ALSS Chapter 48

[Gossip Chat] Did HJS officially stamp his relationship with LH? He was smiling so sweetly during the interview—if that’s not the look of someone madly in love, what is?

0L: And at 27:14, he was twisting his ring, wasn’t he? Are they secretly married already?
1L: Haven’t you seen the rumors? HJS chased LH for years before finally getting him. It’s said they’ve already registered their marriage overseas.
2L: Reply to 1L: Are you kidding? LH? What does he have that makes HJS chase him?
3L: Reply to 2L: Laughable. What does he have? Enough to become a Wan Zhu shareholder at 30. You tell me what he’s capable of.
4L: Come on, surely everyone knows by now that new shareholders require a board resolution. You really think HJS gave his lover a backdoor deal?
5L: Honestly, I’m starting to think HJS is actually LH’s lover. Cigarette lit.
6L: Reply to 5L: Me too…
7L: Reply to 5L: I’m even starting to believe HJS offered himself up to keep LH at Wan Zhu.
8L: I wasn’t sure about the rumors before, but I’ve seen so many now. The details vary, but two points stay consistent: HJS pursued LH, and they’re already registered overseas. So, it must be true.
9L: @WanZhuEmployees Hey, don’t we have some Wan Zhu staff here? Spill the tea! I’m so curious right now.
10L: Whoa, the stans on Weibo are losing their minds.
11L: Reply to 9L: I am, and I’ve interacted with the boss and Lin Assistant up close. What do you want to know? Not that I’ll tell you, lol.
12L: Reply to 11L: …You really didn’t have to.
13L: Hilarious. Watching you lot get slapped in the face is so satisfying. I said before HJS has always had a great reputation, and the two look super sweet together. You guys @-ing me like crazy calling me delusional—who’s laughing now?
14L: 11th-floor colleague, match a code? What floor is the beauty queens’ fridge on? BTW, I’m the one who said Lin Assistant was incredible and got flamed for “whitewashing” him. Let me add something: my department’s legal team has already compiled screenshots of every reply I got here. See you in court!
15L: Too funny. While you sour chickens are whining, LH is already asleep, happily counting his money.
16L: I still don’t get it. If it’s true, why not just announce it? Why did Wan Zhu mislead us by mentioning resignation?
17L: Reply to 16L: Obviously to bait you guys! Haven’t you read satisfying web novels? Without annoying villains as a foil, where’s the fun in face-slapping? The saddest part is you’re not even villains, just clowns without names in someone else’s story, haha!
18L: Reply to 16L: It was probably already decided. They just announced it casually. He’s a shareholder now—whether he’s VP or not doesn’t matter. Might as well leave it to someone else.
19L: Reply to 18L: Maybe the person replacing him is someone he chose.
20L: Can we all agree by now? HJS has incredibly high standards. Even if this was a sugar arrangement, LH must have something exceptional going for him.
21L: Am I the only one who wants to know how they fell in love? I can’t picture HJS sweet-talking someone. I need to know!
22L: A king is a king, and the queen is also a king. Meanwhile, the losers open their phones, check their bank balances, and rip open a pack of instant noodles…
23L: Reply to 14L: It’s 8th floor! Check the group chat; Sister A told Lin Assistant to send red packets. Go grab them!

Lin Hui scrolled through the forum, utterly bewildered. Finally, he picked up his phone and called He Jian Shan. “Care to explain why everyone’s suddenly saying you pursued me like your life depended on it and that we’re already registered in Vegas?”

It was absurd. Rumors claimed they had splurged in a Las Vegas casino, kissed passionately in the rain, and registered their marriage at dawn—complete with blurry silhouette photos! Not even cheesy dramas go this far anymore.

He Jian Shan’s voice came through faintly, followed by quiet murmurs before the background settled into silence. “What about this—do you like the version where I propose to you on a yacht filled with red roses while He Jian Chuan plays our love song on guitar?”

Lin Hui: “…Why is He Jian Chuan involved? Also, I don’t like red roses.”

“What do you like then?”

“White roses.”

“Oh—” He Jian Shan chuckled. “Come to think of it, someone did ask me what flowers I’d want at our wedding.”

Lin Hui feigned ignorance. “Who could that be?”

“Maybe the guy who turned me down three times before I forced him to resign for some proper rest.”

