The dance party ended early, at two o’clock in the morning. Although the guests felt that Yan Sui was being a little impatient by taking the person back to the room, they could understand it since the wedding was a night of flowers and candles. Moreover, with fun-loving people like Gu Lang and the others here, the atmosphere would only be better. What’s more, even He Wan can’t control how Yan Sui behaves, let alone people like them who are not closely related.
A lively and bustling day came to an end, and all the guests had left. The servants were still tidying up in the living room. Uncle Xiao had already convinced Nanny Wang to go to bed, but he and Zhen Han were still talking besides the sofa, which had just returned to its original state. As for Yan Manjia and He Wan, they both went back to their rooms to sleep at around one o’clock.
Initially, He Wan didn’t want to stay at Yan’s residence, but Yan Manjia’s words bothered her too much. She didn’t like the Yan’s residence, but she still stayed anyway.
“Why are you here?” As he approached, Zhen Han looked at Yan Sui in confusion. Zhao Bing was also following behind him. It was clear that he had not just come out of his and Meng Ting’s room but that he and Zhao Bing should be doing something.
“You go ahead and handle it.” Yan Sui raised his hand to let Zhao Bing leave first. He continued to walk over, then sat on the sofa and asked Uncle Xiao, “Have you found out the matter clearly?”
“Yes,” Uncle Xiao and Zhen Han were also talking about this matter. “The lady didn’t take the key from my room today. She already had a spare key to your room.”
As for when she got it, Uncle Xiao thought it must have been quite a while——perhaps a year or two, or possibly even ten or twenty years. Yan Sui had always lived in that room; the decor had changed a few times, but the key to the door had never been replaced.
Yan Sui’s eyes were incredibly cold, revealing neither happiness nor anger. He lifted his eyes to look at Uncle Xiao, with a hint of indifference in his voice. “Have someone come and change all the keys in the house tomorrow. From now on, she will not be allowed to enter the study or bedroom when I’m not around.”
“Yes,” Uncle Xiao said with a slight bow.
“There are people locked up in the basement, and she is not allowed to go either.” Yan Sui added another sentence, then he turned to look at Zhen Han; his expression softened a little. “You all have worked hard today; go and rest.”
Uncle Xiao bowed again and left, but Zhen Han sat on the sofa next to Yan Sui. He had a completely disgusted look on his face. “What on earth was she thinking? It’s so disgusting.”
She has had the key to Yan Sui’s room hidden in her hand for so many years. Did she have some plans in mind? Or did she just want to peek into her son’s private life? Yan Sui is no longer seven or eight years old; he is now twenty-eight years old, and he has even married a male spouse. Anyone with a little bit of decorum wouldn’t behave like this.
Yan Sui did not answer his question, but the coldness in his eyes became a little more intense. Not only did Meng Ting have those terrible relatives, but he also had them. In a certain sense, they just had a blood relationship with them that couldn’t be washed away. From an emotional point of view, they didn’t count as any kind of relatives anymore.
Zhen Han looked at Yan Sui, whose expression was getting colder and colder, and sighed softly. He patted Yan Sui’s shoulder, “Don’t think too much about it. You should be happy that you are getting married today. Being disappointed by someone else is not worth it.”
When Yan Sui heard this, he thought of Meng Ting, and the corners of his mouth naturally curled up into a light smile, “I’m very happy.”
Zhen Han glanced at Yan Sui’s sudden melted appearance and curled his lips. He realized he had been worrying for nothing. He stood up and said, “In a while, you guys will be taking a plane out of the country to have some fun. I’ll be going back as well. If anything comes up, just give me a call.”
He had been staying in the old house these days, not because of Yan Manjia but because there were many matters relating to Yan Sui’s wedding. Neither his mother nor his aunts were reliable, so he, his cousin, could only take over. Now that the matter is settled, he certainly doesn’t have a habit of wronging himself.
“Wait,” Yan Sui said after Zhen Han turned around.
Zhen Han turned around and looked at Yan Sui with an equally cold expression. He thought Yan Sui understood him.
“I’ll take Meng Ting overseas. You come back every three days, look at Dahuang and Maoqiu, and send me a few photos once in a while.”
Zhen Han, who thought Yan Sui would persuade him to reconcile with Yan Manjia, almost choked on his breath.
“Got it, you wife slave!”
Zhen Han, stomping his foot, felt that his actions were too childish and left the living room with a snort.
Yan Sui sat in the living room for a while longer, going over things in his mind, before he finally got up and headed upstairs.
After changing his clothes, Yan Sui lay down next to Meng Ting. He reached out and hugged the person, kissed Meng Ting’s forehead gently, and then closed his eyes as well.
Meng Ting nuzzled the person, wrapped his hands around him, and hugged the person. His eyes were still closed, but he muttered, “Yan Sui, where have you been?”
“I went downstairs. Be good. I’m back. Let’s sleep.”
Meng Ting didn’t say anything after hearing this, and his grip on the person’s hand also loosened slightly. Even being drunk couldn’t help him sleep well, but he could sleep well when being held by Yan Sui.
