Si Di turned around and saw a man riding a tall horse hovering outside the transparent sliding door, the horse’s hooves tapping on the grass step by step. The man held a bunch of freshly wrapped roses, not just a single color but a carefully selected combination, with a colorful peacock feather inserted in between, and tied with elegant silk ribbons.
“…”
Xiao Zhenyun gestured towards Si Di as he turned the horse around.
Si Di immediately understood what Xiao Zhenyun meant. He smiled as he went forward, exaggeratedly accepting the bouquet. The fragrance of the flowers was intoxicating, and Si Di asked, “Where are the lavender fields? The candles? The ring? The fireworks?”
Xiao Zhenyun ignored the hint and asked, “Are you sure you want to set off fireworks here? Can you sentinels handle it?”
“We sentinels can handle it,” Si Di replied on behalf of Hedgehog, Si Chu, and Xiao Jiali, “Set off firecrackers… set off nuclear bombs.”
Xiao Zhenyun laughed, “No need. This bouquet of flowers and the white horse rental cost fifty bucks.”
“Isn’t that expensive? Can’t Uncle give us a discount?” Si Di patted the horse’s head that came to rub against him, plucked a petal of rose, and offered it to its mouth. The white horse opened its mouth and ate it, enjoying the treat very much, truly living up to its name ‘Wang’, elegant and noble.
In an instant, Tian Lu approached, imitating Wang’s behavior, and tried to eat the flowers. Si Di gave it a whole rose, but Tian Lu chewed on it twice, found it unsuitable for its taste, got pricked by the thorns, and walked away with a disdainful expression.
“Anything else? This is supposed to be my belated confession, but you’ve procrastinated for so long,” Si Di pretended to be very displeased. “White horse, roses, peacock feather… were all crowdfunded.”
“It’s a bit embarrassing…” Xiao Zhenyun admitted honestly, “Lying to the little dog is different.”
In the corner, Si Chu keenly noticed the name mentioned by his ‘brother-in-law’ during the conversation. He listened to each word carefully and combined them, but he still couldn’t understand: Lying to the little dog? What does it mean to lie to a dog? Which time did he lie to a dog?
“Do you know what to do next?” Even though he said all this, Si Di couldn’t stop smiling, his eyes twinkling with excitement, completely contradicting his words.
He was really satisfied, even a playful game in the heat of the moment made him so happy.
Xiao Zhenyun couldn’t help but lean over and lightly kiss the corner of his eye. “This one doesn’t count; I’ll make it up to you next time.”
“How long will this ‘next time’ be delayed?”
“It will definitely happen at some point.”
“If I’m not satisfied, I’ll keep asking for more.”
“…I’ve come this far, haven’t I?”
“It’s not too late now; let’s stick to today’s plan.”
“…” Xiao Zhenyun pinched the tail of this mischievous wolf.
Xiao Jiali frowned in the corner and said to Xiao Nian, “Why does it seem so different?”
Xiao Nian, with a cherry stuffed in his mouth, responded, “What kind of scene were you expecting?”
“Don’t they need to cry tears of joy, or at least share a passionate kiss or two?”
“… ” Xiao Nian couldn’t help but turn Xiao Jiali’s face towards him directly. “Stop watching those messy soap operas, okay? Haven’t you already been spoiled enough by Xiao Zhenyun?”
Xiao Jiali fell silent, blinked, then quickly asked a key question. “So, Nian Nian, how many times will you come back?”
Xiao Nian: “…”
Xiao Nian: “No, this time I’m leaving and not coming back. I’m the world administrator, busy with work.”
“But how many times exactly?” Xiao Jiali asked earnestly.
Xiao Nian: “…”
Xiao Nian covered his face in frustration. “Three to four times, depending on the progress of each world’s plot, but no more than five.”
Xiao Jiali happily conveyed this news to Xiao Zhenyun. Xiao Zhenyun, leaning against the white horse, caught the gist of it and glanced at Xiao Nian with a teasing look, as if to say: ‘Don’t I know you?’
“… ” Xiao Nian ignored him. Just then, Duan Fei approached, politely greeted him, and said he hoped to find answers to his confusions.
Duan Fei was a polite guy, seemingly the only one with a brain in the whole story. Xiao Nian hoped that this brave soldier from the military would teach these unruly sentinel guides a good lesson.
Xiao Nian briefly explained the principles of constructing the world of a script, without involving company secrets. When Si Chu looked at them curiously, he earnestly explained that he was a screenwriter and everything he said was content for an upcoming script.
Duan Fei didn’t quite approve, furrowing his brows slightly, feeling the loopholes in this explanation were too obvious for anyone to believe. He met Si Chu’s gaze, leaned forward to supplement the explanation, but saw Si Chu’s face light up with a look of sudden realization. “Oh, that’s it! This script sounds interesting, I’ll definitely buy a ticket when the movie comes out.”
The little dog believed it without a doubt.
Xiao Nian was very satisfied with the male lead of this world; if nothing else, he was just really easy to deceive.
Duan Fei: “…”
Soon, the conversation between Xiao Nian and Duan Fei attracted the attention of the others. They gathered around to listen to Xiao Nian talk about the setting of the World Management Bureau, each with their own endless questions.
