HH Chapter 53

Mysterious Letter

“Do we really need to ask about this?” Li Cheng looked a bit guilty.

“Which one?” Fang Yuan tapped the table and asked.

Li Cheng frowned, clicked his tongue, and thought to himself, “Whatever happens, happens.” He opened his mouth and said, “Red Charm…”

Cheng Ye and Fang Yuan were both stunned and asked each other, “Is there a bar called Red Charm?”

Fang Yuan pursed his lips and shook his head, “I don’t know.”

“I know you might suspect me, but although I have a bit of a weakness for women, I wouldn’t do something like murder.” Li Cheng looked surprisingly compliant at this moment.

“Red Charm is an underground bar where those kinds of things happen, so I didn’t dare to say it.” Li Cheng chuckled awkwardly.

“What kind of things!” Fang Yuan suddenly blurted out, surprising both Cheng Ye and Li Cheng.

However, in Fang Yuan’s mind, he immediately associated it with drugs. The more he thought about it, the darker his expression became. He looked at Li Cheng and asked again, “What kind of things?”

Cheng Ye turned his head, cleared his throat several times, and Fang Yuan turned to him, “Captain Cheng, is your throat okay? Do you need some medicine later?”

Li Cheng couldn’t help but laugh, but Fang Yuan immediately glared back at him, “What are you laughing at? You haven’t said what kind of things yet.”

Cheng Ye squinted one eye, thinking that Fang Yuan, usually quick-witted, seemed out of it today. He pulled Fang Yuan over and whispered something in his ear, then stood up, “Thanks for your cooperation.”

As they were about to leave, Fang Yuan’s face was flushed red. He frowned slightly and looked at Li Cheng, “Next time, make things clear!”

Li Cheng unwillingly smiled, “Got it, got it.”

They searched for the address of Red Charm on the map and found it tucked away in a remote corner. After checking the surveillance, it turned out Li Cheng wasn’t lying. However, they couldn’t feel happy about it as the clue had once again gone cold.

Back at the station, they slumped in their seats like wilted eggplants. After a minute, Cheng Ye seemed to notice something and turned to ask Chen Xiaonuan, “Where are Zhang Yibao and Pei Qinghuai?”

Chen Xiaonuan looked up, “Teacher Pei seems to have discovered something and went to Chen Mengyao’s house.”

“He went to Chen Mengyao’s house and took Zhang Yibao without me?” Cheng Ye leaned back in his chair, looking dejected.

Chen Xiaonuan, munching on a cookie, said, “You went to the kindergarten without taking Teacher Pei.”

Fang Yuan, caught in the middle, looked left and right, feeling wronged, “Great, now I’m the bad guy.”

“Hey!” Cheng Ye winked at Fang Yuan, “How could that be? You’re our backbone.”

Jiang Fei chimed in, “Our backbone and master speaker. Come on, have a seat, don’t tire yourself out.”

Fang Yuan, seeing Jiang Fei’s smug look, snatched the food from his hand. Jiang Fei protested immediately, “You have your own on your desk!”

Fang Yuan swallowed Jiang Fei’s cookie in one bite, “Hey! I just love eating other people’s stuff! Come and get it!”

As they were messing around, Yan Ya came out from the back with a lab report, “Cheng Xiaoxiao’s test results are out. No traces of poison, everything’s normal.”

The previously lively atmosphere quieted down for a few seconds. Fang Yuan swallowed the cookie, sat back down, and said, “Looks like Pei Qinghuai was probably right.”

Cheng Ye clicked his tongue, raising an eyebrow at Fang Yuan, “Call him Teacher Pei.”

Fang Yuan was stunned, his double chin showing in surprise, “Why don’t you call him that, Captain Cheng?”

“I’m the captain!” Cheng Ye lifted his chin and said.
