Chapter 7: Demolition Work
Houzuki always just watched.
Gorigori, gorigori. (TN:crunch x4)
Guchya, gori.(TN: probably more crunch)
Boki~. (TN: possibly even more crunch)
Buchibuchi, buchi.(TN: tearing sound)
She simply watched as Yuiru dismantled the faux police officer with his silver knife, and ate his meal with such relish.
She had grown accustomed to his meals.
Though the sounds were unpleasant, Yuiru’s dining scene was always tidy. He dismantled the ghosts with his silver knife, consuming them without leaving a single bone fragment behind.
“What’s the flavor this time?”
“It’s Western cuisine.”
Yuiru replied as he devoured the faux police officer’s leg.
“It seems to be a dish made with tomatoes. Omelette rice, spaghetti Neapolitan, meat sauce… All of them are delicious.”
“I see.”
It was hard to imagine that ghosts tasted the same as what Houzuki ate, but well, Yuiru had his own taste buds. There was nothing Houzuki could do but offer a vague agreement.
Yuiru also never urged Houzuki to eat ghosts.
He knew she couldn’t. Besides, he didn’t bother pretending to share his captured meals.
“This place is going to be dismantled too, huh?”
Houzuki murmured as she surveyed the decaying police box.
“If the interfering ghosts disappear, we can get rid of this building too.”
“The same reason for the old school building?”
“That’s right.”
Yuiru plunged the silver knife into the faux police officer’s neck, skillfully dismantling him as he answered Houzuki’s question.
“The ghost in the old school building isn’t me. I’m just bound there.”
“But you don’t go to the old school building anymore.”
“Of course not. By devouring ghosts and gaining power, I’ve become a… hmm, a slightly lower-tier evil spirit compared to the ghosts in the old school building.”
“That’s modest of you.”
Yuiru, who usually tended to overestimate himself, admitted that the ghosts in the old school building were stronger than him. This was clear evidence that the ghosts in the old school building were indeed powerful.
However, Houzuki didn’t know about the ghost in the old school building. Until now, she had thought that Yuiru was that ghost, but it seemed she was mistaken.
As Yuiru carried the remaining faux police officer towards his mouth, he remarked, “I can’t quite figure out the ghost in the old school building. It’s neither male nor female. It’s that kind of existence. But it has the power to take over my body.”
“Is your body safe?”
“It might be, but then again, it might not be.”
Giving a terribly ambiguous answer, Yuiru continued, “I don’t know much about the old school building. But if the opponent is a ghost, I should be able to eat it once I gain enough power. There’s nothing I can’t eat, not even a malevolent deity.”
“You’re back to your usual confident self.”
Houzuki sighed softly, observing Yuiru’s self-assured demeanor.
But still, what exactly is the ghost in the old school building?
And who does it refer to?
☆
The next day, the police station was being demolished by construction workers.
It seemed the station was considered a nuisance to the town.
Then, if they were to deal with the ghost in the old school building, would it also be demolished like the police station?
“Can it be destroyed?”
Houzuki murmured quietly, watching the station being dismantled.
