SPDO Chapter 01

On the morning of the end of August, a gentle breeze mixed with the humid heat blew onto the face.

Qin Cheng pedaled his bicycle leisurely toward the school with a lazy expression. He only wore the school uniform pants on the lower body, the top was his own white T-shirt, and a corner of it was blown up by the wind.

The security guard was about to stop him, but when he saw it was him, he symbolically shouted, ‘No riding bicycles on campus’ and ‘Deduct points for not wearing the school uniform’, then turned his head to look at someone else.

The students passing by were discussing gossip excitedly, and Qin Cheng couldn’t help but listen to it as he passed by.

“Right! The new transfer student from class six!”

“He’s an Alpha. I heard he was seated next to Qin Cheng!”

“What? Next to Qin-ge?”

Qin Cheng’s eyebrows jumped.

A transfer student? Their class? Sit with him?

Bullshit.

Since the beginning of high school, he has been sitting alone. He took a leave of absence yesterday, and the class teacher, Lao Xu, still scolded him. It must be someone who is beyond redemption to be placed next to him.

Seeing him, several Omega immediately covered their mouths and greeted him with red faces: “Good morning, Qin-ge.”

Qin Cheng didn’t mind, and said with a smile: “Good morning to you guys too.”

Several people peeked from the side, the Alpha’s jawline had a beautiful curve, a high and straight nose bridge, and deep and profound eyes. There is no need to release pheromones, just his face can make their hearts beat wildly and their legs become weak.

Qin Cheng felt sleepy in the morning and didn’t go to the classroom. He turned and went straight to the restroom on the first floor. The director’s office was on the third floor, and the location where the students of the Fifth High School violated the rules is located on the first floor.

He walked to the innermost part, lit a cigarette, and took a puff. The nicotine invaded his lungs and swept through his nerves, making him feel a bit more energetic.

Morning is the laziest time of the day for him. It was the first day of class for his second year in high school. His biological clock, accustomed to sleeping at two in the morning and waking up at noon, hadn’t quite adjusted yet. Now he was sleepy and annoyed.

To make matters worse, there were still people running into the muzzle.

“Yo! Isn’t this our Xiao Cheng!”

Qin Cheng tilted his head. Zhao Hai and several younger brothers were standing at the door of the restroom, pointing at him aggressively.

For this mentally retarded child who has been wandering in the cycle of challenging him, getting beaten up, challenging him, getting beaten up all year round, Qin Cheng felt that he was also quite awesome. If he puts his energy into studying, he should be able to directly jump to a post-doctoral degree.

Seeing that he didn’t say anything, Zhao Hai smiled ferociously: “Seeing me, Zhao Ge, you don’t even greet me?”

Qin Cheng casually threw the cigarette on the ground, his shoe tip pressing on it. His voice was low due to drowsiness as he glanced at him: “Ah, isn’t this my Zhao’er? See dad coming?”

When the younger brothers saw that the person Zhao Hai was provoking was Qin Cheng, they subconsciously backed away. Zhao Hai, losing face, immediately changed his expression: “Don’t fucking ask for a beating!”

As he spoke, a strong smell of apples with an intimidating pressure violently rushed toward Qin Cheng. The expressions of several weak Alphas around him suddenly turned ugly.

But Zhao Hai’s pheromones are too childish for an Alpha of Qin Cheng’s level. He didn’t react much and even wanted to yawn.

He really laughed every time he smelled this pheromone, and he didn’t hold it back this time. He laughed and said: “My son, your pheromones are also too young and fresh, just like a girl.”

The next second his eyes darkened. The overwhelming smell of damp wood mixed with the indescribable smell of tobacco violently crushed Zhao Hai.

Qin Cheng has deep facial features and thick eyebrows with double eyelids. When he smiles, his eyes squint slightly, giving a friendly look. When not smiling, his facial features appear cold and severe, as if shrouded in shadow, making people tremble at the sight of him.

He maintains good control, and others do not feel the intimidating pressure brought by a top Alpha. Only Zhao Hai was pushed back by the pheromones.

Zhao Hai’s face turned red with shame. Not caring about anything else, he cursed and punched the person with the pheromone.

Qin Cheng turned his head to avoid it. He raised his hand and grabbed Zhao Hai’s wrist, and his knee slammed upwards.

