YPWW Chapter 2

A college life without s-e-x can be a bit dull.

In the afternoon, Gu Zhifei looked up Jiang Yang’s information and spent some time pondering a strategy over the small notebook Fang Shucheng had given him. He ended up gaming and scrolling through Weibo in the evening, and before he knew it, it was already midnight.

Even though he had secretly stashed Jiang Yang’s three-inch photo under his pillow, he still slept dreamlessly, not even a glimpse of the handsome guy appeared.

So, when Gu Zhifei was woken up by his phone ringing at six in the morning, his grouchy expression was perfectly understandable.

Amid the unshakeable snores of his roommates, Gu Zhifei lay in bed, eyes glazed, and groggily answered the call with a lifeless, “Hello?”

The voice on the other end was bright and full of energy: “Hi, this is Jiang Yang, the guy who bumped into you yesterday. Do you remember?”

Gu Zhifei instantly sat up, his eyes lighting up. “Of course, I remember.”

Jiang Yang asked, “Did you get your headphones fixed? I can send you the repair fee via Alipay.”

During his speech, Gu Zhifei could hear the sound of heavy breathing on the other end.

Gu Zhifei, a bit surprised, checked the time. “You called this early just to ask about the repair fee for my headphones?”

Jiang Yang’s voice suddenly weakened. “Did I disturb you? I was worried you might think I’d flake on paying.”

“Not at all,” Gu Zhifei replied coldly, though his tone didn’t match the content of his words at all.

“…Sorry,” Jiang Yang said, taking a deep breath.

Gu Zhifei retorted, “What’s the point of just saying sorry? You’ve already woken me up. Besides, I don’t use Alipay. If you’re going to pay, let’s do it in person.”

Jiang Yang, confused, asked, “But I can just transfer it to you through WeChat, right?”

Gu Zhifei pretended not to hear. “So, how about we set a time? How’s this afternoon? Café by the library, the seat by the window.”

Jiang Yang hesitated, “Uh…”

Gu Zhifei cut in, “Alright, no objections then. It’s settled. See you at 2 p.m. at the café.”

Jiang Yang: “Huh?”

Gu Zhifei added, “By the way, were you running just now? You sound out of breath.”

Jiang Yang replied, “Yeah.”

Gu Zhifei asked, “Is that a habit of yours?”

Jiang Yang hesitated, “Uh…yeah, but this afternoon I still have—”

“Beep—Beep—”

Jiang Yang: “…”

Gu Zhifei hung up the phone, satisfied—daily exercise, good stamina, for sure.

When his roommates woke up at noon, the first thing they saw was Gu Zhifei staring at himself in the bathroom mirror.

Roommate A teased, “Looks like our handsome Gu has a date! Up early to make yourself pretty, huh?”

“Sassy!” Roommate B commented bluntly, “You’ve got a date with a girl, but didn’t tell us bros? Not cool.”

Gu Zhifei smirked coldly. “Don’t ask me to bring food back for you anymore.”

Roommates A and B immediately started fake crying, apologizing sincerely, and even offered to help Gu Zhifei as his style consultants.

Gu Zhifei rolled his eyes in disdain at their straight-guy aesthetics.

Roommate A scratched his head. “No, really, you look good, but this style doesn’t match your vibe at all.”

Gu Zhifei frowned, went back to the mirror to check again, thought for a moment, and then applied a couple of eye drops before putting in colored contact lenses (?).

The sharpness in his gaze instantly softened.

When he turned around, Roommate A was left speechless.

Seeing the stunned expression on Roommate A’s face, Gu Zhifei left the room feeling quite pleased with himself.

Behind him, Roommates A and B put their heads together, exchanging suspicious glances. “Don’t you think Gu Zhifei seems kind of… gay gay today?”

They asked simultaneously.

Then, silence fell between them.

Suddenly, Roommate C, who had been lying half-dead in bed, shot up and shouted, “Wait! Gu, bro! Can you bring us food?”

Roommates A and B replied in unison again, “Idiot, he’s long gone!”

When Gu Zhifei arrived at the café, it was still half an hour before two o’clock. With nothing better to do, he grabbed a copy of National Geographic from a nearby shelf and began reading.

About ten minutes later, Jiang Yang walked in. The first thing he saw was Gu Zhifei, sitting by the window, engrossed in the magazine.

The bright afternoon sun bathed the young man’s handsome face, and the soft down on his skin gleamed with a faint golden hue, making his slightly pursed lips seem even more charming.

Much later, Jiang Yang would recall this moment, saying, “At that moment, it really felt like my heart had been struck. Maybe I was already falling for him back then.”

Gu Zhifei’s response to this was always: “Keep going, don’t stop.”

With that, Jiang Yang could only stop reminiscing and lower his head, diving back into his work with determination.
