“Do you want to check the call history first?” Jiang Yuduo flipped through the phone with that person.
“Cheng Yi won’t allow direct contact with this person,” Cheng Ke said. “He must have someone arrange it, and everything will have nothing to do with him.”
“Then how will you confront him? There’s no evidence,” Jiang Yuduo threw the mobile phone to Chen Qing. “Go and print out the photos in here.”
“We don’t need evidence,” Cheng Ke replied. “At this point, my word is the evidence. Whoever says otherwise won’t make a difference.”
Jiang Yuduo looked at him but didn’t speak.
The phone in Cheng Ke’s hand started ringing, and his breathing became uneasy. He took a deep breath, feeling his hands trembling. He didn’t know if he was angry or just cold.
He looked at the people in the car who were still struggling and cursing and applied a bit of pressure to his hands. If he were lucky, he might crush the phone.
The call connected, but it wasn’t Cheng Yi’s voice on the other side; it was a female voice.
“Hello, Eldest Young Master. Second Young Master is in a meeting right now, so he didn’t take his mobile phone,” the female voice said, sounded a bit surprised, probably not expected Cheng Yi’s phone to receive a call.
“How long will the meeting last?” Cheng Ke asked. He recognized the voice as Cheng Yi’s assistant, Xiao Tang. She was the only one who referred to them as the young master and the second young master.
“I’m not sure. It’s been almost an hour since he went in,” Xiao Tang replied.
“I’ll be at the company within an hour, and I’ll ask him to wait for me in his office,” Cheng Ke said, hanging up the phone before any further conversation.
“You’re going to the company to find him?” Jiang Yuduo frowned.
“Yeah,” Cheng Ke replied. “I’ll go now. Let Chen Qing lend me this big car. I won’t drive his small one; it’s too slow.”
“Are you going alone?” Jiang Yuduo stared at him.
“He’s always good at acting. He won’t do anything to me,” Cheng Ke said. “Besides, I’m going to his company to find him.”
“Then what are you planning to do to him?” Jiang Yuduo asked.
Cheng Ke glanced at him but remained silent.
“I’m going with you,” Jiang Yuduo said. “I don’t care if your judgment is correct or not. My judgment is that it’s not safe. What if he goes from acting to using martial arts?”
Cheng Ke couldn’t help but laugh.
Chen Qing was still very efficient in his work, truly living up to his title as the Great Protector. He quickly printed out the photos and then removed the memory card from the man’s mobile phone.
“What do we do with these two?” Da Bin asked.
“Let them go,” Cheng Ke said.
“I’ll give you two minutes to disappear,” Chen Qing held the door open and looked at the people in the car. “There’s no surveillance on this road. If you don’t leave within two minutes, you and this car will be mine. If you want to call the police, you can complain about injustice.”
The people in the car hurriedly packed up and quickly drove away with a smashed window.
Chen Qing pinched his watch. “Efficient, less than a minute.”
Cheng Ke got into the Land Rover, sitting in the passenger seat, while Jiang Yuduo drove. As they started the car, the back door opened, and Chen Qing and Da Bin got inside. There was also a tough-looking guy with the demeanor of someone recently released from prison.
“You…” Cheng Ke turned his head.
“Let me explain, Brother Ke,” Chen Qing said, “This is my client’s car. The paint has just been redone. He’s picking it up tomorrow morning, so I have to follow.”
“I have to follow Brother Qing,” Da Bin chimed in.
The guy recently released from prison crossed his arms and remained silent. His expression seemed to say, “I’m not getting out anyway.”
“I didn’t come here to fight,” Cheng Ke reminded them.
“Don’t worry, Brother Ke. We won’t go in,” Da Bin assured him. “San-ge will accompany you inside, and we’ll stay outside in case anything happens. If things get out of hand, we’ll step in to help.”
Cheng Ke didn’t say anything; it seemed useless to say anything. Jiang Yuduo had already driven the car out.
The journey to Cheng Yi’s company was quite long, even farther than going to his dad’s company building. Cheng Ke had promised to arrive within an hour, so he might not be too punctual.
As they traveled, the scenery outside the car window changed, sometimes familiar, sometimes unfamiliar. Changing cars also altered the views he saw.
Cheng Ke held the phone, occasionally glancing at its screen. The two individuals must have informed their superiors about their whereabouts, and Cheng Yi probably knew about it too. They wouldn’t contact him now, and perhaps they would interrupt an important meeting just to wait for him in the office, to show off that the young master of the Cheng family was nothing but a waste—a conceited waste.
