ATISIUP Chapter 14

The morning bell rang, and Lin Huanyan climbed out of her comfortable, soft bed.

After getting herself ready, she casually took a bottle of nutrient solution and drank it down without thinking.

She had been drinking nutrient solutions ever since arriving in the star system, and she had tried almost every flavor, but compared to the delicious food from Earth, it was still too monotonous. Now, just looking at the nutrient solution made Lin Huanyan feel like vomiting.

She opened the door and saw the tall figure of a man sitting on the sofa, holding a bottle with one hand while the two small furry bundles below eagerly fought over it.

The station was located in the corner of the Eternal Star System, and there was no sun like on Earth, so there was no natural sunlight.

Daily life relied on artificial sunlight and lighting.

Coincidentally, in a recent package unboxing, Lin Huanyan had received a crystal chandelier from Earth.

The large chandelier spiraled down, with beautiful crystal beads forming tassels underneath, and golden, intricate branches holding a glass lampshade. Tiny light bulbs were hidden inside, and the overall design exuded luxury.

Now, it hung from the ceiling of the spacious living room, its warm yellow light reflecting off the transparent crystals, making the light even more dazzling.

It also made the man’s face more beautiful under the lights. As they say, the beauty of a person is enhanced under good lighting, and the longer one looks, the more attractive they appear.

Lin Huanyan was momentarily mesmerized but quickly snapped out of it. She had already spent a week with the man, and although she still couldn’t fully resist his looks, it was much better than when they first met.

She quickly walked up to the sofa. The man kindly made space for her, and the two little furballs, having had enough to eat and drink, sniffed and climbed toward her.

Lin Huanyan gently picked up one of the little furballs and began to inspect it carefully.

They were no longer the tiny, pink bundles they were when they were first born. At one week old, the little snow beasts’ eyes, ears, and limbs had started to darken, and the color would continue to deepen as they grew.

Looking at the little snow beast in her hand, which had begun to resemble a panda, Lin Huanyan couldn’t help but feel immense joy. She believed no Chinese person could resist the charm of a panda.

She was also very grateful to Gu Yinchen, who was skilled at taking care of the snow beasts. The two had gotten along well over the past week.

Lin Huanyan had lowered her guard around Gu Yinchen, and thinking about the upcoming star system delivery, she spoke up.

“The furniture I ordered is here. Could you help me move it later?”

When Gu Yinchen heard this, he naturally agreed. As a man with a clever mind, he knew how to take advantage of the situation. He could tell from Lin Huanyan’s tone that she was starting to let her guard down.

Before, she had been distant and polite, but now, her attitude had shifted towards becoming more familiar.

It wasn’t in vain that he had put in so much effort. As the head of the Tianyu Star Pirates Group, he had spent sleepless nights learning how to care for snow beasts, seizing every opportunity to feed them and clean up after them.

After a week of hard work, he had finally started to gain her acceptance.

Gu Yinchen was good at seizing opportunities, so he suggested, “How about I go with you to the front lab? When the delivery arrives, I can just bring it over, saving you the trouble of notifying me.”

Lin Huanyan hesitated for a moment, thinking that the black hole laboratory was well-known to be useless and had no special secrets. She agreed.

“Alright, come with me.”

Lin Huanyan walked ahead, and the man’s tall figure made her seem even smaller and more delicate in comparison.

But in reality, although she was only 168 cm tall, which was shorter than those fashion models, it was still considered a good height, and her body proportions were excellent, with long, slender legs.

Since she had already allowed Gu Yinchen to follow her, she wasn’t too concerned and openly introduced each room to him.

“This is the package reception room, this is the control room, this is the storage room, and that’s the medical room…”

Finally, she led him to her research lab.

“This is my lab, the largest one in the station. I do most of my work here. There are some instruments and a few display racks with items I usually research. Feel free to take a look; some of the things are quite interesting.”

Gu Yinchen nodded in agreement and replied, “Alright, I’ll just take a look around without disturbing your work.”

“Okay, go ahead.”

Lin Huanyan, seeing how seriously he was listening to her explanation and how interested he seemed in her words, didn’t stop him from looking around.

Gu Yinchen had secretly visited the lab before and even upgraded its security system.

But he still paid attention to Lin Huanyan’s introduction. He enjoyed listening to her talk.

Over the past week, while Gu Yinchen didn’t fully understand Lin Huanyan, he had become quite familiar with her personality.

He realized that Lin Huanyan wasn’t fond of socializing and preferred staying at home. She liked snow beasts and was a bit slow to warm up to people. If you wanted to get closer to her, you needed to spend more time together.

It was because of this understanding that he had adjusted his approach. He was now patiently and carefully getting closer to her, rather than rushing in, which would have likely scared her away.

