Chi Feiran’s emotions were complex, but Chris seemed fine. He could even joke with his brother.
Chris said, “Don’t worry, the horse is fine, nothing happened. I’ve made sure it’s taken care of properly. André, I’ll make sure he’s taken care of too.”
These words were mainly to prevent his brother from asking further, fearing it might scare him.
Actually, there was nothing wrong with the horse; it was just a pretext. If the horse were to step on André a few times and accidentally kill him, how could he ever get his revenge?
Since learning about this incident, he had been thinking about how the instigator of all this should meet their end. But after much consideration, he realized that no matter how painful their death might be, it wouldn’t compare to living in suffering.
André wasn’t hated. He was just Chi Feiran’s half-brother from another mother. Let him experience helplessness, lying paralyzed in bed, watching everything being taken away, watching those who had once surrounded him gradually drift away. What kind of feeling would that be?
Didn’t he like to see scenes of family discord? Well, let him experience it himself.
Just imagining André’s reaction made Chris genuinely happy.
However… Chris didn’t want Ethan to know about these things. He just needed him to know that this matter was over.
His brother had already died once because of that scum; there was no need to bother with such scum anymore.
Ethan should go on to live his own, brand-new life.
A smile appeared on Chris’s usually cold face as he walked into the lobby with Chi Feiran, where their family was waiting.
A tall Christmas tree stood in the center of the lobby, still bare without decorations.
Eamon and Sherman stood under the tree, as if in conversation. When they saw the two sons come in, they both greeted them.
However, Caesar, being quicker, rushed towards them with a “meow” and jumped into Chi Feiran’s arms like a little cannonball.
Chi Feiran hugged it and stroked it until it was satisfied, then handed it to his brother before exchanging hugs with Sherman and Eamon.
Sherman said to his son, “Happy birthday.”
Chi Feiran replied with a smile, “Merry Christmas Eve.”
Edmond, standing impatiently beside them, sighed when the child finally opened his arms to him. “Now even the cat is ahead of me?”
This remark made the whole family laugh, and then they moved on to the usual routine of decorating the Christmas tree together.
Xie Man directed, father and sons worked, and Caesar caused mischief, playing with the small ornaments everywhere.
In the end, they had to let Charlie come and hold it, so it wouldn’t cause any more trouble. After Caesar was taken away, everything went smoothly.
Seeing that time was almost up, Sherman urged the two sons to go change their clothes. They shouldn’t come out if they weren’t dressed nicely.
The brothers exchanged a glance, then went back to their rooms to change into their formal wear. They looked quite handsome, meeting their mother’s requirements perfectly.
Guests began to arrive one after another, and the banquet hall buzzed with activity. Familiar people gathered in groups, chatting quietly. Eventually, most conversations revolved around one topic.
“Is there really no hope left for André?”
“Of course, didn’t you hear that Jeremy was brought back from E country? At today’s Oden family banquet, not a single person from the Gore family attended. Isn’t the result obvious enough?”
“Can the Gore family just let it go? After all, he’s their grandson by blood.”
“What else can they do? Do you really think Bob would hand over the Oden family to a cripple who can barely move except for his head?”
André’s popularity seemed truly dismal over the years. Regardless of how they usually interacted, when this topic came up, everyone’s eyes met, inevitably tinged with a bit of schadenfreude.
Everything was understood without being spoken. Saying more would make them seem cruel. People tacitly changed the subject, discussing trends like the recent popularity of raising stallions, which was quite risky, and how castrated horses were safer to own, all while looking at André as an example.
Honestly, Chi Feiran felt somewhat strange hearing André’s name mentioned in whispers during the banquet, especially when they talked about him being barely able to move except for his head. It wasn’t sympathy; it just felt oddly absurd.
He had hardly any interaction with André, barely exchanged any words even in social settings. Yet somehow, this person wanted to kill him.
And he had really died.
Chris noticed his unease and brought up the matter that had been put aside. In the midst of the liveliest part of the banquet, both of the Bonnet brothers disappeared from sight.
Chris showed his brother the video conversation with André.
The madness and malice emanating from the screen made Chi Feiran feel physically uncomfortable.
