ICAWZ Chapter 109

ARC 3: Urging marriage

Hawke had a bad feeling. He quickly stepped forward and rang the doorbell. He had heard that several high-ranking generals from the military were coming to visit Faeus today. Could there have been some kind of conflict?!

“Ding-dong——!”

“Ding-dong——!”

The urgent ringing of the doorbell, though somewhat untimely, broke the stalemate that had just formed. Everyone instinctively looked towards the door, unable to understand who would come at this moment. In the end, it was Faeus who stood up, kicked aside the shattered pieces of the vase at his feet, and walked straight over to open the door.

Faeus initially thought it was the doctor delivering the blood test results for Agu. However, upon opening the door, he found it was Hawke, causing him to frown. “Why are you here?” he asked.

Hawke discreetly glanced inside and saw General Wesley sitting on the sofa with a grim expression. The floor was covered in shattered glass shards. He thought they must have had a fight just now and inwardly cursed his bad timing for showing up. Steeling himself, he said, “Leader, I’m here to deliver the test report. The purity test results for His Excellency’s blood are ready.”

Hawke used to refer to Xu Cenfeng as “that interstellar pirate” or “that male zerg,” so switching to “Your Excellency” felt somewhat unfamiliar.

Faeus frowned. “Who’s ‘Your Excellency’?”

Hawke’s voice suddenly became impassioned. “Leader, I mean His Excellency Xu Cenfeng, of course!”

He held a paper report of the blood test in his hand. After speaking, he took a quick step towards Faeus, scrutinizing the report with nervous fingers. As if presenting a treasure, he offered the report urgently in front of him, urging, “Leader! Look quickly!”

Upon hearing it was Xu Cenfeng’s blood test report, Faeus couldn’t help but pause momentarily. He quickly grasped the report from Hawke’s hand and saw the data column below clearly stating 100%. His expression changed instantly.

It really is 100%?!

Although Faeus had guessed since the day he was marked that his blood purity was definitely more than 35%, and most likely extremely high, seeing the report still surprised him momentarily.

The western environment is much richer than the North. There have only been two pureblood male zergs, and Hill’s purity of over fifty percent has already been greatly celebrated. Now, out of nowhere, there is one that is one hundred percent.

Hawke was so excited that he could hardly articulate himself: “Leader! 100%! A blood purity of 100%! We finally have a pureblood male zerg in the North! No need to envy those zergs in the West anymore!”

The Zerg God has finally awakened!!!

Upon hearing this, Faeus’ expression fluctuated, unconsciously tightening his grip on the report, lost in thought. However, female zergs generally have keen hearing, and coupled with Hawke not deliberately lowering his voice earlier, General Wesley seated on the sofa heard much of their conversation. This startled them, causing both to rise from the sofa simultaneously.

“What did you say? A pureblood male zerg?!”

General Wesley was the first to step forward, swiftly pulling the paper report from Faeus’ hand. After scrutinizing the data, he looked at Hawke with a mix of astonishment and surprise. “Who exactly is this male zerg?!”

Hawke swallowed hard, his voice trembling slightly as he cautiously pointed behind him. “It’s His Excellency—”

Following his gesture, everyone instinctively turned towards the second floor. There, at the staircase landing, stood a tall figure with a slender silhouette, black hair, dark eyes, and fair skin. It was unmistakably the western male zerg that the leader had won from the arena.

General Wesley didn’t recognize Xu Cenfeng, so he was surprised to discover a male zerg in Faeus’ household. His tone reflected his astonishment, “Who is he?!”

Xu Cenfeng hadn’t planned on revealing himself earlier, but upon hearing Faeus start to speak up, and fearing things might get out of hand, he decided to step forward.

Most of these military generals are stubborn and traditional in temperament. Their visit today is undoubtedly aimed at pressuring Faeus to apologize publicly and appease the angry civilian female zergs in the slums.

However, Faeus is defiant and will never bow down and apologize. This situation may end up in a heated standoff without any resolution.

Xu Cenfeng walked down from the second floor, dispelling the shadow behind him, his features unmistakable under the lamplight. The northern generals present were collectively startled, reminded of the first appearance of the pureblood male zerg in the West, which also had black hair and dark eyes.

Faeus was surprised by Xu Cenfeng’s sudden descent from upstairs. He furrowed his brow, extinguishing the cigarette near its end with a pinch, then walked briskly to stand in front of Xu Cenfeng, blocking the curious gazes behind him.

“Who allowed you to come down? Go back upstairs!”

