VFMESR Chapter 19

In the dimly lit room, a faint scent of mint filled the air. Chu Wenyu noticed that Jiang Ling was sound asleep on the bed, looking quite proper in his sleeping posture. His hands rested neatly on the blanket, facing the ceiling with closed eyes.

At that moment, Chu Wenyu’s heart gradually calmed down. He gently closed the door and approached the bedside. His deep gaze fixed on Jiang Ling.

Initially fueled by anger, he had intended to confront Jiang Ling about the situation. However, he now found himself in no hurry to wake him. After all, whether Jiang Ling’s feelings were genuine or not, the engagement had to be canceled. He couldn’t allow such a thing to hinder his eyes.

They had never shared a bed before, and Chu Wenyu had never seen Jiang Ling in his sleep. Chu Wenyu’s ice-cold hand lightly touched the Alpha’s cheek, as if unable to get enough of it, he caressed it gently.

“You’re sleeping soundly,” he murmured softly, showing no intention of waking him.

Chu Wenyu was not one to sleep much, and at this moment, he felt no hint of fatigue. Just watching Jiang Ling filled his heart to the brim. This person was everything he liked. But why did he like someone else?

Chu Wenyu supported his head and quietly savored the calm before the storm. When Jiang Ling woke up to face his questions, would he reveal any signs of guilt? He was well-versed in deciphering the psychological activities behind Jiang Ling’s expressions, and any hint of oddity wouldn’t escape his notice.

So, when Jiang Ling gradually opened his eyes in a daze, he felt a shadow covering his line of sight. He turned slightly to the side, sensing something amiss. His gaze fell upon his Majesty, who seemed to meld with the darkness, sitting there quietly, his eyes carrying a hint of accusation and bitterness as he looked at him.

Jiang Ling hurriedly sat up and moved back a couple of steps, genuinely startled by the sudden appearance. Once he confirmed that it was Chu Wenyu, he couldn’t help but ask in a somewhat helpless tone, “Your Majesty, why are you here?”

Fortunately, he hadn’t been too eager to fight last night, or he might have been caught off guard. Jiang Ling, however, hadn’t expected Chu Wenyu to enter directly through the door, and that’s why he had an ominous feeling when he learned that the other had instructed to open a door in the middle.

After all, what couldn’t a villain do?

“I have something to ask you,” Chu Wenyu said, showing no signs of fatigue from maintaining the same posture for two hours. He continued to gaze intently at Jiang Ling’s actions.

Checking the time, Jiang Ling realized it was already six o’clock, but the curtains were tightly closed. He got out of bed and walked over to Chu Wenyu’s side, noticing that the other was only wearing silk pajamas, which felt smooth and cool to the touch. He wondered if Chu Wenyu was cold.

“Why didn’t you wake me if you had something to discuss? How long have you been waiting here?” Jiang Ling furrowed his brows and massaged Chu Wenyu’s shoulder muscles.

This man’s thought process was truly puzzling.

Chu Wenyu had no interest in engaging in small talk. He firmly held Jiang Ling’s hand, which was massaging his shoulder, and got straight to the point, “Do you have an engagement with an Omega?”

Jiang Ling hesitated for a moment, taking some time to recollect that such a thing might exist. He couldn’t even remember what the Omega looked like.

“Your Majesty, are you… serious? You’ve been sitting here for so long just for this?” Jiang Ling found the situation a bit awkward.

Jiang Ling probably understood that Chu Wenyu was feeling jealous. He chuckled and leaned in close to Chu Wenyu’s ear, teasingly saying, “You’re so cute, Your Majesty. You’ve been sitting here for so long just for this?”

Chu Wenyu’s ears turned as red as ink, a reaction he hadn’t expected from Jiang Ling. There was no sign of panic or feigned composure.

“Don’t change the subject. Is this true?” Chu Wenyu asked, tilting his head stiffly.

“It was merely a formality. Both sets of parents were joking at the time, and no one took it seriously,” Jiang Ling explained.

“But I heard that you have feelings for him,” Chu Wenyu turned away, facing Jiang Ling with a determined expression. Although half of his anger had subsided, his naturally suspicious nature prevented him from fully trusting.

“I like… older ones.” Jiang Ling leaned against the edge of the bed, deliberately elongating his voice, but his affectionate gaze was fixed on Chu Wenyu.

Chu Wenyu was distracted by the golden-haired youth by the bed, and Jiang Ling’s response left him somewhat flustered. He was both annoyed that Jiang Ling said he was older and secretly pleased.

“Rascal! Smooth talker… Don’t think I won’t find out you’re trying to please me just to escape,” Chu Wenyu threatened in a sinister tone.

“Besides, I’m only a few years older than you…” Chu Wenyu tried to salvage the situation, not wanting Jiang Ling to feel that their age difference was too significant.

“Yeah, I think a ten-year gap is fine,” Jiang Ling was quite understanding.

Chu Wenyu’s face stiffened, and he pulled at his hair impatiently. “Who told you about my… age.”

There was no room for ambiguity now.

Jiang Ling chuckled softly, finding this lively side of Chu Wenyu interesting. However, he didn’t press the age issue any further. But the Emperor was truly adorable, even though the information about him was plainly written on the Star Network, it was no longer a secret.

Chu Wenyu, feeling infuriated, said, “Anyway, I won’t accept this engagement. I’ll cancel it today.” He didn’t care if it was in name only; he couldn’t allow this to exist!

“Alright, it’s your call,” Jiang Ling had no objections. He had only been lazy about dealing with this matter before, so if Chu Wenyu cared, he agreed.

