VGAB Chapter 51

The last sword cultivator of the cultivation world

When the emotionless sword evaded Xiao Mo’s blocking attempt and continued to approach Qi Heng, Xiao Mo was furious. He scolded, “You, a sword, can also have changing affections? Stay away! Can my Senior Brother be something you can covet?”

After venting his anger, Xiao Mo summarized with another phrase, “A greedy toad longing for swan’s meat!”

The emotionless sword, referred to as the greedy toad, launched a powerful sword intent attack on Xiao Mo. Xiao Mo had no chance against the sword, and Qi Heng raised his hand to block it, simultaneously using his magic to bind the emotionless sword.

“Have you gone mad?” The remnant sense detected the malevolent aura of the emotionless sword and was instantly shocked. The heart of a sword cultivator was as sharp and unyielding as the swords they wielded. How could a sword cultivator fall into malevolence?

“You’re talking nonsense! How could my Senior Brother possibly go mad? I think your way of forcing people to inherit legacies is more like madness!” Xiao Mo stood in front of Qi Heng, worried that the sinister remnant sense might take action against his Senior Brother. He whispered to Qi Heng, “I’ll hold them off; you take this chance to escape.”

Qi Heng silently glanced at him but didn’t tell Xiao Mo that his whispered conversation was loud and clear to anyone with a bit of cultivation. He wondered what Xiao Mo had learned during his time in the cultivation world, given that in his previous life, Xiao Mo had been much more knowledgeable, having interacted with various experts in the Inner Sect. In this life, Xiao Mo seemed almost like an ordinary person, lacking even the most basic knowledge of the cultivation world compared to his previous self.

Could the Master Apprentice Gathering have such a significant impact?

“I’m just this wisp of remnant sense; there’s no need to worry,” the remnant sense chuckled bitterly. He hadn’t expected that after thousands of years, the Emotionless Sword had chosen two masters, both of whom had rejected it.

It had been a divine weapon sought after by numerous sword cultivators in its prime, and now it had fallen into such a state.

“Emotionless Sword, come back,” the remnant sense sighed. “Since it’s not meant to be, there’s no need to force it.”

The Emotionless Sword buzzed in protest.

Qi Heng looked at Xiao Mo and said, “This is your opportunity, and it will be of great help to you.”

If this lifetime’s Xiao Mo were to eventually confront the Heavenly Dao, the Emotionless Sword’s ability to shatter all emotions could greatly benefit him.

Xiao Mo hesitated for a moment, then said, “Alright, I trust you, Senior.”

He reached out to grasp the Emotionless Sword, but the sword arrogantly evaded his grasp, as if saying, “You didn’t want me before, and now you can’t have me.”

Xiao Mo, as if holding onto some kind of evidence, looked like he was about to make a complaint. “Look, Senior, it rejected me on its own this time. It’s not me refusing.”

The Emotionless Sword was utterly bewildered by his act of complaining. Qi Heng could even see it looking like it was doubting its existence.

“Don’t be absurd,” Qi Heng reprimanded him lightly. “I am not at liberty to stay here. I will depart for now.”

“Hey, Senior!” Xiao Mo called out, wanting to say that he didn’t find Qi Heng inconvenient to be around, but Qi Heng had already left.

“Hmph!” The Remnant grunted coldly. “If it weren’t for your Senior falling into darkness, in fact, given your Senior’s talent, he is even more suited for the Emotionless Way than you.”

“Of course,” Xiao Mo replied with pride. “That’s my Senior we’re talking about. Who can compare to him?”

Two people and one sword, all of them mutually disapproving of each other.

Qi Heng waited outside for a moment, sensing the change in spiritual energy within. He waved his hand to set up a teleportation array, ensuring that as soon as Xiao Mo exited the cave, he would be transported to the next opportunity point before leaving himself.

Inside the cave, Xiao Mo was still thinking about inheriting quickly and finding his Senior once he was done, completely unaware that Qi Heng had already left.

Qi Heng returned to the Demon Abyss, and unlike the previous time, the demons in the Abyss sensed his presence and scattered in all directions.

“He’s coming to eat…”

“Eat what?”

“That big demon is coming to eat the demons again.” Some of the more intelligent low-level demons, who had been startled into gaining some wisdom, warned the newly born and clueless demons.

