“The Breeze Helps the Moon” sold well at the box office, marking a solid start to Wei Ruxia’s directing career. Following “The Breeze Helps the Moon,” in June, Wei Ruxia signed on for a new film, “Peppermint Rose,” and joined the production in July.
The filming location for “Peppermint Rose” is not in Ancheng but rather in the northern city of Licheng. Even though it’s in the north, July is scorching hot. Fortunately, “Peppermint Rose” is an industry drama, with most scenes set in hospitals where the air conditioning is abundant, so Wei Ruxia didn’t suffer much.
“Cut.” Wei Ruxia held the script and called a halt as she watched the male actor walling the female actor.
The lead actors in this movie are both popular figures. The female lead, Jia Yiran, is passable, although her acting skills are still somewhat immature, she at least graduated from the Film Academy. As for the male lead, Lin Nai, he comes from a singing background, but his acting falls a bit short.
Wei Ruxia used to watch stage actors perform, and now watching singers act, sometimes she finds it difficult to lower her standards.
As soon as Wei Ruxia called “Cut,” Lin Nai knew it was his mistake. He rubbed his nose, every move he made was handsome. As Wei Ruxia approached, he apologized, saying, “Sorry, Director.”
Wei Ruxia, with a thin sheen of sweat on her, looked up at Lin Nai. Despite his good attitude in admitting his mistake, Wei Ruxia’s eyes still held a sharpness.
“Let’s do it again.”
As she spoke, the crew members prepared to shoot again, at least this time they got through the first take. Leaving aside other matters, Lin Nai, despite his poor acting skills, had shown improvement, much better than when they started.
After finishing a day’s work, Wei Ruxia and the actors discussed the scenes for the next day. Once they finished, they clapped their hands and dispersed. There were no night scenes today, which was a rare leisure. Everyone discussed where to go or what to eat.
Wei Ruxia and the cinematographer watched the playback of today’s scenes. After outlining the shots, they looked up and saw Lin Nai and his manager standing next to him.
The crew knew that Lin Nai was a singer, a popular one at that, who later transitioned into acting. Despite criticism of his acting skills, his movies consistently did well at the box office. He had acted in several films before, but Wei Ruxia was the first director to demand such strictness from him.
Lin Nai was very handsome, sang well, and danced decently, but singing and dancing were not as popular now. Acting was where the money was. Movie producers also understood that popularity could drive box office sales, so they were a perfect match. Each got what they needed, making them a fixed combination in the entertainment industry.
Generally, male stars like him had bad tempers because their schedules were full, and they had to make money while their popularity lasted. But Lin Nai had a good temper. He wasn’t coming over to Wei Ruxia to negotiate speeding up the shooting schedule for tomorrow. Instead, he invited her to dinner.
“I mainly want to thank you,” Lin Nai said with a smile, “and apologize.”
Lin Nai was three years younger than her. He had a sunny and easy-going personality. Wei Ruxia didn’t dislike him aside from being strict with him at work. After all, he was quite polite.
“Alright,” Wei Ruxia replied with a smile. “Then it’s settled.”
Lin Nai smiled, revealing two small tiger teeth, and said with a grin, “No need to worry about the expense, Director. What do you like to eat?”
Wei Ruxia wasn’t picky about northern cuisine, and after discussing it with Lin Nai, he instructed his assistant to make a reservation. Given his special status and large fan base, they booked a private room at a restaurant near their hotel.
This dinner wasn’t just attended by Wei Ruxia and Lin Nai; Lin Nai’s agent was also present, along with a supporting actress from the same production, who happened to be another artist under Lin Nai’s agent. In the entertainment industry, there are often too many rumors, so this setup was mainly to avoid suspicion.
During the meal, Lin Nai genuinely thanked Wei Ruxia and sincerely apologized to her. It was evident that these gestures came from him and were not orchestrated by his agent; he truly wanted to perform well in the movie.
Wei Ruxia’s fondness for Lin Nai increased. As a director, she didn’t have much to teach him, but she casually remarked, “If you have time, you should watch more stage plays.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the agent’s expression turned awkward. After all, he was busy with schedules all day; how could he find time to watch stage plays?
“I will watch them. I enjoy watching stage plays,” Lin Nai responded, showing a keen interest in Wei Ruxia’s suggestion and disregarding his agent’s expression.
Wei Ruxia smiled and was about to speak when a phone rang nearby. She glanced at the caller ID, her eyes softening as she answered the call.
“Hello.”
Upon hearing Wei Ruxia’s voice on the other end, there was a soft chuckle, which made Wei Ruxia’s heart flutter with sweetness.
“I’m in Li City on a business trip, currently in the lobby of your hotel. Have you finished shooting for today?” Luo Tang responded.
Initially, Luo Tang hadn’t informed her about this matter. Upon hearing his voice, Wei Ruxia’s smile widened. She glanced at the people at the table and said, “I’m out for dinner with colleagues. I’ll be back soon.”
“Where are you? I’ll come to pick you up,” Luo Tang rose from his seat in the lobby.
“At the nearby Li City Hotel,” Wei Ruxia replied.
Wei Ruxia didn’t avoid the people around when she took the call, and from her tone, they could tell she had something to attend to. Since everyone had finished their meal, they all got up together and left the private room.
Luo Tang, wearing a cap and sunglasses, followed behind Wei Ruxia and asked, “Director, you didn’t finish what you were saying to me just now.”