Those old folks from the military are all cunning in their own way. Outside, the civilians are causing a ruckus over Hill’s actions, and now Xu Cenfeng’s blood purity has been exposed. It’s clear they’ll use Xu Cenfeng to divert attention and shield themselves.

After Faeus finished speaking, he directly grabbed Xu Cenfeng’s arm, intending to lead him back upstairs. However, Xu Cenfeng remained motionless and instead pressed Faeus’ hand back. “I don’t want to go back right now.”

Faeus narrowed his eyes coldly at Xu Cenfeng’s words, thinking to himself that this male zerg was really going against the grain. Had they conspired beforehand? Why were they all coming to him one by one to rebel?!

Xu Cenfeng could clearly sense Faeus’ anger, but he remained composed, shaking his head subtly. In a voice audible only to the two of them, he said, “It’s okay, nothing will happen. I’ll just say a few words.”

After finishing his words, he gently freed himself from Faeus’ grasp and casually scanned the surroundings. His gaze finally settled on General Wesley, who held the highest military rank present. Xu Cenfeng walked directly towards him.

“General Wesley.”

His tone was polite and respectful.

General Wesley looked somewhat puzzled but nodded politely in return. “Your Excellency.”

Xu Cenfeng smiled gently. “I apologize. I happened to overhear your conversation upstairs just now. I hope you don’t mind.”

General Wesley didn’t mind this at all. The situation with the male zergs in Hossburgh had already reached absurd levels, so overhearing a conversation was nothing compared to that. Besides, Xu Cenfeng’s blood purity was 100%.

“No problem, Your Excellency,” he replied graciously.

Xu Cenfeng suddenly spoke up and asked, “I heard that the female zergs in the slums are protesting outside the military headquarters because of His Excellency Hill’s actions. Is that true?”

One of the generals, outspoken and indignant, responded, “Those lowlifes are clearly trying to revolt! His Excellency Hill is the highest purity male zerg in our North. Even if he hadn’t been disabled by the Leader’s shot, they would never have the chance to match with him in their lifetime. Those zergs are just causing trouble for no reason! The Leader was too impulsive back then, unnecessarily offending that crazy bunch in the slums!”

After realizing that Xu Cenfeng’s blood purity was indeed 100%, leaving Hill at best in second place, the general awkwardly covered his mouth, quietly falling silent.

Xu Cenfeng, unperturbed, continued with the conversation. “This matter was indeed mishandled by the Leader. After all, male zergs in Hossburgh are rare, which easily sparks controversy. However…”

General Wesley interjected, “However, what?”

Xu Cenfeng paused briefly before changing tack, “However, whether in the West or the North, reproduction is paramount. His Excellency Hill’s whipping of Haite resulted in him losing a zerg egg, possibly even an unborn male zerg. If the Leader doesn’t punish severely, what if male zergs in Hossburgh imitate him? Wouldn’t that further affect the reproductive rate?”

His manner of speaking was evidently gentler than Faeus’, and more likely to be accepted by the zergs. “As the leader of the entire North in the future, apologizing publicly just because a group of female zergs caused a scene at the military headquarters could damage our credibility. If Hossburgh adopts new policies in the future, rebels may follow suit. Should the leader continue to apologize and bow down?”

Standing to the side, Faeus raised an eyebrow at Xu Cenfeng’s words, and his dark expression finally softened a bit.

Exactly! He was the Supreme Leader, why should he apologize to a bunch of lowlifes with zerg shit for brains?

General Wesley obviously understood that using force would only aggravate the situation rather than solve it. “But those female zergs have been causing trouble at the military headquarters and refuse to disperse. If we use force to suppress them, it will only provoke more anger and resistance. We can’t just kill them all.”

Xu Cenfeng shook his head. “Of course, we can’t kill them. They are citizens within the North.”

General Wesley furrowed his brow as he scrutinized Xu Cenfeng, feeling that the words spoken just now didn’t seem like something a brainless male zerg would say. With doubts swirling in his mind, he broke his silence and asked, “So, Your Excellency, in your opinion, how should we handle this matter?”

Xu Cenfeng, however, uttered two words: “Apologize.”

Faeus, who had been quietly observing, suddenly opened his eyes wide at these words. A dangerous glint flashed in his deep green pupils, unable to hide his frustration:

Damn it, what nonsense is Xu Cenfeng talking about? Didn’t he just say not to apologize? How could he change his stance so abruptly?!

The generals present likely shared similar thoughts to Faeus, with a range of expressions reflecting their inner turmoil, but they refrained from speaking directly due to Xu Cenfeng’s status.

