ASBEG Chapter 15.1

Pure feelings (1/2)

Inside the villa.

The dark and narrow storage room was dead silent. The class president closed his eyes tightly. His whole body was trembling, his teeth were chattering, and he could hardly hold the corner of his clothes in his hand.

“Chenchen, where are you…”

Not far away, a soft female voice kept calling his nickname, like a mother who was worried that her naughty child was lost.

That wasn’t his mother.

His real mother… died a week ago.

He still remembered the day he received a call from the police and fell to the ground in disbelief.

From that day on, every day he spent was darker and more absurd than the day before. He didn’t even know how he went to school muddleheadedly.

The sweat-soaked cloth slipped out of his palm. The class president put his hands up to cover his ears, but he could still hear the sound of a heavy object hitting the ground as it moved along the corridor outside.

At the same time, there was the creaking sound of a door being suddenly opened from time to time. One could imagine that the owner of the sound was confirming his location room by room. The movements were very slow and seemed very sure that the class president could not escape from the villa.

The sound of metal dragging across the ground sounded.

The footsteps were getting closer.

It was teasing its prey.

There were two rooms left at most, and the monster would find him sooner or later. This thought made the class president feel like he was falling into an icy abyss.

He huddled up helplessly, tears streaming down his face. The scene from half a month ago involuntarily reappeared in his mind.

If… didn’t…

——If only I didn’t make a wish!

The class president didn’t know how the teddy bear had appeared in his room, and how he became so obsessed with making his previous decision.

It was during the night, half a month ago.

Perhaps it was because the noise of his parents smashing things was too loud, or because the words of the argument were too hurtful, that the class president could no longer do his homework that was too difficult for him and chose to hide in his room. He then found out that there was a doll in his schoolbag when he opened it.

It was just like the common teddy bears on the market, but only with two eyes.

Was it given to him by his mother?

His mother, whom he rarely saw but who called herself a housewife.

“You’re so useless. I ask you to take care of him at home every day, but his grades are still so bad!” His father’s furious face appeared before his eyes. The other person’s eyes were crooked and his extremely ugly face made him shudder. “How can I go out to dinner with people from other companies?”

The mother sneered. “Then why not take care of your child? You expect me to teach him all by myself? He’s lamebrained, what can we do about it!”

After taking several deep breaths, the class president tried hard to suppress his tears and shook his head vigorously, trying to put this self-mortifying conversation out of his mind.

Lamebrained, unpresentable…

It seemed correct.

Tears welled up in the class president’s eyes and he wanted to cry again.

As a male, it seemed that he couldn’t control his tear glands at all. It was really embarrassing.

It was not that he was unwilling to study; it was quite the opposite. When his classmates went out to play together, he always buried his head in studying hard. Even during physical education class, he deliberately pretended to have health problems just to stay in the classroom and study a little longer.

But it seemed that no matter how hard he tried, he could never master the subjects or excel in his studies.

It was so easy to handle class affairs, but he has trouble studying.

While he stayed in the classroom, the class president always noticed another person——

Jian Xie was also a student who never went out for activities due to health reasons.

He sat in the back seat, burying his head in his arms and catching up on his sleep, with his fluffy hair sticking out in all directions.

From time to time, a breeze blew the curtains through the gap of the half-closed window, and the white fabric would gently brush against the back of his neck, making the class president, who was watching him, slightly dazed.

So pretty…

He couldn’t help but think.

Since then, he has secretly observed him many times.

Jian Xie seemed very busy and always alone. He has never seen him study in his extracurricular time, but he was still among the top students in his grade.

Finally, one day, when no one was around, the class president plucked up the courage to invite him to his home.

However, under his expectant gaze, the other party refused after thinking about it, and did not make any further promise to meet again another day.

If my grades were better, would he agree?

The class president grabbed the little Bear’s hand and clenched it subconsciously. The words of his parents’ argument involuntarily echoed in his mind again.

His mind was empty as he numbly staggered towards the bed while holding the teddy bear in his arms. He lay on his back and stared blankly at the ceiling until he fell asleep unwittingly.

Before going to bed, the class president told himself again and again that he hoped his results in the monthly exam the day after tomorrow would be above average.

Even if it only moved up one rank, just one.

The class president never thought that this was the beginning of his nightmare.

Two days later, he did make progress during the monthly exam. Although only by one place, the class president was very satisfied. But just as he was walking back home slowly with his report card, he heard an unexpected news from the whispers of people passing by.

A classmate who usually performed better than him had suddenly knelt down and vomited for some unknown reason while taking the last subject.

The scene was extremely scary. It was said that the other person looked like he was going to vomit out his internal organs. He was sent directly to the school hospital and had to give up the last subject.

…Was it a coincidence? The class president thought hesitantly.