Markings appeared on Qi Heng’s forehead as he entered the Demon Abyss. The demons in the Abyss crowded aside, leaving a clear path for him.

“Don’t push me, don’t push me, I’m about to be pushed out!”

“Ah!!! The big demon is looking in my direction!”

A slender, hand, like polished jade, grabbed it.

“Help! I’m about to be eaten by the big demon!” the captured demon screamed, but the other demons around it dispersed without much concern.

“Take me to the entrance to the Demon Realm,” the cold voice made the newly intelligent low-level demon shiver. “Don’t eat me, I’ll lead you there.”

Qi Heng released his grip, allowing the demon to fly away, and followed not too closely behind.

Low-level demons didn’t have the wits to think about running away or intentionally leading him astray, so before long, Qi Heng was led to the entrance of the Demon Realm.

“Th-th-this is it,” the demon stammered, “Can you please not eat me?”

Qi Heng didn’t respond and simply stepped into the entrance of the Demon Realm. After a moment of dizziness, he found himself in the market of the demon realm.

Unlike the cultivation world, the Demon Realm never saw the sun, only a high, dark-red moon providing a bit of illumination in the perpetually dark realm.

The demon market was eerily quiet, lacking the hustle and bustle of the cultivation world. Bizarre-looking ordinary demons sat in front of stalls, dozing off.

The items on the stalls were equally peculiar, mostly consisting of scrap and oddities. There was even a stall with a bundle of green grass, utterly lacking any spiritual energy, just mundane grass you’d find on Earth.

The demon at the stall, perhaps sensing Qi Heng’s gaze, thought a potential customer had arrived and eagerly spoke, “My lord, don’t be fooled by this ordinary grass without any spiritual energy. This grass comes from the mortal realm, and it was quite a perilous journey to bring it here.”

Between the Demon Realm and the Mortal Realm lay the cultivation world. Demons who wanted to travel to the mortal realm had to pass through the cultivation world. Once the people of the cultivation world detected the presence of demons, they would relentlessly hunt them down.

For ordinary demons, grass from the mortal realm was indeed a rare and precious item.

Qi Heng had a crimson demon mark on his forehead, a symbol of a high-ranking demon, which was why the demon used the honorific title.

“The nearest demon palace is located where?” Qi Heng suddenly inquired.

“Demon Palace?” The demon hesitated for a moment and then pointed in a direction. He added, “My lord, it might be unfortunate to go to the Demon Palace at this time.”

“Why is that?”

The demon looked around cautiously and whispered, “I have a friend of a friend who serves as a guard in the Demon Palace. I heard that the Demon Lords are not in the palace right now. They say the Demon Lord who will lead the demons to rule the Three Realms has been born, and they have gone out to find the Demon Lord.”

The demon spoke with a mix of truth and falsehood. In reality, he had no friend of a friend; it was himself who had sneaked out of the Demon Palace to do business when he saw there wasn’t much going on in there.

“Is that so? Thank you for the information,” Qi Heng said, lowering his gaze. Then, in a flash, he flew in the direction indicated by the demon.

Qi Heng entered the grand hall of the Demon Palace without being noticed by the regular demon guards outside. He walked directly to the central throne and took a seat.

“Who are you?”

In a short while, a red-haired demon wielding a demonic spear burst into the hall.

Qi Heng merely cast a casual glance at him and froze him in place.

Subsequently, the remaining Demon Lords rushed in one by one, each meeting the same fate as the first one.

The grand hall of the Demon Palace now housed nine statues, each depicting a figure with a menacing, cunning, or alluring appearance.

However, the nine Demon Lords were far from worried; they were actually thrilled. Such formidable abilities and the dazzling demon marks were unmistakable signs of the newly born Demon King.

“We welcome the arrival of the Demon King, and we beg for your forgiveness for our distant reception, Your Excellency.”

Qi Heng gently moved his fingers, releasing the paralysis on the Demon Lords.

“Thank you, Demon King.” Prior to their encounter, some Demon Lords may have had doubts about the new Demon King. However, after experiencing his power, they were now wholeheartedly devoted. The mere glance that immobilized them and left them unable to resist made it clear that their new leader was truly extraordinary.

In the world of demons, strength was revered, and with a Demon King like this, the day of demonkind’s dominance over the three realms seemed imminent.

