SL Chapter 12

Don't Need to Protect Me

Tang Zhe didn’t know what wish Min Yang made in the end, but after spending over half an hour carefully considering his position, the candles had nearly burned halfway down by the time the Alpha clasped his hands together, closed his eyes, and made his wish.

After making his wish, Min Yang found the perfect angle and blew out the candles in one breath.

Tang Zhe handed him a piece of cake. “Mr… Mr. Min… h-happy birthday.”

“Mm.” Min Yang’s tone was as cold as ever, but after taking the cake, he quickly and quietly muttered a “thanks.”

The next day.

As usual, the butler got up early to prepare breakfast. Tang Zhe also woke up early, wanting to learn more about Min Yang’s breakfast preferences, so he went into the kitchen to help. In recent times, Tang Zhe had been spending more time with the butler to understand Min Yang’s likes and dislikes, so naturally, the butler ended up with traces of Tang Zhe’s scent on him.

Tang Zhe was focused on learning how to cook breakfast, completely unaware of the scent, and since the butler was a Beta, he didn’t notice it either.

While the two of them worked harmoniously in the kitchen, an Alpha who had silently descended the stairs shattered the glass he was holding.

“Tang Zhe!” Min Yang’s voice was low and menacing. “What are you doing in the kitchen?”

“…Hm?” Tang Zhe turned his head in confusion.

Min Yang’s brows were tightly knit. “Get out.”

Tang Zhe hesitated, glancing at the pancakes on the stove. “Mr… Mr. Min…”

That brief moment of hesitation was enough to ignite a sudden surge of anger within Min Yang. The Alpha felt as though something inside his chest was swelling violently, on the verge of boiling over. He strode into the kitchen, yanked the glass door open, and grabbed Tang Zhe by the wrist, pulling him out.

The butler was too stunned to react. He just stood there, frozen, until the Alpha’s cold glare turned on him.

Min Yang: “You’re in the way!”

Butler: ???

Tang Zhe didn’t understand what was wrong with Min Yang, but since they had shared a deep connection as an Alpha and Omega, Tang Zhe immediately sensed Min Yang’s… unease the moment his wrist was grabbed.

Tang Zhe tried to relax, letting Min Yang pull him out of the kitchen. Just as they reached the door, Tang Zhe remembered the pancakes he was making and turned to tell the butler, but Min Yang grabbed his chin.

Min Yang’s face was stern. “Do you really have that much to say?”

Tang Zhe: “The… the pancakes.”

Min Yang: “No more pancakes.”

Tang Zhe: “But… but you haven’t… had breakfast yet. You’ll… get hungry.”

Min Yang: “I’m full of anger.”

Tang Zhe: …

As they spoke, Min Yang had already pulled Tang Zhe back to the bedroom. The door slammed shut with a loud “bang,” and Min Yang, still not satisfied, twisted the lock with an angry “click.”

Min Yang growled, “You’re not going anywhere.”

Inside the enclosed space of the bedroom, Tang Zhe finally realized that something was off. The concentration of Min Yang’s pheromones in the room was clearly higher than normal, signaling the onset of the Alpha’s rut.

Tang Zhe remembered that their first time had been a sudden, unplanned event, and instinctively moved to find Min Yang’s inhibitors.

But before he could act, Min Yang pulled him tightly into his arms. The Alpha’s breath was hot, and he wasn’t pleased with Tang Zhe’s distraction, tightening his grip around Tang Zhe’s waist as a form of punishment.

“Mr… Mr. Min, I… I’m here,” Tang Zhe softly reassured, releasing his own pheromones to soothe the Alpha entering his rut.

Tang Zhe’s tone was so gentle, almost as if he were comforting a child, that Min Yang felt a strange sensation in his chest.

Min Yang, stubborn as ever, said, “Who cares if you’re here or not?”

Tang Zhe, with a touch of helplessness, responded, “Then… I’ll… I’ll leave?”

Min Yang: “You dare?”

The two of them were so close that Tang Zhe suddenly felt his face heat up. Reflecting on Min Yang’s behavior that morning, he blinked uncertainly and quietly asked, “Mr. Min… were… were you jealous?”

Min Yang kept a stern face. “I was not.”

Tang Zhe still tried to explain, “We were just—”

Min Yang cut him off, “You don’t need to explain.”

Standing by the bedroom door, Min Yang locked it again for good measure. “I don’t care!”

Tang Zhe: …

Tang Zhe patiently reassured, “Alright… okay.”

But his tone was so obviously soothing that Min Yang frowned again.

“Tang Zhe, I’m not a child.”

Min Yang’s rationality was still intact, allowing him to think somewhat clearly. Reflecting on how Tang Zhe had been taking care of him recently, Min Yang’s frown deepened. He wasn’t some fragile porcelain doll, not afraid of storms or the dark. Min Yang felt the need to emphasize this.

He wasn’t sure if Tang Zhe even understood, but he heard the little stammerer hum in acknowledgment.

Min Yang: “I’m an Alpha.”

He… didn’t need an Omega to carefully protect him, especially not one who stammered so badly.

The weather had taken a turn recently, with heavy rain last night and strong winds. Outside the window, the streetlamp barely illuminated the tree that had lost all its leaves, leaving only the bare, scraggly branches reaching out like a tangled mess. As Min Yang looked away from the window, his mind felt equally chaotic.