André not only wanted to kill him but also intentionally gave Chris false information, making him listen to his own supposed death in the explosion…
Just the thought sent chills down Chi Feiran’s spine. What kind of lunatic could do such a thing?
Just thinking about what might happen after his death in his previous life made his heart ache. The people who loved him, the people he loved, would all live in pain.
Sometimes life was like this; plans couldn’t keep up with changes. You never knew when a lunatic like André might appear in your life, imposing their will on others and seeking destruction when they couldn’t control them.
Chi Feiran took a deep breath, feeling particularly uncomfortable.
Chris reached out and rubbed his head. “Don’t be sad. He just can’t stand to see us doing well, so we have to do even better.”
Chi Feiran gritted his teeth. “He dared to treat you like that…”
Chris had already vented his emotions long ago, so now he could calmly advise him, “I’ve already gotten back at him.”
Chi Feiran said fiercely, “It’s not enough! No matter how much he compensates, it’s not enough!”
Tearing apart their entire family! How could André ever compensate for that?! Not even with his life!!!
Seeing his brother breathing heavily, eyes red, like an enraged little leopard ready to bite, Chris couldn’t help but feel happy inside.
There should be this side to him. Kindness and soft-heartedness were qualities meant only for close ones in Chris’s eyes.
Ethan’s character is indeed a bit too soft. It’s not that being kind-hearted is bad, but if a person only has softness and kindness, then it’s not a good thing.
But fortunately, Ethan isn’t like that.
Chris leaned back in his chair, finally able to relax. “So, I spared his life.”
It wasn’t because he feared the Oden family or André’s mother’s side, the Gore family. It was because he couldn’t bear to see André just die like that. Letting him die like that would be too easy for him.
Chris asked, “Do you want to come with me to see him?”
Chi Feiran didn’t hesitate. “Yes.”
He wanted to see with his own eyes what fate had befallen that person.
On Christmas Eve, the two young masters of the Bonnet family not only disappeared from the banquet but also left the mansion for a luxury private hospital’s single-room suite.
Chris pushed open the door, and what greeted them was a suite that didn’t look like a hospital room at all. The environment was very good.
This was only natural. Even if he was paralyzed, André was still the eldest son of the Oden family and the grandson of the Gore family. He would receive the necessary care.
As the brothers entered the suite, they could see that it was deserted, with only one person lying on the hospital bed.
Chi Feiran walked in and discovered that, probably due to the resuscitation process, André’s trachea had been cut open.
In other words, the person lying here now, besides being unable to move his body, couldn’t even speak.
André probably heard the sound and opened his eyes, but when he saw the brothers, his expression instantly twisted. He tried to speak but only made a wheezing sound from his throat.
It was Chris’s first time seeing André like this, and he thought it wasn’t bad.
He smiled and said, “André, the banquet tonight was lively. Jeremy’s suit was very nice. Your taste in designers isn’t bad.”
When André heard the name “Jeremy,” the madness in his eyes became even more vivid.
Chris spoke as if chatting with a friend, “The Gore family has given up on you. After all, it’s not worth offending the Bonnet family for a cripple.”
André’s expression turned ferocious, his mouth opening but unable to form complete words, and the nearby monitoring equipment began to sound alarms.
Chi Feiran quietly watched all this. He was never good at enjoying others’ pain, but at this moment, seeing André’s expression, he felt a sense of satisfaction.
Before his brother could speak again, Chi Feiran spoke, “André, this is the retribution you deserve.”
His usually gentle and handsome face now looked cold and stern. “Slowly, everyone will forget about you. No one will come to visit. Jeremy will inherit the Oden family, and the Gore family won’t offend anyone for you, a madman lying paralyzed in bed.”
With each word he spoke, the alarm became louder, clearly indicating that the patient’s condition was worsening.
But Chi Feiran didn’t stop. He continued, “After all, this is what you like, isn’t it? In your eyes, there are no unchanging family members or family ties in this world. And now, it’s time for you to experience it.”
When the alarm was about to drown out his voice, Chi Feiran finally pressed the medical bell to call the doctor.
He adopted the arrogant expression often seen on the faces of the Odens and said word by word, “So, I won’t let you die.”
