BNR Chapter 21

Ambiguous

“Qi Ge, Qi Ge, thank you so much!” Hu Ying exclaimed happily while munching on her bread.

Su Yanxi, nibbling on her bread on the side, couldn’t help but burst into laughter when she saw Hu Ying accidentally spew some bread crumbs.

Mu Qi also laughed, patting the back of her head, saying, “Finish eating first, look at the mess you made with the bread. Clean up after you’re done.”

“Got it, Qi Ge.” Hu Ying grinned, unfazed.

Mu Qi, watching Su Yanxi’s laughter, couldn’t help but playfully swipe at her nose, saying, “You should eat too, you’re nibbling like a little mouse.”

Surprised by this affectionate gesture, Su Yanxi paused, and Mu Qi also froze. The two of them simultaneously averted their gazes. Meanwhile, Hu Ying, sitting across from them, wore a teasing smile and propped her chin with her hand, saying, “What’s going on between you two?”

“We’re just friends,” they both said in unison. After speaking, they exchanged glances, then turned their heads away from each other.

Hu Ying made a skeptical sound, and her face clearly expressed disbelief.

Mu Qi cleared her throat, stood up, and said, “Are you full? After eating, let’s play some games.”

As soon as Hu Ying heard the mention of games, she quickly stuffed the remaining bread into her mouth, clapped her hands, and stood up, saying, “Coming, coming!”

Mu Qi added, “Finish tidying up the table first.”

“Ah…” Hu Ying’s face immediately fell with disappointment.

Su Yanxi chimed in, “You guys go ahead and play. I’ll take care of the cleanup.”

Huying’s eyes lit up immediately, and she happily said, “Really? Thank you, Yanshi.”

Muqi was about to say something more, but Suyanxi smiled and shook her head, saying, “You go ahead and play with Huying, I’ll join you later.”

Muqi sighed, patting Huying’s head, “You, really.”

Huying ran off with a cheerful smile.

When Suyanxi came over, Huying had already been thoroughly defeated by Muqi, crying with a pitiful face, “Brother Qi, let me off, this way, I won’t have any gaming experience at all.”

Muqi chuckled, “If your skills aren’t up to par, don’t blame me for defeating you.”

Huying immediately turned to Suyanxi and pleaded, “Yanshi, quickly talk to your Muqi and let her spare me.”

Suyanxi blushed immediately, lowering her head in embarrassment. Muqi glanced at Suyanxi, then patted Huying on the back, lowering her voice, “What nonsense are you talking about?”

Seeing that Muqi didn’t have any ill intentions, Suyanxi lowered her eyelids, hiding the disappointment in her eyes.

Muqi awkwardly smiled at Suyanxi and said, “Come on, let’s continue playing the game.”

“Okay.” Huying immediately perked up.

Muqi smiled and said, “Yanshi, join us.”

“Sure.” Suyanxi forced a smile.

While playing the game, Suyanxi always seemed absent-minded, her gaze occasionally falling on Muqi. Just as Huying was about to speak to Muqi, she noticed the look in Suyanxi’s eyes directed at Muqi. Lost in thought, Suyanxi grabbed a nearby cola, bit the straw, and started drinking.

“You died again,” Muqi turned to look at her.

Only then did Huying snap out of her thoughts, put down the cola, and resumed playing with her.

In the evening, Huying and Suyanxi left Muqi’s house together, waved to Muqi standing by the window, and then walked towards the entrance of the residential area.

“Do you like Brother Qi?” Huying hesitated for a while before speaking.

Suyanxi’s lips revealed a bitter smile, her gloved hands tightly clasped together. In a low voice, she said, “Liking him, so what? Muqi doesn’t have that kind of intention.”

Huying didn’t know how to comfort her for a moment, so she patted her shoulder and said, “Hang in there, I believe you two will be together.”

“Thank you,” Suyanxi smiled.

“Well, I’ll go now. Take care on your way,” Huying waved.

“Okay.”

On the way back, Suyanxi felt a bit lost, thinking about Muqi’s denial of Huying’s words today. She stomped her foot in frustration.

