SABL Chapter 49

Is Lu Yunye asking him to bid for the opportunity to design the costumes for the two films?

Feiyi has done several film collaborations before, but most of them are small productions. Only two were Lunar New Year films that had good results, but there was no follow-up after the movies were released.

Generally speaking, Feiyi doesn’t even have the qualifications to bid for those two projects.

Of course he wants to accept, and also believes that Feiyi is absolutely capable of designing the costumes. But he heard through the grapevine that Yunye Media also cooperates with several big-name design companies. Is Lu Yunye going to give up the opportunity to cooperate with his old clients?

After getting along for a few months, he knows that Lu Yunye is not someone who will randomly stuff people through the backdoor. But this backdoor was opened a little too obviously.

“I saw your previous products, and the results are pretty good.” Lu Yunye seemed to understand what he was thinking. “Bidding starts next month, and I will reserve a spot for you.”

The implication is that whether Feiyi can win depends on their ability.

But even so, Shi Yi was satisfied. The threshold to participate in such large projects is quite high, and there are strict screening criteria on the company’s history, awards won, past works, and so on.

But at the same time, if they can win either project, the profit will definitely be quite considerable and they will directly earn a share of the movie box office. Furthermore, any movie invested in by Yunye Media has never had a box office result below one billion.

This is undoubtedly great news for Feiyi.

Seeing Shi Yi’s expression change, Lu Yunye smiled and began to slowly spread peanut butter on his bread. “Happy?”

Hearing this, Shi Yi’s face turned red again. The tears in the corners of his eyes hadn’t been wiped clean, but the corners of his mouth couldn’t stop inching up.

“Thank you,” he said, his voice slightly hoarse.

Lu Yunye handed him the bread in his hand, and poured him a glass of warm lemonade. “Moisturize your throat, and drink less irritating things.”

Shi Yi finally nodded. The hairs that were upright were finally smoothed down by Lu Yunye.

“I’ll pick you up after you get off work in the future,” Lu Yunye continued. “If you have an appointment, I’ll also drop you off.”

Shi Yi: “…”

He knew that this was Lu Yunye’s concession. It’s good enough he doesn’t ask to attend the dinners too. Shi Yi could only agree.

Anyway, Lu Yunye is so busy with work, he might give up after persisting for a few days.

——–

Early the next morning, the bidding invitation was sent to Shi Yi’s mailbox. After receiving the contract, Shi Yi immediately held a meeting with his team. All designers were required to attend, to better their chances of winning.

This kind of project is a once in a century event for Feiyi. Fang Huiyi cried on the spot, and several of the designers also had red eyes.

Designers are often unrecognized for their talents, and have nowhere to use their creative energy. After finally getting good resources, Feiyi naturally has to work hard to keep them.

Because of how critical the projects were, Shi Yi personally took part in planning, sorting out past achievements, and preparing the samples. Because the audience and decision makers are experts and award-winning directors, they will pay lots of attention to detail.

After getting off work, he called Lu Yunye, but no one answered the phone. Just as he was hesitating whether he would disturb Lu Yunye and wanted to hang up, the call was picked up.

He seemed to hear someone talking, as if he was in a meeting. Lu Yunye’s voice was very soft as he said, “Twenty minutes.”

Twenty minutes later, Lu Yunye’s car stopped at the entrance to Feiyi on time. The employees looked around, and when they saw Shi Yi coming down the stairs, they simply started cheering.

Anyway, they’re off work and the boss can’t do anything to them.

It was Gao Ren who drove here, and he greeted with a smile, “Young Master Shi.”

Shi Yi greeted him and got into the car. The clothes on Lu Yunye’s body were the same as this morning. His collar was straight, without even a single wrinkle, and he was as serious as a statue.

“Were you in a meeting just now?” Shi Yi asked.

“En, about Shi Jinpeng’s bankruptcy,” Lu Yunye replied.

It was Shi Yi’s turn to be shocked. Shi Jinpeng went bankrupt?

He lost his voice, “When?”

Lu Yunye gave him a suspicious look, as if asking him ‘you didn’t know’?

“It’s still going through liquidation, and hasn’t been officially disclosed.” Lu Yunye’s tone was calm as he explained. “But he has started to transfer the assets under his name, and there are several debts the company needs to settle with him.”

Frankly speaking, because Shi Jinpeng can’t do anything, he planned to take the money and run away.

They’ve only been married for a few months, and Shi Jinpeng even extorted a biomedical project from Lu Yunye on the grounds of their marriage. How could those funds be liquidated so soon?

“It’s the project you gave him.” Shi Yi suddenly realized, and took a deep breath.

Lu Yunye nodded. “The old fox is too greedy, and he can’t pay. Now that he has failed the Phase III clinical trial, he has no money to continue investing in it.”

The project was jointly invested by the Lu and Shi families. The Lu family originally took the lead and managed matters, such as the budget and risk assessment. After Lu Yunye withdrew, Shi Jinpeng had no experience with the project at all – he only saw the huge profit when it exploded.