They both burst into laughter over the phone, the sound intertwining through the airwaves in an oddly electrifying way.

“I miss you,” He Jian Shan finally said softly.

Lin Hui glanced at the clock. It had been a week since they’d last seen each other.

“Why aren’t you coming home? I text you every day, and you just reply with a ‘1.’ If I didn’t call today, you wouldn’t have either.”

He Jian Shan didn’t argue. “Is the house sorted?”

“Yeah, the upstairs neighbors were considerate enough to hire someone to fix the issues. I even did some deep cleaning since it’s almost New Year.”

“What about the flowers?”

“I bought them already—got some for Jade Cloud Mountain too.”

“Guess how soon I’ll be home?”

Lin Hui could tell he was walking, and he chuckled. “Three minutes?”

Three seconds later, a knock came at the door.

When Lin Hui opened it, a bouquet of white roses greeted him, with He Jian Shan smiling behind them. After a week apart, seeing He Jian Shan again made Lin Hui’s eyes sting with emotion. As soon as the door closed, he couldn’t resist hugging the man tightly. He Jian Shan set down the roses and held him close, murmuring, “What’s wrong?”

Lin Hui buried himself in his arms, whispering, “He Jian Shan.”

“Hmm?”

“I missed you.”

He Jian Shan closed his eyes. “I know.”

“I was wrong. I’ll never keep anything from you again,” Lin Hui admitted, recalling the heartache of seeing He Jian Shan’s stunned reaction when he mentioned resigning. He never wanted to see that look again.

He Jian Shan patted his back gently. “The announcement said ‘Vice President Lin Hui resigns,’ but you still hold another title. Why wasn’t it mentioned?”

“I couldn’t bear to.”

He Jian Shan smiled. “I know. I understand everything.”

Lin Hui knew He Jian Shan had used his resignation to make a statement to the shareholders, seizing the opportunity to take control of the situation. The man’s silence over the past week was proof of his determination to resolve their issues efficiently, not letting anything else waste their precious time.

“Alright then, Mr. New Shareholder of Wan Zhu. Even if the formalities won’t be complete until after the New Year, you’re now officially someone who earns money lying down. Treat me to a good meal tonight?”

“I didn’t buy groceries because I thought you wouldn’t come home. Let’s eat out?”

“No need. I’ll have Xiao Nan Xuan deliver something. Didn’t you say you liked their stir-fried green beans?”

“Alright, saves us the hassle.”

Lin Hui took the white roses to prep them, noticing a small, elegant wooden box alongside the bouquet. Curious, he picked it up.

“What’s this?”

“Something delivered. Don’t worry about it for now. Let’s figure out what else you want to eat.”

After finalizing their dinner order, the two relaxed on the couch, chatting. Lin Hui pulled up his WeChat messages with He Jian Chuan and handed the phone to He Jian Shan.

“Look at your brother,” Lin Hui said.

He Jian Shan scrolled, finding row after row of “Aaaahhhhhh,” a clear sign of emotional turmoil. Amused, he shook his head before changing the subject.

“By the way, they caught the person who bribed the bar staff to access the surveillance footage. Guess who it was?”

Lin Hui tilted his head curiously. “A competitor?”

“Nope. It was someone from a media company.”

Lin Hui frowned. “The ones who run the gossip accounts?”

“Yes. They’re responsible for the viral post.”

“Are we suing?”

He Jian Shan’s eyes darkened. “Absolutely. They won’t just apologize and get off lightly. I’ll bankrupt them, making sure everyone involved trembles at the sight of a computer.”

Lin Hui smirked. “And the compensation?”

“Too dirty for charity. We’ll spend it—maybe a car or a watch?” He paused. “Though it might not cover the full cost.”

“I’ll cover the rest,” Lin Hui joked, patting his chest confidently.

After dinner, He Jian Shan handed Lin Hui the wooden box. When Lin Hui opened it, he was surprised to find three intricately designed kaleidoscopes.

“What’s inside?” he asked.

“Childhood starlight, the moonlight we shared, and the sunset when I fell for you,” He Jian Shan said.

Lin Hui was speechless, overwhelmed by the thoughtful gesture.

That night, the kaleidoscopes refracted colorful gems against the soft glow of the white roses, filling their home with warmth and light.