At the Mu residence,

Muqi watched TV, but her mind was entirely on the events of the afternoon. Huying’s words bothered her a lot. At that moment, she hastily denied it, but now thinking back, the girl’s expression had changed when she finished speaking. Reflecting on this, Muqi regretfully tapped her forehead, no longer in the mood to watch TV.

Over the course of this semester, she found herself increasingly caring about the girl. When she cried, Muqi felt helpless. At that time, she didn’t think much about it, but now she realized that she might genuinely care about the girl.

The more Muqi thought about it, the more certain she became. Glancing at the time, it was nine o’clock. Knowing that the girl usually slept around ten, Muqi immediately put on her coat, grabbed her keys, and left the house.

After returning home, Suyanxi sat at her desk, writing in her diary under the desk lamp, thinking about Muqi. The more she thought, the more upset she became. She pouted, and her eyes turned red with anger.

At that moment, something knocked on her window, startling her. She nervously looked towards the window.

The window was knocked again, and this time, she saw it was a tree branch. She furrowed her brows and walked over, wondering how there could be a tree branch outside her window.

Suyanxi’s house was on the second floor. Muqi stood on a stone, holding a long tree branch. She tiptoed and barely managed to knock on the window. Right as she was about to knock for the second time, the girl appeared at the window.

When Suyanxi looked down and saw that it was Muqi, her eyes immediately lit up. She opened the window and exclaimed, “Muqi?!”

“Come down,” Muqi smiled, waving at her.

“Okay.” Suyanxi completely forgot about the unpleasantness from the afternoon. She put on her clothes, secretly opened her room door, and seeing that her parents were already asleep, she tiptoed out of the room, walked to the front door, gently opened it, and then quickly went outside.

When she excitedly ran downstairs, her heart was still pounding. When she reached Muqi, she remembered the events of the afternoon. Quickly suppressing her smile, she walked up to Muqi and asked, “Muqi, is there something you came to talk to me about?”

After seeing the girl, Muqi looked at her seriously and said softly, “Yanxi, you…”

Seeing her hesitate, Suyanxi pouted, “If you don’t say, I’ll leave.”

“Ah.” Muqi quickly grabbed her, pursed her lips, and finally, when the girl didn’t react, she pulled her into an embrace.

Suyanxi was stunned by this sudden hug. Then, her face showed disbelief, and a smile formed on her lips.

“Yanxi, I like you,” Muqi embraced the girl and whispered, “Although I’m not completely sure, the thought of you being unhappy makes me unhappy. So, I impulsively came over.” Finally, Muqi awkwardly lowered her voice, realizing she was too impulsive to come over like this.

Although the words seemed a bit irresponsible, Suyanxi was very happy to hear them. She hugged Muqi tightly and exclaimed, “I like you too.”

Suyanxi sat at her desk, touching her forehead, thinking about the kiss Muqi had given her there. The thought filled her with sweetness, making her heart feel overwhelmed with joy.

On the bed, Muqi, with a smile on her lips, entered dreamland.

The next day, Huying noticed an unusual atmosphere between the two. She squinted at them, then approached Muqi and whispered, “What’s going on between you two?”

Seeing her curious look, Muqi playfully tapped her on the head with her finger and said, “Are you being nosy?”

“You’re the nosy one,” Huying retorted, then shifted her gaze to Suyanxi. Taking advantage of Muqi’s distraction, she approached Suyanxi, nudged her with her elbow, and asked in a low voice, “Yanxi, what’s going on between you two?”

Suyanxi’s face immediately turned red. She glanced shyly at Muqi and whispered, “We’re just friends.”

Judging by her expression, it was far from just being friends—quite the opposite.

Huying squinted her eyes, revealing a mischievous smile.

While playing the game, Huying sat next to the two, placing Suyanxi in the middle. Huying frequently bumped into her, causing Suyanxi to occasionally fall onto Muqi.

After a few times, Muqi, trying to support Suyanxi, got her character killed by Huying’s character. However, she didn’t seem upset at all. In fact, there was a smile on her lips.

Huying cheered loudly, “Hahaha, Brother Qi, are you done for? Did you lose?”

“That’s because I let you win,” Muqi smiled.

“Oh really?” Huying raised an eyebrow, looking at her with a teasing smile.

Muqi, sensing her flirtatious gaze, narrowed her eyes at her.

Huying immediately chuckled and withdrew her gaze.