Questions like the origin of world scripts and what requirements the production side had for scripts.
“I’ve come across hundreds of scripts, and the entire management bureau oversees billions of constructed worlds, with tens of thousands of collapsed worlds and tens of thousands more under construction,” Xiao Nian explained, specifically addressing Si Chu and Ye Feiran. “When I say ‘I’, I mean the world administrator in the movie.”
Ye Feiran had drunk quite a bit, and the information was going in one ear and out the other; Si Chu, on the other hand, listened with great interest, nodding repeatedly, urging him to continue.
“The script requirements, the content of the script, the world’s needs, they all need to be consistent, well-rounded… There are some incredibly ridiculous scripts that lead administrators to try constructing these worlds. You understand how the ten thousand collapsed worlds came about now, right?”
“I think,” Hedgehog interjected suddenly, “that the script you told about, like the car accident leading to another world, sounds a bit absurd. Is that world one of the collapsed ones?”
Xiao Zhenyun: “…”
Knowing that Hedgehog’s follow-up would surely be amusing, Si Di covered his lips and smiled politely.
Xiao Nian listened attentively, then asked, “Oh? What do you think, Brother Bang?”
“Well, the protagonist crosses into another world, disabled, where half of his body is paralyzed. Does that make sense?”
Xiao Zhenyun: “…”
Hedgehog smirked, “I heard paralyzed patients can’t do it themselves, they need someone to help… you know…”
Tian Lu suddenly, with a fierce twist of his horns, bumped him hard.
Xiao Jingfeng gave him a smack on the head, warning, “Watch your language.”
Duan Fei wasn’t affected by Hedgehog’s vulgar words at all. He pondered for a moment and asked Xiao Nian, “So, there are at least ten thousand administrators in the entire World Management Bureau?”
Xiao Nian considered, “That’s about right. I’m not sure; there isn’t much communication between company employees who shuttle between different worlds.”
Hedgehog was very interested, “Where do the administrators come from? How do they become administrators? Is there a resume submission channel?”
Xiao Nian: “…Don’t mess with me about administrators.”
“Why not? It sounds like fun,” Hedgehog said eagerly.
Xiao Nian immediately tightened his lips, “This belongs to company confidential information, I’m afraid.”
Hedgehog squinted his eyes, and Xiao Zhenyun felt that this chaotic and dark sentinel seemed to have found the essence of his remaining life in this instant. He was determined to become a world administrator and continue to create chaos in other worlds.
Xiao Nian felt like he was being entangled by a cold snake, with the gaze following him like a shadow, making it hard for him to eat his fruit. He swallowed nervously, looked around, and quietly moved to Xiao Jingfeng’s side. When Uncle Xiao read the administrator’s call for help, he immediately reached out with his long arm and pulled Xiao Nian into his embrace.
The radiant guide’s righteousness instantly dispelled the cold air of the dark sentinel, and Xiao Nian basked in the holy light, while the little dog brought hot tea to Uncle Xiao.
Seeing this heartwarming scene, Hedgehog rolled his eyes and quieted down. He decided that the remaining goal of his life was to rebuild the glory of the dark sentinels.
Xiao Jiali originally raised a real eagle, which Xiao Zhenyun gave to him. When he left this world, Xiao Zhenyun almost killed the eagle with his actions, but he managed to save its life, and then he gave it to someone else. Initially, Xiao Jiali planned to bring it back and continue raising it, but then… his spiritual body saw the real eagle, and it got jealous, which led to an unresolved situation.
The eagle spiritual body, beyond its infancy, was exceptionally brave and fierce, with a sharp beak and keen eyes. And it still was the natural enemy of the two animals present.
The short-tailed viper, with its master’s backing, strutted around the eagle proudly, unafraid. The snow ferret brought by Duan Fei trembled uncontrollably, refusing to make friends, fearing for its life in this place.
Ye Feiran’s cheeks were flushed with alcohol, and Si Chu grinned foolishly, while the peacock beside them seemed a bit out of sorts, crazily pecking at the wooden screen.
Si Chu was already a bit silly, but with this smile from his beloved guide, he became even more so. Xiao Mu, by his side, stuck out his tongue and wagged its tail, happily barking.
Not far away, Tai Ji looked up at the full moon in the sky, feeling restless. He resisted the urge to howl but couldn’t hold back, letting out a long howl, which immediately awakened the spiritual bodies around him, who joined in with joyous howls.
Tian Lu, unwilling to be outdone, also joined in the howling, his voice drowned out by the disharmony of wolf cries and dog barks.
Xiao Zhenyun’s gaze was drawn to this noisy group of spiritual bodies, a curious shadow poking out, enjoying this jungle symphony. Si Di couldn’t help but lightly bite his lip, “We’re kissing, focus.”
“Mmm…” Xiao Zhenyun licked the spot where he had just been bitten, leaving a bloodstain, very noticeable. “Why does this black wolf bite people?”
Si Di smiled, showing off his canine teeth, swinging his long tail: “Wolves eat deer, it’s their nature, their law.”
…Who eats whom isn’t always certain.
Xiao Zhenyun’s words trailed off as he closed his eyes, leaning in for another kiss in the corner of the room, exchanging a lingering and warm kiss with Si Di.
