CFSGWM Chapter 39

I am A Big Star 10

After the surgery, once the effects of the anesthesia wore off, the wound on his leg began to throb intensely with pain. The doctor asked him some questions and then stressed the importance of cooperating with the recovery treatment. Otherwise, there could be lingering effects that would affect his future mobility.

Chu Yan half-listened to the doctor while his mind wandered. He only asked one question when the doctor finished, “How long will it take for me to be discharged?”

“At least a little over a month. But even after being discharged, you’ll need to rest and recover at home for a while,” the doctor replied.
Assistant Cheng Yang looked at Zhong Yu, whose beautiful face showed nothing but indifference. There was no hint of extra emotion. If it weren’t for his extremely pale complexion, Cheng Yang might have thought that Zhong Yu wasn’t feeling any pain at all, considering that his leg was broken.

But this time, the accident happened at the worst possible moment. The previous incident with the studio fire didn’t affect Zhong Yu’s rising career much, as he was lucky to avoid any major harm. However, this injury was likely to have a significant impact on his current endeavors.

After all, fan loyalty is fleeting in the entertainment industry; they often switch allegiances and follow the latest trends. While someone can become famous quickly, they can also fade into obscurity just as fast if their exposure diminishes.

Moreover, the entertainment industry is flooded with aspiring newcomers, appearing one after another like mushrooms after the rain. As soon as the spotlight moves away from someone, the public tends to forget about them easily.

As the nurse finished changing the bandages, Fang Dingyao walked into the room. She looked at Zhong Yu, who was leaning against the bed and reading a novel, and said, “Take good care of yourself. Director Zhao said they can use a stand-in for the final explosion scene. By the way, he sends his regards and hopes for your speedy recovery.”

“At least I’m lucky… and my appearance isn’t ruined,” Zhong Yu replied, considering that he relied on his looks for his career. “Besides, the filming is done, so it didn’t affect anything important… You can think of this as a little vacation for yourself.”

Chu Yan remained silent for a moment and then nodded with an “Mm.”

After Zhong Yu’s studio released a statement, the reporters who had crowded the hospital entrance that afternoon gradually dispersed. Fang Dingyao also had her own matters to attend to, so he rushed back to B City that same afternoon.

The two nurses in Zhong Yu’s hospital room were encountering a big celebrity, especially someone of Zhong Yu’s level, up close for the first time.

Although they had heard rumors that Zhong Yu had a difficult temperament, they hadn’t really experienced it firsthand. Seeing him in person this time, they couldn’t help but marvel at his appearance, which seemed to be specially favored by the Creator.

He was like a shining beacon. When someone’s looks are so exceptional that any description seems redundant, only two words remain: “good looking.”

In the afternoon, after the nurse finished changing Zhong Yu’s bandages, there was some commotion at the door.

Chu Yan had just gone through the pain of the dressing change, causing him to break into a cold sweat and not feel well. However, when he saw the newcomer, he couldn’t help but furrow his brows.

Yu Fei took off his mask and looked at Zhong Yu, who was leaning against the bed. He scrutinized him from head to toe, noticing the most prominent injury—the cast on his left leg—and several noticeable abrasions on his face.

“What happened? How could this accident occur?” Yu Fei’s heart ached deeply. He rushed over as soon as he got the news. While the studio had released a statement saying there was no immediate danger to Zhong Yu’s life, the situation seemed grave, and he knew there were reporters outside. To avoid attracting negative attention to Zhong Yu, he had even brought a mask.

Chu Yan glanced at him, sneering disdainfully, his voice cold, “Exactly what you see, Young Master Yu. His leg is broken. Now that you’ve seen it, can you leave?”

His tone was extremely icy, but Yu Fei didn’t get angry after hearing it. Not long after, a secretary entered the room, carrying a bouquet of flowers and a fruit basket. The secretary turned to Yu Fei and said, “Mr. Yu, the items you ordered are here.”

Yu Fei took the flowers from the secretary and placed them in a vase on Chu Yan’s bedside table.

“The nurse said you haven’t had lunch yet. Is there something you’d like to eat? I can get it for you.” Yu Fei asked, trying to be helpful.

Chu Yan looked at him for a moment, then chuckled coldly, “What? Can’t you understand plain words?”

“Zhong Yu, you’ve really misunderstood. There’s nothing between me and Vivian. It’s all fabricated by the media. I’ve only ever had feelings for you, and weren’t we doing well before?” Yu Fei’s voice was sincere and filled with regret.

“Who cares who you like? Aren’t you just playing around? What’s there to talk about ‘liking’? Don’t you understand the concept of ending things on good terms? Don’t think that just because my leg is broken, I won’t be able to beat you up. Get lost quickly, and don’t bother me in the future. You really do the dumbest things.”