General Wesley seemed disappointed. “Your Excellency, it appears that your solution doesn’t differ much from ours.”

Upon hearing this, Xu Cenfeng turned to look outside at the unusually bright sunlight, squinting slightly. He hinted with a meaningful tone, “Apologies vary not only in manner but also in recipients. Regardless, the Leader should never bow down to Hill or those troublesome female zergs.”

“Since they claim to be advocating for His Excellency Hill, why not have the Leader issue a public notice? As long as the protesting female zergs agree to disperse from the military headquarters, they will be given an opportunity to visit His Excellency Hill in the hospital. Additionally, they will be granted an extra privilege to meet with the other male zergs in Hossburgh for potential matches. Whether a marriage occurs or not will be their own decision; the military will only facilitate the arrangement.”

The saying goes, “To kill someone, you must destroy their heart; to strike a snake, aim for its head.” Xu Cenfeng’s proposed solution may seem gentle and harmless at first glance, lacking any direct harm, but in reality, it strikes at the heart of the matter.

Currently, Hill lies half-dead in the hospital, receiving treatment for worsening injuries to his lower body, suffering excruciating pain. It’s said that he spends his days hurling the most venomous insults, smashing bowls and vases, and several nurses responsible for his care have been injured.

The female zergs causing trouble outside are no different from the zealous fans of later generations who idealize their idols, constructing a false, idealized image and becoming hopelessly immersed in it.

In Hossburgh, the class system draws an impassable gulf between common peasants and nobility, ensuring that those female zergs can never truly reach Hill. Now, Xu Cenfeng intends to shatter that facade and let them see for themselves what their idolized “popular idol” truly looks like.

Evil, violent, cruel, ugly…

After losing the aura of the highest blood purity, can Hill still evoke their pity and affection?

Once they’ve seen Hill, will those female zergs continue to protest and continue to meet with other mild-mannered male zergs?

No, absolutely not…

After this announcement is made, several outcomes will likely occur: Hill, who is recuperating in the hospital, will be driven to frustration and breakdown by the successive visits of the female zergs. Those foolish and ignorant female zergs will be shocked and disappointed by the shattering of their illusions, each receiving their own punishment. And finally, Faeus doesn’t have to apologize, which is truly perfect.

Upon hearing this, Faeus quickly grasped the key to the situation. His gaze filled with suspicion, he looked towards Xu Cenfeng, who stood by the window bathed in the light and shadow. Xu Cenfeng’s eyes were slightly lowered, his profile resembling polished white jade framed by a golden edge, maintaining his clean and transparent appearance, which even surpassed the snow outside in purity.

The remaining generals all showed expressions of joy, discussing quietly among themselves. They quickly reached a consensus: “Let’s do it this way! Those commoners are causing trouble outside because they’re obsessed with finding a mate. Now, giving them a chance to meet will surely make them interested!”

General Wesley pondered for a moment and couldn’t help but admire, “Indeed, it’s a good plan. But I’m afraid His Excellency Hill won’t cooperate.”

Faeus heard this and coldly raised an eyebrow. He thought, ‘What kind of question is this?’ With arms crossed and back against the corner of the table, his muscular frame caused the sleeves of his shirt to momentarily tighten. “If he doesn’t cooperate, even better. Let those blind female zergs see for themselves what kind of shit they’ve been idolizing all day long.”

One general chimed in with flattery, unaware that his comment hit a snag: “The leader is right. Lord Xu Cenfeng’s blood purity is 100%. I believe once this news spreads, no female zergs will idolize Hill anymore!”

But they will all come to idolize Xu Cenfeng!

Faeus silently cursed in his heart. Despite finally resolving the issue of the female zergs causing trouble, his mood not only failed to improve but worsened considerably.

Noticing the palpable tension around Faeus, the other generals tactfully excused themselves, leaving only General Wesley behind.

He is Faeus’ uncle, and there are certain things that cannot be said openly. They can only be advised privately, with a serious tone: “Leader, although Hill indeed committed grave crimes, please refrain from making decisions privately next time if there are further violations of the law, especially by His Excellency Xu Cenfeng.”

Xu Cenfeng stood aside and keenly caught his own name. He subconsciously glanced towards General Wesley, who had turned away to speak in hushed tones with Faeus. Xu Cenfeng could only faintly make out a few scattered phrases:

“He is a rare pureblood male… Should bond with him as soon as possible… Tomorrow, once the news spreads, there will surely be contention… When living together in the future, make sure to control your temper… Don’t act rashly like with Hill… Have a cub as soon as possible…”

Upon hearing these words, Xu Cenfeng paused briefly, realizing they were discussing these matters. A hint of amusement flickered in his ink-dark pupils, though not overtly visible. He decisively turned and walked to the window to admire the scenery, leaving space for the two of them to converse.