He used to invest almost all of his net worth in this project, and now not to mention his previous debts, the new debts are even bigger. He could only apply for bankruptcy.

All theaters under the Shi Family have already closed down.

The cinema business built by Shi Jinpeng’s father from scratch was very popular back then. Nowadays, technology is changing rapidly, and his competitors have invested in stereo sound effects and 3D screens. But Shi Jinpeng is a conservative person and has been resting on his laurels. In recent years, there are fewer and fewer visitors and profits have declined, yet he always wants to invest and make a fortune.

The decline of the Shi family was inevitable, but no one expected it to come so soon.

Shi Yi couldn’t describe his mood after hearing the news. He didn’t even feel much joy from getting revenge. After sitting in a daze for a while, there was only peace left.

It felt like, oh, Shi Jinpeng went bankrupt, but what does it have to do with me?

“Then have you got your money back?” Shi Yi asked blankly.

“It’s hard to say, Shi Du has already gone abroad, and Shi Jinpeng will run away sooner or later.” Lu Yunye looked at his dazed expression, and felt distressed for a moment. “How about I find a debt collection company to beat him up? Take off an arm and leg or something.”

Shi Yi burst out laughing, not expecting Lu Yunye to say such a thing. “For that kind of person, there’s no need.”

Anyway, Shi Jinpeng’s debts are not limited to the Lu family. If they don’t move, others will.

———-

Sure enough, a week later, the news that Shi Jinpeng was sued was broadcast.

When Shi Jinpeng was arrested, he was in a mess. His hair was mostly gray, his beard was unkempt, and his eyes were blue. He looked like a savage.

The police found him in Wenxin Lake Park, where he and Shu Wen first met holding a tattered blanket.

Shi Yi recognized at a glance that the blanket was the one Shu Wen often used to cover his legs. Shu Wen was born with a weak body, and often fell ill. When the wind blows, his joints are prone to pain. Even when he sits outside in the sun, he has to cover his legs with a blanket.

When the police tried to take away the blanket to check if there was anything hidden inside, Shi Jinpeng was extremely aggressive. In the end, he was held down by the cops, wriggling on the ground like a poor creature.

The hospital that Shi Jinpeng often visited later issued a certificate of mental illness. After Shu Wen left, tortured by the susceptible period, Shi Jinpeng became violent and cruel, and later on, couldn’t even make decisions for the company.

His lawyer requested for him to be released on bail pending further trial, and for the hearing to be held after his mental condition got better.

Shi Yi stared blankly at the screen. Whether Shi Jinpeng ends up in a mental hospital or in jail has nothing to do with him. There was a sudden emptiness in his heart – the alpha standing above him, crushing him like an ant, suddenly became like this, which was hard to believe.

He was puzzled. Did Shi Jinpeng ever love Shu Wen? Captivity and abuse is not love, so why did he hug his blanket and go to the place where they first met?

What about the suffering he experienced in Shi Jinpeng’s hands?

He took a deep breath and controlled his urge to cry or yell. The tip of the nose was sore as warm tears leaked out from the corners of his eyes.

Suddenly, the tablet held in his hand was taken away. He realized that he was pinching it so tightly that even his fingers were a little cramped.

Immediately afterwards, a big palm landed on the top of his head, and gently rubbed it with reassuring warmth.

Lu Yunye put the tablet on the table and sat down beside Shi Yi, “Don’t look at this.”

“Lu Yunye, do you know?” Shi Yi’s voice was a little trembling. “I used to always think that one day Feiyi would become independent from the Shi family, become rich and go public, and I would swallow all the property of the Shi family. I even wanted to buy Shi Jinpeng’s villa and burned it for my dad.”

Lu Yunye knew it was his emotions talking, and didn’t interrupt.

“Seeing him like this now…” Shi Yi’s voice became lower and lower. “How can this let my dad swallow his anger for more than ten years. I just want to…”

I want to question Shi Jinpeng loudly, since you still miss him, why did you let us suffer those things?

Who’s he trying to show this pathetic look to?

After such a fuss, will there be unsuspecting viewers who are moved by his “affection”? It’s all bullshit!

Lu Yunye didn’t say a word, and lightly embraced Shi Yi into his arms. The omega’s body was very stiff, as if he was tense and refused to relax. Lu Yunye was worried about his muscles cramping, so he patted him on the back lightly like coaxing a child.

“You’ve worked hard all these years, and it was never to seek revenge from Shi Jinpeng.” Lu Yunye spoke, his voice was calm as if carrying some kind of solid strength. Shi Yi lay on his chest, as if hearing the echo of the earth.

Lu Yunye: “You did it all for yourself. You like design, and share the same artistic talent as Uncle Shu. No matter what Shi Jinpeng becomes, he won’t influence your path.”

“You are the best omega I have ever seen.”
