VFMESR Chapter 52.2

“I thought Jiang Ling was just your pet, so I wanted to help him,” Anna confessed her thoughts entirely. At this point, she couldn’t even protect herself and had to prioritize her survival. She knew that even if she disappeared from the palace today, her mother would be powerless to avenge her and might even be implicated.

“Did you say the same to him?” Chu Wenyu suddenly glared at her.

“I-I didn’t mean to. There’s a guard named Wilson who told me some things about the King’s past, and then I told Jiang Ling…” Anna’s voice trembled as she spoke.

“What did you say?” Chu Wenyu then recalled that the Alpha had a drastic change in attitude after attending the concert. It must have been due to Anna’s words.

Anna dared not conceal anything further and confessed everything in detail.

As Chu Wenyu listened, his brows furrowed deeper, and he even developed a severe headache.

Jiang Ling had discovered his initial intentions of using him, not to mention the subsequent deceit…

Chu Wenyu thought bitterly that even if Jiang Ling stood before him now, he couldn’t explain. Initially, he hadn’t thought about truly caring for the alpha; he had just wanted to have some fun.

However, Jiang Ling easily believed Anna’s words, fueling Chu Wenyu’s uncontrollable anger. Clearly, he was the one who had always been by Jiang Ling’s side. Even if he had made some mistakes, he could never harm Jiang Ling.

Later, Chu Wenyu learned from Anna about her plan and knew that Jiang Ling might be in another star system by now.

“Your Majesty, Anna really won’t dare anymore. Please have mercy and spare me,” Anna pleaded, fearing that Chu Wenyu might take drastic measures.

“The royal family has assets on remote planets in the Burke Star. I don’t want Jiang Ling to have a chance to contact you again,” Chu Wenyu said, staring directly at her.

Anna instantly understood Chu Wenyu’s intentions. She hesitated, not wanting to go to those desolate places. However, seeing Chu Wenyu’s gradually changing gaze, she immediately agreed.

Chu Wenyu escorted Anna out of the palace. Since the news had been released, billions of people had read about the royal family, but Chu Wenyu, eagerly waiting, still hadn’t been contacted by the one he longed for.

“Has he truly become indifferent to me?” Chu Wenyu, returning from the birthday banquet, hadn’t slept a wink. His eyes, already bloodshot from his shallow sleep, were now completely unrested and filled with red veins.

What is Jiang Ling doing now? In which star is he now? Has he made many acquaintances? Are there any he’s interested in? Certainly, with such a charming alpha, anyone with eyes would be attracted to him.

Chu Wenyu became somewhat obsessed, with hundreds of questions in his mind. The lack of response from Jiang Ling made him even more restless and anxious.

Is he truly not turning back, genuinely considering giving up on him? Does he no longer feel anything for him?

In this matter, Chu Wenyu didn’t have as much patience. He even started to become somewhat neurotic, with various past cold remarks from alphas echoing in his mind.

“Your Majesty, could you let me rest for a while?”

“Your Majesty, do as you please.”

“Your Majesty’s questions are suffocating.”

Each sentence expressed impatience towards him, as if he was no longer favored.

Chu Wenyu’s usually stable spiritual strength was nearing its explosive limit. Yet, he felt no physical pain, only a hole in his chest, bleeding profusely, a critical symptom that threatened to worsen.

There was only one antidote: that person’s return.

However, Chu Wenyu, losing patience first, didn’t believe Jiang Ling would turn back. Stubbornly, he thought the other had stopped liking him. So, if he wanted to salvage the situation, he had to rely on forceful measures.

Almost immediately, Chu Wenyu set aside all political matters and convened a secret meeting. Unbeknownst to the public, almost all ministers expressed opposition, but this monarch remained determined.

The route from Burke Star to Charles Star was filled with countless pathways, requiring passage through numerous star systems. Without a precise navigation plan, locating the position of a starship was nearly impossible.

As Jiang Ling traveled farther, he gradually began to relax, understanding that Chu Wenyu would most likely not be able to find him.

Perhaps he was being sentimental, or maybe he didn’t care much about him. Of course, that was what he expected more, but he couldn’t shake the inexplicable emptiness in his heart.

