“What’s wrong?” Shan Yi sat down next to her, holding her hands. “Are you feeling unwell?”
“No, I just don’t feel like going.”
Tian Jing interjected, “Tiantian, you go ahead with your tasks. We can reschedule.”
Having Shen Tiantian accompany her was certainly comforting, as it could help conceal her medical check-up, but she wasn’t eager to go anyway. Besides, Shan Yi wouldn’t feel comfortable letting her pregnant wife go out alone with her, and she didn’t like troubling others.
“No, I…” Shen Tiantian was concerned.
Tian Jing interrupted, “It’s fine. I’ll let you know the results.”
Shen Tiantian stared at her for several seconds. Seeing Tian Jing’s insistence, she reluctantly nodded. She turned to Shan Yi and asked, “Why did you come down too?”
“Seeing that you hadn’t come back for a while, I came to check on you.”
Shen Tiantian looked at the time; they had been apart for less than half an hour. Seeing his worried expression, she felt both sweet and amused. She leaned in and said, “You can’t stand to be without me, can you?”
Shan Yi, his eyes smiling, looked at her. “Yeah, I don’t want to be away from you for even a moment. I want to keep you in my arms every day so you can’t go anywhere.”
What was meant to be a tease ended up making her blush. Her face turned bright red.
“Can you two stop showing off in front of me?” Tian Jing felt a bit exasperated, rubbing her throbbing temples.
“You could show off with Aunt Shan too,”Shan Yi suggested with a probing tone. “Haven’t you two reconciled yet?”
“This is my private matter, CEO.”
Shan Yi shrugged. “I don’t know what happened between you two, but I hope you reconcile one day. We’ll be going now.”
Tian Jing nodded slightly. After watching them leave, she leaned back, her fair, slender hand gently covering her abdomen, a conflicted look in her eyes.
At noon, during her break, Tian Jing went to the People’s Hospital and registered for a gynecology appointment.
Sitting on a chair in the hallway, Tian Jing lowered her head. Suddenly, Shan Yue’s smiling face appeared in her mind, sweetly calling her “baby.” Her heart ached. Just then, her number was called. Tian Jing quickly composed herself and walked into the consulting room.
The doctor, a woman in her thirties, wore rimless glasses on her nose, looking like a high-ranking professional with a serious expression. She routinely inquired about Tian Jing’s condition. Tian Jing, already suspecting her situation, truthfully recounted her symptoms.
“The preliminary diagnosis is pregnancy. You should get an ultrasound to check the baby’s health.”
Tian Jing didn’t refuse and silently followed the doctor to the ultrasound room.
Soon, she received the report.
Although she had expected it, seeing the diagnostic content still made her dizzy.
After giving birth to Tiantian, she had developed some health issues. Fortunately, the baby was healthy despite being a bit weak, but she was slightly anemic and the stress had caused severe morning sickness. The doctor suggested she take a break from work to recuperate.
Tian Jing thought for a moment and asked, “If I decide to terminate the pregnancy, will I need to be hospitalized?”
“With advanced painless abortion procedures, you can get out of bed in less than an hour. However, like childbirth, abortion requires a recovery period to prevent long-term health issues. I noticed cervical tears from a previous birth.”
“Yes,” Tian Jing nodded. “Natural delivery.”
The doctor nodded, “The second child will be easier to deliver. Are you considering terminating the pregnancy due to personal difficulties?”
Tian Jing didn’t deny having such thoughts, but she was hesitant. She didn’t know what to make of her relationship with Shan Yue. Since Shen Tiantian’s wedding, she hadn’t seen Shan Yue. The memory of her sudden disappearance years ago still frightened Tian Jing, a period she never wanted to relive.
But thinking of her daughter still in school, her heart softened. Perhaps she could try being proactive one more time?
With that thought, she shook her head. “No, I was just asking.”
“Alright, since you’ve decided to keep the baby, I’ll prescribe some folic acid and medication for you.”
“Thank you.
Leaving the hospital, Tian Jing felt herself tense up again. She stood at the hospital entrance for a long time, watching passersby walk by, until someone accidentally bumped into her, causing her to stumble back two steps.
Tian Jing snapped back to reality, the familiar feeling of confusion overwhelming her. She couldn’t shake it off. She walked to the parking lot, slowly started her car, and found herself driving to Sacred Heart Hospital, where Shan Yue worked.
She looked up at the building, as if making a decision, and nervously walked inside, only to unexpectedly run into Wen Wenxue in the lobby—her greatest obstacle.
Just as she was debating whether to ignore Wen Wenxue and go find Shan Yue, Shan Yue stepped out of the elevator, still in her white coat, indicating she hadn’t finished work yet. Wen Wenxue approached her, and Tian Jing suddenly wanted to retreat. Disappointed, she turned away.
Claiming ‘there was no contact’ was a lie. Tian Jing couldn’t help but mock herself. She didn’t know why she had come here or why she wanted to tell Shan Yue about her pregnancy. It seemed Shan Yue’s life was still very refined without her.
She almost ran back to her car, feeling numbness in her feet. Realizing she was crying, she was startled when someone knocked on her car window. Taking a deep breath, she turned to see Shan Yue’s face close to the glass. Flustered, she grabbed some tissues to wipe her tears.