Faeus remained silent throughout, an unprecedented display of restraint. However, it wasn’t because he found General Wesley’s words reasonable, but rather because he was utterly dumbfounded.

Bonding with him?

Having a cub soon?

What kind of nonsensical things were these?

If placed in modern-day Earth, Faeus would definitely be seen as a rebellious character focused solely on his career, lifelong single and childless. Suddenly being advised by elders to marry and have children would be like unexpectedly dancing in a minefield.

Faeus knew he had to restrain himself in front of elders, so he remained silent throughout, though the veins pulsating on his forehead betrayed some emotion. “Understood,” he managed to grit out through clenched teeth.

General Wesley couldn’t miss Faeus’ insincerity. Frowning, he shook his head and patted Faeus’ shoulder. “You’re no longer a young cub. From now on, you should be more steady.”

“Gulu—”

Just then, a crisp bouncing sound rang out from upstairs, followed by a colorful toy ball rolling down the stairs and coming to a perfect stop right at General Wesley’s feet.

General Wesley, puzzled, picked up the item by his feet and glanced instinctively towards the second floor. He wondered if Faeus had hidden another male zerg in the house. However, he was surprised to see a green-eyed female zerg squatting quietly by the railing, peeking at them. He paused momentarily in astonishment.

Just now, Agu was brought by Xu Cenfeng into the room to play and somehow managed to sneak out. Seeing his toy ball held by General Wesley, Agu growled low in anger, snatched the toy back from Wesley’s hand, and promptly hid behind Xu Cenfeng, eyeing Wesley warily.

For some reason, General Wesley’s heart skipped a beat. He stared at the slender, dark-colored female zerg for a while, then turned to Faeus with astonishment and asked, “Who is this zerg?”

Faeus glanced instinctively at Xu Cenfeng, who wasn’t looking at him, so he replied casually, “This female zerg is a slave from the Lagona Auction House. Xu Cenfeng took pity on him and bought him.”

Faeus didn’t elaborate too much, especially since Agu’s identity wasn’t confirmed yet. It wouldn’t be good to cause unnecessary excitement.

Xu Cenfeng gently stroked Agu’s hair and whispered, “You mustn’t be rude.”

Agu lowered his head and played with the ball quietly, saying nothing.

Xu Cenfeng smiled helplessly, whether intentionally or unintentionally, and explained to General Wesley, “Sorry, Agu is only thirteen years old and still a bit immature.”

General Wesley’s expression changed abruptly at Xu Cenfeng’s words.

General Wesley: “You said he is how old?!”

Xu Cenfeng: “It should be written as thirteen on his slave contract. What’s wrong?”

As soon as Xu Cenfeng finished speaking, General Wesley suddenly lost control of his emotions and roughly dragged Agu out. Ignoring Agu’s struggles and bites, he lifted the back of Agu’s clothing to inspect and found a red mark on the shoulder blade area. He froze on the spot, muttering in disbelief: “Uguz…”

Faeus raised an eyebrow in surprise, not expecting General Wesley to confirm Agu’s identity so quickly. “Uguz? Wasn’t he supposed to have died over a decade ago? How can this female zerg be him?”

General Wesley, however, responded excitedly, “No! Uguz didn’t die, he just went missing! Look, he has a red birthmark on his back, identical to when he was young. Even his eye color and age are the same!”

The long-lost son returning overnight, General Wesley’s eyes turned red. His hands trembled as he cradled Agu’s face, finding him increasingly familiar, strikingly similar to how Zog looked when he was young. He pulled Agu tightly into his embrace, his words stumbling and incoherent, “Uguz… My Uguz… How did you suddenly appear here… Father has finally found you… Father has finally found you…”

The seasoned general’s voice was now filled with regret, pain, and endless self-blame. He had chosen the empire over his son, allowing Agu to wander outside. At such a young age, he bore numerous scars, looking as though he was only seven or eight despite being thirteen. General Wesley wondered how much suffering Agu had endured during his time away.

As brothers, Agu should have been as pampered as Zog, enjoying a life of luxury. Instead, he ended up in an auction house, treated as a slave, a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of fate.

