me all night with those eerie green eyes…

Orz, just thinking about it is terrifying, okay!

I glanced at the room opposite where ‘Mao Mao’ stayed. “Actually… you can stay in the room opposite mine.”

He paused and looked at ‘Mao Mao’s’ room, contemplating for a moment. “That’s a good idea.”

“Great! It’s settled then!” Before he could say anything, I closed the door directly. Phew, it’s inconvenient with him sitting outside. It’s like having a huge threshold.

However, Mo Ming ended up moving into Mao Mao’s room, and Mao Mao was kicked out. She had to find another room, which left her annoyed for several days.

The other boys began giving Mo Ming strange looks because he became the only boy living in the girls’ area. Everyone strongly demanded that once Mo Ming became familiar with me, he had to move back to the boys’ area!

The news of Mo Ming living in our “useless” house quickly became a sensation in the academy. After I learned how to use the academy’s divine machine and found the campus network, Mo Ming moving into the “useless” house made headlines for a few days. People came to our house every day to watch, forcing us to close the doors and windows and keep a low profile.

But soon, just like many internet celebrities and online news, the news of my destruction and Mo Ming moving into the “useless” house gradually faded from the public eye due to our indifference. I became like a shooting star that crossed the sky, no longer attracting attention. This greatly relieved me because not everyone enjoys being in the spotlight. Our “useless” house finally returned to its peaceful days.

The so-called peaceful days were… just like before, being in a state of transparency.

“Xia Xiaolan, eating instant noodles every day is not good for your health,” that’s what Mo Ming said to me most frequently these days. He would ramble like a nutrition expert in my ear all day long.

While slurping my noodles, I retorted, “It’s all thanks to you, isn’t it? With a mighty wolf god like you living in our ‘useless’ house, who knows how many days we were surrounded by people. It’s only been a little quieter these past two days. I should have charged an entrance fee.”

“I’m doing it for the sake of your health. If your body is healthy, you can cultivate better,” he said earnestly.

I placed one hand on my waist and looked at him, “Why are we always talking about different things?”

His emerald eyes became even more serious, “You must become stronger!”

I smiled mischievously, “If I’m not strong, will you stop being with me?”

“That’s absolutely impossible!” He emphasized his tone. Mao Mao walked in from behind him and opened the fridge, saying, “Xiao Lan, give up. We werewolves are loyal to our masters. Even if you die, we won’t acknowledge a second master.”

“…” My face instantly darkened, but Mao Mao couldn’t sway me.

Mo Ming covered my instant noodles with the lid, wearing a very serious and resolute expression, “School starts tomorrow. You need to eat well.”

A thought flashed through my mind, and I immediately smiled, “Yeah, school starts tomorrow. I’m a freshman, and you’re an upperclassman. How can you be with me?”

His jade-green eyes went blank, and he was momentarily stunned.

I continued to smirk and said, “Moreover, wasn’t the school encouraging you guys to date? Mao Mao, isn’t it strange that your brother, who has a girlfriend, is so close to another girl and no one is jealous?” I looked mischievously at Mao Mao.

Mao Mao took out a cola, closed the fridge, and smiled mischievously at me. “Shouldn’t you ask my brother about that?” Mao Mao looked mischievously at Mo Ming.

Suddenly, I saw a faint blush on Mo Ming’s face. His emerald green eyes glanced elsewhere, and he appeared serious. “There’s danger!” he said and then disappeared into the kitchen.

“Danger?” I became nervous too, but Mao Mao chuckled mischievously, “Where’s the danger? It’s just my brother feeling embarrassed. When he’s embarrassed, he likes to play disappearing acts!”

Hmm! It seemed like I had stumbled upon an incredible method!

I also recalled the day when Mo Ming quickly disappeared after giving me a bun, but he appeared just in time to save me when I was attacked by a chicken. It indicated that he was always nearby.

Oh~~~~ It looked like I had found a way to make him invisible~~~

Finally, the day of school arrived. These past few days had been unbearable and filled with anxiety, especially being stared at by a pair of emerald green eyes every day. Even the twins, Si Yi and Si Yining, gradually felt the pressure brought by Mo Ming’s presence. They didn’t leave their room and turned into homebodies, spending their days with their pet dog.

Qing Ming also rarely came out, calmly wandering around the house alone.

On the other hand, Mao Mao seemed even more cheerful and lively than when I first arrived. Seeing her so happy, I felt that it was worth it.

I didn’t know about other freshmen, but I was definitely excited. I couldn’t sleep the whole night out of excitement, and the next morning, I woke up early as if I had been injected with energy. I changed into my school uniform and stood in front of the mirror. The mirror spoke again, “You look beautiful today.”

Taking a deep breath in front of the mirror, I said, “Dad! I’m finally going to college! I will do my best!”

“Go for it!”

Encouraged by the mirror, I stepped out of the room.

The moment I stepped out of the room, I saw Mo Ming’s serious and earnest face. It felt like we saw each other every day. He was also wearing the school uniform today, and wow, boys looked so handsome in it!

The uniform had the same color as the girls’, but the hem was slanted, giving it a particularly stylish look. It turned out that Chinese-style clothing for men could be so handsome. The slanted hem emphasized their slim waist and long legs, making boys look like martial arts heroes with a touch of ethereal charm.

“I liked this outfit,” I couldn’t help but say.

Mo Ming stiffened, “Is that so? Well, then I’ll go first.”

Hmm! I snapped out of it! Making Mo Ming shy actually worked!

Just as I was secretly delighted, he suddenly reached out and took out a miniature version of himself, a Q-version pendant of Mo Ming. It had the shape of a QQ steamed bun face, silver-gray hair, and fluffy wolf ears with the same small earring as him. Even the clothes were the same! His big emerald green eyes almost occupied half of the steamed bun face.

“This is my doppelgänger,” he said.

I instantly melted, “So adorable!” I almost took his doppelgänger with both hands.

“Really? Then, then I’ll really go!” he disappeared with a “poof” right in front of me. Before I could react, he was gone.

“Huh? Where did he go? Oh well, I don’t need the real him, I’ll keep this doppelgänger!” I happily hung the cute little pendant on my phone. I tapped it lightly, and the charm swung beneath my phone. It was so adorable!

I checked the time; it was almost time, and I still needed to have breakfast!

University!

Here I come!