However, the flight was scheduled for eight o’clock, so they didn’t have long to sleep. Around five o’clock, the two of them got up. Yan Sui packed up their belongings, while Meng Ting took Dahuang, who had gotten up early, for a walk. He then cuddled and stroked the still-sleeping Maoqiu, saying a final goodbye.
“You guys be good at home. “Dahuang, you must take care of Maoqiu. Do you understand?” Meng Ting reached out a hand to pat Dahuang. Dahuang’s injury was lighter than that of Maoqiu, so it healed faster. Just earlier, when he took it out, it started to frolic around.
“Woof… woof!” The first bark was soft and gentle, but the second turned fierce. Meng Ting followed Dahuang’s gaze and saw He Wan coming down the stairs, her expression dark as she looked over here, clearly reminded of the conflict between them that day.
The two people’s eyes met; Meng Ting turned around and immediately patted Dahuang on the head.
Dahuang let out a snarling sound and relaxed its guard, but still nestled close to Meng Ting’s feet.
Maoqiu yawned lazily, then finally opened its eyes. Its light blue eyes were clean and beautiful, and its fluffy hair had grown out a bit, so it was no longer as ugly as it had been when it first arrived at the Yan’s residence.
However, it is still very thin; it still needs some time to recover and grow before it can meet Meng Ting’s ‘fur’ and ‘ball’ expectations.
Meng Ting rubbed its head and put it on Dahuang’s neck. The two stared at Meng Ting with wide eyes, motionless. Meng Ting couldn’t help but smile, then squatted down and placed a kiss on the heads of both Maoqiu and Dahuang.
After the kiss, he picked up Maoqiu again and held Dahuang’s leash. He nodded his head to greet He Wan, who came closer and said, “Good morning, Mom.”
He Wan really couldn’t respond to her daughter-in-law’s words of good morning. She stared blankly, and then Meng Ting walked around her and left with Dahuang and Maoqiu.
After sending Dahuang and Maoqiu back to their respective nests, he went to the kitchen to find Nanny Wang and gave her instructions for a while. When he returned to the living room, Yan Sui had already come down with their suitcases.
“There’s so many things. You must have worked hard.” Meng Ting thought that Yan Sui would just pack a few clothes for them, but he didn’t expect that it was two big suitcases full of stuff. He just played with Dahuang and Maoqiu——he didn’t give Yan Sui any help at all.
He took a few steps forward, picked up a suitcase, and held his hand. “Nanny Wang has cooked delicious meat congee1肉粥 (ròu zhōu): Meat Congee. . You’ve worked hard, so you have to eat two more bowls.”
“Okay,” Yan Sui said with a slight smile on his face. He led him to put the suitcase to one side, then he led him towards the dining table.
“Where are Sui’er and Ting Ting going?” He Wan2T/N: Originally written as Meng Ting, but since it doesn’t make sense, I changed it to He Wan. at least still asked a polite question. Since he came down the stairs, Yan Sui has ignored her. He Wan remained dignified, her tone polite, but a hint of questioning seeped through.
Yan Sui took Meng Ting to sit down and gave him a bowl of congee before replying to He Wan’s question, “Going out.”
When he replied, his eyes were still on Meng Ting. He also gave him two more green vegetables and said in a low voice, “Eat slowly.”
The same overly brief words, but that attitude is a world of difference. He Wan is merely attempting to maintain an air of indifference; however, she is unable to maintain this façade any longer. “Is this how you talk to your mother?”
This early in the morning, He Wan is already looking for a fight. Nanny Wang and Uncle Xiao looked at this spectacle; their brows furrowed deeper, but they felt it wasn’t their place to say anything. Meng Ting swallowed a mouthful of food and turned to look at He Wan.
“Mom, your words are really strange. You asked Yan Sui a question, and didn’t he answer? Why is his attitude bad? He is obviously very good.”
He said this while turning to look at Yan Sui, “Don’t be angry; let’s eat.”
It was obviously He Wan who was upset with Yan Sui, but Meng Ting was worried that Yan Sui was the one getting angry. This appearance of protective behaviour already had a hint of the Yan family’s characteristic.
As he spoke, Meng Ting also served Yan Sui a bowl of congee, adding quite a few dishes.
“It tastes really good.”
Meng Ting was even more enthusiastic about Nanny Wang’s cooking than Zhen Han. A faint sheen of moisture lingered on his lips from drinking the congee, and as he looked up, it wasn’t exactly a flirtatious glance, but there was an unintentional charm about him.
Yan Sui smiled again, “Okay, I’ll listen to you.”
Meng Ting lowered his voice and leaned slightly towards Yan Sui. “You are good.”
Here, the atmosphere is warm and affectionate like spring, but He Wan was so enraged by Meng Ting’s two remarks that she trembled all over. Yet, anyone who heard Meng Ting’s words couldn’t find anything wrong with them. She wanted to explode, but for a moment, she couldn’t find a reason to make a scene.
She walked straight out; she didn’t even want to have breakfast in the old house.