There was a ‘bang’ sound, Zhao Hai covered his stomach and took a few steps back while trembling. His face turned pale in pain, and he knelt on the ground and kept dry-heaving.

Qin Cheng restrained his pheromones and glanced at Zhao Hai. Just as he was about to turn around and leave, a high-pitched ‘Hello, Director!!!’ came into his ears.

He stopped and looked around with a smile. Several ‘loyal’ Zhao Hai’s younger brothers immediately lowered their heads, looking like they didn’t see anything.

Satisfied, Qin Cheng put on an appropriately surprised expression.

When Director Zhao came in, he saw a boy sitting on the ground wailing, surrounded by a group of melon-eating people. Director Zhao was confused: “Who beat people?”

No one said a word for a long time.

Director Zhao had no choice but to name names. He pointed casually with his arm: “You! Say it.”

Qin Cheng glanced along the director’s arm in between eating melon and was stunned.

The male student pointed at by the director looked unfamiliar.

Qin Cheng’s gaze first fell on the crew cut. In the school, those with this haircut were either obedient good boys, or rebellious like him. This student was clearly the latter.

Qin Cheng could give the face that could hold the crew cut a score of nine out of ten. The one point deduction was for the stud on his right ear that made the straight man Qin frown.

Putting this aside, the male student has cold and handsome features, indifferent eyes, and an expressionless face with a cold aura. Qin Cheng almost wanted to whistle for him——Handsome brother, are you sent by the monkey to show off?1你是猴子派来装逼的吗 (nǐ shì hóu zi pài lái zhuāng bī de ma): T/N: The original phrase is 你是猴子派来的救兵吗?, ‘Are you the rescuer who is sent by the monkey?’, from the famous Chinese fiction Journey to the West. The meaning of 装逼 or 装B varies from region to region in China. It can be interpreted as: pretend; boast; brag; bluff. It can refer to the feeling of self-satisfaction using deceptive behavior, such as showing off or pretending to show others the qualities one lacks.

The other person looked at him with an expression that was not very friendly. Qin Cheng was confused, but he didn’t think much about it.

Since childhood, the people who looked at him with unpleasant eyes were too many. It would be too stupid to ask ‘Why don’t you like me’ one by one.

Jian Heng leaned against the door with one hand in his pocket. He glanced at the director, his voice was low and hoarse, with inexplicable displeasure. He pointed his chin in the direction of Qin Cheng and said directly: “He beat people.”

Qin Cheng was stunned. His first reaction was not anger, instead, he wondered what hatred and resentment were there between the two of them. This person must be the reinforcement that Zhao Hai found.

Qin Cheng looked at the director with his head tilted. The director glared at him and said angrily: “Qin Cheng! It’s you again! Roll to the office and find your homeroom teacher!”

Qin Cheng responded with a sound, patted his pants, and walked out. His eyes swept over Jian Heng’s face, silently remembering.

He didn’t want to cause trouble in front of the director. Last time, he insisted on calling his parents, and when his mother was called, he added more fuel to the fire, almost insinuating he was going to kill someone.

The moment he passed by Jian Heng, Qin Cheng smelled a whiff of Alpha pheromone that made his hair stand on end. His heart palpitated violently, and it felt as if all the blood in his body was flowing backward.

He had long legs, and the distance between them was widened in the next second. That feeling of his heart beating wildly was like an illusion, making him irritated for no reason.

In the office, Xu Hua slammed the book loudly: “Qin Cheng, on the first day of the school year, you asked me for a leave of absence, and on the second day, you got into a fight. Do you not want to study anymore? Who promised me last semester that they wouldn’t cause trouble this semester?”

Qin Cheng admitted his mistake with a good attitude: “What you said is right.”

“Right my ass!” Xu Hua glared at him, hating iron for not being steel, “Zhao Hai at least still has time to study, what about you? What else do you know besides playing games? In the future, can you still rely on playing games to support your family?”

Qin Cheng didn’t get angry even when he was scolded. He smiled and nodded: “I think it’s okay. I can make more money by playing games.”

“You’re still talking back!” Xu Hua was so angry that her face turned red. She took a breath before continuing, “I’ve been taking care of you since the first year of high school. Have you ever stopped fighting and beating up people? The reputation of A High School’s school tyrant is good, isn’t it? Everyone was afraid of you and didn’t dare to mess with you, so you are powerful?”