Since joining the crew in July, Luo Tang had also been busy, and the couple hadn’t seen each other for a week. Although they had spent eight years apart before, it seemed like a blink of an eye, but now, just a week apart made Wei Ruxia feel restless. With Luo Tang’s reminder, Wei Ruxia’s mind cleared a space for him. Watching the elevator numbers change gradually, she told him, “In your free time, you can watch movies, write your own reviews, and share your impressions.”
After Wei Ruxia finished speaking, the elevator doors opened.
Outside the elevator, Luo Tang raised his head slightly to look at the numbers above the elevator. When the doors opened, he lowered his head and saw Wei Ruxia rushing out.
“Luo Tang,” Wei Ruxia looked at him with bright eyes, which warmed his heart.
Luo Tang reached out and pulled her into his arms. He glanced at the person following Wei Ruxia, two men and one woman. Among them, one man was the male lead in Wei Ruxia’s current film. Wei Ruxia had talked to him when she accepted this role.
While Lin Nai wasn’t short, he still looked shorter than Luo Tang. Seeing Wei Ruxia, who usually seemed like a teacher, now throwing herself into the man’s arms like a little girl, he felt a bit surprised by the contrast.
At that moment of realization, his gaze lingered on the back of Wei Ruxia’s neck. Lost in thought, Wei Ruxia’s neck was covered by a hand.
The fingers were slender and strong, with distinct joints and pale skin.
Lin Nai paused, lifting his head to meet a pair of eyes as deep as icy pools, clear yet profound. Subconsciously, Lin Nai averted his gaze.
“This is my husband, Luo Tang,” Wei Ruxia retracted her lovestruck thoughts and turned to introduce the person behind her.
“I know,” the supporting actress said, her eyes sparkling. “Wow, Director Wei, your husband is so handsome.”
Wei Ruxia was somewhat of a public figure in the industry. After the success of “The Breeze Helps the Moon,” stories about Wei Ruxia and Luo Tang were written as promotional pieces circulating on Weibo and forums.
But few people had seen Luo Tang’s appearance. They often imagined him as a domineering CEO, yet he exuded far more elegance than that stereotype. His looks were no less than those of a celebrity. It’s no wonder Wei Ruxia could be so strict even with Lin Nai; her husband was even more handsome than him.
Wei Ruxia smiled, holding Luo Tang’s hand, bidding farewell to them, saying, “Then I won’t join you guys.”
After saying that, Wei Ruxia took Luo Tang’s hand and said, “Let’s go.”
Luo Tang had driven over, and as soon as they got into the car, he started the engine and drove back to the hotel. Once inside Wei Ruxia’s room, Luo Tang closed the door, lifted his arm to lean against the wall, blocking Wei Ruxia’s path. When Wei Ruxia turned back, the man’s kiss dominantly descended upon her.
The two, after being apart for many days, shared a kiss filled with the tempest of their longing. Wei Ruxia held onto Luo Tang’s neck tightly, the kiss leaving her breathless. As their lips parted, their foreheads met, and Wei Ruxia looked into Luo Tang’s eyes, her heart pounding. She breathed lightly, her cheeks flushed.
“We should let Lin Nai see, let him know what a real ‘wall slam’ is,” Wei Ruxia recalled the scene from this morning, smiling as she spoke.
As soon as she finished speaking, her lips were sealed again, and Wei Ruxia’s heart skipped a beat. This time, Luo Tang didn’t intend to stop; he wrapped his arms around Wei Ruxia’s waist, lifted her with force, and then headed for the bedroom, pushing the door open.
Luo Tang had always been gentle and mild, but today’s intensity and assertiveness left Wei Ruxia feeling a bit overwhelmed. By the time it was over, her lower back felt sore, and a thin layer of sweat covered her body. Pressed against the man’s chest, she could feel the strong beating of his heart within.
“You’re jealous,” Wei Ruxia said, lying on her side. Her hand intertwined with Luo Tang’s behind her, her voice lazy and hoarse, tinged with post-passion sensuality.
The man behind her shifted slightly, planting a kiss near her ear, and denied in a deep voice, “No, I’m not.”
Wei Ruxia naturally didn’t believe him. She closed her eyes, feeling the lingering waves, and mercilessly exposed, “I know you’re jealous of Lin Nai, your possessiveness has always been strong.”
After she spoke, she turned her head, and her light brown eyes met Luo Tang’s ink-black ones. He gazed back at her, unwavering, his hand resting on the back of her head. Luo Tang kissed her forehead lightly and replied, “I don’t want to make it apparent.”
Sometimes, a man’s possessiveness can burden a woman, even affect her work. Wei Ruxia’s work was her dream, and he didn’t want to burden her.
“I like your possessiveness,” Wei Ruxia said with a smile, her eyes twinkling.
The room was filled with an intimate atmosphere, still carrying the scent of recent affection and love. As he looked at her smile, Luo Tang felt a flutter in his heart and asked, “Why is that?”
“In terms of emotions, it shows that you care about me. Physically…” Wei Ruxia’s hand traced down Luo Tang’s collarbone, her voice softening, “it’s quite comforting.”
As soon as she finished speaking, a hint of mischief flashed in her eyes, and Luo Tang’s eyes deepened as he chuckled softly.
From now on, he would show it without reservation.
