After selecting the courses to take, Gugu, following his usual habit, created a detailed schedule, planning out each hour meticulously.
Since the new academic year at the higher education institution would begin in three months, Gugu had two options: either complete all the credits within these three months and apply to the university or take a year and three months to finish and apply next year.
The second option was clearly more relaxed, but Gugu preferred to tackle the issue head-on for a short period rather than extend it, dragging a task that could be resolved in three months out to over a year.
Just like how, in his previous life, seniors in the freshman group at university advised Gugu to take the CET-4 English exam in the first semester and not to delay it, as procrastinating would only make things harder, Gugu decided to follow the advice and not drag things out.
Thinking about this, Gugu strictly followed his schedule and started his first required course: “Beast Language.”
In the Beastman-dominated alliance, Beast Language had become a required subject, much like English in his previous life. Although it originated from human languages, over the years it had developed some unique Beastman characteristics. For example, felines might end a sentence with “meow,” while canines might end with “woof.”
Gugu quietly added in his mind that felines also said “giao.”
Each class was only thirty minutes long, with only two context-based questions as homework.
Sighing at how few assignments there were in the future, Gugu opened the context questions. The first question was, “If an elegant Persian cat and an ugly dog wanted to communicate with you, which would you choose?”
Was this really a context-based question for the respective races?
Gugu was puzzled but curious to see what the ugly dog looked like, so he chose the ugly dog.
“Sorry, your choice is incorrect. (Hint: The course is taught by Dr. Somi, a Beast Language scholar. His Beast form is shown in the image below.)
Pure white elegant Mandarin duck-eyed Persian cat.jpg”
Gugu took a deep breath and corrected his mistake by choosing to communicate with the elegant Persian cat.
A snow-white Persian cat projected itself in front of Gugu, looking refined and elegant. “Hello, human. I am your Beast Language teacher, Professor Somi.”
“Hello, Professor,” Gugu responded politely.
“I have a question for you: why did you initially choose to communicate with the ugly dog?” the Persian cat asked with a smile.
The hidden threat behind the smile made Gugu focus intently and tread carefully. “I was just curious about what the ugly dog looked like.”
“I see. So what do you think would make you choose to communicate with the Persian cat right away?” the Persian cat inquired.
Gugu’s eyes lit up with an idea. “A Siberian Husky!”
“A Siberian Husky?” the Persian cat asked, puzzled.
“Yes, Huskies,” Gugu explained cautiously. “Because they like to destroy things and are adorably mischievous. We call them ‘Erha’ because they seem a bit silly.”
“That name is excellent,” the Persian cat said, giving Gugu a thumbs-up. “Dogs are no match for cats, right?”
“Yes, yes,” Gugu nodded repeatedly, using a tone one might use to coax a cat.
The Persian cat’s projection disappeared with satisfaction, and the self-learning system prompted: “Professor Somi has awarded you full marks for the context question. Please continue to work hard.”
Following the prompt, Gugu took a twenty-minute break and enjoyed a fruit smoothie brought by Nais before starting the next class.
Seeing the words “Elementary Mathematics,” Gugu felt confident. After all, Gugu had been good at math in his previous life. During the college entrance exams, apart from missing the last question of the multiple-choice section and the last item of the big questions, he was confident about the rest.
The last required course of the morning was “Cosmology,” which mostly involved admiring the beautiful universe, with simple and easy-to-understand explanations provided.
However, Gugu found himself puzzled when it came time to do the homework.
The first question was: “What is the shape of the universe?” The second question was: “What are the two possible futures of the universe?”
Gugu clearly remembered that these two questions were not covered in the course, and his previous education rarely focused on cosmology. Unable to understand, Gugu tried to access the star network for help but was blocked by the self-learning system.
“Nais! Help me!” Gugu called out loudly to the robot that was cleaning.
Nais arrived quickly and, after seeing the questions, provided Gugu with the answers directly.