Having accepted the inheritance, Xiao Mo’s cultivation indeed reached the middle stage of the Nascent Soul Stage. After confirming that he hadn’t lost his emotions and desires, he felt relieved. He carried the love-hate relationship with the Unfeeling Sword and stepped out of the cave, ready to go up the cliff to find his senior.

However, as soon as he took the first step out of the cave, Xiao Mo found himself stepping into empty space. After a brief dizziness, he opened his eyes to a new scene.

If he were still in the Foundation Establishment stage, he might have thought that the old man had set up another illusion to trick him. But now, as a Nascent Soul stage cultivator, he immediately sensed that something was amiss.

It wasn’t an illusion; he had been transported to a secret realm.

“Hey,” Xiao Mo raised the Unfeeling Sword in his hand and knocked on it. “Could it be that the old man is behind this again?”

The Unfeeling Sword vibrated in annoyance at Xiao Mo’s remark, quite irritated with this foolish sword cultivator.

Xiao Mo took a few steps inside while carrying the sword, and the scene fluctuated again. When he opened his eyes once more, he found himself in a grand hall.

“Huh! Why are there so many weird-looking creatures!” Xiao Mo was utterly baffled by these statues, some with horns, some with human bodies and snake tails, and others covered in unknown markings.

As soon as he spoke, it alerted the statues to his presence. The statues slowly stirred, then came to life, all converging on Xiao Mo and launching an attack.

“Holy crap, they’re still alive!” Xiao Mo quickly dodged their attacks, drawing the Unfeeling Sword and striking at the statues. However, it seemed like these statues couldn’t be killed. No matter how hard he fought, the statues would fall to the ground but resurrect in seven seconds right where they had fallen.

As he continued to battle, Xiao Mo’s expression grew more serious. He noticed a pattern – if he managed to strike multiple statues at the same time, those statues would take longer to resurrect.

Xiao Mo held the sword hilt to fend off the attacks of the statues while he couldn’t help but think of other things. Although he and the Unfeeling Sword had a complicated relationship, their cooperation was flawless. It seemed that what his senior had said was correct; this inheritance was indeed suited for him.

“I’ll have to use that move,” Xiao Mo tapped the Unfeeling Sword, “Buddy, cooperate with me!”

The statues resurrected once more and rushed towards him.

“Sky-Sealing Strike.” Xiao Mo’s expression turned cold, and countless sword shadows shot out, skewering the statues through in a single stroke.

The statues fell to the ground, and this time, they didn’t get up for a long time, eventually vanishing into the ground.

“Wow, the new master is so powerful!” A soft, female voice rang out, and before Xiao Mo stood an astonishingly beautiful woman.

“Is it you who has been behind all of this?” Xiao Mo’s expression was displeased. He had been delayed for quite some time, and he wasn’t sure if his senior brother was getting impatient up on the cliff.

“I am the spirit of the Universe Ring. I just wanted to test my new master…” The beautiful woman’s words were cut short by the Unfeeling Sword in Xiao Mo’s hand, piercing through her.

“You—” The woman’s eyes were filled with disbelief.

“Who are you trying to fool?” Xiao Mo’s eyes were cold, and his tone was mocking. “You’re just a parasitic spirit, yet you dare to claim the title of a ring spirit and occupy the Universe Ring.”

Xiao Mo pulled the Unfeeling Sword out once again and thrust it into her.

“Young master is truly heartless,” the woman displayed a heartbreakingly sorrowful expression, combined with her stunning beauty, making her extremely enticing. “I was just testing the waters a bit.”

“If you hadn’t attacked me, I might have spared your life,” Xiao Mo sneered. “Why cry? Do you think I’m one of those cultivators who show mercy when they see a woman cry?”

After advancing to the Nascent Soul stage, his vision seemed to have improved, allowing him to see through illusions. So when he first entered this place, he saw the dead cultivators who had been deluded into thinking they were dying in a blissful dream.

The resplendent woman’s eyes briefly showed a hint of astonishment as she couldn’t comprehend why her charm suddenly seemed to have no effect.

Xiao Mo, adhering to the truth that antagonists die due to their excessive talk, ceased speaking and simply thrust the sword through the woman, ending her existence.

Apologies, but he just holds grudges that way.