Gu Yinchen stood in front of the display rack, looking at the strange items that he couldn’t name.

There were ornaments in the shape of small animals that he had never seen before, a few cards, a round ball, and some metal objects that he couldn’t name…

Gu Yinchen realized that his vast knowledge was being put to the test. He could only roughly guess the purpose of some items, while others were beyond his understanding.

However, considering that these things came from another world, he could understand.

But looking at Lin Huanyan, who seemed quite familiar with these objects and was very skilled at using them, he recalled seeing her take a few of them and help decorate his bare bedroom, making it feel cozy and natural.

His gaze moved to the shelf nearby, which was occupied by a solitary small pot that looked rather unremarkable.

But Gu Yinchen immediately recognized it as a rare and pure plant, and it appeared to be of a high grade.

Standing in front of it, he didn’t feel the chaotic and noisy aura he usually experienced. Instead, he sensed a life force.

Turning back to look at Lin Huanyan, who was still busy unboxing things, Gu Yinchen tentatively extended his spiritual energy to touch the strange plant, which resembled a stone.

In an instant, a cold aura rushed toward Gu Yinchen, directly entering his brain.

Gu Yinchen was startled and was about to block it, but then realized that his brain, which usually became agitated due to his high spiritual energy, was temporarily calmed by the influx of this energy.

Although his mind soon became restless again, it was noticeably more stable than before.

This effect was quite impressive. Gu Yinchen frowned and pondered. This was more effective than the expensive plants he had bought at the auction.

He was curious about the pollution level of this strange plant.

“Yanyan, can I take a look at this plant?” he asked.

Lin Huanyan looked up and saw that he was pointing to the stone flower pot.

This stone flower was the first plant she had received in an interstellar delivery and had successfully kept alive.

At first, she was very excited because she had accomplished something that even starry researchers couldn’t, and she planned to keep going. However, she hadn’t received another similar delivery since then, and her interest gradually faded. She only asked the robot to water it on schedule and didn’t manage it much after that.

But now, seeing it, it seemed to be doing quite well.

“Go ahead, just don’t break it,” she replied.

With Lin Huanyan’s permission, Gu Yinchen began his examination. He took out a pen-shaped device from his space ring.

It was the latest model of a pollution testing pen—small, portable, and highly accurate.

He pointed the pen’s tip at the plant and pressed it lightly. The display screen showed a “0,” with no change at all.

He pressed it a few more times, but the result was still the same. Was the new testing pen broken?

Gu Yinchen wasn’t ready to give up. He took out another one from his space ring and tested the plant again. The result was still the same.

This didn’t make sense. This pen had been modified by Ji Shutong, and he didn’t expect it to be so unreliable.

Suddenly, he thought of a possibility, one that seemed almost impossible.

Gu Yinchen took a few steps back, casually clicked a button in the air, and checked the display screen. The number read 3.6%. This was already a very good result, as it was his highest-level protective shield that could block most of the pollution and radiation, though it couldn’t achieve zero pollution.

He then pressed the pen against the plant again, keeping his eyes fixed on the display. He watched in astonishment as the number changed from 3.6% to 0%.

It was indeed zero pollution. Gu Yinchen’s gaze toward the strange plant completely changed. There was a sense of solemnity and shock.

Since the discovery of cosmic radiation’s harm to human bodies and minds, humans had been working tirelessly to reduce pollution. But even now, the best result humanity had achieved was lowering the pollution to 3%, and going lower had been impossible.

He hadn’t expected to encounter the first zero-pollution plant in the galaxy.

But what about Yanyan? Did she know about this? From her attitude, it didn’t seem like she cared much about this plant. Was it a coincidence? An accidental result?

Gu Yinchen’s mind was in turmoil. Even his usually strong resolve wavered for a moment.

But when he looked at the girl, who was focused on her task, her bright eyes were incredibly charming.

In a flash, Gu Yinchen realized that it didn’t matter whether she knew. He wasn’t here to explore any laboratory secrets. He came because he had found someone who made his heart skip a beat, and he was here to pursue the girl. Why bother with anything else?

Even if this plant had been researched by her, Gu Yinchen was confident that he could protect her with his abilities. If that was the case, why should he keep hesitating?

With that thought, he put the testing pen back in his space ring and continued examining other items.

Lin Huanyan, who was seriously unpacking, had no idea about the changes in Gu Yinchen’s thoughts.

After all, she came from Earth, and although she inherited the original owner’s memories, she didn’t know much about the interstellar world.

So, even though she had successfully kept a plant from Earth alive and knew it could help calm the mental energy, to her, it was just a slightly precious plant. She had no idea what it meant for it to be a zero-pollution plant.
