ABV Chapter 88.1

The not peaceful night

On the sixth day of “Stars in Military Uniform”, the male guest’s long-awaited shooting training happened. This is the only day they can touch live firearms, and although the guns will be filled with blanks, everyone was still very excited.

However, before touching live ammunition, they had theory classes and empty gun aiming training.

Finally they were able to experience live ammunition shooting. There were two types of shooting: prone and offhand. After theory class, the guests were pulled to the shooting range to practice aiming at 100-meters.

Prone shooting does not require as much arm strength as standing, but the shooter needs to firmly hold the handle and keep the butt of the rifle tight against their shoulders while they lay down.

“The recoil of the rifle is very strong. If you don’t hold it tight, you may be injured when shooting.” The shooting instructor explained and gave instructions one by one. “So, when aiming, your arms cannot relax, and you need to grip your gun forcefully… No, the index finger on the trigger should be relaxed, but the hand holding the gun cannot loosen… Tsk, don’t loosen everything!”

Jiang Qiulin’s face was helpless: “I can’t separate the two. It’s either all fingers are tight, or all of them relax…”

The instructor was also quite speechless. “You can’t hold the gun steady like this.”

Jiang Qiulin wasn’t the only one holding the gun incorrectly. Of course the instructor couldn’t grade the star class with the same standards as soldiers either.

After lying down and holding the gun for a while and correcting their posture, the instructor then asked the guests to stand up and wait in the back.

The instructor stepped forward, loaded a rifle with ammunition, and called the guests to come forward to practice.

Chu Yinlong stepped forward, lay down behind the bunker, and held the rifle tightly. Beside him, the class instructor squatted on the right, and the shooting instructor stood behind the left, protectively, not leaving any chance for the guests to have accidents.

Of course, this was also specially requested by the program team for safety reasons.

Chu Yinlong held his breath, aimed at the bullseye in the distance, and slowly pulled the trigger—

Bang!

There was an instant loud noise in the shooting range, scaring several guests who were waiting behind to cover their ears.

“My god! Gunshots are so loud?!” Yi Bailu almost shrank behind Sun Qi.

“This sound is much more powerful than a cannonball…” Cheng Zhiyi also sighed.

“…It’s over, I’m suddenly a little scared.” Zhang Xiaoyuan suddenly collapsed.

After firing five bullets, Chu Yinlong was still a little unfulfilled. He stood up reluctantly, raised his hand and rubbed his ears.

The little soldier reporting targets ran to the target, put on a new target sheet, and ran back quickly, handing Chu Yinlong’s target paper to him.

Chu Yinlong glanced at it and coughed slightly awkwardly.

Jiang Dao was not afraid to offend him, and asked with a smile, “How is it, Teacher Chu? How did you do?”

Chu Yinlong didn’t hide it. He reluctantly showed the target paper in front of the camera and the guests – on the human-shaped target paper, the bullet holes were almost distributed in the corners, adding up to a total of 36 rings.

“It’s pretty good,” the instructor said. “As the first time you’ve touched live ammunition, it’s good if you don’t miss the target.”

“En, I practiced holding guns when I was shooting a movie before.” Chu Yinlong said, folded the target paper and put it in his pocket.

After that, Jiang Qiulin came on the field and explained why the instructor said “it’s good if you don’t miss the target” very “cooperatively” – there were only three bullet holes on his target paper, and the two other bullets missed completely.

Cheng Zhiyi performed similarly. Due to his lack of strength in holding the gun, the recoil could not be controlled, and only two bullets hit the target.

Next, it was Jiang Dao’s turn. He lay on the ground that was a little warm from the sun, held the rifle, and habitually put the butt of the gun against his shoulder, resting his cheek on the hand holding the gun.

Looking through the gap, the crosshair, and the bullseye, he hesitated for a moment, but instead of firing, he looked back at Chu Yinlong.

Chu Yinlong stood behind and waved his fist at him: “Come on!”

So… should he show his true strength?

Or, continue to secretly release water like when he played darts on the show last time?

Playing darts well can be said to be the result of daily practice, but how can he explain it if he gets good results on his “first” shot?

Logically, Jiang Dao understood that he should hide his clumsiness, and a score similar to Chu Yinlong’s is enough.

But he had some expectations in his heart, wanting to show a more complete and dazzling self in front of Chu Yinlong. Even if it arouses curiosity and suspicion, he doesn’t want to hide his true self in a place where the other party can’t see it.

“Don’t be afraid.” Next to him, the instructor thought that Jiang Dao was afraid of the gunshots, so he encouraged him in a low voice, “It’s nothing to be afraid of.”

Jiang Dao curled the corner of his mouth and smiled at the instructor: “Thank you.”

After his words fell, he turned his gaze back. His eyes were sharp as he aimed straight at the target along the gap of the front sight, slightly retracted his index finger, and pulled the trigger.