Jiang Yuduo drove at a fast pace, and the trip seemed shorter than Cheng Ke had expected.
As they got closer to Cheng Yi’s company, Cheng Ke’s emotions became more complex. Leaving home, he had thought of never going back, but his feelings now were different from what he had imagined. After today, he truly wouldn’t be able to go back.
He glanced at Jiang Yuduo. After today, the only constants left in his life would be Xu Ding, his friend, the theme restaurant, and… he was still unsure how to interpret Jiang Yuduo’s state of mind.
But despite his seemingly small and somewhat chaotic life, he didn’t feel panicked. The only emotion he experienced was a tinge of disappointment.
Upon closer examination, he realized that his life had always been quite empty.
“Is this it?” Jiang Yuduo asked.
“Yes, there’s a parking lot entrance next to the building,” Cheng Ke pointed it out. “Turn there.”
“This building belongs to him?” Chen Qing asked from the back seat.
“No,” Cheng Ke replied, “the top two floors.”
“Not bad! Your dad’s group has such a huge building,” Chen Qing remarked. “When we go up later, it’s too far to wait downstairs.”
Cheng Ke thought for a moment. “I’ll see you there in a bit. Just wait in the guest area.”
“Sure,” Chen Qing agreed.
After parking the car and entering the elevator, Cheng Ke pressed the button to the top floor.
The elevator started its ascent, and due to the non-peak hour, it moved silently and smoothly.
As the elevator approached their destination, Chen Qing suddenly said, “Why do I feel a little excited?”
“If you’re still excited when the elevator doors open, you should take it back down,” Jiang Yuduo quipped. “You can wait in the car. We’ll handle this.”
“No,” Chen Qing said, “I suddenly feel calm again. My heart is at ease now.”
Just as he finished speaking, the elevator doors opened.
Cheng Ke stepped out, and after turning a corner, he saw the entrance of Cheng Yi’s company.
The glass doors looked ordinary, and the reception desk with two young ladies was visible from outside. It all appeared like any other typical company.
Cheng Ke was familiar with this place; he had frequently accompanied Cheng Yi and entered their father’s company through this entrance.
As soon as they stepped out of the elevator, one of the receptionists noticed them and immediately picked up the phone. The other warmly greeted them with a smile.
Cheng Ke glanced at the wall beside him, seeing their reflections looking slightly menacing. The four people behind him might appear as if they were here to cause trouble.
“Mr. Cheng,” the friendly receptionist bowed respectfully. “Boss Cheng is still in a meeting and will be out shortly. Please wait for a while.”
It was clear that even entering the office was not allowed; they were being blocked at the entrance.
Cheng Ke turned to Jiang Yuduo and said, “Wait for me here. I’ll go in.”
“Sure,” Jiang Yuduo replied, nodded, and gestured to Chen Qing and the others to sit on the reception sofa. They made themselves comfortable, and Da Bin even asked the receptionist for water.
Cheng Ke looked back at Jiang Yuduo, then confidently walked towards the entrance of Cheng Yi’s company. He knew they wouldn’t be able to stop him.
As he made his way through the office area, he felt the gazes of the employees on him. They all recognized him as the useless young master of the Cheng family, the heartbroken brother of their promising Mr. Cheng.
When Cheng Ke reached the corridor, he noticed Xiao Tang rushing out from Cheng Yi’s office. She must have received a call from the front desk, and now she was trying to prevent him from entering.
Seeing him, Xiao Tang was briefly surprised but quickly composed herself, approaching him with a smile. “Eldest young master, you came just in time. The second young master has just returned to the office.”
Cheng Ke nodded, acknowledging his good timing. Xiao Tang hurriedly opened the door to Cheng Yi’s office, announcing his arrival.
Without waiting for the door to be fully opened, Cheng Ke pushed it and walked in.
Cheng Yi stood up from his desk, a puzzled expression on his face. “Brother, what’s the matter? Why are you in such a hurry?”
Cheng Ke walked to the desk, wordlessly gazing at Cheng Yi.
Xiao Tang asked if Cheng Ke wanted coffee, but he declined. He then instructed her to leave and close the door behind her.
Once alone, Cheng Ke unzipped his coat and placed the printed photo on the table. He pointed at it and said, “You didn’t take pictures of me and Jiang Yuduo being intimate, is it because you can’t get money for the photo of us going to bed?”
Cheng Yi was taken aback, examining the photo closely. He frowned, seemingly puzzled. “What’s going on here?”
