TSTFTR Chapter 06

He hesitated to show the books he had written to Xuan Yun. He was now starting anew and clean, but if Xuan Yun found out about his past as a ‘plagiarist’… Yu Qiu didn’t want to think about it anymore.

An idea suddenly struck Yu Qiu, “I have a copy of something I wrote that no one has seen yet. Do you want to read it?”

Xuan Yun smiled in response, seeming to be in a good mood.

Yu Qiu asked what Xuan Yun did for a living, and Xuan Yun rubbed his nose and said, “I’m just a singer.”

Now it was Yu Qiu’s turn to be surprised, and he said, “A singer? That’s impressive.”

“Not really,” Xuan Yun waved his hand, “There are so many singers nowadays, countless of them. I’m not that good at singing, and not many people know me. I feel content as long as I can sing.”

“Do your family support you in pursuing a singing career?” Yu Qiu asked, “You look quite young.”

“They do,” Xuan Yun said, “I told them after finishing college that I want to earn money on my own. They can just watch, and they don’t have to help me if I fall. I take responsibility for everything I do. I’m an adult now.”

Listening to Xuan Yun’s words, Yu Qiu suddenly felt that, despite being only twenty-two, he lacked the same youthful vigor that Xuan Yun had.

“How old are you? Twenty-two?” Yu Qiu guessed.

Xuan Yun replied, “Twenty.”

“…”

“I skipped a grade in elementary school, and considering that I started school early, I graduated as the youngest in my class,” Xuan Yun said, looking a bit proud, “They are all twenty-two, and I’m twenty.”

“In that case, I’m your big brother,” Yu Qiu joked, “I’m twenty-two.”

“Did you just graduate from college?” Xuan Yun said with a timely address, “Gege.”

“…”

The light in Yu Qiu’s eyes suddenly dimmed.

The fact that he hadn’t attended college, even until now, Yu Qiu didn’t know whether it was the right decision or not. In those four years, he had read an entire bookshelf of books and completed five novels, but looking back now, it seemed like he hadn’t achieved anything.

Xuan Yun noticed that something was off with Yu Qiu’s expression and realized he might have said something wrong. “Did I say something wrong? Qiu-ge, don’t be upset.”

“No,” Yu Qiu accepted the “Qiu-ge” address with a candid smile, “It’s just that I didn’t go to college.”

“…”

Xuan Yun said, “To be honest, I don’t think going to college is that important. You can be just as content without going.”

Yu Qiu smiled as he looked at Xuan Yun. The two of them continued walking, and Xuan Yun hummed softly. They didn’t deliberately search for topics to discuss, they spoke when there was something to say and remained silent when there was nothing. This feeling was very comfortable.

They went to the nearby riverside, circled around, and talked about various things. Yu Qiu had initially thought that after such a long time without seriously making friends, he might have lost some of his social skills. However, now it seemed that it wasn’t so bad.

Later on, he realized that his social skills might not have been that great to begin with; perhaps it was because of the other person.

As they approached the entrance of the residential area, Xuan Yun suddenly stopped in his tracks. Yu Qiu asked, “What’s wrong?”

After hesitating for a moment, Xuan Yun clenched his lips and, as if gathering courage, asked in a low voice, “I want to ask… Why haven’t you been playing the piano recently?”

“…” Yu Qiu chuckled, “You know it was me playing the piano?”

“I guessed,” Xuan Yun said, “Every time I’m in my bedroom, I can hear the sound of the piano from above, between 7:30 to 9:00 every day. I’m not very sure about the resident above, but somehow, I thought… it might be you.”

Yu Qiu looked at him and suddenly couldn’t hold back his laughter, “It’s me.”

Xuan Yun stared at him.

Yu Qiu’s looks were not exceptionally outstanding, but he was pleasant and easy on the eyes. He had delicate features that made him appear youthful. When he smiled, his eyes would form crescents, and his lips were rosy and teeth white.

Yu Qiu touched his own face, “Is there something on my face?”

“You haven’t answered me yet,” Xuan Yun suddenly draped his arm over Yu Qiu’s shoulder, lazily resting his hand there. As they walked, his hand lightly brushed against Yu Qiu’s collarbone, and Yu Qiu looked up at him.

“It’s actually nothing special,” Yu Qiu’s hands were in his pockets, “The piano’s sound was too loud, and it would disturb others, so I got some complaints.”

Having experienced large-scale online attacks before, Yu Qiu didn’t feel much pain from the woman’s accusations a few nights ago. Compared to those insults and attacks, her criticism was negligible.

“Who was it!” Xuan Yun’s reaction was unexpectedly strong, and he almost stomped his feet, “Damn, ‘noisy’ should be a term exclusive to ‘noise.’ How can piano music be called noisy? It’s supposed to be a pleasant echo! So annoying

Yu Qiu amused him, “Exactly, exactly.”

“I’ll come over to your place later,” Xuan Yun said, “Is that okay?”

Yu Qiu was a little stunned, “Why?”

Xuan Yun looked into his eyes, serious and solemn, “I want to listen to you play the piano in person.”
