HH Chapter 32

Butterfly Effect

“Also, I checked her phone call records. She’s only been in contact with Li He for less than three months, so the reason for her behavior probably doesn’t have much to do with him,” Zhang Yibao said, pushing his glasses up his nose. “Here it is, is this what you wanted?”

Cheng Ye looked at the computer and patted Zhang Yibao on the shoulder. “Thanks.”

From the surveillance footage, Guo Rui looked like a frightened rabbit, curled up in a ball as if afraid of being seen. Cheng Ye played the video slowly, watching it several times before suddenly speaking, “Stop!”

“Rewind a bit,” Cheng Ye stared at the computer screen. “Zoom in.”

They were standing at the entrance to the teachers’ office, with their backs to it. Since there were many people around, no one noticed what was behind them.

Liu Lili was standing by the window watching them. Although this wasn’t concrete evidence, Cheng Ye felt a chill spreading in his heart. He minimized the video and watched Guo Rui’s actions frame by frame until he found something unusual.

“Er Bao, look here,” Cheng Ye rewound the video a bit. “When we were talking, didn’t Guo Rui tilt her head at an angle?”

Zhang Yibao leaned in and watched several times before turning to Cheng Ye. “You’re right, Captain Cheng.”

“Pull up the surveillance video from the direction she was looking at, quickly,” Cheng Ye said, his eyes fixed on Guo Rui.

Zhang Yibao rolled up his sleeves and smiled, “No problem!”

“Is Forensic Expert Yan here?” Pei Qinghuai stood at the door, knocking.

Yan Ya looked up. “Yes, come in.”

Seeing it was Pei Qinghuai, Yan Ya put down what she was holding. “What can I do for you, Professor Pei?”

Pei Qinghuai smiled politely, lips pressed together. “I want to take another look at Chen Yuxin’s body.”

Yan Ya stood up. “Did you find something?”

Pei Qinghuai nodded. “I think the wounds on her body are strange.”

“I thought so too,” Yan Ya’s eyes brightened, and she led Pei Qinghuai inside. “But I couldn’t pinpoint exactly what was strange.”

Chen Yuxin lay quietly, her face serene, but the rest of her body was a horrifying sight. Pei Qinghuai examined her from neck to ankle, frowning as if confirming a wild guess.

“Did you find anything, Professor Pei?” Yan Ya asked.

Pei Qinghuai straightened up and looked at Chen Yuxin, speaking slowly. “Her neck, wrists, and ankles have clear ligature marks, and there are multiple whip marks on her body. Doesn’t this remind you of something?”

Yan Ya, puzzled, looked at Pei Qinghuai. “Remind me of what?”

“The Sade phenomenon, also known as sadistic abuse,” Pei Qinghuai said, looking into Yan Ya’s eyes. “But it could also be an indicator of a sexually dysfunctional sadist.”

Yan Ya gasped, her gaze falling on Chen Yuxin’s body, a look of surprise in her eyes. “I didn’t think of that,” she said, then asked, “Why sexually dysfunctional?”

Pei Qinghuai explained with a serious tone, “Although we can’t rule out the possibility of a functional sexual sadist, aside from psychological factors, some sadists have physiological issues, including congenital impotence. They derive sexual pleasure from abusing women.”

“Professor Pei, you know so much,” Yan Ya said, admiration evident in her eyes.