“No, not powerful at all.” Qin Cheng followed her words.

“Stop talking nonsense to me!” Xu Hua looked at him and said, “A new classmate was transferred to our class yesterday. His name is Jiang Heng. There are no empty seats in the class, so I’ll let him sit at the same table with you for a while.”

“Jian Heng is an honor student. Behave yourself for a while, don’t cause trouble, and don’t disrupt his studies. If you dare to mess around, I will have your mom deal with you!”

When Qin Cheng was going to attend class, he was called out and reported by someone.

Moreover, the one who reported him was an unfamiliar person. He didn’t react in front of Lao Xu, but he was burning with anger inside.

Qin Cheng subconsciously looked up as he walked toward his seat and saw a stranger sitting next to his seat.

He didn’t react for a moment.

At first glance, a fierce aura of the same kind rushed towards him. Alpha’s instinct made him pause and subconsciously wanted to release pheromones to fight back.

The feeling of hairs standing on end was all too familiar——it was the guy from the restroom.

He really ended up with a new deskmate, and one with an ill-fated relationship at that.

He resisted his instinct and sat down. The formerly spacious seat was quite crowded——Normally, he would occupy a table and a half by himself, but now that Jian Heng was there, he had to retreat to his own territory.

Two tall and long-legged Alphas sit together. The space suddenly became crowded, with arms squeezing arms and legs pressing against legs.

Qin Cheng was upset and thought distractedly: Something would happen at this distance if it were an Omega. If one sat there for just one day, they would probably have a child.

The Alpha who has just grown up is not mature enough and has a strong sense of territoriality. The aura of the same level is approaching, and some pheromones are subconsciously overflowing in an attempt to fight back.

It wouldn’t affect anyone else, but it was enough to make both of them upset and their blood pressure soar.

Qin Cheng could smell a lingering, damp, cold scent of incense, and based on intuition, he guessed that Jian Heng’s was an extremely rare Alpha pheromone——Incense.

The pheromones that were supposed to be calm and gentle when emitted onto him, turned extremely aggressive. Even a slight accidental release forced Qin Cheng to furrow his brows and exert great effort to restrain himself.

His pheromone is damp wood, that thing burned in incense. In theory, when two such conflicting pure A pheromones clash, it should make him want to beat the other person to a pulp, but the current feeling of rapid heartbeat and blood rushing all over his body is such a fucked up situation.

He has to endure this feeling and sit with Jian Heng for a whole semester. Just thinking about it makes life seem utterly bleak.

If he tells Lao Xu now that he wants to change seats, what posture will Lao Xu use to beat him to death?

Qin Cheng endured it. After enduring it for a while, he reacted, why should Qin-ge indulge him?

Qin-ge does not indulge.

Qin Cheng frowned, his tone not very good, and lowered his voice: “Can you hold back a little? Don’t you feel uncomfortable?”

Jian Heng glanced at him, his emotion unreadable from his cold facial features.

He pulled out a math book from the desk, flipped it open, and wrote a name. The font on the paper was strong and sharp, with an indescribable ferocity.

Qin Cheng’s heart skipped a beat. He provoked him.

“It’s really uncomfortable,” Jian Heng said in a low voice, and his eyes swept over him, “the table is messed up like this, it’s quite impressive.”

“What does it mean?” Qin Cheng’s face completely darkened.

Can’t you talk properly if you have something to say? Looking for a fight?

Jian Heng tilted his head and looked at him. He looked back, and the two people stared at each other. The two pheromones at the top of the biological chain collided fiercely in the air, the sparks were flying around, but they were well-controlled and only affected each other.

“What does it mean?” Jian Heng repeated slowly. His emotion was unstable due to the smell of the other party’s damp wood, and provocation seemed to become an instinct for a short time.

He spun his pen a bit, stared into Qin Cheng’s eyes, and said word by word, “What do you think?”

“If you want to fight, just say so.” Qin Cheng didn’t want to cause trouble but he wasn’t afraid of it either.

Looking at the studs on Jian Heng’s ears, he narrowed his eyes and said, “Don’t dawdle like a bitch.”

It seems that no one has ever said this before. Jian Heng was stunned for a moment, and then his eyes became dangerous, locking Qin Cheng like some kind of wild animal.

