ASDP Chapter 9

Conflict of Interests

“Calm down. It’s good to make a hypothesis, but don’t judge just by looking at one case, you idiot.”
When I talked about my thoughts like a declaration of victory with a smug face, my grandfather admonished me with an astonished look on his face.
My uplifting feeling was also squeezing by the voice that admonished me that I was getting too carried away.
“I don’t think it’s good to judge with just one case, but it’s important to make a hypothesis and study it, isn’t it?”
“If you do the research to make your hypothesis correct, mistakes will occur. Please look at other cases from the perspective that they may be different from this hypothesis. If there is a contradiction, make sure to keep it on the record. If you run only with your own assumptions, the wrong answer will also look like the right answer.”
“Yeeessss”
It’s not whether it’s right or not, but if you look at the case so that it will be right, you will overlook the contradiction. I nodded that I understood the words that I was always told.
There is nothing more scary than making assumptions just to get results. If you intentionally omit results that are different from the hypothesis, whether it is just a misunderstanding or a mistake, you will arrive at the wrong correct answer.

“For the time being, I’ll look at the flow of the magic of this blonde brother and keep a record, so go home for today.”
“Eh. I-”
“I thought I told you I had no intention of turning my granddaughter into a pervert?”
I want you to stop crumpling the rolled paper bundles like a threat.
It can’t be helped, let’s do as my grandfather says here.

“Then, when you get home, talk to my son about your thoughts, including what happened today. Don’t make it troublesome.”
“Eh? Is it okay?”
Why do I bother to say such a thing?
It’s probably because my question was firmly on my face. My grandfather sighed.
“I’ll take you to the front door.”
Usually I’d just say goodbye here, but when I was told that he would take me to the front door, my mind was filled with confusion. However, I thought it would be strange to refuse, so I left the hospital room and went outside.

“Are you going home?”
“Yes. I’m sorry to bother you.”
“Sometimes, please visit with us.”
“When you are sick or injured.”
When I went outside while replying to the old people who were still talking in the waiting room, my grandfather sighed deeply.

“I know that Amelia is good, but I don’t know if the two people who were carried in today are good or not. So be careful with what you say.”
He sounded tired and I shrugged. I’m aware that I was a little too out of control.
“I know. Sorry for today. Trying to look at a man’s body like a pervert. I just couldn’t help it.”
“That’s not it.”
I thought that was the case because I was constantly being slapped on the head and given educational guidance in the room, but my grandfather shook his head and denied it. And he looks straight at me with the same blue eyes as my father.

“They are a knight and a priest who serve the saints. And what Amelia is trying to start is a way to purify the maga in a way that is not the power of the saint. In other words, there is a conflict of interests.”
“Eh? But the research has not progressed at all yet, or rather, I just started today, and now the saints have not caught up with the purification of the maga, right? Wouldn’t it also help the saints?”
I don’t know if there will be results, and in fact, the lack of saints is a problem. Even if the interests are in conflict, it does not mean that the power of the saint will be lost. I thought he was worrying too much, but my grandfather was unusually serious.

“Certainly, there may be merit for the saints. But it is the temple that benefits from the saints the most. In other words, it is not the saints who are opposed, but the temple. It’s quite dangerous to confront those not just in this country, but all over the world.”
“But if the purification hasn’t caught up, won’t there be damage in the royal capital eventually? And yet, it’s strange that they don’t devise countermeasures just because it’s against their interests.”
The beginning of what I’m trying to do is the saint’s decline plan, so I’m sure they won’t like it. But at this point, I don’t think they will decline, and I think it’s rather beneficial.
“Ah. That’s right. It’s strange, but the activities of the saints are moved by a huge amount of money and are closely related to politics. What they want is not a way to purify even if they are not a saint, but a way for a saint to purify more maga. If you do research on that, you will probably be welcomed.”
“…I don’t want to.”
That’s not a saint decline plan.
It’s just to make the value of the saints higher. But what will happen if you raise the value of the saints any more? They will worship a very small number of saints like gods, ignore the feelings of the saints and compete for them.
There is no way the person who obtains it will be the winner, and in the end, only the place that the person who obtained it wants to purify will receive preferential treatment, and the rest will not be able to receive the blessings of the saints and will continue to be plagued by maga.

