ALHM Chapter 13

Thinking of something, Wen Jueli put down his chopsticks and asked, “Don’t you want to eat?”

Although it was the first meal he cooked, Yan Qing hadn’t eaten. He yawned, “I don’t have much appetite. I’m a bit tired and want to take a nap.”

Wen Jueli said, “Then, go rest in your room.”

Yan Qing hesitated for a moment, feeling that his words sounded a bit strange. It seemed like he was making himself look useless. As if he got tired after cooking a meal.

He thought for a moment and explained to Wen Jueli, “It’s not that I’m tired. I just feel really sleepy. You know that I had a minor concussion from falling down the stairs while being chased by paparazzi. And I just had a medical appointment a few days ago because I’ve been feeling very tired and sleepy lately. The doctor said it might be related to my concussion and resting for a few days should help. So, I’ll go take a nap now.”

Yan Qing was afraid that Wen Jueli would worry, so he added, “I’ll be fine after resting for a few days.” Yan Qing didn’t notice that he almost revealed his amnesia incident.

[Yan Qing was followed by paparazzi before? Probably during the time when his marriage to Mr. Wen was exposed.]

[Oh my goodness, he was stalked? How creepy! Whether it’s paparazzi or sasaeng fans, secretly following someone like this is just disgusting. I suddenly feel so sorry for Yan Qing. He used to be an ordinary person, but now he’s being targeted by online harassment, just because he’s Mr. Wen’s Husband.]

[So, that’s why Yan Qing has been resting at home for the past few days.]

[Is this why they sleep in separate beds? To take care of Yan Qing’s sleep deprivation?]

[There’s a possibility!]

In an instant, the livestream chat was filled with sympathy for Yan Qing.

Yan Qing was really exhausted. The sleepiness he felt now had a minor aftereffect factor. But the main reason was Wen Jueli’s passionate confession from the previous night at the film festival. It had almost moved Yan Qing to tears, and he had spent the entire night repeatedly watching the video of Wen Jueli’s live speech.

In the video, there’s a sparkling stage. A spotlight happened to shine on Wen Jueli from behind. He stood at the center of the stage where he was adored by the audience, with even his hair gleaming!

Yan Qing’s hand was on the door handle. Thinking of this, he smiled brilliantly, “I love you too, my husband. Have a good afternoon!”

Wen Jueli was momentarily stunned and stuttered, “Uh, you, you rest well.”

[Ah! What the fvck!]

[Are they not aware of us? Are they being serious with this display of affection like this?]

[The guests next door would still argue and fight at home. But why are these two so sweet? Are there really no disagreements between them?]

[My goodness, so sweet!! The sweetness level is off the charts. I’ve always suspected that Mr. Wen likes straightforward types. Now, seeing how radiant Yan Qing was while saying those sweet words just now, I feel like I’m a fortune teller!]

[Did you guys not notice Yan Qing using the word ‘too’? Does this mean Mr. Wen has said ‘I love you’ to him as well? When did this happen?]

[Could it be during the bathroom break?]

The livestream chat was abuzz with excitement and speculation.

[Upstairs, how can you ship any CP like this? They’ve only been together for half a day, and all they did was have a meal. What’s there to get so excited about? Everything on TV is fake; this must be scripted. The real thing is plain and simple. How can those who casually call each other ‘husband’ and ‘I love you’ be genuine?]

[Don’t judge too quickly!]

Ten seconds later: [Look! Yan Qing has gone back to his room. If I were Mr. Wen, encountering such indescribable food, I’d probably secretly get rid of it. But look!! Mr. Wen actually finished it all!!!]

Wen Jueli wasn’t the type to waste food. While Yan Qing might not be very skilled at cooking, it wasn’t inedible. Apart from forgetting salt and other seasonings, Wen Jueli even rinsed some of the dishes with mineral water and managed to eat them.

Hmm… Looking at the chaotic kitchen, Wen Jueli pursed his lips and quietly made a mental note not to let Yan Qing cook alone next time. Even though he thought about it, he started cleaning the kitchen. Soon, it was spotless and returned to its original state.