Qin Cheng: “You——” Looked barren2瘠薄 (jí báo): T/N: I’m actually a bit confused with this. The original meaning is: barren (not producing vegetation); infertile; (literary) meager; scanty; negligible; barren land; infertile field; impoverished region; impoverished residents. According to netizens, this is Internet buzzword that has nothing to do with the original meaning. It is said this is a dirty words, some says this means ‘dick’, in short, this words challenges the dignity of a man and his intelligence. I’m guessing this is closer to the meaning ‘impotent’, but also imply that the other person’s intelligence is ‘barren’ (lacking)..

“Qin Cheng.” The English teacher pushed up his glasses. Qin Cheng usually didn’t listen in class, but he never disturbed the classroom discipline. What happened today?

Qin Cheng paused. He turned his head and waved his hand to signal that he wasn’t going to speak. Only then did the English teacher continue speaking.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Jian Heng staring at him for a while longer before turning his head. He closed his math book and put it together with his English book, then lay down and adjusted his posture.

Sleeping.

The words that Lao Xu warned him in the office echoed in Qin Cheng’s mind——Jian Heng is an honor student. Behave yourself for a while, don’t cause trouble, and don’t disrupt his studies. If you dare to mess around, I will have your mom deal with you!

…..

So, the big school tyrant and honor student in Lao Xu’s mouth, fell asleep in the first class on the second day after transferring to another school?

This person’s title of honor student was probably earned by threatening the teacher with a knife to change his grades.

Qin Cheng has a lot of things he wants to say but can’t be spoken. He also didn’t know whether it was the smell of incense or simply that this person, Jian Heng, was irritating, but his heart was on fire. He touched his hair irritably, and then he also lay down on the table and started playing with his mobile phone.

A WeChat message came and he tapped it open.

Tan Qi’er: How is your new deskmate? Can you smell the pheromones? The little O’s asked me to ask you what exactly he smelled like.

Qin Cheng frowned in dissatisfaction. A fresh new Alpha just transferred and he couldn’t help but inquire, without even checking the details. Is it because your Qin-ge’s scent lost its appeal?

He couldn’t help but glance to the side. Jian Heng’s profile was distinct, even when sleeping, there was a fierce aura about him. Similar to his pheromones, cold and fierce, it inexplicably made him restless.

After chalking it all up to not liking the look of people, he tapped the screen twice.

Earning Money to Support the Family: Luosifen3螺蛳粉 (luó sī fěn): Luosifen (lit. Snail rice noodle) is a Chinese noodle soup and specialty of Liuzhou, Guangxi. The dish consists of rice noodles boiled and served in a soup. The stock that forms the soup is made by stewing river snails and pork bones for several hours with black cardamom, fennel seed, dried tangerine peel, cassia bark, cloves, white pepper, bay leaf, licorice root, sand ginger, and star anise. It usually does not contain snail meat, but it is instead served with pickled bamboo shoot, pickled green beans, shredded wood ear, fu zhu, fresh green vegetables, peanuts, and chili oil added to the soup. Pickled bamboo shoots add to the famously strong smell of this dish, which may affect men more than women. Luosifen flavored.

There’s no movement over there.

New story yay~ This one isn’t too long, only 62 main chapters and 5 extras. Actually, I haven’t read this either, but the comment is mostly positive and a lot of people said that this story is sweet. The rating is 9.4 at JJWXC, so I have high hopes. Let’s read this together ^^

There are some points I want to clarify here:

  1. For names, if it’s a common one like ‘Brother’ 哥 (gē), ‘Old’ 老 (lǎo), ‘Little’ 小 (xiǎo), and so on, I’ll just leave it as is.
  2. The school is called 中学 (zhōng xué). According to netizens, 中学 comprises both 初中 (chū zhōng), the last three years of the nine-year compulsory education, and 高中 (gāo zhòng), high school. Since our protagonists are both high school students, I opted to translate this as ‘High School’.
  3. The title ‘School Tyrant’ 学霸 (xué bà) means: (neologism, slang) studyholic; brainiac; top student; straight-A student; high achiever; overachiever; academic tyrant. Both Qin Cheng and Jian Heng were called this, but I have a feeling that QC title is because he’s like a tyrant (read: delinquent) instead of because he’s an overachiever, while JH is the real overachiever.

Since I’m trying to reduce footnote, I’ll write the idiom used in this chapter here. If you think tons of footnote is better, please leave a comment or contact me on Discord.
