Lin Huanyan looked at the six packages in front of her, each wrapped in different styles, and was quite surprised. This was too much of a coincidence.
Six packages, from JD, SF Express, Postal Service, Best, J&T, and YTO.
Had the Black Hole become addicted to swallowing Earth’s packages and started collecting them too?
However, this had little to do with the packaging itself. What Lin Huanyan cared about were the contents inside the boxes.
She casually picked up the JD package, and it had a certain weight to it. Opening it with a small knife, she found an instant camera with a thick stack of photo paper.
Lin Huanyan immediately became interested. She had heard of the famous instant cameras on Earth, but due to her empty pockets, she had never bought one.
Excitedly, she found the instruction manual and carefully read it before assembling the camera.
The milk cow-colored instant camera was cute and pretty. Lin Huanyan gently pulled out the lens, and after the red light flashed, she aimed it at her desk.
A simple and unremarkable photo of the desk came out. Lin Huanyan flipped through it, not satisfied.
She picked up the camera again, ready to take a better shot. The camera shook across the whole lab, and inadvertently, it moved over to Gu Yinchen.
The man was entirely framed in the viewfinder. He stood tall and graceful, his long neck clearly visible as he looked up at the shelf above.
Lin Huanyan acted quickly, a soft click sound, and the photo popped out.
She hurriedly lowered her head to flip the photo, unaware that the man, who had been facing away from her, had turned his head, his gaze affectionate and gentle.
On the square photo, the man’s back was clear and handsome, making it hard to take one’s eyes off him.
Lin Huanyan was satisfied and carefully put the instant camera away. As for the photo, she hesitated. It was a candid shot, so she couldn’t just leave it out. In the end, it went into the drawer.
Her journal read: “A camera from another world that can quickly print photos, but the clarity is insufficient, and the operation isn’t very simple. Compared to current interstellar technology, it’s quite outdated, but it’s cute in design, and the playability is fun.”
The second package she opened was from the Postal Service. It was a small square box, and when Lin Huanyan opened it, she found a beautifully packaged gift box. She untied the ribbon and found a spoon-shaped, pointed item, and a round seal with an antique, elegant design. The bronze handle was inlaid with a large blue gem.
Inside, there were also glass bottles filled with small, flower-shaped pieces in different colors and a box of candles.
Hmm, this seemed like a sealing wax set?
Thanks to Lin Huanyan’s time spent on short videos from Earth, she recognized it right away.
Before she crossed over to the Star Domain, she had once seen a news report about a father exposing his son for drug use, leading the police to be called in, only to be caught in an amusing misunderstanding. The father had never seen this sealing wax set and had mistakenly thought his son was burning and pouring something dangerous, so he called the police.
This made Lin Huanyan curious about sealing wax. She had looked it up and got hooked on the variety of interesting shapes and colorful wax sticks, watching many videos.
Suppressing the urge to play with it, Lin Huanyan continued to unpack the packages.
The third one was from the fast-delivery company SF Express.
Inside was a toy packaging box, just slightly smaller than the delivery box.
Lin Huanyan was immediately drawn to it. The cover of the toy box featured a Baroque-style church model from LEGO.
This LEGO model was extravagant and bizarre, fully displaying the characteristics of the Baroque style.
Looking at the product description, it had quite a history. The LEGO set, called “The Secret of Carter,” was a mystery escape room-type set.
It was designed by the famous toy master PINK and contained more than 3,000 pieces, along with two figurines. The story was about a newlywed couple who were supposed to have their wedding at the church, but when they arrived, they found that all their friends, the priest, and witnesses were gone, leaving just the couple, who were then trapped inside. The players’ mission was to help them escape from the church.
Lin Huanyan wasn’t interested in the puzzle aspect, but she was fascinated by the LEGO model itself.
She had always wanted to decorate a room in a retro, ornate, and intricate style. She had already ordered custom furniture, which would arrive this morning.
However, finding similar style decorations had been difficult. While there were many different styles in the Star Domain, she hadn’t found anything like it.
To her surprise, she had stumbled upon this model, though with over 3,000 pieces, it would take some time to put together.
She pushed the toy box aside, leaving only the J&T and YTO packages.
The YTO package contained a small plush bear toy, which could be paired with the previous one of a white bear in suspenders.
Finally, the last package, from J&T, was palm-sized. Lin Huanyan didn’t use a knife and simply tore open the seal with her hands.
A pack of seeds appeared. They were oval, dark brown in color, and Lin Huanyan immediately recognized them as lotus seeds.
She had grown them before. They were easy to care for—just drop them in water at an appropriate temperature, change the water every day, and after they sprouted, change the water every few days.