But just when he stopped and looked sideways, wanting to walk over and ask those classmates further questions, they suddenly walked away as if they were being lured by some kind of mysterious trick.

I helped you. In the void, there seemed to be an evil thought reminding him with a smirk.

The class president couldn’t help but shake his head and shake the thought from his mind.

The class president was the first to leave the classroom after school. He seemed to feel the weight of the report card in his schoolbag. It pressed on his shoulders and chest, but it could not stop his pace and his meager expectations.

Even though I’ve only improved by one place, this… can show them that I’m not completely hopeless, right?

But it didn’t work.

It was totally useless.

The class president looked at the report card that had been torn into pieces. The familiar argument echoed in his ears again. When he heard the word “divorce”, tears fell on the wet paper and he could no longer control his sobbing.

His parents’ indifferent reaction showed that he was not the real reason for their quarrel.

They had simply disliked each other for a long time and made a big fuss about their own child. In fact, they didn’t care at all about him, who was stuck in the middle and seemed superfluous.

Suddenly, the class president remembered the grinning little bear in his bedroom, and a secret laugh resounded in his mind.

Make one more wish. It may not necessarily work, but what if it really does work?

Almost hesitantly, he took a step towards the bedroom, but the moment he opened the door, he couldn’t help but let out an “ah” and take a few steps back in fright.

The little bear was grinning, but half of its face was soaked with blood, making its originally cute face look extremely hideous. Its entire body exuded a rotten smell that a cashmere doll shouldn’t have.

It was no coincidence that the classmate nearly vomited his internal organs and missed the exam.

There was a sudden buzzing in his ears as his consciousness felt like it was falling into an icy abyss.

His parents were still arguing. The ugly sound couldn’t even be blocked by the door. It meandered along the stairs, penetrated the door, and pierced the class president’s heart.

“Let’s divorce and move out tonight—”

“There’s no way I’d want a useless child like that.”

“Do you think I’d want to bring a burden with me? Don’t even think about it, unless you give me more money!”

The class president lowered his head in shame, but was dazzled by the doll in front of him. It grinned, as if silently mocking his embarrassment and clumsiness.

Heat instantly rushed to his face and a strange impulse made him uncontrollably rush forward, grab the little bear, and make his second wish.

I hope my parents won’t separate.

None of this should’ve happened. It was an accident. He was deliberately lured by the monster… Excuses like these couldn’t even convince him.

He was the one who killed his parents!

A day later, the class president stood numbly at the police station, clutching his school uniform jacket while listening to the person in front telling him the sad truth in a pitying tone, “The police are still investigating the cause of your parents’ car accident. But the initial judgment was brake failure. Please accept my condolences…”

Reportedly, when the ambulance rushed over, the experienced medical staff were so disgusted by the scene that they vomited.

The entire car had slid down a cliff for no reason on a mountain road and the car body was completely caved in. The two people died on the spot, their bodies crushed together by the extremely strong impact.

They were impossible to separate, the autopsy report said. The two victims could only be wrapped in one oversized body bag.

The class president nearly went insane.

He didn’t know how he got home, how he desperately grabbed the blood-covered doll with his hands, and how he screamed at it at the top of his lungs, hoping that his parents would come back instead of lying coldly in the morgue.

I hope they come back to me. The class president thought with sobs. I don’t want the previous wishes anymore, I just want them to come back!

He didn’t know if it was an illusion, but after he finished venting his anger, he heard a burst of undisguised laughter coming from the void.

The class president was dumbfounded.

Was it happy to see him break down like this…?

Was this just a form of entertainment for it to seek excitement?

The class president slowly slid down the wall and hugged his buzzing head. Although he was in extreme despair, he still held a glimmer of hope that it would let him go.

That night, a rainstorm suddenly came. The strong wind scraped the floor-to-ceiling windows, making them clatter. Raindrops hit the glass walls, and lightning flickered in the night sky.

The ringing of the phone was almost drowned out by the sound of the storm. If the class president had not been sitting in the living room in a daze, he might have missed this urgent evening call.

He slowly answered the phone. The moment the first words from the other party reached his ears, goose bumps started to crawl up on his arms.

“The bodies in the morgue are missing…”

Suddenly, a faint sound was heard on the quiet steps of the front door.

It sounded like rats gnawing at the door.

But it was actually closer to the sound of a key being inserted into a doorknob.

…Someone was back.

The class president didn’t dare look behind him. He could no longer hear what was being said on the phone. His breathing became rapid and his fingers that were holding the phone twitched nervously. At the same time, he heard a faint call from behind him, “Chenchen…”

Then, snickering was heard from the receiver.

The voice of the staff member disguised as a monster overlapped with the voice coming from behind him. One came from the front and one from behind the class president, trapping him in cold horror. “I returned your parents to you. What do you think of what I did?”