Perhaps due to their shared bloodline, Agu, for the first time, remained surprisingly calm and didn’t struggle. He tilted his head curiously, observing the middle-aged female zerg holding him and crying. In one hand, he tightly gripped his toy ball, and with the other, he wiped away General Wesley’s tears. Then, he let out a wild beast-like growl.

“Roar~”

Not fierce or aggressive, but simply curious, Agu wondered why the middle-aged female zerg was crying.

General Wesley, seeing Agu wipe away his tears, was taken aback again. The intensity of his earlier embrace softened. Holding Agu’s thin, dark cheek, he pressed his forehead against Agu’s, his eyes red with tears, and choked out softly, “Good child… my good child…”

Faeus seemed naturally unaffected by familial emotions. Observing the scene before him, his expression remained cold and his brows unconsciously furrowed, eventually turning his head away to look elsewhere.

Only Xu Cenfeng knew the reason why.

Faeus was actually a wild cub when he was young. His female father died in battle early, and his male father chose to join another female’s embrace. The previous leader noticed he was an S-class rare cub among the royal clan and adopted him, which led to where he is today.

Faeus has no relatives of his own, and he gets uncomfortable seeing other people reunite, so he’s not only moved but also irritable.

Because he never had those things.

He never had them, so he doesn’t like it when others do.

He feels like he’ll never have blood relatives, but he doesn’t know he really had a cub in his past life.

Xu Cenfeng could only step in to smooth things over, approaching General Wesley and murmuring softly to comfort him in his grief. After a long while, General Wesley finally regained his composure.

Standing up from the ground, General Wesley held Agu tightly in his arms, refusing to let go for a moment, as if afraid of losing the cub he had recovered. After composing himself, he turned to Xu Cenfeng with gratitude in his voice, “Your Excellency, if you hadn’t brought Agu back from the auction house, I wouldn’t have been able to find him. Thank you so much.”

Xu Cenfeng actually preferred to leave this favor to Faeus. “You’re too kind. It was the leader’s consent that allowed me to bring Agu back. I didn’t expect him to be your lost son.”

General Wesley, however, looked at him deeply, implying something. “Whether it’s you or him, you will be partners with the leader in the future. It doesn’t matter who to thank because we’re all zergs.”

Faeus stood nearby, his eyelids twitching at the words. “Damn it, when did I ever say I wanted to be partners with him?!”

General Wesley knew Faeus quite well, though not completely. In the North, most noble female zergs indulged in pleasure, but Faeus had never brought any male zerg home before Xu Cenfeng.

Once a precedent was set, some things couldn’t be stopped.

However, General Wesley wasn’t in the mood to argue with Faeus today. He gently stroked Agu’s head and decided it was best to take him to the hospital for a paternity test. With a serious tone, he said, “Leader, I’ll take Agu with me now. Please remember what I said earlier. From now on, whatever happens, please think carefully before acting. We can’t afford another incident like what happened with Hiel.”

Faeus felt that General Wesley was unnecessarily meddling.

He couldn’t bear to ruin Xu Cenfeng’s lower half, after all, it was related to his happiness for the rest of his life.

General Wesley finally left with Agu. It wasn’t until later that evening that Faeus received the doctor’s test report, confirming that Agu was indeed the lost son of General Wesley. At that moment, Faeus was sitting on the balcony smoking. He glanced at the report and casually tossed it aside. He lazily reclined in his chair, staring blankly at the snowflakes drifting outside the window.

The sealed observation balcony faced towards the distant West, where it was said that the zergs there believed in gods. However, Faeus never believed in such things. His current position was achieved solely through his own efforts, and he had no connection whatsoever with those elusive spirits and gods.

Outside, the cold wind howled, but inside was warm as spring.

Quietly resting on Faeus’ knee was a stack of papers—Xu Cenfeng’s blood test report. He glanced at the data on it, feeling inexplicably displeased.

The military folks were big mouths, and it wouldn’t be long before the news of a pureblood male zerg in the North spread like wildfire.

Xu Cenfeng was probably very pleased with himself now, as he would soon be pursued madly by countless female zergs. While the North didn’t believe in gods, those females might just elevate him to god-like status.

Xu Cenfeng stepped out of the bathroom after his shower and saw Faeus sitting alone on the balcony, smoking a cigarette and holding a blood test report. Faeus occasionally let out a cold laugh or a disdainful scoff, looking almost deranged to anyone who didn’t know better.

Xu Cenfeng observed him for a moment from behind, raising his eyebrows slightly.

The author has something to say:

Xu Cenfeng (thoughtfully): Oh, someone’s jealous ~

Faeus: QAQ My male zerg, no one is allowed to steal him!
