ATISIUP Chapter 6

After hearing Lu Yuan recount the events from earlier, Lin Huanyan couldn’t help but feel a chill of fear. She had inherited the original owner’s memories, but the original Lin Huanyan grew up on a remote, impoverished planet. After being admitted to the Imperial University, she had spent her time studying on the capital star.

These two places—one so poor that even space pirates had no interest in raiding, and the other the capital of a superpower, where pirates wouldn’t dare attack—meant that she had little understanding of space pirates.

Listening to Lu Yuan’s detailed explanation, she finally realized that even space pirates were divided into various factions. They had been lucky this time to encounter Tianyu, a group that didn’t like stirring up trouble.

Lu Yuan’s explanation was thorough, and Lin Huanyan listened attentively, even learning several methods for dealing with danger.

Time flew by, and two more days passed. Lin Huanyan’s week-long journey was finally coming to an end.

When Lu Yuan knocked on her door again, it was to inform her to pack her things.

“Miss Lin, the journey is nearly over. In about half an hour, we’ll arrive at the interstellar space station. Please pack your belongings and head to the main hall.”

Her room was well-equipped, so Lin Huanyan hadn’t unpacked much. After placing her few belongings back into her spatial button, all she had left was the egg she had bought earlier.

She tapped the touch panel on the incubator, and a handle popped out from the top. Carrying the incubator, Lin Huanyan headed to the spaceship’s main hall.

Lu Yuan was already there waiting for her, standing tall and straight like a pine tree, embodying the very definition of poised military discipline.

Watching Lin Huanyan approach with the incubator in hand, dressed in a deep blue gown that accentuated her fair, snow-like skin and exquisite features, Lu Yuan felt his heart race.

Her smile seemed to melt his long-frozen heart, which now thudded uncontrollably.

At this moment, all he could think was that the week-long journey was too short. Just as he realized his feelings for her, they had to part.

But fortunately, he would continue to be responsible for her transfers in the future—there would still be opportunities.

Unaware of Lu Yuan’s thoughts, Lin Huanyan only noticed that his tone seemed gentler than before. Of course, she considered it might just be her imagination.

The spaceship passed through the chaotic spatial currents around the black hole, then through the transparent shield of the space station, and slowly landed on the docking platform.

Lu Yuan walked ahead to open the ship’s hatch and lower the gangway.

Lin Huanyan followed closely behind, descending onto the platform with him.

Finally, they arrived at a large, tightly sealed door. Lu Yuan stopped in front of it and motioned for Lin Huanyan to step forward.

Looking up, Lin Huanyan saw a rectangular sign above the door with the words “Black Hole Research Lab” prominently displayed.

Recalling the key given to her by the administrator at the government affairs hall, Lin Huanyan retrieved it from her spatial button and inserted it into the slot beside her. The outer panel slid open, revealing a small touchscreen.

After going through fingerprint verification, iris scanning, and several other procedures, the tightly sealed double doors finally parted to either side.

Lu Yuan had been watching her operate the controls the entire time. Only after ensuring she had entered the laboratory safely did he bid her farewell and leave.

Lin Huanyan watched as he returned to the battleship, and once the ship departed, she finally relaxed.

She realized she wasn’t suited to being around others. Although Lu Yuan was easy to get along with, his presence made her feel constrained, as though every move she made was being scrutinized.

Instead of rushing inside, Lin Huanyan casually placed the incubator on a table near the entrance and stepped back outside.

Taking a walk around the space station, she familiarized herself with its layout.

The entire station was built on a massive floating platform. Once a place of grandeur, its total area was impressive, recorded at approximately 1,500 square meters.

Of this, 600 square meters comprised the external platform, while the remaining 900 square meters were dedicated to building space.

The floating platform was rectangular in shape and divided into two sections, with a gap in the middle separating them into two rectangles.

One rectangle served as the research area, covering 900 square meters, with the laboratory occupying 600 square meters and the experimental platform taking up the other 300 square meters.

The place where Lu Yuan’s battleship had just docked was on this experimental platform.

Because the platform was designed to collect items ejected from black holes, it was built directly below a black hole, with the experimental platform positioned precisely underneath.

Imperial researchers had installed a specialized receiver on the experimental platform to slow down and stabilize objects emerging from the black hole, ensuring they landed safely in a designated storage area without being damaged.

The other rectangle was purely a living area.