Yu Fei continued to stare at him for a while before sighing, “Well, take care of your injury. I’ll come to see you tomorrow.”

The clear rejection in Chu Yan’s attitude left the secretary beside Yu Fei astonished. When did Mr. Yu’s temper become so amiable? He had come all the way here, only to find himself being cold-shouldered. Usually, chasing after any young celebrity, he would have them eating out of his hand after sending a few flowers and gifts…

“Don’t come tomorrow either.”

Yu Fei’s eyes revealed a trace of sadness, and a pained expression crossed his face. He eventually had his secretary put down the purchased fruit basket.

As he was about to reach the door, before he could even stretch his hand out, a force pushed the door open from the outside.

The newcomer was dressed in a dark suit, his gaze deep and somber. When his eyes met Chu Yan’s, one could almost feel the immense pressure emanating from him, causing one’s breath to halt for a few seconds. Yet, this young man couldn’t have been more than in his early twenties. How could he possess such a formidable aura? His tall figure, delicate features, and neatly cut black hair contrasted his fair skin, accentuating his handsome appearance. His entire presence exuded an indescribable sharpness.

Yu Fei was both astonished and perplexed for a moment, looking at the person for a good while before recognizing him. Wasn’t this Ye Jingyun? Did he have such a good relationship with Chu Yan?

Ye Jingyun’s gaze passed through Yu Fei and landed on Chu Yan, lying on the hospital bed. After a while, he calmly said, “Mr. Yu, weren’t you about to leave?”

Yu Fei was taken aback, and then a gradually embarrassed expression appeared on his face. He moved his lips as if he wanted to say something, but in the end, he just turned and walked away.
After Yu Fei left, Ye Jingyun closed the door and then walked to the bedside, placing the bouquet of carnations he brought on the side.

“Senior Ye, why did you come here?” Chu Yan looked at Ye Jingyun, his eyes revealing a hint of surprise. Wasn’t he supposed to be filming in country F right now?

Ye Jingyun smiled slightly and looked at Chu Yan with concern. “I heard about this news as soon as I returned to the country. I happened to have some matters here, so I came to see you.”

“What did the doctor say?”

Chu Yan looked at him silently for a while before answering, “The doctor said it’s not a big issue, just a fracture.”

Ye Jingyun nodded at his words, then sat down by the bed and studied Chu Yan’s expression. He observed the furrowed brow for a while, until it became a deep crease, before carefully asking, “What’s going on with Le Huo? As soon as I came back to the country, I heard some unfavorable news about him and Mr. Xu…”

Chu Yan’s gaze turned cold all of a sudden, and he interrupted him with a cold tone, “I don’t think you should come to ask me about this matter.”

Ye Jingyun’s expression subtly changed. After a moment of contemplation, he cautiously spoke, “I was wondering if there might be some misunderstanding between you two. In my impression, you were getting along fine. How did things suddenly escalate like this?”

Chu Yan looked steadily at Ye Jingyun, a wry smile appearing on his lips. “If you came just to discuss this matter, I think it’s unnecessary. Perhaps it would be better to ask him directly.”

“I’m grateful for the help you provided during our previous collaboration, Senior Ye, but it ends there. Moreover, I don’t think our relationship is good enough to discuss matters like this.”

After hearing Chu Yan’s words, Ye Jingyun was silent for a moment, then let out a sigh of resignation, his tone carrying a sense of disappointment. “So that’s how you see it.”

Standing at the hospital entrance, Ye Jingyun watched the constant flow of vehicles and people, exhaling a heavy breath from his chest after a while.

As the illegitimate child of the Xu family in B city, he had never felt any glory associated with this status. Instead, all he experienced was endless humiliation and resentment.

Ever since he was ten years old, when his mother passed away and he was brought back to the Xu family, he had lived in the shadow cast by someone named “Xu Linsen.”

Although, to outsiders, this older brother seemed kind, generous, and even affectionate towards him, Ye Jingyun knew that it was all conditional—as long as he remained a Ye.

The weight of this realization was heavy, and it cast a long shadow over his life.

He was a year younger than Xu Linsen, and they both attended high school and university in F country. However, they chose completely different career paths. Xu Linsen studied finance, while Ye Jingyun immersed himself in the world of film and television.

Perhaps it was precisely because of this that his older brother tolerated his existence, as he didn’t challenge the family’s business and opted for a field unrelated to finance.

However, an ironic smile crossed Ye Jingyun’s lips. He thought he was the sole heir to the family, yet now he found himself in a helpless situation, weakened to the point of struggling even to stand.

What surprised him even more was that his always indifferent and self-focused older brother had actually fallen in love with a penniless young celebrity.

Observing Xu Linsen’s attachment to that celebrity, Ye Jingyun couldn’t help but feel a sense of irony and disdain.
