Kouki and Amane, having escaped from their confinement, made their way up the grand staircase to the second floor.

Guided by Kouki, they managed to reach Iwaki’s private room without being spotted by the security guards. The door was locked, but as usual, Amane used his multi-hook tool to unlock it. They entered the room and locked it from the inside.

“Don’t turn on the lights. We’ll get light from the windows,” Amane instructed.

Kouki nodded and pulled out his smartphone from his jacket pocket. He turned on the flashlight and used the minimal illumination to shed light on the study area.

“Over there,” Kouki directed, pointing to a corner of the room where a writing desk and high-back chair were positioned against the wall.

“There it is. Iwaki’s computer,” Kouki said as he approached the desk.

He opened the lid of the laptop on the desk. He tried to check the email and photo folders, but was blocked by a password.

“We’ll deal with the password later. Let’s take the computer,” Amane said.

“Understood,” Kouki replied.

As he turned off the power and closed the laptop, he suddenly heard the sound of footsteps, the clacking of shoes echoing on the floor.

“Someone’s coming.”

“Tch… Iwaki’s back. Put the computer back. We need to hide.”

Following the instructions, Kouki returned the laptop to the writing desk and then joined Amane, who was already hidden behind the curtains.

At that very moment, the footsteps stopped in front of the door. The sound of a key being inserted into the lock was followed by a click as the lock turned. The door creaked open, and the room was illuminated by the flick of a light switch.

“President, thank you for your hard work today,” a voice that was not Iwaki’s said.

It was Iwaki’s voice responding, “You’ve done well, too. The detective who came to the office today was turned away. But there’s a chance he might come back, so be on guard.”

From the exchange, it was clear that the other speaker was the secretary who had been present when Amane confronted Iwaki earlier in the day.

Kouki carefully peered through a slight gap in the curtain and saw that it was indeed the same secretary he had encountered at the office.

“While you understand, make sure that what happened with Shou remains strictly confidential,” Iwaki said.

“Understood. You can rest assured about that,” the secretary replied.

“Especially the matter of Shou visiting here the day before yesterday. That is top secret… I’m counting on you.”

The secretary responded with, “Certainly,” and then left.

Once the secretary was gone, Iwaki headed straight for the writing desk. He sat down on the high-back chair with a strangely hurried motion and powered up the laptop on the desk. As soon as it started up, the sound of busy typing filled the room.

This is bad. He might be trying to delete Shou’s emails and photos.

Seeing this, Amane quickly pulled aside the curtain and rushed out, with Kouki following right behind.

“Mr. Iwaki!”

Iwaki, looking up from the laptop, stared wide-eyed at the two detectives who had suddenly appeared.

“Detectives from earlier today?! Why… why are you here?”

Ignoring Iwaki’s panicked question, Amane said, “Well, you know, a snake’s path is understood by a snake,” and walked up to the desk, holding up his smartphone.

“I recorded your conversation with the secretary earlier,” Amane said.

Iwaki’s face went pale instantly.

“So, Shou came here the night before last, didn’t he?”

“I… I don’t know anything,” Iwaki stammered.

“It’s pointless to play dumb. The laptop you’re fiddling with has records of your communications with Shou. It’s as good as physical evidence,” Amane asserted.

Iwaki clenched his lips tightly, clearly struck by the accusation.

“Kariya,” Amane gestured for Kouki to proceed with seizing the laptop.

As Kouki moved towards the desk to confiscate the laptop, a series of knocks echoed through the room.

“…!”

The three of them froze as a familiar voice reached their ears.

“Iwaki-san, this is the head of security. Are you back? Actually, while you were away, there were some suspicious intruders…”

“There is an intruder in here right now!”

Iwaki shouted. Almost immediately, the door burst open. The security guard from earlier yelled, “You two!” at Amane and Kouki.

Kouki leaped in front of the man charging with a raised baton. He dodged the downward swing of the baton with a twist of his body.

He seized the baton from the unsteady security guard and threw it to the floor. Then, Kouki grabbed the attacking guard’s arm, yanked him hard, and lifted him onto his shoulder.

“Whoa!”

The throw landed cleanly. The man crashed onto his back with a thud. Kouki immediately pinned the guard’s neck with his arm and held him down.

After knocking the unconscious guard to the floor, Kouki stood up. Amane approached and scolded him, “Don’t get carried away.”

“Sorry,” Kouki apologised without making excuses. Despite the unjust reprimand, he felt strangely calm, having resolved to protect Amane.

“…Well, it’s fine. You didn’t crack his skull this time.”

Amane muttered quietly, then turned to face Iwaki.

“The other guard is asleep on the first floor. Now, no one will come to your aid, got it?”

“…”

Iwaki’s face tightened as Amane operated his smartphone and showed him the images on the screen.

“Here is Shou’s dead face. His body had been severely affected all over. But fortunately, his face remained intact.”

Iwaki twitched his shoulders slightly and stared intently at the image for about ten seconds before looking away.

“Shou was a Stray Omega and a male escort. But he wished to escape his current predicament of being a ‘bird among dragons’ someday,” Amane began quietly.

“At some point, he met a prominent educator like you. Perhaps Shou, after reading your books, attended one of your lectures. After the lecture, at the book signing event, Shou shared his dream with you. He wanted to go to school and receive an education. Am I wrong?”

Iwaki remained stiff, neither confirming nor denying the statement.

“Initially, as an educator, you might have sincerely supported this boy’s dream of escaping from the lowest tier by receiving an education and extended your help. But over time, as you met and talked with Shou, you began to develop sinister desires towards him. You became infatuated with Shou and called him to this mansion the night before last. There, you forced Shou, who was guarded, to drink alcohol under the pretext of offering educational and lifestyle support. But he stubbornly refused. He probably didn’t want to have a physical relationship with you. He didn’t want to equate you, whom he respected, with a customer who buys his body with money.”

In response to Amane’s fluent narrative, Iwaki’s tightly pressed lips began to quiver. His eyes were wide open to their limit, and his pupils were dilated.

“But to you, it must have felt like a terrible betrayal. Despite how much attention and affection you gave him… despite him being a Stray Omega… you lost your temper and instinctively strangled Shou. Believing that you had killed Shou, who was in a state of near-death, you transported the body to Shou’s hometown in the downtown area by car. You tried to make it look like an accident by dropping the body from an abandoned overpass. But just before that, Shou regained consciousness. Realising that if this became public, everything you had built up would collapse, you panicked. Meanwhile, Shou, trying to escape from you, stumbled toward the stairs. In a frantic chase and struggle, you ended up pushing Shou down the stairs.”

“Omegas are demons that deceive humans!”

Suddenly, Iwaki shouted. His face was flushed, his lips trembled, and his body, wrapped in a double-breasted high-class suit, shook violently.

“It’s all the fault of Omegas that this happened! I was driven mad by Omega pheromones…”

Iwaki seemed to fall silent abruptly, then covered his face with both hands and collapsed onto the desk. As Iwaki began to sob, Amane turned his gaze to Kouki, asking for confirmation.

“Did you record that?”

“Yes, I recorded it.”

Kouki showed his smartphone. At the moment Amane began speaking, he had tapped the voice memo app, recording all of his deductions and Iwaki’s confession.

“Good.”

Nodding in satisfaction, Amane shifted his gaze back to the man who was collapsed on the desk, sobbing. With a cold voice laced with disdain, he accused, “The real demon is you.”

“Don’t blame Omegas for your inability to control your own lust at your age. You’re a devil in the guise of an educator.”
