BNR Chapter 23

Happy New Year (1)

Mu Qi looked at the gift bag on the desk, her eyes full of joy. She turned off the bedside lamp, closed her eyes, and eagerly entered the realm of dreams.

The next day, just when Mu Qi was about to take the gift and go to see Su Yanxi, her father came back, accompanied by a woman who looked at her with a smiling face.

“Xiao Qi.” When Mu Guoqiang arrived at the doorstep, he saw his daughter happily heading out and couldn’t help but call her.

Looking at Mu Qi, Mo Sisi smiled and said, “Mu Qi, hello, I’m Mo Sisi.”

Mu Qi put away the smile on her face, glanced at the woman, and then looked at the man in front of her in silence.

Since his divorce from his wife two years ago, his daughter had been looking at him with such eyes. Mu Guoqiang spoke faintly, “Xiao Qi, this is your Aunt Mo. Let’s have lunch together.”

Mu Qi stepped back and said, “No time,” before closing the door in front of the two.

With a loud bang, Mo Sisi was startled, and Mu Guoqiang’s face turned cold. He didn’t say a word, just turned and left.

“Mr. Mu.” Mo Sisi looked at the closed door and hurriedly caught up with Mu Guoqiang.

Mu Qi sat on the floor with her back against the door, her head hanging down. Her shoulder-length, scattered hair concealed her expression, but her clenched fist and the prominent veins on the back of her hand exposed her current mood.

She didn’t expect that the man would bring a woman home, and one who wanted to enter their house at that.

Thinking of that smiling face, Mu Qi was infuriated, and her eyes turned red.

Originally, she thought she could let go of her parents’ affairs, but when she saw the scene today, she still cared a lot.

Looking at the gift beside her, Mu Qi no longer had the mood to go see Su Yanxi. She was afraid that her own negative emotions would affect the other person, so she locked the gift in the drawer and went to find Hu Ying to go clubbing.

In fact, every time she went to the club, it wasn’t to dance but to let the noisy sounds fill her mind, preventing her from thinking about anything else.

“Xiao Ma Ge, I think I just saw Qi Jie.” A person rushed to the counter and said to a man with a small flat head.

“Qi Jie?” Xiao Ma immediately ran upstairs to find Hong Jie.

“Qi Ge, you come, but you don’t go dance. Are you just sitting here daydreaming?” Hu Ying looked at Mu Qi with some confusion. She couldn’t understand why every time Mu Qi came, she ordered a drink, sat in this corner, didn’t dance, and didn’t want to chat with anyone. It was just too strange.

“Yeah, you go ahead.” Mu Qi nodded, then let her go play on her own.

Hu Ying shrugged and went to the dance floor, leaving Mu Qi alone in the corner.

Mu Qi was quite conspicuous, with a cold demeanor and a melancholic look. She directly attracted many guys and girls around her. Even bold guys who approached for conversation were all rejected by her.

When Hong Jie came down from upstairs, Mu Qi had already rejected the fifth person trying to strike up a conversation. Just as she was impatient and wanted to leave, Hong Jie approached, holding two glasses of wine. She handed one to Mu Qi and took a sip from the other, sitting on the left side of her, leaning slightly closer, and asked, “Little Seven, why didn’t you notify Hong Jie when you came so that she could properly take care of you?”

Mu Qi smiled faintly, clinked glasses with her and said, “Hong Jie, there’s no need to bother. I’ll be leaving in a while.”

After chatting for a while, Hu Ying also came over. Mu Qi stood up and said, “Hong Jie, we’re leaving now. We’ll see you next time.”

Hong Jie wanted to stop her, but Mu Qi quickly left with Hu Ying. She knew Mu Qi was avoiding her; she probably didn’t want to come again next time.

Thinking that she was several years older than Mu Qi, Hong Jie sighed, shook her head, and went upstairs.

“Qi Ge, what’s going on?” Hu Ying was still a bit confused. She was panting and had been pulled quite far by Mu Qi before she had time to catch her breath.

“It’s nothing.” Mu Qi put on her hat, hands in her pockets, furrowed her brows slightly, gazing ahead, and slowly walked forward.

At this moment, the image of Su Yanxi’s smile suddenly appeared in her mind. Thinking of Su Yanxi’s smile, somehow, her restless mood calmed a bit. Then she said to Hu Ying, “Let’s go find Su Yanxi and have hotpot together.”

“Ah?” Hu Ying hadn’t fully recovered from what just happened, and when she heard Su Yanxi’s words, she couldn’t help but be a bit dazed. It took her a while before she nodded.

When Mu Qi and Hu Ying arrived downstairs at Su Yanxi’s place, they happened to see the girl leaning at the window, waving and smiling at the woman in front of them. Then the girl’s gaze fell on Mu Qi and Hu Ying. She immediately lit up with joy, her eyes and the small dimples at the corners of her mouth showing.

Su’s mother didn’t notice Mu Qi and Hu Ying because she was in a hurry and left.

Su Yanxi put on her clothes and hurriedly ran down from upstairs with a ‘thud thud’. Because she ran too fast, her face turned red. When she reached them, her face was full of disbelief. She smiled and said, “How did you come?”

Hu Ying spoke first, “Qi Ge wants to treat us to hotpot. Are you coming?”

Hearing this, Su Yanxi looked at Mu Qi. Seeing Mu Qi’s deep eyes on her, her face turned even redder. She nodded and said, “Sure.” Then she added, “Wait for me a moment; I’ll go upstairs to change.”

Because she was too hasty earlier, she only put on a down jacket over her pajamas. After a few steps, she realized it was too cold outside, so she turned back and said, “Can you wait for me at my place?”

“Sure.” Hu Ying had never been to Su Yanxi’s place and naturally wanted to take a look.

Su Yanxi’s gaze fell on Mu Qi, who nodded.

As they went upstairs, Su Yanxi frequently glanced back at Mu Qi. She felt that Mu Qi had something on her mind but didn’t know what it was. She could only purse her lips and pull out the keys to open the door.

Su Yanxi’s home wasn’t large, but it was very cozy, making Mu Qi a bit fascinated.

“This is my room.” Mu Qi pushed open a door and walked in, generously introducing it to them.

The girl’s room was also warm and cute. There was a teddy bear on the bed, and the desk was filled with textbooks, along with an open exam paper that she had been working on, now halfway done.

“Please, have a seat,” Su Yanxi said and was about to take her clothes to change in the bathroom. Mu Qi stopped her and said, “You can change in your room; we’ll wait for you in the living room.”

“Okay.” Su Yanxi nodded, her face slightly blushing.

When the girl came out, it was already ten minutes later. Perhaps she changed in a hurry, and her fair face had a hint of blush. Opening the door, she said, “Let’s go.”

As the three of them left Su Yanxi’s house, it was getting a bit dark, but there were still many people on the road.