“Well, I guessed that you would say that. For the time being, you won’t be able to make such a mess if you study only in the countryside and don’t make presentations in the royal capital. So try as much as you can. However, please consult with my son who has connections to the royal palace and the temple.”
“Can I do that?”
He’s been denying it, so I thought he was somehow trying to stop it, but my grandfather gave me permission. When I looked at my grandfather’s face in surprise, he showed a bitter smile.
“Amelia is not the kind of girl who listens to others. I also haven’t announced at the medical association of the royal capital that the progress of demonization can be stopped with mushrooms. It’s just a folk remedy in the countryside. If you do that, they won’t say anything.”
I think the story of stopping the progress of demonization by mushrooms is originally a great discovery of the century. But as Theo didn’t know, my grandfather didn’t spread this.
The temple undertakes all the treatment of demonization in the royal capital. In other words, from what he said earlier, it’s probably because of the conflict of interests. What can be done outside the temple is not convenient for them.

“In the first place, we don’t have enough money to build a temple or enough saints for them to send one here. They don’t say anything about the countryside dealing with monsters and maga in the countryside. Rather, if the rural villages are annihilated, what will happen from there will be food difficulties. It’s inconvenient for them too.”
Occasionally, I hear about the destruction of villages.
For me, it could be my life next, but from the perspective of the royal capital protected by the saints, they’re more afraid of food shortages… Certainly, the fields in the royal capital will not be able to meet the needs of the people there.

“That’s why they close their eyes to anything you do in the countryside. However, even if it is confirmed that the purification of the maga can be done even if it is not by a saint, you can’t announce it in Amelia’s name, right? Even if it’s tremendously valuable research results and the whole world wants it.”
“That’s good. Because I’m not interested in honor. But can I spread the word?”
I don’t want to be a second saint.
So I don’t care if I can’t present my research. If I take over the work of my father or grandfather, I can live with it. I don’t hate this country life.
“There is danger, but if they don’t know the source and it becomes known in the countryside, the temple can’t silence everything. There is no honor or achievement, but is there anything Amelia wants beyond that?”
My grandfather is asking me if I need to do it even though it doesn’t benefit me because it’s dangerous. In other words, it’s a matter of determination.

“What I want is the decline of the saints. I want to lower it to the same value as me, not special. It doesn’t have to be done right away, so I want to make it to the extent that it is said to be a useful special skill when purifying maga.”
“Then study it, and when the results come out, secretly tell it to other villages. If you continue to do that, it will naturally enter the ears of the royal capital, and eventually it will be in the state that Amelia envisions. I don’t keep my mouth shut about the mushrooms I use for treatment here.”
Once everyone knows, no matter how much power they have, I don’t think there’s anything they can do. Maybe they will try to spread disinformation, but the more people who have been saved, the more the disinformation will be a joke.
As it is now, it will be impossible to purify the maga without a saint. At that time, if there is a rumor about a way to purify even if you are not a saint, the people who have been waiting for it should jump at the rumor. As long as they won’t die or become a monster.

“My grandfather is doing the same thing.”
“I’m not trying to lower the value of the saint, am I?”
My grandfather grinned.
My grandfather knows why I came back to this village, so he probably noticed that the beginning started with a personal grudge. But he won’t say anything, so I won’t say anything either.
Even if it started with a personal grudge, it doesn’t mean that I’m doing something wrong.
“Anyway, those two are not from this village, but also from the temple. I will treat them as a doctor, but I will have them leave the village as soon as they get better. Get only the information you want and don’t get too close to them.”
“I’m not getting close, am I? It’s natural to rescue people when the red signal is raised.”
No one would know for sure if the person they helped was a priest and a knight protecting a saint. And no matter who it is, we have to help.
My grandfather affirmed, “Well, that’s right,” but he said it as if he didn’t believe my words. He just showed me his naked body as a thank you for helping me, and I don’t think we’ll get any closer, but my grandfather doesn’t seem to think so.

Even though I didn’t understand, there was no point in trying to pick a fight, so I quickly headed to my house.

It seems her research is more dangerous than she thought. I hope it goes well.

I hope you enjoyed this chapter and thank you for reading!