“Stop playing,” Cheng Ke said, “Just answer me one thing.”
Cheng Yi continued to frown, remaining silent.
“What exactly are you trying to accomplish?” Cheng Ke asked, frustration evident. “I gave you an hour’s notice. With your intelligence, you could have come up with more than one reason. Just pick one and end this charade.”
Cheng Yi’s expression didn’t change. He propped his chin with his fingers, poking at the photos on the table. “Let me ask you, what use are these photos to me? Everyone knows that you like men, so what threat could these photos pose to you?”
“I have to ask you,” Cheng Ke said, staring directly at him.
“Brother,” Cheng Yi leaned closer, his tone serious, “I honestly don’t understand why you’re targeting me like this. Why do you always think I’m causing you harm? Why?”
Confronting Cheng Yi face-to-face, Cheng Ke found it difficult to bear his demeanor. Cheng Yi could maintain composure better than anyone else, and that only made Cheng Ke more restless.
According to his past self, he would have probably walked away from this situation, not bothering to question Cheng Yi further. But now, with the changes in his life, he accepted things differently, and he no longer wanted to investigate the reasons. Yet Cheng Yi was like an annoying thorn that unexpectedly surfaced, neither causing pain nor hurt, but creating unrest.
Cheng Ke decided that there were some things, some people, he no longer wanted to endure. The unavoidable relationship between him and Cheng Yi needed to be broken.
Without warning or giving Cheng Yi any chance to prepare, Cheng Ke raised his hand and slapped him across the face. The office fell into an eerie silence.1YES PLS CHENG KE GOOO
Cheng Yi, frozen in shock, couldn’t dodge the slap. Growing up, Cheng Ke never initiated a fight with him; it was always Cheng Yi who provoked him. Since junior high school, there had been no physical altercations between the two.
This slap was something Cheng Yi could never have imagined, not just within an hour, but even in a year.
After a long pause, Cheng Yi finally looked at him and said, “Brother?”
“Are you recording this?” Cheng Ke stared back, “Have you already called Dad or Mom? Is that why you’ve been so cooperative? Does it suit you?”
Cheng Yi’s face changed rapidly, darkening from shock.
“You didn’t ask me today,” Cheng Ke pointed at him, “Only I ask you. Now I’m asking you why, and you have three seconds to answer.”
“Cheng Ke, what the hell…” Cheng Yi’s patience was running thin, but his eyes were still sending a chilling coldness.
“One… Two… Three.” Cheng Ke counted swiftly before delivering a punch to Cheng Yi’s nose.
Years of boxing practice gave Cheng Ke’s left-hand punch its full strength and impact, undiminished by the switch.
Cheng Yi took two steps back, bent over, and covered his nose, remaining motionless for a while.
“I asked you why.” Cheng Ke’s voice was calm and steady.
“Cheng Ke!” Cheng Yi finally raised his head and yelled, losing his usual composure, “Are you out of your mind?”
“If I don’t get an answer before leaving this place today,” Cheng Ke maintained his intense gaze, “You’ll witness what it’s like to deal with me when I’m truly insane.”
Cheng Yi remained silent but stared back firmly, his anger gradually intensifying as his breathing grew heavier.
“You think I had those photos taken, right? Even if you can’t figure out how I could use them to harm you!” Cheng Yi’s voice grew deeper and hoarser, his anger unconcealable.
“That’s correct,” Cheng Ke narrowed his eyes, “I’ve come to believe that you want to harm me, just as you decided not to let me go.”
“Now you’re just like your violent thug boyfriend.” Cheng Yi gritted his teeth and said each word with contempt.
“That’s right, right now, I’m just as wicked as my boyfriend,” Cheng Ke retorted, each word deliberate, “So hurry up and show those photos to our parents and make it clear that I’m a total waste; there’s no need to expect anything from me.”
“You despicable bastard,” Cheng Yi sneered suddenly, “You really think you’ve said it all?”
Cheng Ke didn’t respond, but Cheng Yi’s words sent a chill down his spine.
“Cheng Yi,” Cheng Ke dabbed a tissue on his nose, then let it drop, walking slowly towards Cheng Yi until they were almost nose to nose, “Is there anything else you’d like to say about my boyfriend?”
Cheng Ke’s voice cooled down, “You seem more interested in my boyfriend than I can tolerate. Do you want to come out?”
“Cheng Ke,” Cheng Yi stared at him, “Are you really not concerned if I tell our parents that your boyfriend isn’t just a street thug who fights and collects rent, but also an escaped lunatic from a mental hospital?”
