BFWGSW Chapter 3

Yongxin Junior High School

Translator’s Note: Apologies for the late chapter. The auto-save on the Word doc I was translating on decided it wouldn’t work and only saved the first page I translated ( ̄(エ) ̄). My kokoro was brokoro ( ꒦ິ꒳꒦ີ )  *cue the sad violin background music*. Anyway, here’s the chapter. Happy reading!

The people of Dragon Country found that all the curses they had sent out on the barrage were censored and deleted, and they all calmed down. At this time, the live broadcast screen showed Lin Lin being taken back to the dormitory by Wang Meng’er.

I was actually from the dormitory next door to Wang Meng’er, but I was the only student there. Wang Meng’er’s expression changed. She said it would be okay to go to their dormitory to rest at night.

I don’t know why, but after the three of them entered my dormitory, they pointed to a piece of paper next to the bed and said: “The dormitory has living rules. If you are the only one in the dormitory, you must find a way to become more than one person.”

I was very relaxed and lay on the bottom bunk bed. “Doesn’t matter. Whoever disturbs my sleep will die. I’m a little tired and want to sleep now, so I’ll get some sleep first.”

Wang Meng’er was a little helpless and curious as to why this classmate was so arrogant. Moreover, she found it particularly difficult to communicate with Lin Lin. With such a strong fighting ability and having killed a teacher, the first thing she did when she returned to the dormitory was to rest and sleep. She was not in a rush at all.

Wang Meng’er, after locking the door to the dormitory, started talking to me with confidence about how I had killed the teacher.

“Yongxin Junior High School is a strange place where there are various rules to follow. There are a lot of ghosts and darkness in areas that some students can’t set foot in. If you don’t follow the rules, you will be eroded by this darkness and become the rations of the teachers and various school employees. Not only the students, but all the students can’t leave this school. You are new here, so you shouldn’t know.”

“Oh? How do you know I’m new here?” I stared at her,” Why are you talking to me so much? Whatever happens to me has nothing to do with you.”

Chen Lan was a little impatient next to her. She said: “Isn’t it obvious? You know nothing about this place, and you recklessly killed the teacher. We all came here for various reasons. You must follow the rules if you want to survive in Yongxin Junior High School.”

Zhao Zichen chimed in, “Yeah, you did that because you were helping your classmates who couldn’t stand the teacher’s behavior, right? We all understand.”

I laughed, “Rules, huh. So haven’t I already broken a rule by contradicting a teacher?”

Wang Meng’er laughed bitterly. What “contradicting the teacher”, ah? That teacher had obviously been turned into meat paste and thrown into the garbage by the janitor.

These three felt that the reason I got into trouble was to save my classmates, so they were quite kind to me. After giving me all sorts of precautions about the school, they were ready to go back.

I suddenly had a brilliant idea at this time and thought of something interesting, “Wait, you three. I would like to ask you ah, where is the principal’s office?”

Wang Meng’er shook her head, “The principal’s office can only be entered by certain people. We, with the identity of a student, simply can’t locate it and can’t get in.”

“Identity?” Why does a principal’s office need an identity when it’s just a principal’s office?

At that moment, a familiar mechanical tone rang out from the air.

【Triggered the side quest: Finding the Headmaster’s Office】

This game has side quests?

【Inquired about the clues to the principal’s office: 2% World Exploration.】

Wang Meng’er’s trio lived in the dormitory to my left. She invited me to live with them again, but I refused for the second time. I closed the door of the dormitory and then lay down alone on the dormitory’s bed to think about life.

From the information extracted from among the bullet screens inside the smartwatch, it seems that I’ve been chosen by some mysterious force to participate in this game. If the game fails, then the country I represent will be attacked by the Strange World. Well, this kind of thing had already happened to me over a month ago. So, was I hallucinating or was it real that I was fighting every day in the mental hospital?

That vague feeling of a blow, and heads floating all over the place… If these were creatures of the strange world, then it proved that Dr. Lee was telling the truth when he claimed that I was cured when I was in front of the mental hospital.

Just as I was lying down, a black shadow suddenly appeared beside the bed. The black shadow bent down and approached me and was kicked by me reflexively. The black shadow disappeared, as if what I had just seen was an illusion.

No way, I just thought I was cured and now I’m seeing the same things for no apparent reason. I’m not having a psychotic relapse, am I?

The time in the dormitory is 11:30 p.m. There’s 15 minutes left of the lunch hour scheduled by Yongxin Junior High School. The dormitory had the timetable of Yongxin Junior High School. Classes are from 8 o’clock until 11 o’clock , and after lunch you can rest. It’s said to be a school, but there’s not a lot of academic pressure. I thought of the power that filled my entire body when I killed my teacher. According to the game prompts, it was an ability I had been able to extract. Within my mental boundaries, everything was something that could be subdued by me.