Lin Huanyan looked at the seeds in the small bag, surprised that the plant she had been eagerly waiting for had finally sprouted today, something she had been longing for but never received before.
Moreover, all the packages she opened today were great; none were disappointing, and they were all interesting. She was really lucky today.
While thinking this, Lin Huanyan immediately went to the plant rack.
By the way, Gu Chen had been fiddling with something in front of it earlier and had asked her about it. It seemed he was interested in the plant.
“Achen, do you like this plant? I saw you staring at it earlier.”
“Yeah, I found its shape quite strange. I’ve never seen it before, so I was curious.”
“This one? It’s a plant that fell out of a black hole. It’s said to be from another world, so it’s not like regular terrestrial plants.”
Gu Yincheng listened carefully, thinking that it indeed was different. Plants from outer space certainly wouldn’t have any pollution.
Yet, he couldn’t help but casually probe, “It looks like you’re taking good care of it. It seems so lively. But why is there only one?”
At this, Lin Huanyan also looked upset. “I can’t help it. When I came to this lab, all the plants here had died. Not a single one survived. Since I arrived, this is the only plant I’ve unboxed so far. Besides this, I’ve only got some seeds I just opened.”
As she spoke, she waved the seeds in her hand for Gu Yincheng to see.
Gu Yincheng chuckled at her slightly gloomy expression and felt that she seemed more relaxed around him now.
“Wait a second,” Lin Huanyan suddenly exclaimed. “I forgot, there’s another one.”
Gu Yincheng watched as she quickly shoved something into his hands, saying, “Help me hold this,” and ran off.
Standing still, Gu Yincheng looked at the plain-looking dark seeds in his hand and then glanced at the plant in the small pot beside him.
He took out a pollution content testing pen from his space ring, planning to use this chance to confirm his suspicions.
Soon, the data appeared: 0.5%. It wasn’t zero, but it was very low—much lower than the 3% minimum of interstellar plants.
At that moment, Lin Huanyan returned, holding a round object in her arms. It looked dark green and heavy.
Gu Yincheng quickly set aside his testing tools, rushing to help her place the “ball” on the table.
“I almost forgot about the plant,” Lin Huanyan said. “I froze a watermelon earlier.”
“Come, come, let’s see if it’s still good to eat.”
As she spoke, she moved a square testing device over and aimed it at the watermelon.
“3.6%. This data is good; it’s safe to eat.” Lin Huanyan knew this stuff. In the galaxy, things with pollution levels below 20% were considered edible; anything above could cause severe harm to the body.
However, Lin Huanyan frowned as she held the small package cutter, realizing the lab didn’t have a proper knife.
She turned her hopeful gaze to Gu Yincheng. “Achen, do you have a clean knife? Let’s cut this watermelon.”
He didn’t disappoint her. From his space ring, he produced a white knife, gleaming and of apparent high quality.
“You cut it vertically into two halves first, then cut each piece in half again, into smaller chunks,” he said, following her instructions without hesitation.
The dark green watermelon was sliced neatly with the sharp knife, revealing its red, translucent flesh, which looked so appetizing.
Lin Huanyan’s mouth watered uncontrollably as she hurriedly urged Gu Yincheng to start eating.
The watermelon’s flesh was sweet and cold, its juices bursting in her mouth. The taste was so refreshing it almost made Lin Huanyan tear up—after drinking nutrient liquids for so long, this was a true delight.
Even Gu Yincheng, who was used to eating all sorts of luxurious delicacies, was impressed. This watermelon was indeed excellent, even better than the so-called “soul fruit” of the interstellar world.
Watching Lin Huanyan enjoy the watermelon with squinted eyes, Gu Yincheng couldn’t help but smile, still eating leisurely. Though he was eating watermelon, his movements were elegant.
Gu Yincheng felt he should seriously reconsider this so-called black hole lab. It hid so many good things.
Of course, he didn’t know that it wasn’t the research institute’s fault. Ever since the discovery of the portal to another world, the institute had attached great importance to it, sending numerous researchers to study it.
However, in the beginning, the packages weren’t as frequent as now—receiving one package a week was already quite rare, and it often contained useless items like tissue paper or balloons. Occasionally, there were plants or animals, but they were all attempts that failed to thrive.
As the number of packages increased, so did the variety of plants and animals, but many of the later researchers were just killing time here and didn’t compare to Lin Huanyan, who seemed to have some sort of cheat code.
The researchers, seeing these unfamiliar plants, would never think of eating them. Knowing they couldn’t keep them alive, they simply tossed them away.