Upon hearing Jiang Ling’s decisive response, Chu Wenyu finally reluctantly believed that he had no interest in that person named Sang Lan. Chu Wenyu raised an eyebrow in a good mood. “Then send an email to Charles, that old…” He paused, making Jiang Ling watch as he finished writing and sent it.

It wasn’t enough for Jiang Ling to agree; Chu Wenyu even made sure he watched as he sent the email.

King Charles received the email while playing an ancient board game with his minister, Sang Tai. He had heard that Jiang Qian’s performance at the Holy Dan Academy was excellent, and even the dean had praised him. Charles felt proud of his child. He was somewhat superstitious, as when his two princes were born, the royal sage predicted that one of them would eventually inherit the throne and perhaps even unify the galaxies. He initially thought it would be the older prince, Jiang Ling, as he looked very intelligent and cute as a child. However, he didn’t expect Jiang Ling to turn out to be a waste with no spiritual power; it was impossible for such a person to inherit the throne.

Fortunately, he now had Jiang Qian, his second prince, who turned out to be even more outstanding than he had imagined. Even though he was only a S-ranker, his child possessed a SS-rank spiritual power and was admitted to the most prestigious academy in the galaxy, Holy Dan Academy.

Sitting across from him was his trusted minister of finance, Sang Tai.

Sang Tai was a highly trusted minister of Charles, and today he had a specific purpose for coming.

Since the second prince entered Holy Dan Academy and met more geniuses, including some Omega from major nations who were also powerful prodigies, his younger son had become increasingly concerned that Jiang Qian’s heart would be stolen away. Recently, Jiang Qian had been colder to him than usual, and they didn’t communicate much, especially since they were in different locations. Only occasionally would Sang Lan take the time to visit the second prince, so he insisted on coming to request that the Emperor change the engagement.

Sang Tai also had this idea in his mind. Changing the engagement from the elder prince to the second prince would be the best choice. With the second prince’s talents, his son would at least become Charles Star’s concubine, and perhaps even attain a higher position. Jiang Ling, on the other hand, was destined to be nothing more than a waste.

The steward nervously handed the email Jiang Ling had sent to King Charles. Charles frowned; he had almost forgotten about this son. When he agreed to send Jiang Ling to Burke, he was prepared to sacrifice his eldest son. He never expected that Jiang Ling would not only avoid falling into dire circumstances but also use the Burke Star King’s account to send him an email.

While King Charles was checking the mail, the finance minister finally brought up his idea. “Your Majesty, Sang Tai has something he wants to…”

But before he could finish his sentence, Charles interrupted him with a wave of his hand.

He didn’t know why Jiang Ling, as a hostage, would be in the mood to consider ending the engagement. But since both parties no longer liked each other, it seemed reasonable to end it. Besides, he was quite pleased that Jiang Ling had proposed this. He had heard rumors about his eldest son’s infatuation with the Sang Tai family, and he had often felt embarrassed as a member of the royal family. Now, at least, it was being initiated by the royal family.

“Sang Tai, do you still remember the engagement between Jiang Ling and your family’s Sang Lan over ten years ago?”

Sang Tai saw that King Charles was bringing up this matter, thinking that he had the same intention, and nodded quickly, saying, “I remember. I came here today to discuss this matter.”

“I know that your Sang Lan has never had any interest in Jiang Ling all these years, and now that Jiang Ling is willing to let go, let me take the initiative to announce the termination of this engagement,” Charles said. Jiang Ling seemed to understand the importance of preserving the royal family’s face, unlike before when he was so stubborn.

Sang Tai’s expression stiffened. He had more in mind than just this. Breaking off Sang Lan’s engagement casually would severely damage his reputation. If he could argue that the engagement with the Second Prince was the best option at the time, and only the eldest prince would have to endure some inconvenience.

“Your Majesty, in fact, Sang Lan and the Second Prince are mutually interested. How about not canceling the engagement but modifying the original agreement? After all, our decision should not affect the younger generation.”

Charles didn’t show much emotion on his face, but he naturally didn’t agree with this approach. His second son should have a more beneficial Omega, and he couldn’t be bound by any affection.

“Let’s discuss this matter later; for now, let’s terminate the engagement.” Charles said firmly, clearly not satisfied with Sang Tai’s attitude.

In just a few days, the news that Sang Lan’s engagement was broken off by the eldest prince spread among Charles Star’s upper-class circles. They all knew how proud an Omega like Sang Lan was voluntarily abandoned by the incompetent prince.

Upon hearing this news, Sang Lan was so angry that he smashed everything in his room.

He had already lost his appetite because of Jiang Qian’s actions, and now Jiang Lian, who was still trapped in Burke, was breaking off their engagement. Sang Lan felt that this was completely different from what he had imagined.

“Is Jiang Ling insane?” Sang Lan muttered to himself. He still remembered the last time he saw Jiang Ling, how he had begged him not to leave.

The more he thought about it, the more impossible it seemed. How could Jiang Ling stop liking him so quickly? A feeling of melancholy welled up in him for no apparent reason. He was once captivated by Jiang Ling’s appearance, but when he found out that Jiang Ling was just a worthless waste without any spiritual power, he lost all interest. He wanted to be the most honored person in Charles Star, and obviously, Jiang Ling couldn’t do that.

Could it be that his cruel rejection had made Jiang Ling hold a grudge against him? Even if he regretted it, there was no way to turn back time because now, rumors about him had spread even within his own academy.

The most popular Omega had been abandoned by the incompetent prince. Meanwhile, Jiang Ling remained unaware of the fact that his actions, aimed at pleasing Chu Wenyu, were causing such a significant stir. He continued to immerse himself in the ‘Interstellar Therapist Score Match’ day and night, and his knowledge base was growing at a frightening speed.