It’s pretty cool and awesome.

I decided to take advantage of my lunch hour to look around for some clues, and with that in mind, I immediately threw myself out of bed. I opened the door to my dormitory and decided to go to the cafeteria for lunch.

By this time there have already been a stream of students from the dormitory going out to eat. Most of them have three or four people lined up in a row and were neatly going down the stairs. I saw a couple of rows of people like this, so I curiously followed a group of people downstairs to the door of the first floor. I found that there was actually a dormitory manager outside the door of the girls’ dormitory. The dormitory manager inquired about the neatness of the queue. Only those who lined up in a neat line could go out of the dormitory to eat, otherwise they could only go hungry.

I quietly followed a few people from one of the dormitories to the dormitory manager. The dormitory manager scanned us back and forth, and upon seeing me, inquired why I was standing out of line.

A few people from that dorm instantly noticed and looked back at me. I was still wearing my blood-stained hospital gown, and everyone who looked at me was horrified.

The dormitory manager gave a wicked grin, “Since there’s a problem, you can’t go out to lunch yet.”

“This old lady is hungry and just wants to eat.” I replied with a straight face, “Why can’t I go out to eat? I go to school here and pay my tuition. You’re a dormitory manager who doesn’t treat me right and barks at me, even though I’m your bread and butter. Do you see the school paying you a salary if there are no students attending? Mind your own business. I’m just going out to dinner.”

The dormitory manager’s face began to distort like powdered coffee mixed with milk, crumbling and twisting. Her teeth fell out, followed by her scalp. A dark force surrounded us from all directions, mixed with the sound of blood and flesh bubbling and sizzling. I was not sure which part of the human body it was again. I was so disgusted by the hostel manager that I immediately unleashed my powers.

“Spirit Boundary!” My sanity value dropped by another quarter. I hadn’t recovered from what I had consumed earlier, and now I was actually about to bottom out before the day was over.

I couldn’t care less about that anymore. I raised my foot and kicked at the hostess. Isn’t she covered in fallen flesh and scalp? I’ll just rip her face off.

“Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!”

This is my second murder in the Strange World.

“I said I want to eat, I’m hungry, I want to eat, I want to eat! I’m going out to eat right now! I’ll eat you if you don’t let me eat!” I yelled and started to go crazy. The dormitory manager was obviously frightened by my crazy appearance. She had probably never seen this kind of student and hurriedly crawled back to her room, not daring to come out, leaving only the two bloody handprints I slapped on the dormitory door.

I happily smeared my bloody hands on the white wall and left the girls’ dormitory building towards the dining hall, since the dormitory manager’s abrupt escape had resulted in no one at the door looking for a fight to manage the incoming and outgoing students.

I felt even more tired after using my ability. It made me wobbly and a little bit confused. After following the group to the cafeteria, some students looked at me differently. All of them stayed away from me. I followed them into the cafeteria and took the student card attached to the student handbook to buy food.

The meal in the cafeteria was one dish and one soup. It looked watery and as bad as the hospital meals. I decided to follow the rules for a little while until my sanity value was restored, so I honestly took my meal and found a seat to sit down and started to eat. I had just taken two sips of the seaweed soup when I realized that something wasn’t right.

Why is there a diamond encrusted nail art piece in kelp soup?

I picked out the human fingernail pieces and continued to eat. I couldn’t help it. I was just too tired and lazy to bother with the cafeteria’s lunch lady.

No one dared to sit at my table. Just looking at me covered in blood scared off a lot of people. It wasn’t long before a boy sat down across from me with his meal and looked at me with a smile on his face.

“You’re new here, aren’t you? Why are you covered in blood?”

According to the rules, men and women are not allowed to talk to each other. I shook my head without opening my mouth.

The boy looked down at the food I was eating and suddenly paled. He asked me to look at what he was eating. I realized that the soup this boy was eating was different from mine; it was a very common tomato and egg soup. The boy covered his mouth and laughed as he asked me, “Did you really eat it? Cafeteria meals are best eaten without meat.”

But I’ve already eaten it. My student handbook doesn’t even have any specifics about what I can eat in the cafeteria, it just tells me I can’t eat meat buns.

“Did you read the cafeteria manual? It’s right by the front door.”

The entrance? I followed the boy’s finger to the notice board next to the entrance. It did have something posted on it, but I didn’t notice the thing because I had lost too much sanity and wasn’t in the right frame of mind to notice it.