Boom!

A gunshot exploded. Jiang Dao’s face was calm, and he fired the remaining four bullets in succession.

Soon, the target reporting soldier ran back with a shocked face holding Jiang Dao’s target.

Jiang Dao picked up the target paper and proudly showed it to Chu Yinlong – two shots hit the head with ten rings, two shots hit the chest with ten rings, and one shot was slightly off, hitting the left chest at nine rings.

“Oh, 49 rings, this is an excellent result in the army!” The shooting instructor couldn’t help marveling.

The class instructor’s gaze roamed around the five bullet holes, then looked at Jiang Dao, and finally praised lightly: “Very good.”

“How did you do this?!”

“If I said it was a blind shot, would you believe me?” Jiang Dao asked with a smile.

“I definitely don’t believe it!” Cheng Zhiyi curled his lips. “Did you go to some club and practice shooting?”

“Guess?” Jiang Dao didn’t answer directly.

Not far away, Sun Qi’s eyes moved away from the target paper and landed on Jiang Dao. The heat in her eyes seemed to increase a little bit.

She was about to go up and say something when she saw Jiang Dao fold the target paper, and turn to Chu Yinlong with a bright smile: “Teacher Chu, how is it? Are you surprised?”

Chu Yinlong smiled helplessly. He seemed to want to reach out and rub Jiang Dao’s head, but in the end he patted him on the shoulder: “You mean am I surprised or shocked? When did you learn to shoot?”

Jiang Dao smiled and winked at Chu Yinlong: “Guess?”

Sun Qi paused for a moment, then looked at Wu Rui.

Wu Rui shrugged and spread her hands, giving her an “I don’t know” look.

Soon, the male guests finished shooting, and it was the female guests’ turn.

This time it was even more joyful – Zhang Xiaoyuan was afraid of the sound of gunfire, she closed her eyes as she pressed the trigger. After shooting all five bullets, she turned her head and ran away; there was not a single bullet hole on the target paper. Sun Qi was not afraid, her posture was standard as she shot five bullets with a cold face, but not a bullet hole landed either. Yi Bailu had little strength – she couldn’t withstand the recoil and ended up crying. When she opened her neckline, they found that her shoulders were red…

Fortunately, Wu Rui saved some face for the female guests. Four of her bullets hit the target, and she scored a total of 29 rings, ranking third.

After the shooting training was complete, the morning training was over.

On the way to the cafeteria, the shooting instructor was still chatting with the class instructor: “I have to say, Jiang Dao’s hand is really stable. Very few people can hit a target like this for the first time…”

“I’m afraid it’s not his first time.” The class instructor shook his head and said, “Do you still remember his shooting? The only shot that veered to the left should be a test shot. The wind was blowing quite hard today, so he missed the first shot by a little bit. The remaining four shots in the ten rings on the head and chest, that is to say, in the subsequent four shots, he adjusted his aim at least once, and there was no mistake.”

The class instructor smiled and continued: “Good marksmanship is almost always fed by bullets, unless he is really a shooting genius. But I was not surprised at his results, and am more inclined that he has practiced shooting.”

Hearing this, the shooting instructor nodded: “That’s right, there are many rich people in the entertainment industry, and there are  shooting clubs outside, so it’s not surprising if he’s practiced.”

The afternoon’s standing, or off-hand, position has higher requirements on physical fitness and strength. The empty gun used to train their posture weighs almost two pounds. Their arms cannot loosen and must be steady when holding the gun. While the recoil is a little less than a rifle, both arm strength and grip strength will be tested.

Fortunately, the star class was only training for a ten-meter target. The distance was closer, and the target paper was still humanoid, but everyone’s results were generally better than in the morning. Jiang Dao even won a perfect score of fifty rings with five bullets in one fell swoop.

According to the instructor, if a recruit achieves such a score, they will be awarded certificates and commendations.

“Hey, why don’t we hold a commendation ceremony for you as well?” Cheng Zhiyi leaned on Jiang Dao’s shoulder and said with a smile, “After dinner, let’s organize something in the tent? I’ll draw you a certificate.”

“Forget it!” Jiang Dao slapped him away in disgust and smiled, “I don’t need this.”

After all, based on the number of times he’s “practiced” shooting, let alone compared with the people in the star class, even if he was thrown amongst army recruits, he would be able to walk sideways. He used to hit “moving targets” on the battlefield. Some mutant beasts had thick and tough carapaces, and oftentimes several shots at the same spot were required to complete the kill.

In contrast, standing still and shooting a fixed target in a comfortable environment isn’t a challenge, and he was little embarrassed to receive a commendation.

Next, came the entertainment competition that everyone looked forward to.

Today’s game is of course also about shooting, of course, not with live ammunition guns, but with water guns.

Yay, JD finally gets to show off his shooting skills