“The universe has three possible shapes: First, flat. Second, curved inward where the edges meet. Third, curved outward.
For the second question, the two possible futures are: Expansion and contraction.”
After hearing the answers, Gugu fell into even deeper confusion and asked with a soul-searching tone, “Why?”
Nais paused for a moment, then brought up extensive papers and data, displaying terms like “General Relativity,” “Negative Gravity,” and “Critical Value,” which only deepened Gugu’s confusion.
Gugu and Nais stared at each other for a while, and then Nais took a step back. “I’m sorry, young master. I do not have the capability to tutor in academic subjects. When the master returns, perhaps you can ask him.”
Hearing the words “academic tutoring” reminded Gugu of the innocent parents from his previous life, who were often exasperated by their children’s homework.
As long as there was no homework, everything was harmonious. But once tutoring started, chaos was inevitable.
After pondering for a while, Gugu looked up with concern. “Nais, do you think asking the leopard to help me with my homework will affect our relationship? What if I accidentally make him so angry that he has a heart attack? Could it impact the alliance’s operations?”
Nais fell into a deeper silence.
Sighing, Gugu entered the answers, then noted down the two questions in a notebook to study later.
During the afternoon elective classes, Gugu encountered more problems. The only subjects that seemed relaxing were physical education and combat training. For the combat class, the assignment involved entering a game pod to clear a low-level Zerg dungeon in the second world. Under Nais’s guidance, Gugu saw the custom game pod designed for the big cat, with top-notch configuration and a luxurious yet understated exterior—it was truly a premium product.
“This must be very expensive, right?” Gugu remembered browsing professional game pods and noted that the price was at least ten times that of a regular game pod, not to mention this was a custom-made one.
“Free of charge,” Nais smiled. “The master has a long-term collaboration with the game pod creator. If you like, the master can have one customized for you.”
Gugu clutched the black and gold game pod tightly and looked at Nais eagerly. “Can I use this to complete my assignments?”
“Please feel free to use it; the master has already granted you access here,” Nais nodded.
The game pod door opened, and Gugu eagerly lay down inside. He closed his eyes for a long time but did not enter the second world.
“Black Gold,” Nais said helplessly, tapping the game pod, “This is the young master.”
“Identity not recognized,” the game pod responded coldly.
“It won’t let me use it?” Gugu sat up from the game pod, feeling a bit dejected.
“It’s likely because Black Gold is custom-made and only recognizes the master,” Nais explained, pulling Gugu out of the game pod and giving it a disapproving glance.
“Black Gold only recognizes strong beastmen,” the game pod said coldly.
Nais rolled his eyes at the game pod.
“Is it because I’m not strong, so it won’t let me use it?” Gugu puffed out his cheeks. “You haven’t even seen my combat performance, so why assume I’m incapable?”
“You are human,” Black Gold stated bluntly.
Gugu now understood what Little Du had meant by “many game pods are not friendly to humans.”
Humans may not match the strength and stamina of beastmen, but with a mechanical exoskeleton, Gugu might still hold his own in a fight.
Except for Mimi, who can’t actually fight.
“Rejecting domestic violence, starting with Gugu.”
“I can’t change the fact that I’m human, but I’m proud of my humanity,” Gugu said, standing tall and looking down at the game pod. “Being human doesn’t mean I’m necessarily weaker than beastmen. If you don’t believe me, let me prove it.”
After a moment of silence, the game pod displayed three words.
“I refuse.”
“You’re afraid. You’re scared that my performance might surpass that of the beastmen,” Gugu attempted to provoke the pod to get it to let him use it.
“You are human,” Black Gold repeated emotionlessly.
Gugu took a deep breath, hardening his resolve against the unyielding game pod.
“Please wait a moment, young master,” Nais reassured Gugu. “I have just sent the video to the master. He informed me that within ten minutes, scepter will arrive to install a high-end game pod for you.”
Upon hearing this good news, Gugu immediately made a face at Black Gold, thinking, “You think you’re so special? Well, now I have a high-end game pod too!”