*

Maybe it was the pink bubbles of love all over him recently, but Yan Qing’s mood had improved quite a bit. Thankfully, he had discovered Wen Jueli’s silent expressions of love for him. If he hadn’t noticed… Although he wouldn’t have lost any piece of flesh, it would have been a waste of Wen Jueli’s feelings. Besides, Wen Jueli was an excellent husband in every aspect.

That afternoon, Yan Qing had another dream. This time about the latter part of his first meeting with Wen Jueli.

At twenty-one, Wen Jueli was exceptionally handsome, a genuine heartthrob, completely matching Yan Qing’s highest aesthetic standards for the same sex.

His father introduced him to Wen Jueli, and Yan Qing nodded politely. As for Wen Jueli’s parents… Wait, he didn’t have parents. Yan Qing remembered. Their first meeting was with the Chairman of the Wen Group, Wen Jueli’s grandfather, along with his uncle who had brought him along.

But his grandfather had to leave early due to some urgent matter, and he had briefly met Yan Qing before leaving. His uncle remained at the restaurant and introduced Wen Jueli to Yan Qing.

Standing between the two of them, his uncle introduced them with a friendly tone, “Jueli, this is Yan Qing, the youngest son of the Yan family.”

Yan Qing wasn’t as tall as Wen Jueli; at that time, Wen Jueli had to slightly lower his head to look at him. His expression remained unchanged, and his very light hazel eyes showed no emotions, revealing only a young and slightly green look.

Yan Qing couldn’t tell whether Wen Jueli liked him, disliked him, or was simply indifferent. Wen Jueli simply looked at him calmly, and there was no way to discern any emotional change from his expression.

Yan Qing rarely stuttered, “Uhm… hello.”

Wen Jueli responded with an extra cool tone, “Hello.”

Wen Jueli’s uncle took a seat after realizing that the two had already met. During the meal, both sets of parents engaged in lively conversation about business matters. Yan Qing, who had never been interested in such commercial topics, didn’t pay much attention. Instead, he secretly messaged his friends under the table and occasionally glanced in Wen Jueli’s direction.

Throughout the meal, Yan Qing noticed that Wen Jueli remained quiet and composed. He had a refined appearance, an icy demeanor, and displayed impeccable manners, looking even better in person than in the movies. It seemed like he was always indifferent to everything around him.

At one point, Wen Jueli sensed Yan Qing’s gaze and didn’t avoid it. He lifted his eyes, locking them in a brief stare.

Thump.

Yan Qing felt strangely awkward, briefly touched his face, and withdrew his gaze.

By the end of the meal, Yan Qing found it tasteless and boring, especially after being caught peeking at others. It was quite embarrassing, and he couldn’t wait for his parents to finish their conversation so they could head home.

Unexpectedly, just before leaving, his father asked him, “What do you think of Jueli? He’s quite handsome. By the way, did you add him on WeChat?”

Yan Qing’s sixth sense told him something was off, but he subconsciously shook his head.

His father smiled and said, “Well, you should add him now.”

Yan Qing didn’t think twice and immediately refused, “No.”

His mother, grinning, asked, “What’s wrong? Are you scared?”

His mother knew Yan Qing couldn’t handle pressure tactics. He hesitated for a moment and whispered, “It’s not that… it’s just that it’s strange to add someone on WeChat after the first meeting, right? Maybe he doesn’t like me. Why should we add each other and just stare at each other’s profiles?”

He had said so much, but his mother just smiled and used pocket money as a threat. Yan Qing had no choice but to reluctantly follow along. He moved hesitantly, dragging his feet, looking like a hesitant shrimp. Eventually, he stood before Wen Jueli.

Wen Jueli looked at him calmly, asking, “?”

Yan Qing took a deep breath, glanced at his parents behind him, and cautiously said, “Mr. Wen, I’m sorry for peeking at you earlier… I wanted to ask if I could add you on WeChat?”

Wen Jueli: “No.”

Yan Qing: “…”

Only heaven knew how much effort Yan Qing had put into not turning around and walking away. In the end, he added Wen Jueli on WeChat.

But that was only because Wen Jueli’s uncle had seen him and requested that he do so. Otherwise, with Wen Jueli’s temperament, cold as an iceberg, Yan Qing would have truly struggled to fulfill his parents’ mission.

So when Yan Qing saw how considerate Wen Jueli had become towards him five years later, he couldn’t help but sigh.