I got up and went over to the cafeteria pamphlet and found a few rules written on it.

Cafeteria Rules:

1. Meals in the cafeteria are a fixed one-dish meal. Students should eat as many vegetables as possible, not meat.

2. If you are approached by someone in the cafeteria, please do not talk to them.

3. If you find something strange in your food, please do not be frightened or make a noise. You can calm down and continue to eat, or you can take the meal with the foreign object and ask the food server for a different bowl.

4. Mealtime is one and a half hours. After that time the cafeteria will be closed, so please do not stay too long.

5. Non-dining areas are not places where students should be, so please stay in the dining area if possible.

There were five rules in total, and I read them for a while before continuing back to my seat to eat as if nothing had happened.

The boy sitting across from me introduced himself, “I feel like you’re special. I’m Jun Chen from 2nd year Class 3. What’s your name?”

I was finished eating by now and had picked the nails and bones out of my meal and thrown them on the table. I burped and was ready to get up and go back to the dormitory to sleep. The boy obviously didn’t want me to go and said that I had already eaten “that” kind of food, and that it would be better if I didn’t go back.

“Have you broken a lot of rules? If you don’t listen well and follow the rules after this, you’ll soon be swallowed up by the contamination and become something else.”

I’m not interested in what this guy has to say, I’m too sleepy. All I want to do now is go back to rest.

By the time I walked back to the dormitory building, the dormitory manager I had beaten up and assaulted was sitting in front of the entrance in one piece.

I was a little confused. I had obviously torn that monster dormitory manager’s face off, so how come she’s perfectly fine and doesn’t look injured at all?

The dormitory manager didn’t obstruct me. I went up to the second floor of dormitory 206 directly. I went to sleep as soon as I entered the room. It wasn’t long before Wang Meng’er’s dormitory also came back from dinner. I heard the three of them talking next door.

I slept for one afternoon, and I didn’t wake up naturally until 7:00 p.m. I heard banging and clanking noises from the dormitories to my left and right, cleaning and moving tables and chairs. I heard the sound of the hostel manager knocking on the door of another dormitory in the hallways. It should be a dormitory inspection.

A shrill female voice pierced into the depths of my eardrums, making it impossible for me to continue sleeping. I checked my SAN value1The author uses “SAN value” and “sanity value” interchangeably. You can let me know in the comments which one you’d prefer, or if you wouldn’t mind if it changes ~ and found that, after an afternoon’s rest, it had completely recovered. It seems that it can be restored through sleep and rest.

The people who were watching the live broadcast were once again dumbfounded. They were not aware that SAN values could be recovered through sleep. The last contestant had not succeeded in recovering from sleeping at all and ended up going completely insane and killed himself. There has been some speculation as to whether this could be a natural benefit of mental illness.

The barrage began to analyze it: Usually after using too much SAN value, people would more or less experience different degrees of hallucinations. They would become very strange, unable to maintain their sanity, and would become even crazier. But psychosis is usually a SAN value 0 existence, and in her case, the various negative effects of dropping SAN values have been neutralized, and then transformed into something that can be recovered by simply resting.

People on the bullet screen found this analysis plausible, and even the attending therapist of this contestant’s previous psychiatric illness came over to speak. He described what this contestant had been like in the hospital before, including battling evil spirits when the devils descended on her, and chasing down nurses in the hospital in order to retrieve her hospital bill.

The doctor’s words made all the people who watched the live broadcast even more complicated inside. Fighting with and killing the strange and evil spirits and winning; is this a plot that human beings would have? Everyone knows exactly how many people died in the month when that supernatural calamity struck.

Not too many people were killed in that hospital compared to other places, because the mental hospital had a much more sinister plague at the time.2So, this sentence confused me quite a bit. I’m assuming they’re referring to Lin Lin as the “sinister plaque” because of her bizarre behavior. You can let me know your thoughts in the comments.

I was laying in bed reading the discussions on my smartwatch. At this time, the footsteps of the dormitory manager have been getting closer and closer to my dormitory. She knocked on the neighboring dormitory of Wang Meng’er and the other girls. She left the dormitory room after about ten minutes. Originally, the next in line should have been my room, but when the hostess entered the door and met my eyes, she was instantly too afraid to show her true face. I wondered how many students who had failed the dormitory inspection had been eaten. With her mouth full of oozing blood and scraps of meat, those red eyes actually trembled in fear when they saw me.

“Am I that terrible?” I was about to get up to greet the dormitory manager.

Seeing this, the dormitory manager pressed on without checking my dormitory room. She put down a pass, merely probed her head and immediately left, vigorously shutting the door of my dormitory in the meantime.