As for the amenities, the benefits were excellent—a 600-square-meter living area, of which 300 square meters were residential buildings, and the remaining 300 square meters comprised a large platform.

Lin Huanyan was more than pleased. She had always dreamed of owning a home back on Earth, preferably with a platform for gardening and raising small animals.

Unexpectedly, what she couldn’t achieve on Earth seemed possible in the interstellar era. The thought of a 300-square-meter platform thrilled her immensely.

After finishing her tour, Lin Huanyan headed back. Now that the main entrance had been unlocked, re-entry was much simpler—she only needed to scan her iris.

Having spent a week on the battleship, despite the comfortable room, she still felt mentally and physically drained from traveling.

Retrieving the incubator she had left by the entrance, Lin Huanyan walked through the corridor toward the living area, completely ignoring the laboratory. Starting work immediately? That was out of the question.

She passed through a long hallway and arrived at a small white door—this was the entry from the workspace to the living area.

The procedure was the same: fingerprints, iris scanning, registration, and verification before the door finally opened.

Inside was a small vestibule with a few wardrobes, shoe cabinets, and stools similar to footrests on Earth. It appeared to be a changing area.

Beyond the vestibule, her view opened up.

A large, spacious hall unfolded before her, both wide and tall. But what delighted Lin Huanyan the most was its design.

The hall was rectangular, with one side entirely walled off and another side containing the vestibule she had just passed, along with several doors leading to other rooms.

However, one wall featured a massive floor-to-ceiling window, spanning nearly the entire length, offering a spectacular view of the starry expanse outside. The opposite wall also had a floor-to-ceiling window, albeit smaller, with a sliding door leading to an outdoor platform.

Lin Huanyan could already envision the scene: a platform filled with plants and small animals, creating an even more breathtaking sight.

But that was for later. For now, the vast, sparsely furnished hall with its plain furniture presented a significant challenge.

Placing the incubator on the table in the center of the living room, Lin Huanyan double-checked all the settings to ensure they met the required standards before leaving it there.

According to the seller, the snow beast eggs took at least a month to hatch. Since most customers didn’t want to wait that long, the eggs sold were usually already 25 days into the incubation process.

This meant that customers only needed to continue incubating them for five more days at home.

Naturally, Lin Huanyan had chosen such eggs. After spending three days with her on the battleship, the two eggs should hatch in another two days if all went well.

Lin Huanyan pulled up the layout of the living area on her smart device and began inspecting each room.

Although the black hole laboratory was once prestigious, that was in the past.

After its decline, the research institute dismantled most of its equipment, leaving only the bare minimum.

The space station’s minimum staffing requirement was simple: it must have at least one B-level researcher (mandatory) and one research assistant (optional, at the researcher’s discretion).

The institute had undergone a major renovation to improve the living area, now consisting of just two bedrooms. The master bedroom was reserved for the B-level researcher, and the assistant’s room for the research assistant. Both offered excellent living conditions.

In addition, there were several empty rooms that researchers could arrange freely.

The only drawbacks were the station’s remote location and the restriction on leaving at will. But aside from that, it was perfect.

The house was spacious, with customizable rooms, top-notch facilities, and the finest materials—costing even more than homes on the capital planet.

Lin Huanyan started by inspecting the empty rooms, finding them bare. She then checked the assistant’s room, which was quite large, featuring a small living room, a private bathroom, floor-to-ceiling windows, and basic furnishings.

However, Lin Huanyan wasn’t planning to hire an assistant. She preferred being alone, so the assistant’s room would likely remain unoccupied.

Finally, she went to the master bedroom, her home for the next few hundred years.

As soon as she opened the door, Lin Huanyan’s eyes lit up. It was far better than the assistant’s room, exceeding her expectations.

Technically, it wasn’t just a room but a suite. It had a bedroom, a living room, a study, a private bathroom, and a walk-in closet, rivaling the luxury of presidential suites on Earth.

The highlight was the sliding glass door leading to a private platform.

Lin Huanyan stepped outside and saw that the platform was entirely separated from the main living room by a wall, making it a personal space.

What made it even more remarkable was the swimming pool on the platform.

The pool was enormous, taking up half the platform’s area and positioned near the edge. It resembled the popular rooftop pools on Earth, but with a better view.

The space station, built on a floating platform, offered unparalleled views of the cosmos. Here, swimming was an experience far superior to any rooftop pool on Earth.

After all, where on Earth could you swim while being so close to the brilliant starry sky?
