DPT chapter 29

Let Me Give Up

Coming out of the club was just in time for lunch. Zhang Xiaoyun asked what they wanted to eat. The Omegas unanimously smiled and said anything was fine, leaving it up to the arrangement.

“Sheng Li, what about you?” Zhang Xiaoyun said. “There’s a new private kitchen in the south. Shall we try it?”

Sheng Li was about to agree, but before the word “okay” came out of his mouth, he changed his mind and said, “Let’s go to Qingyue City Grand Hotel.”

“That’s fine too. I have a few bottles of good wine stored there.” These rich kids had eaten everything. Zhang Xiaoyun didn’t mind where they went for dinner. He then turned to the Omega next to him, wrapping his arm around his waist and slipping his fingers under his clothes, “We’re going to drink well tonight.”

Although it was already spring, the weather hadn’t warmed up yet. The cold fingers made the Omega shiver. “Ah.”

Zhang Xiaoyun smiled wickedly, “We’re on the street, what are you getting embarrassed for.”

The omega secretly glanced at Zhang Xiaoyun, feeling lucky to be accompanying Sheng Li today. He then saw that Sheng Li had already gotten into the car and hurriedly followed to open the door of the passenger seat.

Sheng Li raised his eyes, hesitating for two seconds. “Sit in the back and buckle up.”

Arriving at the parking lot of Qingyue City Grand Hotel, the car had already parked in the space, but Sheng Li still hadn’t moved. He looked around as if searching for something.

“…” Zhang Xiaoyun, with sharper eyes, tapped on the car window. “Look, isn’t that Zuo Chi’s Phantom over there? What a coincidence.”

Sheng Li knew Zuo Chi had a dinner appointment in Qingyue City Grand Hotel today. He overheard him making the call in the living room.

He didn’t like Zuo Chi’s businesslike tone when discussing deals, always addressing someone as “Mr. X” and flattering them. Growing up in a family that required socializing, Sheng Li wasn’t unfamiliar with the ways of businessmen. Wasn’t it easy to please people? But he despised it. He didn’t want to become slick and hypocritical.

He also didn’t understand why Zuo Chi worked so hard for his job. In the end, the family business of the Zuo family wouldn’t fall into his hands.

Sheng Li withdrew his gaze and smoothly got out of the car. “What a coincidence.”

Qingyue City Grand Hotel had twenty-six floors, and just the dining area alone had five floors. The chance of encountering Zuo Chi wasn’t that big. Sheng Li was familiar with the management here. Last time he found out which private room Zuo Chi was in, it was because the manager casually told him. It would be dull for him to ask again now.

But sometimes, thinking of a possibility could make it happen. The elevator on the third floor opened, and Sheng Li and his group walked out, bumping into Zuo Chi and his assistant in the lobby.

Sheng Li deliberately put his arm around the shoulders of the petite model, provocatively looking at Zuo Chi.

The model didn’t have many thoughts and assumed Sheng Li needed him for the act, so he put on a cute look, leaning against Sheng Li’s chest and smiling sweetly.

Zuo Chi was conversing with a waiter, and his assistant recognized Sheng Li, awkwardly leaning over to say something to Zuo Chi.

Zhang Xiaoyun lightly nibbled on the ear of the Omega next to him. “We’re in for a show.”

Zuo Chi turned his head, his expression unchanged, but the rise and fall of his chest gave him away. He walked up to Sheng Li, raising the chin of the model with his index finger. “Model?”

The model was surprised at his accurate judgment of people’s character but didn’t know who he really was, so he murmured, “Um.”

“That face is indeed quite beautiful,” Zuo Chi’s lips curved into a smile. “Zhang has a wide network, how about introducing someone suitable to me?”

Zhang Xiaoyun laughed heartily. “Do you still need me to introduce anyone? What kind of person can’t you charm? Remember that female Omega at the bar last time, she was stunning.”

“Really? Are you still in touch with that female Omega?” Sheng Li gritted his teeth, staring at the back of Zuo Chi’s neck. He used scent blockers today, so there was no trace of pheromones leaking out.

Zuo Chi’s eyes flickered. “No, we’re just friends.”

Sheng Li sneered. “You have quite a few friends.”

Zuo Chi retorted, “Not as many as Mr. Sheng.”

Sheng Li implied, “My friends are friends, but are your friends really friends?”

Zhang Xiaoyun, tired of the drama, intervened. “Since we’ve all met here, Zuo Chi, why don’t you join us?”

“No need, enjoy your meal. I have someone else to meet.” Zuo Chi’s gaze shifted between Sheng Li and the model before turning away.

Inside the private room, the Omega was curious. “Who was that?”

“Zuo Chi. Have you heard of the Zuo’s Real Estate?”

The Omega exclaimed, “So prestigious, and he’s so handsome.”

“Hahaha, actually, he’s an Omega. Can you believe it?”

The Omegas present were all surprised.

“An Omega? I thought he was an Alpha.”

“That’s not all.” Zhang Xiaoyun smirked. “He’s also Sheng Li’s fiancé.”

The model gasped, recalling the touch of Zuo Chi’s fingers, and belatedly sensing the subtle atmosphere just now, feeling scared.

Sheng Li sneered. “Don’t worry, he won’t trouble you. Didn’t he praise you for being pretty? Maybe you’re his type.”