Faster than expected, scepter arrived with a robot, politely asking where to set up the new game pod.
“Right next to this game pod,” Gugu eagerly pointed to Black Gold.
“You think humans are weak? I’ll show you how beastmen lose to me right next to you!”
“Alright,” the scepter said as they directed the robot to unpack the new game pod. A sleek, white high-end game pod appeared before Gugu, adorned with silver patterns at the base, both elegant and stunning.
“It’s really beautiful,” Gugu said, eyes sparkling with admiration.
“This was customized by Mr. Lie twenty days ago. Due to its high safety requirements and the need to pass a thousand tests without error, the production took a bit longer,” the scepter explained with a smile. “This game pod is a ‘family type.’ It will cheer for you when you win, comfort and encourage you when you lose, and offer fairly objective suggestions…”
“Trash,” a cold voice interjected from the side.
Gugu saw the scepter’s mouth twitch slightly.
“Black Gold?” the scepter turned to Black Gold with a resigned expression. “By the production date, this is your junior. Its core structure is the same as yours and it has similar brain-like intelligence. Please take care of it.”
Black Gold turned off its lights. “Trash junior.”
“Sorry,” the scepter apologized to Gugu with embarrassment. “Black Gold’s thought pattern comes from a rather strict instructor from the First Legion. Sometimes it speaks harshly, but since the simulation person has already sacrificed, Mr. Lie does not allow us to modify it.”
Gugu looked at Black Gold in a daze, then shook his head. “It’s okay.”
“Alright, this game pod is now installed and ready for use. What would you like to name it?” the scepter asked while taking notes.
Gugu thought for a moment, recalling the crescent moon from Earth.
“Silver Moon,” Gugu said with a bright smile. “Let’s call it Silver Moon.”
“Silver Moon initiating,” a bright and cheerful voice announced, accompanied by flowing lights on the pod’s surface, dazzling and beautiful.
“Silver Moon activated. Hello, master~” Silver Moon greeted cheerfully. “Master, you are the cutest human I’ve ever seen. I’m so lucky.”
Look at that sweet talk. Gugu couldn’t help but smile happily. Silver Moon began scanning the surroundings for any dangers and soon noticed Black Gold nearby.
“Hello, master. I’m Silver Moon. What’s your name?” Silver Moon greeted Black Gold.
Black Gold remained silent.
“Is it broken, master?” Silver Moon suggested. “Should we repair it to avoid any threats to your safety?”
“It’s not broken,” Gugu said, puffing his cheeks as he looked at Black Gold. “It won’t let me use it because I’m human.”
Silver Moon attempted to scan Black Gold but was mercilessly blocked.
“Master, don’t be upset,” Silver Moon said without any hint of displeasure. “Beastmen often think that combat is their business while humans are to be protected, so it refuses to let you enter the second world for battle.”
Gugu was taken aback. Could Black Gold’s “you are human” actually mean this?
“But, sir, times have changed,” Silver Moon displayed a “heh heh heh” emoji at Black Gold. “Nowadays, the family-type game pods are the most popular!”
“Be quiet,” Black Gold said with noticeable irritation.
“I don’t have a mouth, just sound membranes and speakers.”
“Do we really need to put them in the same room?” The scepter looked worriedly at the two high-end game pods.
“Let’s put them together,” Gugu said with a smile, feeling pleased as he watched Black Gold clearly outmatched by Silver Moon.
“Please try it out. If everything is fine, we will be leaving,” the scepter said with a look of wanting to escape.
Gugu lay down in the game pod, closed his eyes, and upon opening them, the scene before him had completely transformed.
“Hmm?” Gugu looked around at the grassy field, where the grass blades were long and straight. Looking up, he saw a crescent moon. In the distance, a small wooden cabin stood quietly on a hill, with the sound of the wind rustling.
What’s going on? How did I end up back at the Singularity?
