PTYS Chapter 118

The Deadly G City

Xiao Muyu frowned but said nothing. Everyone knew that survival was paramount in this world, but pushing people out directly was still unsettling.

Despite the dungeon not restricting card usage, Xiao Muyu discovered she couldn’t use her cards. She even suspected that the “Loving Family” card had also failed.

Not only Xiao Muyu but the others in the elevator were also surprised. However, they quickly calmed down, except for the remaining doctor, who widened his eyes and turned pale, shouting in despair, “What are you doing, you bastards!”

One of the men shot a cold glance at the doctor, dragged him back, and pressed him against the elevator wall, threatening in a low voice, “Keep talking and you’ll join them.”

The doctor’s face turned red from being choked, unable to utter a word.

The elevator doors closed again under the efforts of one of the men, blocking the zombies with the bodies of the two nurses. As a horde of zombies rushed towards them, the doors barely shut in time.

The situation had been incredibly dangerous. After the doors closed, the man who had been choking the doctor suddenly let go, collapsing against the elevator wall, gasping for air.

The doctor fell to the ground, coughing violently, his eyes filled with both rage and fear. “You beast, you animal.”

The man looked down at him fiercely, raising his fist to strike, but Xiao Muyu intervened, speaking softly, “Enough. Is this really the time for this?”

The man glanced at her, his triangular eyes filled with malice. “Don’t pretend to be a saint. They’re just characters. Mind your own business.”

Despite his words, he didn’t strike again. Xiao Muyu didn’t argue, remaining silent. She looked down at the doctor, and when their eyes met, she shook her head slightly.

The doctor shrank into the corner, looking at her before biting his lip and staying silent, though his eyes stayed fixed on the two men who had pushed his colleagues out.

The situation remained precarious. Xiao Muyu quickly instructed, “From what we’ve seen, the elevator will likely stop on every floor. Stay alert. Pushing people out is pointless; we might not get another chance to close the doors.”

The two men glanced at her, their expressions tense and grim. The short-haired woman prepared herself, and soon, the elevator doors opened again.

As expected, the elevator doors opened to a foul stench. A corpse lay just three steps from the elevator, clearly once a patient.

Xiao Muyu acted decisively. As soon as there was a gap, she squeezed out. The people in the elevator were momentarily stunned.

But only for a moment. The short-haired woman quickly followed her out. When the doors fully opened, three zombies in white lab coats rushed towards the elevator.

The ding of the elevator had alerted them, and they charged towards the opening, their excited growls drawing more zombies from nearby. All of them started converging on the elevator.

Xiao Muyu noticed their slower speed compared to the zombies in the surgical ward. Seizing the moment, she kicked one zombie in the back, knocking it down and blocking two others, buying time for those in the elevator.

Without waiting, Xiao Muyu moved swiftly towards a nearby patient room. It was open, and a quick survey showed it was empty.

She rushed in, grabbed the metal hook for IV bags from the ceiling, jumped onto the bed, and snapped off the plastic wheels.

She worked quickly and efficiently, soon holding two metal rods. A glance confirmed that most of her cards were still unusable.

Grim-faced, she swung the metal rod at a zombie that had followed the noise, striking its head hard enough to dislodge it.

The rod was sturdy, and she continued to hit until the zombie’s head was half destroyed. Remembering something from the news, she thrust the rod into its neck, severing its spinal cord. The zombie stopped moving.

Seeing the short-haired woman approaching, Xiao Muyu noticed she had also grabbed a rod and fought off a zombie in her room. Together, they returned to the elevator area.

There, three zombies had been knocked down, attracting a new wave. They had to split up and run.

The doctor and the woman Xiao Muyu had pulled into the elevator ran towards her. In seconds, Xiao Muyu scanned them for injuries, relieved to find none.

She tossed the doctor a metal rod. As he caught it clumsily, she swung another rod, knocking a zombie down. “If you don’t want to die, start fighting. As long as they don’t scratch you, there’s still a chance.”

The doctor, now determined, used the rod to strike a zombie. Seeing how simple it was to kill it, he regained some confidence.

Xiao Muyu dealt with two zombies and said, “Enough. Stay quiet, or you’ll attract more.”

The sound of approaching zombies grew louder. “Sever their brain-spinal cord connection. You’re a doctor; you should know how.”

Scanning the corridor, she noted the increasing danger. The elevator area was overrun, and they had no chance to close the doors.

Realizing they couldn’t wait for the elevator, she made a quick decision. “Run forward!”

Trusting her, the doctor followed, fighting off zombies as they went. He revealed another exit plan: a side door on the fourth floor leading to a staff elevator.

With this new plan, they fought their way forward. Despite the danger and exhaustion, they managed to avoid injury.