Once she had calmed down a bit, she realized what she was doing. She could have just ignored everything and pretended nothing happened.
Shan Yue, persistent, continued knocking, her expression increasingly anxious. Tian Jing hesitated but eventually rolled down the window. Shan Yue immediately reached in to unlock the door and pulled her into an embrace. “Why are you crying?”
“I’m not,” Tian Jing’s voice was still hoarse from crying.
Shan Yue knew she was being insincere. Detecting her tone of grievance, she didn’t call her out but changed the topic, “Were you here to see me?”
“No…” Smelling Shan Yue’s scent, Tian Jing suddenly felt a bit of peace.
“Liar,” Shan Yue gently bit her neck. “Do you know how bad you are at lying? Why did you run away earlier? Am I that scary?”
“I didn’t.”
“There it is, the Tian style denial.” Shan Yue sighed, gently releasing her and meeting her gaze. “You always do this, pushing everyone away when you’re upset. The more you say no, the more it means yes.”
Tian Jing’s expression soured as if her secret had been exposed. “What nonsense are you talking about?”
Shan Yue leaned in and quickly kissed her on the corner of her mouth, speaking before Tian Jing could scold her, “I’ve been busy these past few days and haven’t had time to see you. Did you miss me? Is that why you came to the hospital?”
Tian Jing kept a straight face. “No, I just felt unwell. Tiantian recommended this place, so I came to check it out.”
“What’s wrong? Did you get checked? What did the doctor say?” Shan Yue’s tone became anxious. “Let me see the report.”
“I’m fine.”
Shan Yue frowned at her, looking very serious. “Even if you hate me, you can’t joke about your health. Listen to me, I’ll take you for another check-up.”
“I said no.” Tian Jing’s expression turned completely cold, especially when she saw Wen Wenxue not far away. “Go accompany your little lover. I’m leaving. Move.”
“I’m not moving.” Shan Yue, having seen Wen Wenxue too, feared Tian Jing would run away, so she held her tighter and teased, “Wow, why does your car smell like vinegar?”
Hearing her words, Tian Jing felt her ears heat up. She struggled symbolically, but seeing Wen Wenxue’s darkening face inexplicably made her feel better, so she allowed Shan Yue to hold her.
“You smelled wrong.”
Shan Yue exaggeratedly sniffed again, “Hmm, I did smell it wrong. There’s a bit of a gunpowder scent too.”
Tian Jing, both annoyed and embarrassed, pushed her shoulder and scolded, “Enough already.”
“Not enough. If we were at home, I’d want to touch you and kiss you.”
Tian Jing couldn’t help but blush. Where did this person learn to speak like this after just a few days apart? She glanced at the spot where Wen Wenxue had been standing. It was now empty, with only a few cars around.
“Alright, I won’t tease you anymore. Now, tell me, what’s wrong?”
“There’s really nothing wrong with me.” If there was any discomfort, it was the little bean sprout in her belly causing it. She had initially wanted to tell Shan Yue about this, but now she had changed her mind.
She decided to let Shan Yue, a gynecologist, figure out her pregnancy on her own. It should be quite amusing, right?
Her mind couldn’t help but imagine Shan Yue’s dumbfounded expression when she found out about the pregnancy, and she couldn’t suppress a smile.
“What are you smiling about?” Shan Yue, curious, asked when she saw her beloved smiling suddenly, unaware of what she was thinking.
Tian Jing immediately hid her smile, “I need to get back.”
“No, you’re not going back.”
Tian Jing: “I’m at work right now.”
“You must really miss me, coming over during work hours.”
“Get lost.”
“I won’t.” Shan Yue tightened her hold and asked, “Have you eaten? I haven’t yet. Will you join me for a bite?”
“I need to work.”
Shan Yue said, “I’ll talk to Xiao Yi. No matter how busy, they shouldn’t overwork their employees.”
Tian Jing was amused by her serious tone, “It’s normal working hours. No one is overworking me.”
“Fine, you just love rejecting me. Since that’s the case, I won’t force you. Go on then.” Shan Yue lowered her head in disappointment but made no move to step aside.
Tian Jing: …
Then move out of the way.
She smiled helplessly, realizing she had no choice, “Get in the car.”
Shan Yue immediately brightened up, walking from the front of the car to the other side, happily sitting in the passenger seat.
Tian Jing: …
Already a mother of two, and still acting like a child… Thinking about this, Tian Jing suddenly stopped smiling, her expression turning somewhat sad.
“What do you want to eat?” Shan Yue asked.
“I’m not hungry. You decide.”
“There’s a new beef hotpot place in Zhonghe. Want to try it?”
“Sure.” Tian Jing calmly changed lanes, catching a glimpse of Shan Yue taking off her coat from the corner of her eye. She blushed, “What are you doing?”
“I can’t go to lunch in a lab coat, can I?”
Tian Jing: … “By the way, aren’t you supposed to be at work? Are you really free?”
“No worries, there’s a doctor on duty,” Shan Yue said. “Besides, I’m already off work. Having a meal with my wife is a priority.”
Tian Jing blushed, “Who’s your wife?”
“You, right here in front of me,” Shan Yue laughed.
Tian Jing blushed again, this time even her ears turned red.
Shan Yue gazed at her affectionately, thinking, *So cute, I want her.*