Even Jiang Ling himself was unwilling to admit that every time they docked, he would subtly force Lein to pay attention to news from Burke Star, especially updates about the ruler of Burke Star. This annoyed Lein, but each time the result was uneventful.

Only then did Jiang Ling feel at ease.

However, this time, he sensed something unusual. The docking time was shorter than usual, and he could see the urgency in the crew’s expressions.

“What’s happening?” People inside the starship kept asking, as they, too, sensed something was amiss.

Nobody could answer their questions, and the crew continued their journey at a swift pace.

During the journey, the tension on the faces of the crew gradually eased, reassuring everyone that, as long as they didn’t make stops, they were safe.

People on the ship continued to inquire about the situation. It didn’t take long for the reasons to reach Jiang Ling’s ears.

“I heard it was the planet we just docked at. Unluckily, they tightened security for some reason, stationed soldiers at vulnerable points to inspect for illegal immigration. We almost got caught on the spot. Fortunately, we left quickly, so there was no danger.”

“How can any star be patrolled so strictly during normal times? It’s really strange.”

“But luckily, we escaped. Otherwise, if we were detained, certain people’s whereabouts wouldn’t have been guaranteed.”

“But now, news of the starship attempting to smuggle will probably spread on that planet.”

“Let it spread. We’ve slipped away, and they can’t find us. It’s like, who doesn’t know that there are star pirates in many places? Which government has the capability to catch them?”

The crew didn’t seem overly concerned, but Jiang Ling sensed that something was wrong.

From what they were saying, this situation happened suddenly. What could be the reason for it?

Jiang Ling didn’t necessarily think this had anything to do with Chu Wenyu. He understood the principles of national sovereignty and independence. Regardless of how influential Chu Wenyu might be, his reach was limited to Burke Star.

Little did anyone know that just minutes ago, their location had been transmitted to the Burke Star government by the passing planet. Jiang Ling also hadn’t considered that Chu Wenyu, not only using his personal influence but also resorting to coercion and temptation, had extended his reach to the weaker star systems surrounding Burke Star in order to find him.

Once the location was fixed, technicians from Burke Star immediately planned the possible routes for the next steps and selected the most likely course.

Jiang Ling had an uneasy feeling throughout. He asked the crew again about the situation.

The pilot in the cockpit was following the planned route and hadn’t noticed anything unusual.

“Hey, do you have anxiety issues?” Lien asked helplessly.

While he was still daydreaming about a bright future, the scar-faced man behind was getting ready to teach Jiang Ling a lesson.

“Ah, I think he’s afraid of reaching the destination too quickly and getting a lesson from me,” the scar-faced man stared at Jiang Ling and said.

Since the scar-faced man knew Jiang Ling’s destination, he had announced his intention to accompany him as soon as they got off. People like them didn’t have a home, and Charles Star was developing well. They could settle down there. Moreover, the scar-faced man was eager to give Jiang Ling a proper lesson.

The staff, annoyed by the incessant questioning, simply retreated to their rooms.

“Who’d have the nerve to sneak onto a starship and be this timid?” one of them grumbled.

“There can’t be any danger now.” He casually sat down, pulled out a bottle of whisky from the cabinet, planning to take a sip or two while the weather was nice. Glancing out the window, his originally irritable expression instantly changed. He even widened his eyes.

The once-empty expanse of space was now filled with numerous military ships, unmistakably armed and approaching aggressively, as if they were targeting them. He quickly put on his hat and rushed outside to check the situation but felt the starship’s speed slowing down. Surrounded by the encroaching military vessels, it had no choice but to find a piece of land to land on.

None of the staff knew what was going on; it was the first time they’d encountered such a situation during a smuggling run.

The passengers sensed it too; they all looked out the window, their legs going weak at the sight of this spectacle.

“Could we be this unlucky? Are we caught in the crossfire between two nations?” one passenger speculated.

They scrutinized the military ships parked not far away, each one towering over their small vessel and displaying impeccable craftsmanship – evidently the military equipment of a powerful nation.

“Why have they stopped?” the crowd shouted.

“What on earth is happening?”

To their surprise, the surrounding military ships had all come to a halt, and batches of well-equipped soldiers were emerging, wielding weapons pointed directly at their starship.

Jiang Ling, with keen eyes, even spotted a person descending from the central ship – someone he, at this moment, did not wish to meet.
