HH Chapter 13

Corpse in the back mountain

The question sitting next to Cheng Ye also wanted to know. He moved his body and turned his ears in the direction of Pei Qinghuai.

Pei Qinghuai’s face remained unchanged, tilting his head slightly. “Police investigation, you don’t need to know too much.”

With that said, Cheng Ye, holding a pen, tightened his grip slightly. After exhaling heavily through his nose, he put the pen back on the table, and this time he spoke before Pei Qinghuai. “Tell me, why did you lie about not knowing Tian Mingwei just now?”

Chen Fei seemed to have a relieved expression on her face as she looked at the two in front of her. “Fear.”

She sniffed. “Do you understand? Tian Mingwei has been coming to me not for days, not for months, but for two years!” Her voice raised slightly. “For two years, he would come almost every day, and every time… every time he would find me and force me to do things I didn’t want to do.”

Cheng Ye’s face darkened, his eyebrows twitched. “Force you? So, when you called out ‘sister’ just now, referring to Chen Li, was she the one instructing you to do this?”

Chen Fei could have refused Tian Mingwei. If it was about money, she didn’t need to use the word ‘force,’ nor would she be so afraid of Tian Mingwei as a person.

Realizing she misspoke, Chen Fei quickly shook her head, and even the eyeliner at the corners of her eyes smudged a little. “No, no, Tian Mingwei is just a pervert. Sometimes he would do things that even if he gave you money, you wouldn’t want to do.”

“Who taught you to lie?” Pei Qinghuai asked, “Concealing information from the police is not a good charge to bear.”

Cheng Ye followed up, “You’re shielding someone!” He smiled. “But it’s useless. If she instigated a minor, and you’re shielding her, I can send both of you in.”

Pei Qinghuai glanced at Cheng Ye, pursing his lips. At this point, Chen Fei seemed a little flustered, hastily waving her hands and shaking her head. “I didn’t, I didn’t. Let me tell the truth.”

After saying this, Chen Fei slumped down, her voice weakly opening up, “It’s just, Tian Mingwei does all sorts of despicable things all day long. We couldn’t bear to watch it. My sister had someone beat him up before. It seemed he ended up in the hospital, but he died within a few weeks. My sister was afraid of causing trouble, so she told us to pretend not to know him.”

Chen Fei lowered her head even more, then raised it again to look at Cheng Ye and Pei Qinghuai. “I’ve said everything I know!”

Cheng Ye straightened up, tidying up the documents on the table. “Do you have any more questions?”

Pei Qinghuai stared at Chen Fei for a while before faintly saying, “No.”

Cheng Ye nodded, standing up. “Let’s go.”

Once the door of the interrogation room closed, Cheng Ye leaned against the wall nearby and asked, “How did you know about Chen Fei’s affairs just now?”

Pei Qinghuai turned around. “At the beginning, when you were interrogating her, Chen Fei would unconsciously touch her neck. Usually, people do this subconsciously to protect themselves when they feel extremely uneasy.”

Cheng Ye stood up straight, looking into the room, and slowly asked, “What’s the significance of their lying?”

Pei Qinghuai smiled faintly. “Perhaps it’s ignorance of the law.”

Cheng Ye paused as he looked at Pei Qinghuai. “What about the rest? How did you know?”

Pei Qinghuai’s face lifted with a smile as he calmly uttered two words, “Guessing.”