The short-haired woman also noticed that the room doors couldn’t lock, quickly dispatching a zombie and rejoining them.

Seeing no other option, Xiao Muyu led them towards the side door, hoping it would provide a safer exit.

Seeing Xiao Muyu decisively follow up and help fend off the pursuing zombies, the four of them fought their way through the corridor. Xiao Muyu didn’t dare to trust strangers with her back, remaining highly vigilant.

She couldn’t help but think of Shen Qingqiu, wondering how she was doing. If Shen were there, she wouldn’t have to worry about anything.

When the four reached the so-called corner, the zombies’ roars suddenly became excited, followed by a man’s angry and terrified shout.

“Bastard, Zhou Zuo, I will kill you! Ah! Even as a ghost, I won’t let you go, ah!” The curses were quickly drowned out by screams and zombie growls.

At the same time, people from the opposite corridor ran out, but only two remained, with one man missing.

“Player Xu Tao has been eliminated. Player Xu Tao has been eliminated!”

This sudden announcement made everyone’s hearts jolt, even causing the escaping man’s steps to falter.

Xiao Muyu instantly understood what had happened. Anyone who could so readily push an NPC to their death could also push a teammate at a critical moment!

This broadcast heightened the terror to its peak; witnessing another’s death intensified the fear for those in the same situation.

But Xiao Muyu also breathed a sigh of relief—Shen Qingqiu and the others were fine. In this chaotic mess, that was the only good news.

Xiao Muyu didn’t pause; in fact, she didn’t want to team up with such people. Those who backstabbed others were scarier than zombies.

“Bastard!” The male doctor ran desperately, still cursing.

Xiao Muyu, the short-haired woman, and he, wielding three iron bars, quickly killed any zombies they encountered.

The doctor pulled out his badge and almost threw himself at the door, quickly swiping to open it.

With a click, Xiao Muyu grabbed the handle and pulled it open. The two behind her turned pale and shouted, “Wait for us, don’t close the door!”

“Don’t close the door!” The man, now incredibly fearful, had shifted from pleading to ferocity.

Xiao Muyu glanced at him and then at the woman running beside him, her lips pursed. She said nothing.

The doctor stared at him, then turned to the woman next to him. He held the door for a moment, allowing the two to rush in at the last moment.

The door slammed shut, zombies pounding against it, their gaping mouths and bloody faces visible through the frosted glass.

This close encounter forced everyone to step back several paces.

As players who had gone through previous scenarios, they could endure the fear despite it being terrifying. But the two locals turned pale and immediately threw up.

Previously suppressed by the fear of death, the nausea and fear overwhelmed them now that they relaxed.

“Thank you.” The female player, having survived the ordeal, thanked Xiao Muyu and the others.

The doctor turned away, silent.

“Hurry up, let’s go.” Xiao Muyu didn’t want to dwell on it; she needed to reunite with Shen Qingqiu.

This floor was quiet. The group finally made it to the elevator and successfully reached the ground floor.

The doors opened, and Xiao Muyu stepped out, cautiously surveying the area, signaling the others to stay quiet.

There was movement in the nearby radiology department, shadows flickering, clearly not human.

As they approached the hospital’s side door, their hearts sank further. The situation outside wasn’t any better than inside the hospital; the streets were filled with zombies.

Xiao Muyu turned to the group, speaking softly, “We all need to find our own friends and family. Let’s part ways here. A larger group is more conspicuous. Take care.”

The doctor hastily said, “Miss Xiao, can I follow you?”

Xiao Muyu was taken aback, pausing before nodding. “Okay, but I won’t carry dead weight. If you cause trouble, I’ll leave you behind without hesitation. Understand?”

The doctor nodded, and the silent woman looked lost but said nothing.

Xiao Muyu told her, “He saved you with his life, so I helped you. But your survival depends on you.”

With that, she coldly glanced at the others and left without another word.

The remaining group had varied expressions. The short-haired woman looked at Xiao Muyu but said nothing.

Xiao Muyu and the doctor, Lin Jian, carefully crossed the street, avoiding the wandering zombies.

Cars were scattered everywhere, some overturned. The city’s vitality was completely erased, leaving only the zombies’ roars.

Suddenly, a car exploded with a loud bang, drawing all the zombies on the street towards it, their numbers terrifying.

Xiao Muyu and Lin Jian quickly ducked behind a car.

The zombies roared around the car’s wreckage, becoming more frenzied when they found no fresh flesh.

But soon, all the zombies turned their heads, silently focused on something, then shuffled in one direction.

Xiao Muyu’s heart sank. “Hurry, let’s go!”

Lin Jian, confused, asked, “Where?”

“Follow them.”

“What?” He stared, bewildered. Was she crazy?