The model didn’t dare to speak. “…”

The more Sheng Li thought about it, the angrier he became. He wanted to make Zuo Chi angry, to let Zuo Chi know that he wasn’t done playing.

What kind of reaction was that from Zuo Chi? He kept saying he wanted to marry him, didn’t that mean he liked him? Who, when they saw someone they liked with someone else, could remain so calm?

Did Zuo Chi really like him?

Sheng Li felt a pang in his chest, as if something had been forcibly ripped out of him. He opened a bottle of wine and drank half of it in one go, using alcohol to distract his inexplicable emotions.

“You shouldn’t drink like that.” Though he said that, Zhang Xiaoyun didn’t stop him, letting an Omega pour him some wine and clinking glasses with Sheng Li.

Sheng Li couldn’t remember how much he drank. When the party ended, Zhang Xiaoyun slipped a room key into his hand, then embraced the Omega in his arms and headed upstairs.

Sheng Li passed the room key to the model. The model hesitated. “Young Master Sheng…”

Feeling dizzy from the alcohol, Sheng Li had no desire for sex; he just wanted to find a bed to lie down on. “Want an acting career? I’ll give you a chance to join a production.”

“Tonight?” The model had just signed with the agency, but he knew there was no such thing as a free lunch.

Sheng Li squinted. “There’s only one condition: do as I say on my birthday.”

The model didn’t understand, but nodded and gave his contact information to Sheng Li before taking the room key and leaving. Although Sheng Li had fulfilled many fantasies about Alphas with him, he had a fiancé, and that fiancé didn’t seem easy to provoke.

Sheng Li leaned back in his chair, lost in thought. The door of the private room was pushed open.

He thought it was a waiter coming to clean up, feeling a bit annoyed. “Why didn’t you knock?”

No one spoke, so he lifted his head.

Zuo Chi was sitting quietly in the chair next to him, in the same posture as before, staring motionlessly at the chandelier on the ceiling, lost in thought. The shadow of the chandelier cast a slender shadow on his face, adding a fragile touch.

“Why are you here?”

I’m here to give up. Zuo Chi thought, but he didn’t say it because the model wasn’t here anymore.

So he said, “I’m here to take you home.”

Zuo Chi didn’t drink alcohol. The doctor advised him to drink less, so he only drank when necessary. But business negotiations were not so good without alcohol. The other party thought he lacked sincerity, so he had to say he had just taken cold medicine and managed to avoid being persuaded to drink.

He and his assistant helped Sheng Li into the car, and Zuo Chi first dropped off the assistant at his home before driving back.

The assistant had drunk a lot on his behalf, asking if he was okay to drive alone.

Zuo Chi assured him it was fine and advised him to rest early since they had to work the next day.

Muttering that he didn’t want to work, the assistant reminded Zuo Chi to drive safely.

Sheng Li, somewhat dazed from the alcohol, stared at the assistant’s silhouette as if just noticing him, “Who’s that? Another one of your friends?”

Zuo Chi told the truth, “He’s my assistant.”

Sheng Li sat in the back, restlessly grabbing onto the front seat, “Isn’t your assistant a Beta? Well, well, you even like Betas.”

“…,” Zuo Chi remained silent.

Gender didn’t matter. Zuo Chi thought, even if Sheng Li differentiated into a Beta or Omega, his feelings wouldn’t change.

“You’re very selfish,” Sheng Li, his eyes bloodshot, accused, “If you only have a little liking for me, you should keep it hidden. Why ruin our original relationship by speaking out? You’ve liked so many people, were they more important to you than I am? We could have been friends for a lifetime.”

Zuo Chi’s eyes moistened, murmuring softly, “If only I had just a little liking for you.”

Sheng Li didn’t hear clearly, “Hm?”

Zuo Chi sniffed, “Don’t think too much, just go to sleep.”

Zuo Chi wasn’t a stranger to taking care of a drunk person. He helped Sheng Li to the bedroom, wiping his face, taking off his shoes, and covering him with a blanket. After fussing over him for a while, Zuo Chi took a shower himself, but found he couldn’t sleep.

The patch had been removed, and he lightly touched the smooth skin on the back of his neck. The vague teeth marks had long disappeared. He once hoped to be marked, a binding between AOs different from marriage.

He knew marriage couldn’t tie down Sheng Li.

Thinking of the Omega nestled in Sheng Li’s arms earlier, Zuo Chi recalled the delicate face of the little model, feeling both envy and resentment.

A voice told him: This is what an Omega, as Sheng Li described, should look like. Perhaps he would never learn.

He didn’t delude himself into thinking Sheng Li would settle down after sleeping with him once. What capability did he have? Sexual skills? It was just that the impact witnessed firsthand was stronger than he had imagined.

When they were friends, he told himself not to be jealous because he wasn’t qualified. Now that they were engaged, he found he still wasn’t qualified. Yet just the thought of Sheng Li possibly holding hands, kissing, or going to bed with someone else made him feel like he was dying.

He wanted to slap that delicate face, telling him not to covet his Alpha. But he knew too well, the biggest fault wasn’t with other Omegas.

It was him, forcing things. He overestimated himself, thinking that with enough time, Sheng Li’s gaze would eventually fall on him. It felt like running in the mist, circling back only to find he couldn’t even find the initial path.

Where did the Sheng Li who had once been so good to him go?

If he persisted, if he married Sheng Li, maybe they could maintain a marriage for a lifetime. But was such a lifetime fortunate or unfortunate?
