There was no evening self-study session on Friday. Zhou Zhou and Yu Yang went out to have dinner before returning home.

Zhou Qiao, his older sister, hadn’t come back from her business trip yet. But Zhou Zhou had a hunch that her absence might not be entirely due to business. Living with a boyfriend or something similar wasn’t out of the realm of possibility.

Zhou Zhou didn’t mind either way. With his sister not at home, there was one less person to scold him. Besides, he and his sister had always been quite self-reliant from a young age and Zhou Qiao trusted him to stay at home alone.

Although he didn’t know why Yu Yang’s mood was so low, Zhou Zhou patiently tried to cheer him up with some offbeat jokes. He thought that if Yu Yang really liked Cheng Che, he would feel responsible for causing him such pain.

However, no matter what Zhou Zhou said, Yu Yang couldn’t manage a smile. So, Zhou Zhou, while cracking jokes, unintentionally became irritated with him. He told Yu Yang to hurry back home and not waste any more time since it was getting late.

Zhou Zhou walked into his residential complex with his head lowered. Despite the numerous questions and uncertainties in his mind, he felt relieved that he had seen Cheng Che today and had even had that intimate moment with him. It made him happy.

Lost in his thoughts, Zhou Zhou raised his head and saw someone standing beneath the streetlamp at the entrance of the complex.

Without much thought, he recognized that it was Cheng Che.

Zhou Zhou’s heart began to race. He immediately jogged over, looking up at Cheng Che and asking, “Why are you here? How long have you been waiting?”

“Not long,” Cheng Che replied. “I went to your building and saw that your lights weren’t on. So I figured you hadn’t returned yet. That’s why I came out to wait for you.”

“Why didn’t you send me a WeChat message, then?” Zhou Zhou frowned. “If you had told me, I would have come back sooner.”

Cheng Che looked down at him. In the clear light of the streetlamp, every strand of his hair was illuminated. He said, “Because I didn’t reply to your WeChat message promptly before and it made you upset. So, I’m punishing myself by standing here and experiencing the feeling of waiting for someone.”

Zhou Zhou was at a loss for words. He didn’t expect Cheng Che to be so smooth with his words when expressing affection. The way he combined it with reality felt very natural and authentic.

“Did you need something from me?” Zhou Zhou touched his own nose, feeling embarrassed. “Are you done with your matter?”

“Not yet. The elders told me to take a break first. I’ll go back after I’ve taken a shower,” Cheng Che said as he took Zhou Zhou’s backpack. “Let’s go back home.”

The words ‘go back home’ suddenly ignited a warmth in Zhou Zhou’s heart. These simple words had never felt so moving. They were so plain yet tender. They sounded like an old and lingering dream.

Before he could bask in that warmth for long, he heard Cheng Che walking and asking, “You still have nothing to say to me?”

Zhou Zhou felt his heart skip a beat and his mind quickly began to calculate what he had been keeping from Cheng Che.

  1. I’m an omega.
  2. I’ve been finding excuses to get close to you.
  3. I really like you.

In reality, none of these were too much earth-shattering revelations, right?

But Zhou Zhou was afraid. When you can’t be entirely sure about someone’s feelings, you tend to become cautious and apprehensive. All the courage he had built up was now like an impenetrable shield, preventing him from revealing the truth.

As Zhou Zhou continued to ponder, considering how to start the conversation, both of them had already reached the entrance of the building.

Cheng Che halted in his steps. But Zhou Zhou kept walking a few more steps, lost in thought. It took him a moment to realise that Cheng Che wasn’t by his side anymore.

He turned around, feeling somewhat bewildered. He saw Cheng Che standing under a streetlamp beside a flower bed, holding Zhou Zhou’s backpack. Cheng Che’s gaze was fixed on him and his face revealed unfathomable emotion.

Zhou Zhou wasn’t sure what Cheng Che was expecting him to say. But he felt that he should say something now because Cheng Che didn’t seem particularly happy.

“I…” Zhou Zhou thought for a moment and said, “I brought back the chemistry test paper. Do you want to help me with some tutoring?”

Cheng Che lowered his head as he smiled in a resigned manner. He then let out a sigh.

He raised his gaze shortly afterwards and began to walk slowly toward Zhou Zhou. He was speaking as he moved.

“Cheng Che, I’m an omega.”

A chord in Zhou Zhou’s head seemed to be struck instantly. It set off a cascade of recent memories. His eyes widened, his heart raced, and he stood there with a slightly open mouth, unable to believe what he was hearing.

“I really like you, Cheng Che.”

As Cheng Che spoke, he continued to approach Zhou Zhou with his tone spoken flatly. However, Zhou Zhou instinctively moved backward. His expression was filled with panic.

“Even though you might think we’re not that close yet, I’ve liked you for a while now.”

Zhou Zhou shook his head frantically, taking deep breaths. He didn’t even know why he was shaking his head. He simply couldn’t believe that Cheng Che had heard those confessions he had made when Cheng Che was supposed to be asleep.

“I was actually supposed to transfer to the Omega Center. But I wanted to see you every day. So I secretly stayed here.”

Zhou Zhou had now retreated to the wall downstairs. He watched as Cheng Che, with an expressionless face, repeated these words, step by step, coming closer. Cheng Che’s gaze was directed downward, bearing a sense of superiority.

Zhou Zhou had no idea what Cheng Che was thinking at that moment. He didn’t know if Cheng Che was angry or if he was feeling something else. He just felt that everything he had done seemed like a performance, entirely observed by Cheng Che. Zhou Zhou had been fully immersed in it, oblivious to it, and found it both bittersweet and amusing.

Cheng Che walked up to him and continued, “Cheng Che, I have a bold request.”

Zhou Zhou suddenly closed his eyes and covered his ears. His voice trembled as he spoke. “Please don’t say it anymore. Can you not say it?”

He was very aware of what he had said next at that time. So now he just wanted to prevent Cheng Che from saying anything more. However, he couldn’t stop him. So he could only cover his own ears, acting like a fool who shuts his eyes and ears to avoid hearing anything at all.

Cheng Che pursed his lips, gripping Zhou Zhou’s wrist and pressing it against the wall on either side of his shoulders. He leaned in closer and asked, “Can I kiss you?”

Zhou Zhou frowned in alarm, looking at him in disbelief. When he had said these words, he had been full of nervousness and joy. He never expected to have his words thrown back at him so directly.

“If you don’t answer, I’ll take it as a yes,” Cheng Che finally repeated the last sentence.

Zhou Zhou lowered his gaze, unable to look at Cheng Che any longer. His entire being, from his eyelashes to the tips of his hair, was trembling. He remembered that after saying that line, he had immediately stolen a kiss at the corner of Cheng Che’s lips without any hesitation. He could recall the heartbeat and emotions of that moment vividly. However, in comparison to the present, it suddenly felt ironic and embarrassing.

He didn’t know how to explain it. So he shakily started, “I’m s-sor…”

Before he could finish the last word, Cheng Che leaned in and kissed him. He released Zhou Zhou’s pinned hands and instead embraced his waist, gently and slowly nibbling on Zhou Zhou’s lips. Zhou Zhou was taken by surprise by the change. He stared wide-eyed for a moment. It took him a while to gingerly place his hands on Cheng Che’s shoulders, then slowly close his eyes and respond to the kiss.

The scent of minty sake pheromones was crisp and refreshing. Zhou Zhou suddenly had a realisation. He realised that the situation might not be as bad as he had imagined. In fact, it might be an entirely different scenario.

*Translator’s Note: Yeah. He had no idea that he would soon be ‘eaten’ by a wolf. Not in the next chapter, however. Haha. -K
